Never in doubt.
9 in a row.
15 out of 17.
-
What a manager
-
Piece of piss. 7 points from safety
-
After that first half.......
Nuno monkey off ours and Unai's back as well.
-
Hopefully David and Karren had a nice day.
-
Never in doubt.
9 in a row.
15 out of 17.
Happy days
-
Fucking YAS. Don't care how we won, but we won.
-
I have nothing but pure happiness for having Unai Emery. There's something in the air
-
7 points clear of 6th.
-
An easy, stress-free stroll in the park kind of game. Nice to get one of these every now and then to give the blood pressure a break.
-
I don’t know how we do it! Some run this.
-
I thought Lindelof was really good today. Maybe noticing him more due to being worried about Torres out but for a free transfer looks good business now.
-
7 points clear of 6th.
5th.
-
About 85 minutes of stupidly giving the ball away… and three goals. I don’t know how we do it sometimes.
-
We've got a world class manager, and Rogers is well on the way to becoming one of the elite too. A very special player indeed.
-
7 points clear of 6th.
5th.
But guaranteed to go into next fixtures 7 ahead of 6th.
-
I need a shower.
I agree about Lindelof, was worried about him with Bowen running at him but he did really well.
-
Almost a perfect weekend for the teams below us. Just not quite for the ones above us.
-
Very comfortable. I was never worried.
-
These lads don't know when they're beaten
-
Almost a perfect weekend for the teams below us. Just not quite for the ones above us.
I like our position. Keep them in sight then pounce.
-
It appears we've figured out how to win every game using the least possible performance necessary to get over the line. Our goal difference at the end of the season will probably be single digits.
-
7 points clear of 6th.
5th.

Ahh.
-
Nine wins in a row. Some achievement at any level but where we are, absolutely amazing.
-
I fuckin love the Villa!!
-
We really are a CF away from winning this fucking league.
-
Our record is pretty similar to two years ago but this year we are in a title race and two years ago we weren't? The narrative of the media. ... BUT this team never knows when it's.beaten and - like the Brighton game - you.still thought we'd win. Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. Shove yer chimneys up yer arse Small Heath you ARE miles behind us.
-
Glorious stuff - to have two absolutely essential players out, play sloppily, and still win is huge. Morgan is elite quality.
-
Typical Villa, bottling it as expected again.
-
And another one! Who knows? We might even win next week.
-
If we do, I will be looking at a title shot.
-
That was a ‘top team’ performance. Dig out a win, through an amazing goal from a player that could be world class.
-
Never in doubt.
9 in a row.
15 out of 17.
When will it be ever on doubt?
-
Another win in the bag. Not great 1st half better 2nd just had too much for them
-
We all know how this run ends....it just has to be them >:(
-
Rogers putting in the kind of performance where Tuchel starts thinking ' don't need that Bluenose in Madrid lad next summer'...
-
We all know how this run ends....it just has to be them >:(
Not this team.Not this time
-
Lovely.
-
Think that game should probably just serve as a bit of a warning shot that we just need to tighten things up a bit for the upcoming games. Great to get the win and continue the run though.
-
Me neither. dont know how we do it but we do. It s amazingly awesome. Who is the "Grande" Villa hieriachy person standing in front of the tunnel congratulating first emery then players as they are on their way in?
-

Understatement. Although the OG was very reminiscient of the one Wolves let in yesterday. I think Spam are joining Burnley and Wolves at the moment and really need another team to keep them company.

Did you notice how the commentators kept mentioning the fact that we had two essential players out? No, neither did I

He’s like the internal connector between all the senior people at the club. Unai, owners, head of business etc…

It was mentioned a few times.

If it turns out to be single digits, we might struggle to get Eurpa League next season, never mind Champions League (Unless as expected we win the Europa League this season).

