Title: Aston Villa v Fulham Pre-Match
Post by: eamonn on September 26, 2025, 11:01:16 AM
Aston Villa v Fulham
Sun Sep 28th 2pm

I wonder who Phillipe Senderos and Steve Sidwell will be cheering for...or if Adama Traore will get wistful for his time here as he lathers on the baby oil to his stressed muscles, before the game.

In my head this is usually a fixture we do well in.  Hopefully we start well and get an efficient nerve-free 2-0 win

Unbeatable Villa, as we should now be called, or maybe "Freescoring Unbeatable Villa" are dead certs to win this game now, I'd say, such is our ability to score loads of goals (3 goals in 3 games!) and our 2 match unbeaten run.  3 matches if you include Brentford, which we only lost on penalties ... and only complete LOSERS score penalties anyway.

We're favourite with the bookies, and they're never wrong. Villa win, 2-1.

I mentioned on the Brum News thread but for those coming from further away the M6 is closed at Junction 4 and 4a for the weekend. Official diversions are below but I suspect Spaghetti will be packed with people deciding to make their own runs along Chester Road in either direction, especially if the queues back start getting around there.

Quote
Where are the diversion routes?
HS2 said drivers travelling northbound on the M6 would exit at junction 4, join the M42 southbound and leave at the junction 6 roundabout, on to the M42 northbound.

They would later use the junction 7 slip road to rejoin the M6 northbound.

Meanwhile, those travelling southbound on the M6 will be diverted at junction 4A on to the M42 northbound and carry on up to junction 9.

There, they will come off at the roundabout and rejoin the M42 southbound to eventually access the M6 southbound.

As for drivers wanting to join the M6 southbound from the M42 at junction 7A, they will continue northbound up to junction 9, before rejoining the M42 southbound and getting on the M6 at its junction 3A.

The painful and slow return to something like the team we've watched for the last few years continued last night and I think it will on Sunday.

We looked good in some areas last night, the defence and central midfield should remain untouched but it's elsewhere that will be the focus again.

I would take Rogers out of the firing line and bring him on at some point just to take the pressure off and give us all an opportunity to show that we're still behind him as he takes the field. Start Elliot, Sancho and Watkins, retain Guessand.

2-1

Hang on, you've predicted 0-2 in every game since 2014. What the hell... ?

We'll grind out a win, it won't be pretty but it will be another shot in the arm confidence wise. Elliott will play.

Hello from this Fulham fan, our season so far has been ok, draw at Brighton with last minute goal after not playing too good, two appalling VAR decisions against Chelsea and Man Utd, beating Leeds with a 93rd minute OG, beating Brentford quite comfortably, plus two league cup wins, funnily enough our leading goal scorer so far is 3 OGs, you seem to struggling a bit this season, it would be be typically Fulhamish if Ollie Watkins turns into a Mbappe/Kane forward and scores a hatrick!! That’s why going for a1-0 Fulham win Mings OG!! Only joking I’m pretty sure will eventually turn it around, hopefully not starting Sunday

Good to see you on here again Franky.
I think you are everything we are not right now, structured well organised.
It will be a tight game, if Emery picks the right team we might edge it.
But I am not banking on it.

Never get the hype over Marco Silva and the way he sets his teams up

To be fair he’s done a good job there. They’re a good side.

Welcome back Franky. Silva is a top coach, you should be aiming for Europe. What's the craic with Harry Wilson, did he really want to leave for Leeds?

not sure maybe he wanted regular starts, they was talks of getting George from Chelsea,  but he’s started the season well, he’s far better than Traore at the moment

I didnt know Fuham had signed Chukwueze , one of Emerys old players , hope hes injured then.
Kevin is a good player so hoping he isnt playing .
I would drop Rogers but you know Emery will play him .  Love to see Elliot and Sancho start and I actually think Guessand will be a good signing , the othe teams seem to put 2/3 players on him so once hes learned to release it quick with the free players avaliable he will get better .  I thought Torres was brilliant Thursday with kamara but will Emery save him for Thursday again and rest him.
Im going 2 0 .  Elliot and Sancho.

It’s a shame we’re hopeless this year there’s plenty of teams we’d be expecting to compete with dropping points.

But I do think for all the imperfection Thursday was a noticeable step forward. Hopefully it continues.

( And we won 👍)

If Emery can get the selection right we have a decent chance, but based on recent history I am not convinced he will.

I think your probably right about Mings and Digne, but Ill be pretty gutted if Torres and Maatsen don’t start. Mings and Digne are both really solid for us, but our whole attacking dynamic changes with the other two in. I wouldn’t start Beundia either, despite him buzzing around a lot on Thursday, would give Sancho a go from the off.

It's got to be....

Martinez

Cash
Konsa
Torres
Maatsen

Kamara
McGinn

Elliott
Rogers
Sancho

Watkins

if we had more options then some of those starters would be in the bin too.

We have to get back into the mentality of trying to win games rather than not lose them. Thursday was one step towards that, it needs to continue.

Not sure how to call this one but going for a narrow home win. Although the performances have been generally poor, it's easy to forget that we have only lost twice in the league and the three draws does rather distort the league positions. Add to that, apart from the Palace game (and they are flying right now) we are not conceding as many as we did previously. Fingers crossed !

Probably the team I would go for as well.  If one of Tielemans, Onana or even Barkley were fit, I'd put them alongside Kamara, push McGinn up and give Rogers a breather to get himself together again.
