Lovely read.

That’s a lovely read. I agree about that goal, that was the day that I thought that we would win the league. It remains one of my favourite Villa Park goals.
Under Unai the sky is the limit and there will be goals that actually mean more but in a less important way.

Me , my brother and cousin (all young lads) thought Dennis thought he was offside, he looked left and right. We thought he was looking for the linesman flag, he was probably looking for Shaw or Withe, he didn't need either as it transpired. The age old argument , who was Villa's greatest player..Warring, Hitchens, Lochhead ,Little, Gray, Shaw , McGrath or Gordon Sidney Cowans (my vote) . It will never be settled. The greatest ever Villa captain, however, is a open and shut case IMHO ..step forward Dennis Mortimer.
Great read by the way.

Enjoyed that.

Brilliant read Dave and congratulations on your newest member of the family.

Thanks Daz. He says thanks as well.

Great read as always.
Made me think what would a Villa captain have to do to overtake Dennis Mortimer and be regarded as our greatest ever captain. I genuinely cannot think of anything. Even if he won the League and the European Cup and some more silverware and was our captain for at least 10 years, I'd still pick Dennis.

Archie Hunter, IMO.

Dennis
The gift that Ron bought us for Christmas

Archive Hunter, IMO.
Did his research on the opposition.

Oophs. Autocorrect.

John Devey got us five league titles and two FA Cups.

Like Saunder’s team, this lot are developing a tough resilience and a strong self belief, not just in their colleagues, but in the manager. And that’ll take us a long way, even when we play hopelessly. We’re not invincible, but there’s something brewing and it’s not just my trapped wind.

I was at the match at Goodison Park the day Tony Morley scored 'that' goal which was not long after that Liverpool match and as Denis Mortimer burst through on goal this Scouser standing close to me said 'He's gonna fuckin' do to us what he did to Liverpool' which he duly did. They were very similar in their execution.