Indeed.
Really over the moon with that. When they scored their second I thought we'd left ourselves too much. Next three are cruical, in the sense that they'll tell us how serious we are. We have a nice buffer to absorb the worst if we're staying realistic though.
-
The pessimist in me can't help thinking it's going to come to a crashing halt against Man Utd but fuck it. Nine in a row is some feat.
-
We all know how this run ends....it just has to be them >:(
Not really.
It's this pessimism that stops us achieving anything.
Time to think differently.
We've got Unai.
This is a different team.
-

If we won every game by a single goal then GD would be plus 36 anyway. But we did get Europa with single digits last season.
-
Disappointing that we didn't score 4. 3 points will have to do.
-
We've got the 4th best GD.
-
I'm sure some of us will come on and slag off certain players and praise others after today's performance.
Personally, I couldn't give a shiney shite.
If we repeat what happened today in all our remaining fixtures, then I'm not going to complain or moan.
We won and another 3 points on the board is what counts.

Have you forgotten what happened on the final day last season? We had Unai then too! :-\

Yeah, but Watkins was far from his best today.
-
We owe man u.
-
Match is at home, not away enigma.
-
A bit like the players, I don't panic watching the Villa these days. Always feel we can go up a gear when we need to.
Fantastic win. Well done lads.
-
Match is at home, not away enigma.
Match is at home, not away enigma.
That's something I suppose but I can't overlook three decades of that lot spawning their way to victory over us so easily.
-
Found a way to win again. Top result. Top comeback. Pity about conceding so easily but hey it is 3 points again.
-

Why should you, when you're complaining and moaning right now?!

-
ManU have won 1 of their last 4 visits to VP.
-
Did Paqueta do anything?
-
Thought we actually controlled the first half better than the second.
I especially enjoyed the second goal, with the clever pass from Bouba (you knew where it needed to go, but not how he was going to able to do it) and then, given the time and space Tielemans had, you knew it was going to be a goal. Tidy finish.
Hats off to Lindelof, who didn’t put a foot wrong. While our passing between the lines was less effective, he frequently stepped into midfield with the ball to compensate. They created very few chances in open play.
Rogers on fire, yet again.
Bizot needs to rid himself of that corner albatross. Konsa played well from the 2nd minute onwards, and can be forgiven the glitch in view of his hitherto imperious form.
Everyone else on par - that was all we needed.
-
And the Villa go marching on
Feckless me was cursing and swearing when we kept giving the ball away and when Bowen kept looking like scoring.
I am sorry, we do not lose.
My son is going to the UK for a family funeral next week.
He has a ticket for the Utd game
I have regaled him with stories of League cup semi final , Andy Gray, 1957, etc
Please, please let this run continue for 1 more game and let us beat the fuckers
-
We really are finding so many different ways to win games and deal with the issues of games Thursday / Sunday That winner from Rogers was world class...
-
Did Paqueta do anything?
not alot
-
ManU have won 1 of their last 4 visits to VP.
Something else to hold on to. Keep em coming.
-
Once we went ahead, we saw how the game would have been if we didn't gift them a start. Never in doubt once we got in front.
We do have a habit of giving soft goals away from home, which we won't get away with in our next two away games.
We're third by a distance, in the back of 9 wins, without looking that convincing.
-
We all know how this run ends....it just has to be them >:(
Not with this team. We’ll smash them.
-
Free week for the lads now until Man Utd, then six days until Chelsea. Think there are league cup games for the wanky clubs who bother with it.
-
Did Paqueta do anything?
He rolled up one leg of his shorts, and ran around looking slightly silly.
-
Coming from behind twice and we still managed to break the five-win curse while setting a new record. Very impressive, especially considering we were playing with 10 men until Watkins went off.
People will claim he created the equaliser, but not for me — Mavropanos is one of the worst defenders I’ve ever seen, which explains why they’ve only won three matches all season. Bowen, on the other hand is actual quality, though he was clearly brainwashed by Danny Dyer into signing that seven-year new contract.
3 points. Next!
-
Wan Bissaka’s defending for Morgan’s first goal looked really weird. Why did he run back towards the goal line (to try and block) instead of just trying to challenge Morgan.
-
If we had the money, Bowen would be the signing we need for that right side👍
-

