This is the toughest of the three games we have left. There's no one doing us any favours so is a must win. 2-1 Villa.
-
We need to win, we will win. Put me down for 2-0. Ollie breaks the record, Malen finishes things off late.
-
Not sure my nerves can take anymore.
Horrible tin pot shouty little ground.
A draw.
-
This one is bloody tough, but like all the games is must win.
-
Shit or bust. Head says draw, heart says Villa win.
-
The momentum appears to be taking us to the Europa League, but only just and to stem the tide nothing less than a win will suffice while we have our fingers crossed for other results.
This feels like the sort of place that will trip us up, fine Manager, fine team, entirely where they are on merit but a defeat will still seem unjust. Fortunately I'm spending the weekend in fucking London so will probably miss the game.
2-0

This is me.
Will go with the heart, 2-0 us, Watkins, Rogers

Tough game - think it could be a draw

Malen to come on and get the winner.

Malen to come on and get the winner.
I'll take that!

Malen to come on and get the winner.
Might bump him up to a lofty 5/10? ;)
-
"3/10 - people will go on about his hat-trick, but completely ignore the time he gave the ball away"

Wasn't bronte quite generous with his scores last game? Either he's turned over a new leaf, or I've started to dream about his posts, which would be concerning.

He was as he’d obviously taken all of our piss taking to heart by posting scores that none of
Us could disagree with. That said I quite like someone having a view of the Villa that would make L’Equipe match reporters blush in its unremitting negativity. Then again he’s a positive ray of sunshine compared to several utter ****** on here I could mention.

Unless Pau gets injured, Mings won’t start any of the last three games. Agree with it or not, Unai has set his stall out on this one.

Mings probably starts then!

It's probably been mentioned well before now, but during the commentary on Saturday's game it was stated that there is only one player who has played more games under Unai Emery than Pau Torres has played, throughout Unai's coaching career. That's how highly he rates him.
-
Wrong thread.

I'm sure there was a quote somewhere as well where Emery described him as his perfect centre-back.
Unfortunately some are probably going to have to get used to the idea that Emery's Villa probably have Pau Torres as the left-sided centre-back.

In the Sky feature with Ramsay & Rogersthey were asked who were Unai’s favourites and they said it was 2 players - they both agreed that it was Bouba and Pau.

Yep our record recently has been so poor.

As clearly evidenced by how bad we’ve done since bringing Pau into the club.
-
And we've outscored the other team in twelve of our last sixteen matches.
-
It is weird when someone entirely takes against a player.

Yep our record recently has been so poor.
We are on a very good run recently in which Mings has played in the majority of the wins and in none of the defeats . I do accept that Emery prefers Torres as evidenced in recent team selections .
Anyway back to the game and i do think we can win this. Wolves won here recently too. First goal will be crucial .
-
We’ve got a pretty appalling record there - we really need to start on the front foot.
-
Do we? In the Premier League era, we have won 1, lost 2 and drawn once. At home we have won 2, lost 2 and drawn once. Under Emery we have not lost to them.
-
I do not fancy us at all, I fear we'll go for control again and just hand it to the opposition.
-
We really need to win this game.
-
In case anyone is interested
-
I had no idea the capacity was so small there. They've done amazingly well as a club in the modern era.
-

They said Ever Banega was the player which I was surprised at,

He had him at both Valencia and Sevilla - I think it's one of those thing's that's less impressive as it's more just a case of "which players have played at more than one club for Emery", rather than someone who plays all the time for him.
Obviously he'd have to like the player a fair bit to want to take him to a new club though.
-
Can’t see us winning this I’m afraid
Draw 1-1
-
Can’t see us winning this I’m afraid
Draw 1-1
Yes, I feel a bit like that, but I don't know why really. We could've done with Chelsea playing Liverpool rather than Liverpool reserves and some other hungover chumps. If we do manage to beat Bournemouth and other results are kind, it'll start looking very doable again though so I hope our instincts are wrong!
-
I have the unnerving feeling we will blow it.
1-1
-
2-0 to us. I don’t care who scores just do it. We’ve just got to go for it
-
Bailey might be key in this if he can bring back his 2024 form for a few weeks . We will have had a full week to get ready too something we haven't had for a while.
-

Same here. Win this one though, and I'll really will believe that we can do it.

This. No more cautious and dull pissy passing it backwards and sideways between the defence for 45 minutes, no more 'respect to the opposition' bollocks, rip their fcuking throats out a score a couple of goals, ideally 16 though 12 would be a start. Oh and a clean sheet, obviously.

