Job done and thank fuck it's over.
-
8)
-
Get home safe everybody
-
If we hadn't shit the bed for the last game, we wouild have been second.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
-
Just walking out and disappointing to see our fans having a go at some anti Israel protester in the park.
-
Did what we needed to, glad its done with, good result, well done the lads.
-
Edit, was replying to a post way up.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
I reckon I could name about five of them, but not the rest.
-
A win. In the end very comfortable, and pretty low intensity - no ideal for entertainment, but job done. Good to see Youri back.
Get home safe folks.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
It was so low I know about 75% of them.
-
Job done and safe travel home Villa fans.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
Not all of them but I was with Adam, Steve and Richard tonight.
-
Def played in 2nd gear. A few run outs at end, good for Sunday…Youri especially.
-
Never seen the ground so empty as quick.
-
3 points.
Youri and the little wizard back.
And that's about it.
-
MTA fans being held back.
-
pretty boring 3 pts , youri back and no injuries .. I will take that
-
Job done. 3 points. Soft penalty decision, though.
-
Job done.
Let them get hell out of here.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
Bored, mostly.
-
Got the result, but a tough watch at times. Once Youri came on it became more entertaining. I do wonder if Youri could be the key to Rogers getting back on track and showing what he is capable of.
-
Couple of big stops from Emi followed by another cock up with his distribution. We were clearly playing within ourselves and were able to. Hopefully Youri being back helps with the creative side. I'd be fuming if that pen was given the other way.
-
Hopefully Ezri will be ok after the savage assault for the pen.
-
Job done. 3 points. Soft penalty decision, though.
I’d have been fuming if that had been given against us.
-
Just glad its over and hope everyone gets home safe.
-

I’d say Rogers is already getting back on track. Tielemans will help though.
-
Quite a dull match but they’ve been able to rest in possession and not had to expend much energy. Which is good with Bournemouth coming up on Sunday.
-
Mostly shit.
A win.
A pen scored.
Next.
-
We still are not creating lots of simple chances. The forward players, and runners from midfield need to do more.
-

I’d have been fuming if that had been given against us.

I’m always fuming when a penalty is given against us. Nevertheless, that was definitely a penalty.]
-
3 pts, job done and we move on, never been so happy seeing the back of a game since playing the filth.
Youri looked like he’d missed a game not 10. Good minutes for lil Emi too.
-
Anyone know the crowd?
I may have known a couple of them but not all of them.
-

It was maybe a pen, it was very soft.
-
Decent win. Would like to see Malen get a run of games up top, looks far sharper and confident than Ollie.