It is what counts, yes. This is a discussion board and as such when things aren’t going tickety boo we will pass remarks less than favourable. For instance, our complacency is our worst enemy, we reduce that aspect and we can go all the way.
-
If we had the money, Bowen would be the signing we need for that right side👍
We shall afford him with the money we get from “injured” Martinez in January.
-
I do not want that fat lad from Hereford. I said the same about Fred West.
-
So you don't believe he is injured then? Nice. Although I would like another keeper to be bought with that money so we are not kicked out of the Europa.
-
Well, wow !!!!!
What a strange game. I think we would all agree that some individuals didn’t have their best game, but collectively we are just a juggernaut.
It was almost like we won that game when we decided, ‘bollocks to this, we’ll go and score now.’ And we did, 3 times.
Morgan had 2 moments of absolute genius, but there is absolutely no doubt that MOTM was Unai.
It’s an emotional game, it was frustrating at times, but we ground out ANOTHER ONE !
We are in very special times.
-
Ha, on the Lucas Digne ‘another one!’ clip you can hear Konsa say ‘Morgan saved my life’
-
A bit like the players, I don't panic watching the Villa these days. Always feel we can go up a gear when we need to.
Fantastic win. Well done lads.
I'm feeling the same. I felt comfortable on Thursday and again today. It's how we react when we do eventually lose which will be the test.
-
If we had the money, Bowen would be the signing we need for that right side👍
We shall afford him with the money we get from “injured” Martinez in January.
It's genuine. Lower back, which can take a while to shake. He got hit late against Arsenal and went down holding it.

Not with this team. We’ll smash them.
Im sensing shades of boxing day 1989, we’ll do them lot 3-0.
Didn’t see the game today as my lad had a match over in a very cold Tamworth (won 2-1 against top of the league, so great day all round). Have seen the goals back and the third is a beauty. If we come through the next three games with 5 or 6 points, I believe we are in the mix.
-
Today, we were bad for much of the game, away from home, and we fucking won said game. We're getting all Thanos at the minute, and it's wild to see.

I ve heard that MU have Dalot, Mbuembo and Mazzarouni at Africans when we meet them next week.
-
I’m running out of superlatives for this manager and this team of ours other than fuckin’ brilliant!!
-
I ve heard that MU have Dalot, Mbuembo and Mazzarouni at Africans when we meet them next week.
I was hoping Mbuemo would be going and I'm not sure why a Portugese player is going either. (It is Diallo, not Dalot).

Desperately one-eyed match report in the Graun (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/dec/14/west-ham-aston-villa-premier-league-match-report). Jacob Steinberg is properly useless.

Sorry, it is Amad not Dalot. The two others are correct.
-
It is now the 5th time in the league, we have conceded goals in the first 10 mins and in all of them we have gone on to win, which is great. It's not a complaint just a request to Unai and the team, that we cut down on the number of goals conceded early, it would make life a lot easier.
Unai's claret and blue army go marching on, fantastic stuff.

One-eyed how?! Fucking hell, did you see the game? That piece is pro-Villa propaganda.
-
Hang on, am I missing irony here? Apologies if so.
-
These lads don't know when they're beaten
That's the key bit and why this is so special. On top of all the wonderful things Unai has given us, we now seem to have added a certain whiff of a 90s/00s team in red that used to piss us off mightily.
We never say die
-
I can't see anything wrong with it either way. We looked like team who had only had a couple of days to recover/prepare playing against a team who had a week.

The original piece was all about the plucky Spammers and how they had been fortuitously denied by Villa. He has rewritten it significantly since first posting (as is typically the case, usually to add the manager quotes) - presumably the Spammer-centricity was pointed out to him by a sub-editor. You can still see traces of it, though:
This was Villa in fighting mode. They fell behind to the fastest goal in the Premier League this season, trailed 2-1 at half-time and were second best for long spells, but they refused to roll over.
That was not the game I watched, in which we had 60% possession, more attempts on target and control of the midfield from start to finish.