Oh God no: I haven't recovered from Boxing Day 2023!
-
this is must win but I've got a feeling Villa will totally flap it and after all the commotion spurs becomes a dead rubber.
Its always been a tricky fixture in that small stadium for some reason. I remember a game in particular when semenyo ran us ragged. I've just watched their expansion video posted above and they're claiming they have 15k on their waiting list! ;D a town the size of redditch, no history and a crap badge...hope we smash 'em
-
They mercilessly dumped Boscombe adopted a crap badge and built a crap ground.
-
I have the unnerving feeling we will blow it.
1-1
That's not exactly blowing it, is it? A draw at Bmouth this season would be a very decent result. If it is or was blown maybe v them at home or West Ham or manu at home is the place to look.
-
Bournemouth is way bigger than Redditch, they also pretty much have an entire county to themselves fooitball wise. A successful Bournemouth probably can pull 20-25k. The issue they've had is not owning the ground and also if the expense of a bigger stadium is worth it for a club that's spent the majority of its history in the 3rd tier, where they absolutely don't need a bigger stadium.
I like clubs like Bournemouth in the top flight.
-
Marginal increases to get to 20-23,000 seems about right for Bournemouth. If they're absolutely packing that out year after year and never threatening to go down, then maybe reconsider at a later date.

There on merit.
Unlike Tarquin FC the cheating bastards
-
Quite correct.
-
You'd think the trap door will get them eventually. So many clubs of the same, or even bigger, size have done 5-10 years since football began in 1992.
Portsmouth
Stoke
Swansea
Hull
Reading
West Brom
Blues
Wigan
Norwich
Who has broken that cycle? Fulham are probably the best argument against, but maybe they've just done it twice.
-
Maybe. Southampton, Coventry and Wimbledon all had lengthy stays. Of the current crop, Brighton will have a decade uninterrupted in the top flight if they don't go down next season. You're right though, if I had to bet on Bournemouth staying up until at least 2035 or going down once or more in that period, I'd choose the latter.
-
They will do well to get as good a manager when Iraloa departs.
-

It did. Bournemouth were the "victims" of the Hawkeye failure in 2020.
-
I have a funny feeling Leicester will surprise Forest - local Derby, Vardy etc
We really have to win this by any means necessary
-
I think Leicester might have a chance at home, but can't see it at Forest unless they've gone all-in with the 1998/99 Villa collapse tribute.
-
Sounds like Tielemans is out for the rest of the season, he'll be a big loss here if true.
-
When The Cherries were floating Div 1 most locals who were into football had them as a second team. I would also go to the idd game particularly if a Villa youngster was on loan. They seemed to have years of people outside with buckets wanting coins to help save the club as they were always in financial troubles. To see them competing so well in the Prem is remarkable. The newer fans are insufferable though and if course it doesn't help when our record at Dean Court is not great...
-
Sounds like Tielemans is out for the rest of the season, he'll be a big loss here if true.
Yep muscle injury. Huge loss for the run in
-
Big blow, need someone to step up.
-
They should have been made to extend the away end as soon as they came to the Prem . They take the £100's millions yet behaved like a 3rd Div club for years . No problem with the home end staying small if they don't have fans but cater for the teams fans you compete with in the big league.
-
It's a big game for Bournemouth too, they'll be desperate to win to grab a European spot. They'll press very high & we need to be very cautious if we want to play out from the back.
I'm not confident because I think we'll gift them enough opportunities to win it whist squandering the chances we get.
-
Fuck Bournemouth, their position has as much to do with financial doping as Man Citeh's.
Plus they'll definitely beat us.
-
Fuck Bournemouth, their position has as much to do with financial doping as Man Citeh's.
How so? Isn't their "financial doping" a lot closer to our own methods of spending our way out of the Championship and then spending big / recruiting well to stay out of it?
-
Yeah I was going to say, can’t see how our approach differs much.
-
They had spent a sum total of three seasons in the top two divisions until a Russian billionaire bought them and spent enough cash to get them into the Prem. See also Wigan Athletic this century and Hoffemheim if you want to go further afield.
Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of variety in the top flight and more power to their elbow to some extent but they only are where they are because they won the ownership lottery, like Man Citeh.
-
I'm just glad we don't have any pesky billionaire owners spending a fortune.
-
I didn't think Bournemouth being in a false position primarily due to financial largesse was a particularly hot take but there you go
-
Well yeah but that’s as much a reflection of modern day football as anything. We obviously have a much more storied history, but we’re not where we are now without the intervention of two billionaires.
-
I'm conflicted on Bournemouth, because on the one hand it's great that they have been able to come from where they were to be realistic challengers for European football - without the ability of clubs to do that English football would be severely diminished. Unfortunately no-one can do that withoutthe largesse of some billionaire nowadays, but that's not exclusive to Bournemouth or their fault.
On the other hand, it isn't right that they have been able to get away with spending hundreds of millions on players without doing anything about the non-league standard shit tip they play at. They have the smallest ground in the top two divisions, and even their only competitor for that title in Luton have pretty much used the money they got from their one year in the PL to get spades in the ground on a new stadium. Bournemouth have had 10 years now on and off to get it sorted, it's not fair to other clubs who have spent 10's if not 100's of millions getting their grounds up to scratch.
-
at the very minimum they should have been made to accommodate 3000 away fans . Tinpot wankers
-

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiment, aren't away ticket prices capped? So funding a new stand that will take forever to pay for itself would be way down the list of priorities I'd guess.

my point was they should have been made to do that as a bare minimum at their cost . Taking the Prem money and acting like they're still in Div 3 .
-
I couldn't care less now big their ground and away end is.
-
Why should they be made to do something no other club has been made to do? 20% of PL grounds this season don't give 3k away allocations. Looking down on a club because historically they've been a smaller club isn't a good look.
-
2500 then . I thought we normally had about 3000 at away games bar 4th tier grounds like Bournemouth / Luton.
-
This is the weirdest whinge I've seen since you were getting all annoyed about WFH.

