I've only just noticed that Dalton Smith got the year off to a good start by winning the WBC super-welter title in the early hours of yesterday. That was a turn-up and no mistake.
-
First Moses Itauma's fight, due to take place last Saturday, had to be postponed as Moses had picked up an injury and has now being rearranged for 28 March. I have now found out that Adam Azim's next fight due to take place this Saturday has also had to be postponed, due to both Adam and his opponent picking up injuries, a new date has yet to be arranged.
A great pity as they are two of the most exciting boxers around at the moment.

Tyson Fury is coming out of retirement for I think the 5th time, it's very hard to keep up with the number of times. He's fighting Arslanbek Makhmudov, who in his last fight was taken the full distance by Dave Allen, the Russian eventually won on an UD. The fight takes place on 11 April, venue yet to be confirmed.
-
After no British boxing on TV so far this year, tonight there's two cards including one on BBC headlined by the very lovely Fran Hennessy . Boxing is perhaps the worst-governed sport on earth.
-
Yeah but nothing on Sky, looks like they've given up with boxing, they haven't had a fight night for months.
-
That was a great win for Josh Kelly, and Lovely Fran won as well.

It's as well lovely Fran is so popular because I think she marginally lost last night.

Lively encounter between Simon Jordan and Deontay Wilder

How did Tyson Fury cheat?
Edit
Shines a little light on it

He had a terrible cold bless him

That was just about the most incredible couple of minutes boxing I've seen for a long time. Andrew Cain down twice to body shots, saved by the bell and absolutely gone, comes out for the next round, drops Gonzalez twice and the fight's over.
-
I'm not a vindictive man but I do hope Josh Warrington gets his arse kicked tonight.

. Snap
-
It's looking good so far.
-
Comfortable- hopefully the last time they both step onto the ring
-
Hopefully, but it was poor. Warrington has nothing left and Wood wasn't taking any chances.
-
Yep, both good fighters over the years making the most of their abilities largely but there was nothing left in the tank
-
I'm currently watching my first- and hopefully last-ever Commonwealth International title fight.
-
This doesn't sound too good.

Last night Michael Conlan, one of the more reprehensible boxers in the world, lost and retired. Tonight Tyler Denny, an all-round nice guy from Rowley, is fighting for the British middleweight title.
-
Tonight Moses Itauma, IMHO a future world champion, faces his biggest challenge to date, when he fights American Jermaine Franklin in Manchester. Unfortunately for me it's on DAZN, which I have not got and have no intention of getting, so will have to make do, with listenng to it on Radio 5 live.
-
Good win for Liam Davies, Shakiel Thompson is looking good.
-
And guess who got battered?
-
And guess who got battered?
Sounded pretty definitive!
-
Sounds another very impressive performance from Itauma.

Stunning. All round it was the best card for a long while.
-
That finish was stunning….enjoyed Frampton trying not to swear about Franklin corner thinking the fight shouldn’t have been stopped.
Itauma is some fighter but like most would like to see how he boxes in the 10th/11th round against someone who hits back, Franklin was game and threw a coupe of shots but he was all about survival from 1st bell
-
The problem is, who will want to fight him that's good enough to give him a decent test? They're all eyeing the winner of Wardley/Dubois and waiting to see what happens with Usyk. Nobody anywhere near their prime will want to risk getting stopped by Itauma.
-
True enough, Dave.
He's not infallible, but from the 'eye test' the few fighters who have the ability to challenge him are all 35+. They're looking for legacy fights and big paydays.
Itauma would be a massive risk for any of them.
It's almost inevitable he'll fight Dubois in the next couple of years, which will be interesting.

Absolutely - Dubois didn’t look enthused by the opportunity either, Wardley would like the pay day but might want to go prime Julius Francis and the sell the advertising space on sole of boots
-
Just read that Itauma and Wardley have the same trainer so it’s pretty unlikely that will happen.
Don’t know how true that would be.
-
Ajagba or Gassiev are two possibilities. The other Brits will want to fight each other and the rest are waiting to see if Usyk retires.
-
That was impressive by Itauma, looked in complete control and he has a devastating punch. Would be good to see him against someone more mobile than Jermaine Franklin.
-
Disappointed to hear Farage was in the tank and not under it. Twat Chisora. Hopefully they both can hurry up and retire.
-
There are four British TV promotions in the next three nights.
-
It's Chisora v Wilder tonight, in other words the battle of the Old Codgers.
-

If they can’t knock each other out then it’s Team Wilder all the way…Farage is a stunt (sp!)

Women's title fight between Price and Piñeiro is on BBC2 later for those seeking some "free" boxing.

With a blokes British title fight topping the bill. In the meantime try to watch last night's William Crolla fight.
-
Ta. Couldn't find the full fight but saw the knock-out. Looked brutal.

The Beeb have got Price v Pineiro topping the bill.

I looked at Boxrec.

Live Sport on TV doesn't mention the men's fight but Bet365 suggest it starts at 8 with the women due around 9. BBC coverage begins at 8 so they should be showing both, regardless.

They will be, definitely. Then The Last Waltz should start around ten.
-
The first heavyweight fight ends in round two.
-
I thought Price lost that.
-
Riley looked impressive, and away we go...
-
It's shite.
-
That was a mad round.
-
Not a lot of boxing, lots of slugging and leaning
-
Enjoyed that. Defending is boring.
-
It was entertaining enough, neither of them left anything out there
-
Two heavyweights that gave it their all, not pretty but I thought it was entertaining.
-
It got better as it went on but both fighters and the ref should retire.
-
Didn't follow it. Correct decision?
Edit: was Wilder by split decision correct, not 'did I make the correct decision by not following'?
-

I don't know. It was impossible to score and the ref was appaling.

Ah, sounds like Ali/Frazier! Just about to watch highlights. I have high hopes for a classic.
-
Oh. I see.
Looked like two sikh lads from my school going at it.
(I say 'sikh' not as a reflection on adult sikhs, because every grown-up sikh I've met has been polite and charming. But their teenage boys are sometimes quite aggressive, from my school experience, and think that a £2 bangle will act as a knuckle duster, so get into fights and approach a fight by throwing wild hooks in the hope of landing anything.)
-
Del Boy has been one of the great characters of boxing, but it was a bit concerning he didn't confirm his retirement afterwards in the ring.
-
Dubois v Harper up now.
-
Tonight's undercard looks impressive.
-
Makhmudov looks one dimensional, rushes forward and off balance.
-
Be surprised if the Russian is still there for the 2nd half of the fight
-
Jelly belly likely to win soon.
-

Which one!
-
Be surprised if the Russian is still there for the 2nd half of the fight
Surprise.
-
Homer Simpson was in better shape when he boxed.
-
This is rubbish.
-
Makhmudov is the very definition of crude but Fury doesn't seem capable of stepping up.
-
Be surprised if the Russian is still there for the 2nd half of the fight
Surprise.
Very! Get this done, milk the pantomime against AJ and retire for 57th time
-
Makhmudov is a slow moving target.
-
Piss poor. Retire and stay retired, please.
-
Dull as fuck, 2 old fat lads waddling around. Heavyweight boxing is crap.
-
Piss poor. Retire and stay retired, please.
Somehow, and please don't take this personally, I don't think there's much chance of that.
-
No, I know. No chance whatsoever.
-
It's worse than WWE for bad acting.
-
Just when you thought one big fight might take place without hystrionics
-
The ever-gracious Ben Whittaker is fighting tonight.
-
He does seem a grade a tool
-
And a pointless fight. He could have another one tomorrow.
-
Well you only have to look at who he works for…he always milks the cash rather than making the best fights
