Are we catching Chelsea or are Everton catching us?
-
Get in!
-
Get in!
-
Yes!
-
To hell with Chelsea
January signings were immense today.
-
Emery changed it - it worked. Get in.
-
Ascensio was brilliant I thought. Special mention to the negative posters who were proved wrong .
-
The only Premier League home win of the weekend... so far.
-
If Forest can get back on track tomorrow, it'll be a decent weekend for us. Things looking a lot better than they did this morning.
-
Phew. Strong second half from us. Wish we'd start matches that way, there's enough on the bench now that we can afford to go high energy the whole game.
-
Get the fuck in. I did not think we had that in us, well done Villa. An absolutely critical win, crucial.
Some of the quality Asensio brings is just brilliant.
Deserved it after the pen robbery.
-
I now have a lucky toothpick. Don't ask.
-
We're not out of it yet. Fucking hell.
-
Really happy with is. 3 points teah.
UTV.
-
Got to stop this habit of letting the opposition get in front before we start playing, but a much better showing in the second half. Sad to say it as he's a great guy and a brilliant club man, but Tyrone Mings is finished at this level.
-
Good comeback. Awful first half , much improved after the break. The subs changed it . A strong bench is so important . Thought Rashford was superb offers that constant threat and pulls defences all over the place .
-
Ascensio was brilliant I thought. Special mention to the negative posters who were proved wrong .
Very glad to be proven wrong. I said we couldn’t perform on Saturday after playing midweek. We have a great mentality of not giving up.
-
It's back on, team.
-
4 points from Liverpool and chelsea is very good. That slice of due good fortune could be how our season changes.
-
Absolutely despise Chelsea and their supporters so I particularly enjoyed that. Not a classic and still miles off where we want to be, but lots of character in this side.
-
Always nice to beat these wankers.
-
We have a team
-
Merge please I don’t want to be Billy no mates.
-
Oo are ya!
-
Good result and we only played half a game.
-
2 teams above us losing today. That’s us back in the hunt.
-
To hell with Chelsea
January signings were immense today.
I know we had a bit fo a blow up earlier but i hope its forgotten now
Up the fucking villa !!!
What a win.
.buzzing!!
-
Huge win.
Was a tactical second half with not many chances but we stuck at it, got a bit of luck with Cole Palmer's right foot just for standing on and then waited for a moment and the Chelsea keeper chucked it in.
This win gets us back into the mix so we'll still be in contention going into April for top 5.
We've got to find a way to get Rashford and Malen in the same 11 from the start imo. I really like Malen's runs around the last defender, lead to the corner we scored from.
Get the feeling we'll see it on Tuesday as Rogers was limping heavily at the end so would give him next week off as he's been overplayed this season.
-
I don't know if we can make the three loan boys perm, but we really, really need to be weighing that up. Two from three would be a result. I think Rashford is probably too much on his wages. Don't know what Asensio is on.
-
Ascensio was brilliant I thought. Special mention to the negative posters who were proved wrong .
Very glad to be proven wrong. I said we couldn’t perform on Saturday after playing midweek. We have a great mentality of not giving up.
Ascensio was having a mediocre game until Rashford came on . Then he was brilliant for half hour . They all stepped up in the second half .
-

30 months in and Emery still has doubters! It's a head scratcher alright
-
That result makes up for the ipswich one
4 points va chelsea and liverpool. Veey happy with that.
Dont care what it costs but we need to sign asensio
-
Y'see, when we go at teams a bit rather than playing fanny walking football in front of them, look what happens...
-
Merge please I don’t want to be Billy no mates.
Done.
-
Maatsen so much better in 2nd half, looked much more comfortable and big well done to Bogarde, though he played really well. I'd rest Watkins and Rogers on Tuesday, both were poor today.
-
I thought Maatsen was disappointing for much of the game, but picked up when he had Rashford in front of him.
-
Brilliant second half. And we’re now at a point where this team knows - whoever we’re playing - that going a goal down doesn’t stop us winning.
We look a really good side, with some really solid options from the bench (all the subs were very good today). If we can keep everyone mostly fit for the run in, we could be looking at a very special end to the season.
I know this much, there’s not a team in the league that will fancy playing us at the minute…
-
The subs were brilliant and turned the game on its head. Special mention for Bogarde coming in on the left.
We were denied a clear as day penalty too when Coachella pulled Bogarde down. Not sure how it wasn't given.
We won and the hope for a CL spot lingers on...
-
A relief at last. Rashford, Asensio and Malen give us new options. I like Bogarde a lot. We can beat anyone with key players back from injury.
-
There’s something very dislikable about Chelsea. I really enjoyed that.
Great cameos from Rashford and Bailey.
Pleased for Asensio.
Hope the players get a rest now.
Looks like we played West Ham and Spurs at the right time.
Wish our players would stop slipping at Villa Park but maybe Unai instructions for a Slick surface?
-
Before you stick the boot in on our defenders you should consider that Mings and Konsa are playing through the pain barrier (like James Chester did). They are walking wounded and deserve unwavering support at this time not petty criticism
-
Massive win to reel in Chelsea. Plus it'll be nice to be able to watch MotD tonight.
-
Pau being back and threading balls through to Asensio, Rashford, and Malen is going to be great.
-
Asensio ran 10.8km that is phenomenal
-
What a day of football! Watch the mighty Yeltz come back to win El Busico, and then the Villa turn it aroumd.
Asensio is brilliant. Drove us forward all game.
-
I fucking love beating scummy chelsea 😂
I billion pounds and still shite
-
Merge please I don’t want to be BronteBilly no mates.
-
Fuckin brilliant is all 😎
-
Deserved flowers for the goal scorer and assister, but those two in centre-mid - warriors today.
-
Wolves may still catch us.
-
Bogarde looks a good player. Can see why Emery hasn't sent him to Hull/Middlesbrough etc
-