Luton had to do it as rules had changed for promoted teams stadiums, and that was mostly for the press needs rather then the fans.
As for Bournemouth, ownership of the ground was a big issue in delaying the work. And when they started planning an initial new stadium they got relegated.
-

You see what's happened to Luton though and compare it to where Bournemouth are and it makes you think they were probably right.
-

He comes out with it every season when we play them away. It's pretty sad really.
-

Don't get it. My local team is a Serie B/A yoyo club with a very small but picturesque ground and absolutely nobody has a problem with it, it's just considered part of the experience. Sure there are mootings re moving to a bigger ground, like for a lot of clubs, but not from away fans! It's odd.
-
If Bournemouth don't spend millions on their squad they wouldn't be a PL side for long. If they aren't a PL side they don't need a bigger ground. It's very ManU plastic to look down on a club because they have a small ground. It's great that clubs Bournemouth/Luton get into the PL imo, it gives every club in the pyramid hope that one day it could be them. There's way more to football than the 20 clubs with bigger grounds.
-
Have always quite fancied going to a game by boat. If our owners really cared about Villa, they'd build us a decent river, or at least introduce vaporetti on the cut.

Birmingham, famously, even has more canal mileage.

Why must you quote me before I've finished editing? Admittedly, I'm at least partly to blame for pressing send before I'd finished...

The perils of micropublishing.
-
Bournemouth's ground is small but it's in a decent area and modernised. It's obviously hard to get a ticket, but on the advice of someone else on here, I did hospitality there last season and the hosts and the fans were great and Gary Shaw came over for a chat with all the Villa fans that were there there; so it was a good mixed fan experience. I couldn't justify the cost of doing it regularly, but I could recommend it for future reference.
My vote for the worst ground and experience in the Premier League is Selhurst Park. The away section is awful and seems more like a prison and the whole ground looks stuck in the 70s.
-

And we always get walloped.
-
I like Selhurst, inevitable results notwithstanding.
-
Selhurst is fucking abysmal.
-
I love old grounds, despite their limitations they retain a historic charm, echoes of the past abound, odd shaped stands, hemmed in locations, splendid frontages and architectural wonders.
Not Selhurst though, it's an absolute fucking hole.

I also like the Black Country accent, the accordion, Jeremy Corbyn, Micah Richards, most female comedians and dancing so you were always going to disagree with me eventually.

Maybe not.

There's never a tsunami when you need one.

I like all but two of those. Well, I don't dislike dancing, it's just that my eurythmics have been likened to the movements of a constipated duck
(The constipated duck won an out-of-court settlement)
-
I wonder if SJM will start next to Kamara in the deep lying role tomorrow. I'm not convinced that Onana does quite the right thing for Emery in the same role.
-

It's the Arthur Wait. The other 3 stands are OK. I did hear that they are planning on rebuilding it. If you're towards the back it's like looking at the pitch through a letterbox
-
Still struggling to see why we bought Onana, especially for £50m. He has potential and reminds me of prime Pogba at times with his long stride but just doesn’t seem to fit.
Struggle is for me it’s Kamara first and then either Tielemans or him alongside, so Onana is always second choice there, so seems we paid a premium for him and he has ended up with being a squad player
-
He hasn’t fully integrated yet, but he showed on Saturday what he can be. When he came on he, both, did a great job of sweeping in front of the defence, and carried the ball into the final third. None of our other players really do that. Plus he’s a very useful option for set pieces, and scores the odd belter. He can be a big player for us, but it’s just been a bit stop start this year.
-
He's getting better all the time and he's still a babby. No need to worry about him, IMO.
-
For our record signing i think he's been a disappointment. Started the season so well . I can see why some Everton fans were delighted with the business now .
-
Yep if you look at this short-term I can see that. But he’s shown how key he can be. Bit of time and faith.
-
Agree , but top end Prem etc , time and faith are generally in short supply , especially if the end of season targets aren't met. Hopefully he steps up now he has his chance , 3 massive games ahead .
-
Agree , but top end Prem etc , time and faith are generally in short supply
Well, sure. But, on balance, Chelsea probably regret not being a bit more patient with Salah and De Bruyne.

They didn't pay big money for them did they , I take your point though, Onana warrants another season , no choice really given what we paid .
-
I've been there twice. In Sir Graham's promotion season (Redknapp was their manager) and the last time we won with Gestede's header. We might need to change our style with Youri out which might scupper their game plan. 1-2. Ollie and Malen.
-
I think we’ll need 2, possibly 3 goals to win this. We’re going to need to be really at it.
-
we like 3 - 0 's . so 3 - 0 to the villa boys.
JJ
Rogers
Malen

Something we can agree on. Went there last season, soulless experience
-
The have a very quick and mobile midfield which likes to press and counter.
Huge game.