Something like that, Dave.

If the worst journalistic crime is saying that we were second best for long spells, I can't remember many Villa games under Emery when that hasn't been the case.
We were "second best for long spells" in our easy, 4-0 win against Bournemouth. It's very much how we're set up to play.
Edit- to be fair, I've not watched a minute of today, due to an inconveniently-timed three hour drive down the M5. Maybe we were great for the whole match.
But a quick read of the match thread at half-time at a services, "second best" definitely seemed to be the prevailing (although, not universal) opinion half way through.
-
Well, I think our xG is probably still a bit shit.
Thankfully, our xBangers is sky high, so that's that problem dealt with 8)
-
1st half terrible, 2nd a bit better but we found a way again to win.
Please make next Sunday, an intolerable bear pit for the opposition and smash them to pieces. I couldn't stand to see this run end against those utter cock, cnut, bell end wankers.
-

To be honest, I didn’t think that was the case today. We were behind for a while, but looked in control, as befits the slightly odd nature of their two goals against the run of play. The only time we looked under the kosh was the 15 or so minutes after the second equaliser. After which we scored and held them at arm’s length with ease, defending very well with control of the ball.
And as I say, the original piece was much worse.

Was otherwise engaged for the game so not seen anything. I managed to check the score around 60mins and was content with 2-2. To find out we won is great as a thought we’d draw. Some run were on, bring on Man U.

1st half was terrible for both teams, neither of us created much or looked any threat. 2nd half we had a slight increase in effort and looked most likely to win for most of it.
-
We’ve hardly been part of the national conversation much over the last 30 years due to being mostly crap or average during that time.
Besides, Villa are getting talked about loads atm.

Fair enough :)
Personally, I thought we were a class above them and thoroughly deserved to win.
-
I honestly think that in a lot of these games against lower ranked sides he’s setting us up to to expend the minimum energy possible to get the job done. Our squad is being managed like no other season before.
-

It’s what’s he’s been doing ever since we first qualified for Europe, we’re just getting better at this.

Next Sunday is massive.
A win is crucial.
And because I hate the feckers.