Coming along nicely
-

Agreed.
-
Not a wonderful performance but an important three points. Used the subs really well. A bit of class here and there and that was enough for Chelsea, who have all the gear and no idea. We got better defensively too. Cracking three points. Liking these new players!!
-
Aston Villa have now won 18 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season.
That is more than any other team.
Meanwhile, 13 of the 15 points Chelsea have dropped from winning positions this season have come since Boxing Day.
Unsurprisingly, that too is more than any other side.
That stat would be more impressive if we weren't having to constantly come from a losing position because we've conceded an easy goal in the first few minutes.
-
Before you stick the boot in on our defenders you should consider that Mings and Konsa are playing through the pain barrier (like James Chester did). They are walking wounded and deserve unwavering support at this time not petty criticism
Darn straight.
Neither should be playing at the moment if we had better cover.
I'm really starting to like Bogie, mind.
-
Fuck me, if we could keep a clean sheet we'd be challenging for the top 3. Rashford is a player reborn. Asesnsio (wooowoooh) looks a proper player. We have 2/3rds of the outfield sown up now, if we can get tight at the back we will be super difficult to beat. Happy as a pig in shit!
-
https://www.skysports.com/football/aston-villa-vs-chelsea/report/506058
-
Love the way Konsa grabbed the goalie's water bottle and launched it after our winner.
-
Bogarde: here's looking at you, kid (in a footballing sense!)! :)
-
Bogarde: here's looking at you, kid (in a footballing sense!)! :)
Looks like he might become the real deal. YES!!
-
Bogarde is exactly the sort of player you want in the squad if you're competing in 3-4 competitions. Fills in as cover for a few different positions and generally does a job whenever he's asked, nothing fancy and might not ever be a regular starter but he adds a huge amount with his versatility.
He was excellent today after coming on in quite a tricky situation.
-
The other thing I loved about Asensio, his goals were about doing the hard yards and getting into difficult areas. It shows his attitude is spot on.
-
Great result, missed the bulk of the second half but back just in time for the last 10mins. Lovely.
-
Lulz, even better, Durán was sent off in the desert for putting his hands to an opponent's head. #IfCarlsbergDidSaturdays #Carlsberg'sStilllShit
-
Ascensio was brilliant I thought. Special mention to the negative posters who were proved wrong .
If we are good to point out negative things, then I'd like to point out your spelling of Asensio :)
-
I like the aggression Bogarde had - he crunched Neto - shame it was about 45 mins too late.
-
Ponderous start again, if we can cut that out and get at teams from the start, final run in, I can easily see a top 5 finish, we give teams way to much confidence to get stuck into us, in the end brilliant result, Asensio looks the real deal and could have had more, just get the impression Rashford is going to burst onto the scene very soon and destroy the opposition, think we have to shake it up a little, we need to keep starting Rashford let the bloke get stuck in.
In the end superb win plus you also have to say win or lose the games at Villa Park are probably the most exciting football in the Premiership
-
Deserved that. We were a bit undercooked in the first half and were sloppy with our possession. Neto and Fernandez caused a few issues but I thought Palmer was shite. The second half was magnificent, Asensio and Rashford took it to another level. Maatsen had a stinker where just nothing went for him but he stuck at it and had a good last 20. McGinn and Tielemans were immense in the middle. And well done to John for getting 2 cracking yellow card tackles in and not getting sent off.
-
Just watched Sky interview with Assensio. The guy said Rashford is big name in this country to Assensio 😂😂😂 just in case he didn’t know and asked him what it was like to play against a big team 😂😂😂😂
Where do they get these reporters. He went on to interview Unai and asked him if Chelsea had won would the gap have been too big. Unai just shut him up twice!!!! Sky hate anyone beating one of their chosen six
-
Massive result, that puts us right back in the mix.
I was at my son’s game so missed some of it - was Mings injured?
-
The transfer window has looked good business for us, strength in depth and added quality. I thought McGinn was MOTM but the subs made a huge difference.
-

How disgraceful for a reporter. Acting like amateurs as they are then.

