Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of Fletcher Boyd from Aberdeen.

The Scotland youth international made his Dons debut aged 16 in May 2024, becoming the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

Academy Manager Mark Harrison said: “We’re delighted Fletcher has joined us, he is a player our recruitment department have been monitoring for a while.

“He has good technical attributes and can play in a variety of attacking positions as well as in midfield.

“He also has experience of playing in Aberdeen’s first team, which is invaluable as a young player.

“We look forward to seeing how Fletcher develops over the coming seasons.”

Good to see we're planning ahead to maintain Villa's traditional links with Scotland. Every great Villa team has had a Scot or two.

Welcome, Fletcher. He must be good if we aren't loaning him out again.

Nope, it's a club, singular.

No, it's a collective. Bren is correct. "We" not "he".

I will look forward to him being loaned out / playing his way into the first team and then being the subject of intense rumour and speculation about a move to SpursManUtdChelseaArsenalLiverpool.

I don't think he's particularly popular there. Anyway we need to keep him in England for two years before his twenty-first birthday so he counts as "home grown".

They don't sound happy about having to let him go. Can only be a good sign.

If he scores as many as dad, Kris, he'll prove to be a good acquisition.

You can't lead with your cleavage like that, you absolute spreadsheet tease. I've got a team of quite intimidating obese teenagers here and I need sell-ons, buy-backs, obligations, Austin Montegos. Give me some percentages man or it's going to kick right fucking off.

I once maxed my Dads Austin Montego on the A38 Lichfield Bypass if that helps.

Carry on, as you were.

I once had a Montego Sport while my MK III Ford Escort was in for repair. I had it for 2 whole days. It felt like I’d made it as my work colleagues looked on in awe.

Back in the 80s your standard Montego had a less than favourable opinion by ambitious reps. Stick MG 2L and Sport on them and it was a completely different ball game.

I had a Montego many years ago, couldn't keep door handles on it and amongst other things it had odd sized wheels that you couldn't buy wheel trims to fit. I went to the scrap yard and got four Metro wheels and they fit like a dream.

I think the Villa players had them as club cars in the first Graham Taylor era. I saw Tony Daley in one (I think).

Ah I used to absolutely twat the Sutton by pass bit of the A38 when I werra a young lad behind the wheel. Got up to 96 in me mam's J (original J, 1970) Escort. Can't do it anymore because of the bloody stupid M6 toll roundabouts  (which also sliced lovely Fox Hill Road in half) [get back on topic - Ed.]

In all seriousness, as he signed after the window closed, I presume he wouldn't be eligible for the first team until the January window opens?

Is it not the case that we did all the paperwork before the deadline but were waiting for FIFA approval? In which case he should be fine, I think?

If that country is Scotland, it's a low bar.

I think so, he wouldn't be eligible for us at any level if that wasn't the case.

We had the partnership with the local Rover dealership which meant they could drive a Metro, Maestro and Montegro slowly around the side of the pitch at half time.

I saw Tony Daley park up and get out of a Red MG Montego on Newhall Street one Sunday evening back in 90/91 when I was out with the lads.
I also saw Andy Comyn getting into a Montego in the players car park but he obviously wasn’t deemed worthy of the MG one, just your bog standard Austin.