Neither did I but thankfully the commentator mentioned it every time he touched the ball so now I know.
-
The pessimist in me can't help thinking it's going to come to a crashing halt against Man Utd but fuck it. Nine in a row is some feat.
We'll beat them but I worry about the following 2
-
Did Paqueta do anything?
Him and Somerville were dreadful I thought.
It was pretty low quality match.
-
Seven more points and we are safe 🙂
-
Not our best performance as a team but super win in the circumstances. Did our very best to keep an awful West Ham team in the game but our quality told in the end. Whatever Emery saw that day v Boro in the cup in Morgan Rogers, nobody else saw it but what a player he has developed into. Outstanding. Good day for Emery on the bench again, down four? injured players and still getting an impact off the bench. Lindelof had a solid game in Torres absence too.
Bizot 6 - no mistakes but really weak at set piece time. Distribution isn't bad
Cash 8 - very good again, Summerville is a good player and was well held. Strong in the air too
Konsa 3 - nightmare of a first half gave them two goals and had no idea where Bowen was for the tight offside call in the second half
Lindelof 7 - solid game following up from Thurs night. Not as strong distributing the ball with his left foot but still found Rogers for the third
Maatsen 6 - ok ish, defended ok but mixed enough on the ball, takes wrong options in traffic at times
Onana 4 - poor. We lacked intensity in the middle of the park and he was cruising far too much for my liking. Limited on the ball.
Kamara 6 - played his best football after we went ahead. Dug out a nice pass in the build up to the second but quiet enough apart from that.
McGinn 8 - very good again. Does it all really, cracking delivery for our first, won countless turnovers high up the pitch and ran with the ball really well at times. Contrast to Guessand during the week is huge
Rogers 10 - was very bright in first half when we struggled and outstanding in second with two great goals.
Tielemans 7 - fine assist for Rogers after half time. Struggled to get into it at 10 but better in midfield when he went back there.
Watkins 5 - did make a really good run for the first goal but his hold up play against woeful defenders today was nowhere near good enough.
Malen 6 - started really well with a powerful shot with his first touch. But I'm not sure about him at all when he has to lead the line himself.
Buendia 7 - strong cameo. His touch is razor sharp at the moment, unlucky not to be starting
Digne 7 - solid when he came on too.
-
Seven more points and we are safe 🙂
Which is more than be said for 17 others.
-
First trip to the London Stadium. Absolute soulless shithole and not a place you’d hurry back to visit again. Great win which we did for the most part in 2nd gear. 2 really shit goals both Konsas fault conceded but he rallied second half. What really impressed me was after Morgan scored the winner for the next 5-10 minutes we went up 2 gears and the ball and movement was exceptional. It slightly helped that Nunos subs were Blues and we saw the game out fairly comfortably.
Top day out in London bookended by the Avanti just how shit can we be train service.
-
John Townley on X:
Quite remarkable that Aston Villa have won each of their last 10 matches following a midweek European fixture, starting with a victory at Brentford after their win at Club Brugge in March.
https://x.com/johntownley11/status/2000301345946124565
-
And his other fact. We have only ever won one other game after losing the lead twice in a league game since 92.
Today was just the second time Aston Villa have ended on the winning side in a Premier League game having fallen behind twice, with the previous instance coming back in September 2013 at home to Man City.
-
BTW, how shit is that stadium? Quite a few empty seats too. I hope they go down with Leeds.
-

I think they'll drop this season. Their defence is a shambles but worse than that there is no heart in their team. Once we went ahead they hardly had a shot. Leeds are poor but made us earn it to the last minute. Callum Wilson is the kind of signing we were making before eventually getting relegated.

Been there for Athletics a few times and it was fine. It's a fine place for athletics. Can't think of any such that make for good football stadiums.
Wolves and Burnley are doomed. Even when they play half decent they lose.
It'll likely be West Ham or Leeds. Leeds are showing some serious backbone at the minute and West Ham less so.
Not convinced Brentford and Bournemouth are all together in a good way either but they have more points.
-
Very noticeable Emery shouting for his players to do something, then is frozen in place in disbelief as they don't and Bowen has his offside chance.
-
Another below par performance that ends with three points…. Do you want to bet against us?
-
Another win I'll take that.
-
If we had the money, Bowen would be the signing we need for that right side👍
Bowen would be a brilliant addition to the Villa team, tenacious, great technique and a wonderful finisher.
-

It is truly the shittest away end I’ve been to other than Mostar.
Miles from the pitch, a colossal gap between upper and lower tiers and a Berlin Wall to the left so you can’t even see the home fans from the lower tier. One of the men’s toilets doesn’t even have urinals, just cubicles, which leads to queues worthy of the ladies.
-
I do not want that fat lad from Hereford. I said the same about Fred West.
Fred and Jarrod Sr both supported Villa. Have a heart.