Please don't play him at RB ever again. He is far better centrally so this is where we need to give him more chances to develop his career with us.

It really is annoying, its not about sport or football for them its about putting bums on seats, and in there simplistic way Villa don't exists, to the point they see Aston Villa a threat to the status quo of what used to be the Sky 4 now 6, if you want to watch good football you don't watch Chelsea or Spurs, boring, Arsenal, not much to write home about, Man City, straight out the manual, its just done really well, forget Utd, fact is if you want excitement, improvisation, the fecking wild west, brilliant stadium atmosphere, noise, there is only one place to go.
-
Brilliant to win that one tonight, especially after the exertions of going toe to toe with Liverpool midweek.
-
How the hell did Enzo not get a sending off. Constantly tactical fouling after he had been carded
-
https://www.skysports.com/football/aston-villa-vs-chelsea/report/506058
Who was that scruffy dude that scored our goals?

Even at right back he was ok, he was just very defensive and was struggling a little with his positioning, I think he'd be fine there in an emergency.
-
I live beating these bastards. I don’t know a single Chelsea fan who isn’t a racist, Farage loving Trumpanzee.
-
Can’t beat a late late winner.
I must say Tielemans must have iron lungs and bionic limbs to keep putting in those performances 2/3 times a week
-
I live beating these bastards. I don’t know a single Chelsea fan who isn’t a racist, Farage loving Trumpanzee.
Same.
-
Did you see that smirk that Pedro Neto flashed Ramsey when they came together just before HT? I'm not sure if I may have missed it, but I didn't see him smirking at FT.
-
How the hell did Enzo not get a sending off. Constantly tactical fouling after he had been carded
Our number 7 was fortunate too I thought
-
Michael Oliver should never referee a Villa game ever again. Embarrassing officiating.
-

He was almost as bad as the ref in the England-Scotland game. ;)
-
There’s something very dislikable about Chelsea.
Something ? There's many things !
Achieved nothing until a Russian crook arrived.
Some of the wankiest supporters in English football.
A souless shithole of a ground (the old shithole of the 70s as well as the modern shithole)
Ken Bates
Denis Wise
John Terry
The 2000 cup final
Most of the worst aspects of modern football probably originated at Stamford bloody Bridge,,,,inflated ticket prices, half and half scarfs, the bloody big flags that are waved behind the goal.
If I wanted to waste my time thinking more about this bunch of big time media darling London charlies I could think of many many more things about how disagreeable they are. Successful or not I've been hating them since the late 1960s.
-
Bogarde looks a good player. Can see why Emery hasn't sent him to Hull/Middlesbrough etc
My son said to me, he’s the most versatile player we’ve for, so true, something very classy about him.
Rashford was superb today.
Percy posted about our warriors in the middle, so true. Youri didnt have his best game, but my God has he been the glue this season and SJM, wow!
-
That attack just before our second - the attack that led to the corner, where Rashford played through Malen was really good.
-

Agreed, Malen had a strong cameo but needs a goal. He's had a few of those chances with his left foot for us, Wolves comes to mind, but no elevation on the shot. Strong with his back to goal tonight. Bailey was good too.
-
Who would have thought 5 years ago we would see Asensio score 2 goals in a Villa shirt!
-
I like Malen too - he's a great option.
-
Caught the last ten minutes popping into a Butlins sports bar.
Five stars, would recommend.
-
I didn't think we were terrible in the first half. We weren't great for the first 20 minutes but then created several good openings and chances.
Maatsen was all at sea in the first half, but was better once Rashford came on and occupied Gusto which meant we were more on the front foot. That is where our strength lies, certainly not at the back.
Asensio played well although I think his designated position impacted on Rogers.
I felt sorry for Mings although his passing was poor, but well done to Bogarde when he came on.
-

That goal incorrectly given offside against the Tatters would've got him up and running.
Net that, and I reckon he'd be on 2/3 now already.
-
A great week considering we are missing our first choice DM's, Kamara and Onana, and Mings is clearly still struggling after his injury. Rashfords directness and Asensio's quality give us more options up front, and Malen is looking a decent buy, a major upgrade on Philogene. Bogarde did well again. 5th is still on if we can defend with some consistency, Disasi is crucial to us as Mings looks likely to break down in each match unfortunately.
-
Imagine what we would be like with no injuries.
-
Second game in a row, where substitutes have made a huge difference. Lovely to have such a strong bench.
Surely a matter of time before Malan scores.
-
First half we wasn't great but other than their goal, neither were they. Much better second half, Rashford made a huge difference not just with his play but we stretched them a bit. Shout out to Bogarde who did really well again which was just as well because Mings didn't look fit from the off. Fernandez for them was great as well.
This season is not over yet boys and girls.
-