Yeah, Malen actually collects the ball and gets a shot off when he's played through
-
I always stop off for a pint at the Tyburn House as it’s the one to beat last orders. Tonight here in record time.
Unconvincing display. First half we didn’t look balanced. Guessand and Sancho looked out of it. Onana frustrating. Will still haven’t solved our striker issues. Neither Malen nor Watkins clinical. Rogers passing too wayward for a 10.
McGinn, Buendia and Tielemans made a huge positive difference
-
Glad that's over, in more ways than one.
We walked down the back of the doug to the north and saw about 10 people with an Israel flag. That was it. Maybe it was all the other side by the trinity?
Most exciting thing was the police plane circling around on the way back to the car.
-
Konsa is a diving fvcker. Just as well, I guess...
-
Bogarde looked good.
Onana takes too many touches. Showed up by Tielemans. Will be interesting to see how he links up with Buendia.
Ongoing concerns up front with poor displays from Guessand and Sancho.
Job done I guess and players back for Bournemouth - so looking good.
-
-
Lack of creativity again, but I'm sure when Youri gets to full fitness, he wil solve that problem, couldn't understand why at 2 nil, we were happy to see the game out, rather than go for the jugular.
-
Very easy win without ever getting out of first gear. Good to see Tielemans and Buendia back out there.
-
Wasn't the greatest of games but it was a win and the whole debacle is over.
-
Fairly routine win against poor opposition and felt lime a pre-season friendly at times. Great cameo from Tielemans when he came on.
-
Don't think they were poor opposition. We certainly let them run in behind a few times and Emi made a couple of fine saves.
-
A routine win. We even let them have a few decent chances, just to show we're not *total* anti-semites.
-
Great cameo from Tielemans when he came on.
I’m so pleased he’s back.
-
The record books will show we won the game 2-0 on a night that was overshadowed by events outside of the clubs control. Another three points on the board and looking strong for progression to the next round. Maybe that's all we should focus on.
In terms of positive performances, Konsa was very strong again, Rogers showed his class at times and Tielemans had an outstanding cameo. Pretty much everything else ranked from average to rotten. They were maybe on a par with Hibs as the weakest team we have played at European level in recent years. Yet, 2-0 flattered us with a joke penalty putting the game beyond them.
Team selection was poor. Enough to be too strong for these fair enough. But our right side was tragically poor again, Onana not trying a leg in midfield and Malen stinking it out leading the line. The amount of clearcut chances we conceded to such a poor team was ridiculous. Already serious question marks have to be raised about our summer transfer business. Billy Elliot has a better chance of getting minutes for us than Harvey it looks like.
Martinez 6 - couple of decent saves but half arsed like a lot of them. Repeated his Liverpool pass in the second half.
Lindelof 3 - not his fault to be picked there but worse than Disasi at right back.
Konsa 8 - a cruise, in a strong run of form
Torres 6 - hesitant in his passing tonight which didn't help
Maatsen 7 - scored a fine goal when we were really struggling. Good shot from distance in second. Good bit of cruising too in between
Onana 3 - rotten, replica of his second half performance v the Eagles. The difference when we put a footballer in there was ridiculous
Bogarde 5 - didn't agree with the praise he was getting from the commentator. Regularly caught ahead of the ball and limited with it. Don't want to see him partnered with Onana again if we can help it.
Guessand 3 - to say he struggled to make an impact would be an understatement. Didn't need to see him tonight, that's on Emery. Let's hope Monchi made the decision to spend 30m on him!
Sancho 5 - few nice touches, sharp cross and involved in the first goal but on a night he needed to make a strong impression he really didn't
Rogers 7 - got us going I thought, nice play to put Maatsen through and used his strength well at times
Malen 4 - penalty aside, rubbish yet again leading the line. His lack of gumption dealing with the rebound off the keeper was awful.
Subs, Tielemans outstanding. Rest were ok, lovely pass by McGinn to put Ollie through for a confidence boosting goal at end, the rest of that play was hard to watch.
-

They made a big deal of the Emi save in the first half on the commentary. Awful miss and I think it was going wide if he hadn’t got in the way. The one in the second half was better.
-
Dullest game for a long while.
Hopefully Pau isn’t too badly injured. There was some doubt about him starting the second half, but he looked to be doing ok.
Never seen so many players having a lie down as MTA did.
Couple of good saves by Emi, fluky goal from Maat and a crafty stumble by Ezri.
Bogie did well and great to have YT back.
Only agro saw was Villa fans having a moan at some coppers because they weren’t allowed to walk up Trinity Road from the Holte after the game. I’d just walked the opposite way and saw no reason for stopping people. The protesters had gone.

Your ratings have given me a good laugh. Thanks for that, it’s been a dull evening and I needed a lighter moment.