Steady, there are those who would have Wilson ahead of Watkins. I like Ollie and I don't think it's an outlandish suggestion. Wilson is a good finisher.
-
Well done to Victor Lindelof. A really solid performance, especially as he played against Basel less than 72 hours earlier. Plus he picked out Morgan Rogers with a Torres type pass for that stunning winner. Ironically, Konsa had a below par performance!
-
Father in law is a hammers st. He gives me his ticket once a year (thanks dad!). Managed to get another ticket for the Mrs for her 2nd away game ever.
Lovely walk to their ground via shopping centre. Paid £13 for freshly fried fish and chips.
Tifo for their favourite son Bonds was heartfelt, the bloke next to me had tears in his eyes. Same for me when Gary Shaw passed.
Barely had time to get comfortable in my seat and were 1-0 down WTF. Watkins (it appeared) equalised before I got nervous as the early goal gave them some oompf.
I heard the Villa brethren all through the match and tried not to pay too much attention as the suspicious cockneys around me kept complaining they couldn’t defend for shit.
At 2-2 their heads dropped a bit and Bowen still was their best player.
What a worldie from Morgan Rogers !
Something curious - because Mrs Remy supports both Villa and West Ham I bought her a half / half scarf for a laugh. As we’re walking to the stadium a random bloke says - they won’t let you in the stadium with that! I said why and he goes it’s because of anger at tickets going to touts / tourists. So she pops the scarf away and sure enough at the security gate - there is bloke complaining that he’s not being allowed in with the same scarf!
I stare at SUE and I just have love for the bloke.
I’m getting shades of 92/93 - one goal of the season competition for Aston Villa and one for the rest of the league. Plus we’re going for the league.
Manure will be beaten 1-0 on Sunday for only our shameful / conspiratorial 3rd home league win in 30 years over this lot. No other team fucks me over personally.
If I’d been at home I’d been dancing around the room at our 3rd goal. As it was I froze while all around me put their heads in their hands- ha!
Shortly afterwards I can hear - you’ve seen the Villa now f*** off home!
Drive home back to the midlands was euphoric!

I found myself thinking that during the game. Imagine if we'd somehow managed to find a way to buy him in the summer instead of Guessand...
-
Bowen is an outstanding player. Some finish for that one given offside in the second half. Very strong on the ball.
-
He had a trial at Villa once. I know this because the commentator mentioned one or two (hundred) times.
-
Problem with Bowen is you'd be paying premium prices for a 29 year old.
-
I'd love him here! Trouble is, he's married into East End royalty/pwopa (faux) geezer territory so he'll never be allowed to leave!!
-

Callum Wilson is an injury prone 33 year old, it’s a bonkers suggestion.
-
Yeah I think some are hung up on the Wilson of a few years ago. Significant drop off last season.
-

I imagine if they go down, he'll be out the door and would probably want a little go at the Champions League. Arsenal / Man City / Chelsea feel unlikely. If we're there, I reckon we'd be the ones "expected" to sign him.
If (as per PWS above) we look elsewhere for someone younger and the Champions League spots are filled with some of the usual mob, feels nailed on for Spurs.
If they stay up, he'll stay there.
-
Yeah I think some are hung up on the Wilson of a few years ago. Significant drop off last season.
Agree
I was quite relieved when he came on. It was noticeable that the defence had a lot more time.
-
This was an excellent win.
West Ham are a good side that has come into some form and Nuno is a good coach.
To be fair, I think their league position is a bit false
We rarely do well down there, too, so we shouldn’t underestimate how good a win this was
-
Blimey Nigel. I think you’re being too generous! They looked shite to me and the football Nuno serves up isn’t any different to Allardyce et al. It’s effective some times, but dour.
-

Ha
That’s fair, mate.
Perhaps I’m guilty of bigging up other teams for the benefit of our wins. 😂
-
Nothing wrong with that mate :)
One thing that made me chuckle was late on, they made a load of subs with the players coming on all massive. They were obviously hoping to get a few corners but got none!
-
Those subs felt like resignation to me. The players going off were much better than the ones coming on.

If I remember rightly, we were in for him at Norwich and went with the guy from Brentford who lasted a season.

West Ham fans are saying that was the best home performance of the season, even though they have actually won other games

He was at Hull prior to West Ham, he scored his first goal for them against us. Think we were rumoured to be interested when we were buying all the best players in the Championship a bit before West Ham came in for him.
-

Says it all. Konsa handed them their first goal and was piss poor for their second. The only time I saw decent play from them was when Pacqueta (I think) slipped Bowen through for the offside goal and he finished superbly.
I thought they were incredibly poor. Tactically too they were a mess. Lindelof's full PL debut for us and they never really pressed him all that hard to force him more onto his left foot. Nuno prefers that low block but they aren't defensively strong enough for it. AWB was destroyed by Rogers, both centre backs were rubbish and nothing on the bench.