Last 35 mins they all really went into overtime . The subs were huge . Rashford with his pace and quick feet is a level above what we have had, Malen is also fast and looks a great signing already . Ascensio great awareness and skill . Bogarde that tackle on Neto got me up on my feet , superb . Tielemans and McGinn that second half were brilliant . They all wanted it . Was great to see . Possibly the most satisfying win of the season.
-
I live beating these bastards. I don’t know a single Chelsea fan who isn’t a racist, Farage loving Trumpanzee.
Same.
Two of the four I know are black. Two really lovely blokes (one African so I don’t mind who he supports, the other one a Brummie who’s brother plays for Livingston). One of the white ones I’d put money on being dead (crackhead I haven’t seen for years - really funny guy though), and the other white one is always off work with his mental health.
Funnily enough the one who got murdered down the Blues in the seventies was a black geezer as well, a Rasta from Small Heath. The bloke who did it was from Chelmsley. He’s dead now too, I knew his brother.
Some tangential shit there, sorry.
-
Always got told that Chelsea had a big following in Worcester. No idea why but would love to know if that’s true?
-
Bogarde looks a good player. Can see why Emery hasn't sent him to Hull/Middlesbrough etc
No one should be sent to those places least of all our Dirk.
-
I know 3 Chelsea supporters, and other than that, they're ok people. I've come across some en masse and loathed them.
-

I remember when it was reported that we were top of the shirt sales charts in Worcester.
You’ll never sing that etc.

It never was - we're fighting on three fronts!
-
Does anyone know what happened in L1 after about 20 minutes? Police were dragging a guy away in a headlock as far as I could see from above in K2 but not sure what caused it. I presume there were some Chelsea fans in there.
-

Someone on the match thread mentioned a fight breaking out and that it was Chelsea fans in the home end.
-
Always got told that Chelsea had a big following in Worcester. No idea why but would love to know if that’s true?
There does seem to be a lot of Chelsea fans in Worcester, same for Spurs as well, for some ungodly reason, no idea why.
Perhaps it’s the early 70s team that had a bit of success.
-
Special mention to Cashy who used his left foot to set-up Rashford for the equaliser. It's not just for standing on, he used it to assist Watkins' equaliser at Arsenal too.
-

Yep it was an excellent cross.
-
Had to laugh how long it took to confirm Rashford was 2 yards onside for the goal, after they disallowed the goal against Liverpool, which was incredibly tight, in about 5 secs before they put the replay up..
-
Cash often puts in decent inswinging crosses with his left, we've scored from a few of them over the last couple of years.

That’s a very fair comment as we only have and know our own experiences.
I’m unlucky in the people I know, so using that as a dataset I’m generalising to a huge extent!
Which I like in H&V.
We can all be pulled up on things, listen, understand, accept, and become better.

The one 40 something who works for me is a lovely chap. As a Chelsea fan he hasn't got a clue about football as i keep saying

Yep no idea how they can look at that and go 50/50.
-
Never met a Chelsea fan here. Don't think they exist in Ireland.
-
Defo pen although to be fair during the match I wasn't totally convinced.
If it is given it is a pen, if it isn't given then it is not likely to be
-
I know a load of chelsea fans. None of them racist, or farage supporters. Just normal people like us.
But ive sat with chelsea fans as been with a matw as they are season ticket holders and they do have a large hooligan section who are openly racist
-
The transfer window has looked good business for us, strength in depth and added quality. I thought McGinn was MOTM but the subs made a huge difference.
He was by a country mile.
-
Never met a Chelsea fan here. Don't think they exist in Ireland.
Understandable - St Pat did drive the snakes out, to be fair.
Any legacy footballers connected? Townsend who couldn't be more English in some respects.
Other than that I can only think of Duff and even he was more Blackburn back then.

Terry Phelan and Big Cas too. Chelsea and Rangers 'Blues brothers' innit.

The world greatest living Irishman was Chelsea fan as a kid. He saw the light when Graham Taylor signed him and turned him into God though.

You know, I don't think I could have told you who Duff played for if you'd asked me. Just a total blank on him in anything other than an Ireland jersey. Weird.
Anyway, no, I don't think there's any big Irish connection there. Tony Cascarino played for them back in the early 90s.
-
My daughter said straight away penalty in real time when Dirk got assaulted to the ground.
Yet VAR said no.
Bonkers.
If we can get Asensio and Rogers on the same wavelength then we score through the middle and stop relying on crosses. Which are always a low percentage to score.
-
A deserved win in my book. We do really have an array of attacking options now, which is great to see. The defence remains panic inducing.
-
Right back in the mix now. Just need to stay there through March and we’ll have a chance.
-

A season or two ago it would probably have been given on balance of probabilities. However, of course, these days only clear and obvious errors are reversed. It has to be beyond reasonable doubt
-
It should have been a penalty. Clearly and obviously.