Don't think they were poor opposition. We certainly let them run in behind a few times and Emi made a couple of fine saves.
Mate, they were awful. Lower Championship / League One standard at best.
-
Considering we risked our lives attending a football match tonight, the least they could have done was win by 5 or 6.
Mentions for Konsa who was imperious.
Martinez who made a couple of decent saves before nearly ‘doing a Liverpool’.
Bogarde looked assured.
Tielemans did more in his cameo than some of the starters.
I thought Guessand was atrocious, again.
Onana was lazy.
Everyone else did ok against a team that were as good as the best teams in the Coronation league.
-

Fair enough. Just going off the highlights and the odd glance across in the second half when The Traitors was on.
-
Like the way Malen "softened" the keeper up when they "collided" a few minutes before the pen.
He took the pen really well.
-
Job done, minimum of fuss, couple of silly moments when they got behind us but Martinez showing why he’s still the worlds no 1. We didn’t need to get out of 1st or 2nd gear and have saved some energy for Sunday. An oozing class little cameo from Youri as well. Cash and Digne got the whole night off as well so will be nice and fresh for Bournemouth’s wing wizards on Sunday.
-

I'm sorry whaaat? Flukey goal? A great run by Maatsen. A super little through ball by Rogers and a sublime finish by "Maat" That what I saw and that's what the studio commentators and live commentary saw. If you were joking I apologise profusely as it went straight over my head.
-
They were shit but not quite as shit as I thought they would be. We, as is our way made it look far more difficult than it should have been. What it wasn’t was an advert for the Young Boys game. Had I not bought the game package I’d have given that one a miss. £40 for something that resembles a preseason friendly is steep.
Still, we won so I don’t feel that short changed.
-
MOTM for me was Bogarde who did well in two positions.
Agree with Bronte (is that actually allowed?) that having Lindy and Evann on the right side together is not the wisest move. Nothing against VL -he looked fine when moved to centre-back, which is what he is.
Thought Malen could have had four goals, if their 'keeper hadn't made a couple of good saves.
Tielemans (superb!), Little Emi and Bouba showed the value of first-time passing and how it changes the whole nature of the game. More on Sunday, please.
-
Just glad it's over and done with. Got the three points and no real drama on or off the pitch. It was odd pre match getting spoken to by so many police as we walked to the game just casually saying 'good evening and enjoy the game' . The smaller crowd certainly made getting back on the M6 quicker afterwards...
-
I'm also glad it's over we can now move on.

Was Pau injured? I thought it was just a change to limit his minutes.

There’s a chasm of difference between this competition and the Champions League.
There was so much furore around the club’s pricing policy for the CL last year, but this is much poorer value for fans - should be charging £30 a ticket for the group games at least.
-
Agree it’s a very much after the Lord Mayors show competition.
It feels a bit dull and irrelevant.
Plodders League.

I know what you mean and I agree the prices are too high. Last night was an exceptional case but I doubt Young Boys and Salzburg will sell out either. However, I think there's only a chasm of difference between the very top end of the CL amd this comp. After all, we are playing two teams we played last season again this time around

Plodders League.
Was thinking that last night, so different from the great and noisy nights of last season. Let’s qualify for latter stages, should pick up then.
-
The BBC called it laboured, I called it routine but there does seem to be a bit of saltiness from the media given the lack of rioting in Birmingham yesterday.
We did what we had to on a night that is best forgotten and it was the perfect outcome. I can't believe I'm saying it but a routine Sunday afternoon fixture against Bournemouth feels something to approach with relish. We may not prevail but any ire will be about matters on the pitch, which is how it should be.

Different mindset I guess. We're one of the favourites and there's a much higher expectation in these games against Go Ahead, MTA, Young Boys etc who look really limited. Hopefully there's 35k+ on though for the next two.
-
Bogarde looked good.
I’ve been really impressed with him this season. He looks very classy and assured in everything he does.
The next thing he needs is the aura to control the whole game and that’s hard do without minutes on the pitch. Our challenge might be finding him enough matches.
-
It was sooo dull. YTv and SJM obviously enlivened the game but before their appearance it was pretty grim.
Guessand and Sancho have confirmed the limit of their likely influence in future games, and I think we're missing Ramsey more than we thought we would: he gave us some balance on the list, enabling SJM to play off the right and Rogers to roam. Anyway, we are where we are and I hope Emery can make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
Onwards.