They have the worst centre halves in the league for me and they paid about £80m or so for that privilege.

I though their midfield was decent, they tracked their men and were aggressive in trying to win the ball back. When you’re in their position that’s a good base to build from.

I thought they had a lot of energy until our 3rd goal and it kind of deflated them

Yep, I think that sounds right. We were definitely said to be in for him at the time.

Sometimes the players look like they are beaten?
Often times we the fans believe we are beaten?
BUT
In Unai's world we are never ever beaten!

That Kilman dude from Wolves cost them huge money too and he was only on the bench.

I'm not advocating it but he's better than you credit him. I know he's Cov like "Madders" and we have to hate him cos of annoying colleagues from that terrible place etc. but as Smirker might put it, Wilson has scored 4 league goals so far this season. One goal every 153 minutes. Watkins has 3. One goal every 400 minutes.
Better record across his career too. I'd take the former's finishing with Ollie's everything else.
-
Are people advocating signing Callum Wilson?
-
Wilson would be ok as a sub but he's spent years rarely being fit enough to start.
-
granted not on for long but Wilson hardly looked lively
-
Are people advocating signing Callum Wilson?
Dunno. I'm just suggesting he isn't crap and can still finish.
-
I'm finding opposition goals mildly irritating these days, comforted in the knowledge we will just score more.
-
Nothing wrong with that mate :)

I thought exactly the same. They were getting bigger as they come on.
My lad said ‘maybe taking Onana off was a bad idea’ 😂

I think your obsession is even weirder than Smirker's.
At least he has the reality of this season on his side when it comes to Watkins.
-

It's true, I didn't worry when we went 1-0 down, and I didn't worry too much when we went 2-1 down. The only time I lost it thinking we'd thrown it away was when Bowen grabbed his disallowed goal. I thought scoring another 2 was probably beyond us at that stage.
It's really nice to be supporting a team where conceding the first goal doesn't knock the stuffing out of them. There is a belief we will score, not only from the players, but also from the fans.
Given the last 20-odd years, it makes a nice change...
-
Agree with that Smithy but I was unusually nervous about this game, there's always one team (Sheff Utd) that can ruin the party. Form goes out the window. That said, I've never felt so calm about playing Man U. Even with their usual help from the ref, Villa Park will be electric and I really fancy us to smash them.

I didn’t see the game yesterday but i have seen every other game this season either live or on TV and most of the games he’s played, he’s been very good. So a joke about rarely being a bad idea talikg him off on the back of fairly regularly slating him over the months, is a bit misplaced.

He has played a key role since coming back into the team. He bossed the Man City game.
Him and Kamara and even McGinn in first half were way below par. A weeks rest should do them good. Yourri looked the freshesy understandably.
-
Brontebilly still slagging off Onana now is Comical Ali levels of football expertise. He has been mostly excellent.

McGinn set up our first goal and was far from average. Kamara was average for sure but Onana was just shite. Just cruising at little or no intensity. Same as his performance in Basel. With Tielemans in there I'm expecting us to have far too much for West Ham in there but that didn't happen. Not until Tielemans dropped back anyway. Can't remember what poster said it on match thread but they were worried about taking Onana off for defending set pieces. Valid but a 50m midfielder should be expected to do a lot more between both boxes.
Onana did have a very good game v Man City, arguably his best for the club. Did ok v Arsenal too, despite losing possession for their goal. But it's a different kind of pressure against those teams where you have to sit in at times, even Diego Carlos shone in similar circumstances. On days when he's required to step up and dominate weaker opposition he rarely does.
-

Mostly doing a lot of heavy lifting there