Unless its man united, where where every effort is made to undermine a legitimate decision against them

But just noticed I haven’t seen Risso, Ads or Bad English lately.
Where are they?

It wasn’t my intention to pull you up at all. I’m pretty sure you’re (generally) right. From what I’ve heard from people who know that Andy Frain, he’s a proper wrong un, and I don’t mean just for the hooligan stuff, although it is related to that.

I love beating these wankers. My ex in-laws were Chelsea fans, in fact my ex bro in-law was friends with Matthew Harding, but they developed such an arrogance about them that every time they lose, and especially when it's us that wins, I feel all warm inside...
-
Felt more of a pen than our Ashley's (I say our Ashley) one chalked off at Everton earlier.
-
Michael Oliver should never referee a Villa game ever again. Embarrassing officiating.
It’s not just him, there is a long list.
-
Cash often puts in decent inswinging crosses with his left, we've scored from a few of them over the last couple of years.
Yes, he puts in his best best crosses when he cuts back onto his left foot.
A great skill to have, but you can forget about him going past a left back and crossing it with his right with much success.
-
Despite the usual start I thought we really took control in the second half. It felt like the game was on the edge of a knife at one point but I felt we were going to get over the line on this one and we did, so credit to everyone here. Emery took the game away from Chelsea with his changes

Every team's fans think this of one ref or another (or all of them).

There is,but Oliver struts around making shit decisions.
It’s hard to understand how shit the refs are.

Clear foul on the bogeyman
Yep no idea how they can look at that and go 50/50.
We've played two of the so-called 'Big Six' this week and on both occasions have had officials who have given them favourable decisions throughout the game.
-
Always got told that Chelsea had a big following in Worcester. No idea why but would love to know if that’s true?
As a Worcester resident, I can sadly confirm that is true. Loads of Liverpool as well. No idea why though and I’ve got no intention of asking any of them! Fairweather fans the lot of them.
Absolutely loads of Villa though - seeing the shirt everywhere these days.

Yeah to be honest that’s all very Arsenal.

When did they change the rules? Bogarde gets pulled back anywhere else on the pitch and it's a free kick. Apparently not in the area. Blatant fouls get overlooked time and time again if they're in the area.
-
The hairy muppet fella should have been booked for the ‘challenge’ that left Cash in a groggy pile on the floor. Made no attempt to win the ball and backed into Cash while he was in the air. Pretty much textbook dangerous play.
-

The problem is that they have allowed pushing and pulling now as “ part of the game”
So they have no way of distinguishing foul from fair play.
There is no consistency at all.

Just catching up on the Man U fans thoughts after the day's matches. This was in a thread about our second goal, primarily focused on Rashford.
No disrespect but the fact we have "allowed" Aston Villa to surpass us squad wise is a joke. More so considering they only got promoted back to the PL a few seasons ago is a joke and shows how far we have fallen.
Villa have more ambition and higher standards than we do.
Absolute insanity the level of quality depth they have in attack while clubs like us and Arsenal just sat on our asses in January.

Otherwise known as 'doing a Harry Kane'. He got away with it for years and I'm surprised he didn't seriously injure someone. Kane normally got given the free kick!
-
Good to see other sides are fearing us and showing us a level of respect
But we need ti start doing it away from home now as our away forms not great
-
Something close to positive.
But mostly something negative.
-
Not surprised given the schedule but Tielemans said on MotD when asked about what the new players that they haven't really been training much. Remarkable to think the new guys are clicking so well already having spent very little time on the training pitch. Hopefully we have a busy schedule for a while longer, but it's mad to think they can get even better as time goes on.

I mentioned it on another thread but I've been having a peep at them every now and then since we signed Rashford and a surprising amount of them are very aware of the reality of the situation at their club.

Seeing them relegated again would be truly heartwarming stuff.
Be nice if it was Rashford backheeling them into the Second Division Dennis Law-style. But will settle for McGinniesta doing it.
Wonder if Fergiescum would still watch all their games and hang around like a bad smell.
-
We were watching their game yesterday and the camera seemed to pan onto Fergie in the stand every five minutes. It was ridiculous.

