Let's hope Elliott has learnt his lesson and holds on to the ball too long, rather than release it quickly.

Kamara not playing is really weird.  I guess it’s all guns blazing from the start.

Surely it’s last chance saloon for Rogers today, at least for a while if we see another clown show.  He can do it, we’ve seen it before.  Fingers firmly crossed he shakes off whatever it is that he’s struggling with.

My guess is he feels beat Feynoord on Thursday and we should piss the group phase.

Torres strange omission as Mings slow the game down too much.
Be interesting to see how Elliot steps up
Kamara only just back from injury so understate

Mcginn and Bogarde defensively ok but no pace or zip in midfield

every team sheet amazes me .

I always scratch my head and think really ?

was happy to see Elliot in and then I see Kamara not starting . Him and Torres was brilliant on Thursday and Sancho deserves a start .

Lets hope Rogers actually gets  pass to Watkins as I heard its 2 passes he has got to him  in 440 minutes .

Torres made more progressive runs and forward passes in his last game than Watkins and Rogers put together have all season so says Stato

So we can’t be having any of that you better sit on the bench until you learn your lesson

Aren't they complete opposites? One was a maverick whose only defensive work was slicing clearances. The other is a grafter with what looks to be questionable technique.

Combine the two and you'd have a 100m player. In isolation...not sure on either.

Dropping Torres after a really solid performance in the week keeps him high on confidence and fresh for Thursday night. I'm not sure I would fancy him today up against Jimenez. Mings should be able to take care of him.

Great to see Bogarde starting. He's there on merit.

Agreed. Jiminez gave Torres a roughing up not too long back. I don't think we have many goals in us, so need to be able to deal with that physicality.

If we had a properly quick forward who loved to run in behind, it wouldn't half stop teams pressing us so aggressively and ease the pressure on our back line.

As it is, their high press means we desperately need Torres as he's the only defender we've got capable of consistently picking passes in a tight space.

It still has a horrible Gerrardesque feeling about it from where I am.

I'd snap your arm off for the 14 league wins we managed in that 2021/22 Smith/Gerrard season.

It's a struggle to see where the 10 will come from, at the minute.

Our owners are going to intervene at some point. I really don’t want Emery gone, but it’s clear our players are suffering with confidence, belief.

If we don’t get three points today, how much longer is it going to be before they intervene?

The players owe Emery massively and they are all failing him with one or two exceptions. But it’s just not good enough at all.

Great ball from McGinn, unlucky Rogers, not an easy ball to bring down over your shoulder. That used to be reserved for Bergkamp.

No issue with the first penalty claim, he showed no interest in getting back on the ball when he dinked it past Martinez, more interested in the penalty than the ball.  The Cash one, physically stops the ball from going towards goal and whilst accidental, I think we got away with that one.

He put the ball one way and then went in the opposite direction to throw himself over Martinez. He made no attempt to get the ball and just went for the foul. The pundits asking what he was supposed to do might look at it again and ask what Martinez was supposed to do?

I reckon he'd be a much better player if he didn't try to do something many things that he's just not good enough to do.

Agreed. It looks like he's trying to emulate Maradona whenever he gets the ball. I appreciate the intent, but knowing when to just keep it simple is a skill in itself

Watkins, hasn't scored for 50 minutes, he needs to be replaced, not good enough.

Get in Villa! Much better, still loads of room for improvement too, especially going forwards but that is gratefully received. McGinn MotM and shoutout for Buendia who made a difference going forwards. I think as we grow in confidence, more of what we try will start to come off.