It’s great he’s still hanging around, must be an unsettling presence for whichever joker currently manages them.
-
Part of him is probably getting pleasure from it. Strengthens what he did, no titles for yonks before him, looks like it will be yonks before they win one after him.
-
Great second half and good win.
-
Only got around to watching it this morning. My assessment of it was that I'm not sure we were as bad as made out here in the first half nor as good in the second half as reports suggest. Sure the Rashford sub kept their RB a lot more honest but it wasn't as if either goal was coming off sustained pressure. Earlier in the season Palmer buries both his chances. I thought our midfield two were outstanding and the result is a critical one for us in terms of the season. Maybe we had a late winner coming for us after Ipswich and Liverpool, granted the keeper threw the winner in. Our defence once again verged on the shambolic, we will need to score 2 or 3 to win PL games. Who plays v Palace even?
Martinez 8 - no remarkable saves but just thought he was very solid in his positioning and distribution throughout behind a mess of a defence. Did well to stop Palmer up too.
Cash 5 - great ball in for the first goal but had a poor first half, very fortunate Fernandez found top of net. No cohesion with Rogers. Never recovered from that knock before half time and should have been hooked sooner.
Konsa 5 - appalling for their goal but made up for it somewhat by blocking that Palmer shot. Poor throughout really in a very difficult season for him.
Mings 4 - Really poor again and really begs the question why he returned after half time when clearly struggling. Very fortunate after half time with that crazy run into midfield. Sad to watch.
Maatsen 5 - Roasted in first half as Chelsea overloaded him constantly, torched for their goal. Improved in second half but from a low base
Tielemans 8 - took a while to get going but I thought he was incredibly brave with his playmaking and rarely caught out either.
McGinn 9 - leader. Kicked everything that moved and maybe fortunate to remain on field. Drove us back into the game with the force of his personality.
Rogers 5 - anonymous for large spells in that role again. One time he got turned in the middle he got hacked down and limped off soon after.
Ramsey 4 - he's a bit unfortunate as bringing on Rashford on left will be our go to change. Rogers and Asensio could have been hooked either but Ramsey was very quiet.
Asensio 7 - goals win games, very quiet up to his first goal but transformed afterwards. Cracking ball in that Rashford nearly got on end of.
Watkins 5 - nothing wrong with movement and hold up play in first half. But had to get a better contact on that cross in first half and failing to put Ramsey in on that break was poor. Tired badly after half time.
Rashford gets the headlines and did well to stab that ball back to Asensio, decision making a bit suspect I thought but did put Malen through with a nice pass. Bogarde did ok but lost his bearings for the huge Palmer miss, Garcia looks a real find. Lively cameos from Bailey and Malen, though Malen needs a goal. Emery a bit fortunate I thought re Mings particularly and Cash but history written by winners etc
-
decided to watch the game again without the anxiety a few things stood out, Ascensio has a big engine he was still going strong at the end, Rashford is just the direct player we need, not everything is going to come off but he will score plenty, Ollie's first touch is rubbish, probably stopped him from getting a couple. Finally Mings, a great warrior who gives his all but he looked slow and ponderous even before he was clttered. Oh I forgot, the idiots did not even get the ref to go to the screen to see what was a definate penalty.
-
Has no-one mentioned the most important thing of all?
We're on 42 points now.
We're staying up!
-
Not a great 1st half, but very much improved 2nd half, and a deserved win in the end. I thought Rashford had his best game so far for us and is only gonna get better.
The first half of the season, we could only rely on Watkins, Rogers and Duran for the goals, with JJ being unavailable, how things have changed, now we can rely Watkins, Morgan, Ramsey, Rashford, Asensio, Malen and even Tielemans is getting on the score sheet.
-
I think one of the most impressive things was how we got stronger as the game went on given we had 3 days to recover and they had 8.
-
A much needed tonic - at last, a few things went our way.
Agree with those who had McGinn down as MoM - he knitted everything together for us. And if I'm honest, it had been a while.
Tyrone is a warrior, but he is really struggling - you do wonder how much more he has to give. Hope it's nothing too serious. I would say, Torres can't come back soon enough, but...
Like others, I was bowled over by Bogarde (and have been since I saw him in the Walsall pre-season friendly, playing a similar position on the right). Given his age and experience, I don't think we can be expecting performances like that week in, week out (especially as he doesn't really have the physique), but I was impressed above all by his composure on the ball under pressure, his two footedness, his stewardship of the ball (he must have had a very high successful pass rate - stattos?), and even his pace, which I hadn't previously noted.
You can also tell he's having a great time - just look at him when we score.
Ollie managed to get a few good attempts off (the one off his left foot would have been a screamer 6 inches the other side of the post), but was unusually scruffy in possession I felt, and caused us to miss a few decent opportunities.
Rashford gave us more penetration, and that made a difference. You can't argue with two goals, though I wasn't quite as impressed with Asensio as others - he flitted in and out a bit for me.
Maatsen has a real issue keeping crosses out, with pacy attackers dropping a shoulder and getting past him far too easily. It's annoying because (i) he's quick himself, and (ii) it looks like a positional thing that should really be coached out of him. Digne, though slower, is a much smarter defender. That being said, I think the full 90 minutes will do his confidence some good.
UTV!

That's some amazing OT shit, Percy. Thanks for sharing. Word.

We have an African Chelsea fan at our place, I think he comes from over your way as well so might be the same fella. I've never asked him why but I'm guessing it is down to them having Drogba (and also quite a few Africans) back in his formative years. The only other one I knew off was Ukrainian and was school mates with Shevchenko back in the day.

Again, I largely agree with your comments, particularly the first sentence there.
Harsh score given to Ramsey, particularly when you've given Maatsen a higher one!

He could sign for us permanently, declare his love for us with a Villa tattoo but he still would have a big nose.
What he does have that I never really acknowledged previously is an incredibly gifted football ability.
Now that I have blocked out the fact he is from "them" I see what a tremendous player he is and how lucky we are that SUE saw the opportunity to show him how a proper coach and club can be.
Thank god the media are spotting it as well.
-
It was wonderful to acoring the winning goal late on for once recently not concede late
Malen, rash and asensio for philogene duran and buendia seems like absolute master stroke signings
-
Just watched motd. I'm baffled as to why we didn't get a penalty when Sideshow Bob pulled Bogarde back denying him a certain goal. Wtf is var even there for if they don't think that's a penalty? Then I watched Everton v Man U and the var eejits overturned a penalty decision for a clear pull on Ashley Youngs shirt. Young did dive theatrically but when they sent the ref to the screen they decided not to show the angle that clearly shows the pull on his shirt. I fucking despise VAR.
-
One thing I noticed yesterday was Rogers body language…i have a feeling he thinks he’s having his nose pushed out by the new boys…maybe it will give him the kick up the arse that Bailey seems to have had…

He's being moved out of his best position so it's to be expected. He must be suffering from fatigue too to be fair. Would leave him on bench v Palace.

I’ve been saying for weeks it not corruption and its incompetence, however after the Everton and our penalty incidents, it’s hard to say it isn’t some kind of biased or corrupt view.

I would imagine if Rogers was having his nose pushed out, he would have started on the bench yesterday and had a well earned rest.
Emery loves and rates him and he is an essential part of the team.
He only came off yesterday because that dirty bastard cynically clattered him and he was clearly struggling afterwards.
I saw no issues with his body language, just maybe someone who needs a weeks rest.

Yeah I can't stand the conspiracy theorist types you get all over the Internet but the clowns at var are really making me think something is not right.

This.
He's 21 years old and in his "difficult 2nd season". 6 goals and 4 assists in the league. Doing ok though, huh?
-
He also seemed really excited by the new signings after the Spurs game, and the idea of having new players of that calibre to learn from. Plus they're only on loan, for now. If his nose was out of joint two weeks later, I'd be worried about his mentality and commitment.
-
I’ll shut up….not the best terminology…🤣…I just meant he should rise to the challenge. I get all the rest of it young/ tired etc but most of them will be. It may just be his posture but I thought he looked a bit pissed off yesterday and deffo had words with Ollie when he shot ( best option imo) rather tah. Pass to him in the first half…
-
Matt Donoghue was on VAR at Everton yesterday the same clown that disallowed our goal against wolves. He also refereed a match in the championship recently and he gave a Man United level of incompetent performance. He’s utterly shit or corrupt or both. Oh and he’s from ‘Greater Manchester.’

We did strengthen in attack despite losing one of the most promising strikers about. We still lack fit bodies in midfield and whatever defensive combo seems to have frailties although Garcia in and Cash regaining fitness looks a big plus.
-
Was it "Enzo" who injured Rogers? God, I despise the little fvcker. Good player but he's a snide.

Don Revie affect. When he popped his clogs Leeds got promoted and won the league.

I thought that was Nkunku. If it had been Fernandez he'd have had a 2nd yellow.

It looked far too easy from my position in the Holte, but having watched the highlights, his defending was so passive for that first goal.

I'm not sure about him playing on the right to be honest. Asensio is playing the role he was playing before which has meant him moving out there and he doesn't look comfortable.

Ours was a penalty but wasnt given so not likely to be changed even though the Hair Bear Bunch was blatantly fouling.
Young's was definite penalty so I have no idea why it was overturned.

Something to do with the angle of his body. Always looks like he’s caught on his heels, too (or is he second guessing the winger?).

I do. It's Man United. And I sent reason why the referee wasn't sent to screen to have a look. It was as blatant a penalty as you're ever going see. If Sideshow Bob doesn't pull Bogarde back he scores.

I think you also have to give Neto some credit, he’s very quick over five yards, and often bursts past a full back to get a cross in.
That said, maatsen is clearly not yet at Digne’s level when it comes to defending 1v1. Hopefully that will improve.
-
It wasn’t just one pull it was assault and battery , absolute shocker of a decision.

He obviously needs to improve there, but to be fair Neto is very good at beating the defender.

Yeah, Neto's a proper handful. He won't be facing him every week.

Personally, I think Rogers was frustrated with Michael Oliver. He was fouled a dozen times and Oliver gave him nothing. Not to mention, I can remember at least two instances where the linesman completely bottled it and gave a throw and a six to Chelsea. The refs were so poor.
-

Nuts, he kept trying and occupied a lot of attention from Chelsea which enabled Asensio space which he exploited.
It wasn’t a barnstorming performance and he was fantastic against Liverpool.
-
Rogers' run took Gusto behind Chelsea's defensive line for the first goal. That meant Rashford was onside.
-
Yeah, Neto's a proper handful. He won't be facing him every week.
He wasn't facing him last week.
-
I’d forgotten Chelsea even had Neto until yesterday - very good player, you can see why he was out of Wolves at the first possible opportunity.
-
Whilst Rashford was excellent yesterday what changed the game for me was bringing Bailey and Malan on because we had someone to hold the ball up and sheer pace both sides of the pitch. Chelsea couldn't cope with both Bailey AND Rashford yesterday. Really good use of the subs by Unai. If Bailey was better at picking people out, the game would have been won well before the 89th minute.
-

8 on the Fernandes scale.
-

Neto is an excellent player and always plays very well against us.
-
Not a lot has been made of our penalty claims., unless i missed it
Also Alan Smith , almost feeling sorry for Chelsea not having a recognised striker and somewhere they need to recruit. my god how many players do they fucking have !
-
Never met a Chelsea fan here. Don't think they exist in Ireland.
Same here, I've met more SHA fans in Ireland. The only Chelsea fans I know are an East Londoner (Greek descent), 5 or 6 black Zimbabweans that I worked with, and a Thai girl I know.
*All the Zimbabweans I know are Chelsea fans, whereas Kenyans are usually Yanited fans with a few Arsenal thrown in.
-
If Chelsea slide some further down the table this season it will be interesting to see if they change manager and start a rebuild with players in and out.

Chelsea couldn't cope with both Bailey AND Rashford yesterday. Really good use of the subs by Unai. If Bailey was better at picking people out, the game would have been won well before the 89th minute.
Or more direct. I know we’ve been banging on about it for months, but if he could just find that extra bit of confidence…
Still, it was much improved, with shades of last year’s sub appearances that presaged his red hot form.

If Chelsea slide some further down the table this season it will be interesting to see if they change manager and start a rebuild with players in and out.
Luckily their next two are Southampton and then Leicester at home. There is no way they are not battering them. Both of those sides are hopeless

Never met a Chelsea fan here. Don't think they exist in Ireland.
*All the Zimbabweans I know are Chelsea fans, whereas Kenyans are usually Yanited fans with a few Arsenal thrown in.
Glory hunters, Coventry are a distant memory now then?!

Aye, Maatsen needs some serious 1-1 coaching on stopping crosses coming in.
It looked far too easy from my position in the Holte, but having watched the highlights, his defending was so passive for that first goal.
I think he was too square to the winger for Ipswich’s goal last week and Chelsea’s yesterday and didn’t do enough to stop the option of the cross. Digne is a much better defender and I reckon he’ll start on Tuesday. I noticed Collymore on Twitter saying he thought he was 10-20m too advanced in moments when we weren’t in secure possession leaving lots of room to run into.
Maatsen did well however to keep going and had a good second half going forward - helped by Rashford driving their right back towards his own goal.

Same here, I've met more SHA fans in Ireland. The only Chelsea fans I know are an East Londoner (Greek descent), 5 or 6 black Zimbabweans that I worked with, and a Thai girl I know.

The black African Chelsea mate I was on about is Zimbabwean.
Great bloke. I got £300 for recruiting him for our work.

You'd think international diamond smuggling was better paid.

Haha! He has to pretend to be a pallet repairer though.

I’d forgotten Chelsea even had Neto until yesterday - very good player, you can see why he was out of Wolves at the first possible opportunity.
Neto is an excellent player and always plays very well against us.
One to look out for in future 'picking up for a song and making the selling team look like mugs' deals.
-
Neto probably pushed McGinn for motm, he destroyed us in the first half. But he's one of them with all the ability in the world but I'm not sure he will ever deliver consistent performances. Tends to get the odd niggle that sets him back.
Chelsea are flaky really. Their centre backs are soft, keeper(s) are liabilities and the likes of Reece James has regressed hugely. I don't see them going on a big winning run to get a top 4 spot. The two goals they conceded were as bad as anything we have let in all season.
-
Did anyone notice Konsa celebrating the second goal. First camera angle and he's hopping around as his boot has fallen off.
Second camera angle and he launches his boot into the air.
-
Yep. I wonder where it landed.
-
Pitchside. Unfortunately they don't show McGinn playing with the mascots, but at the end it is interesting that Onana was in the tunnel embracing each player when they came off.
