Haha, I used to live near Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans all used to sound like racist versions of Henry's Cat, if you remember that cartoon.

Unfortunately the results today have fallen for both teams, not just one. So let's see who will take advantage.

So we should just throw Cash into the CL game and expect him to play the full 90 without having played a full game for weeks before? That sounds sensible.

This made me laugh from Andy Reid at the start of the match.

Quote
Ezri Konsa is a good player and it is a boost for Villa to have him back. He has god pace and power and marshals the Villa back line really well. Himself and Tyrone Mings will have their hands full with the quality players in the Chelsea front line.

This walking football to conserve energy ... The way it's going we are going to smash those pre-season friendlies in the summer, when we finally turn on the afterburners.

Also, remember the times when Ruud Gullit played for Chelsea and we were too in awe to even go near him? The past few times we've played Chelsea it's like they've had 10 Ruud Gullits in their outfield.

In the first minute, we pressed them high up the field with three players, and it took them one very simple ball to get out into a gaping hole in the middle of the pitch and get us panicking.

I didn't think that boded very well.

This is a bit better, mind.

We have seen this opening minutes at Villa park where we get run over and let in a goal early too often this season, something surely can be done about it.

I think the answer is just start the game better. We have a habit of starting games very poorly like today. Why do we have to go a goal behind we start playing ?

In games like this you simply can't waste the amount of counters we do.

One that sticks out to me is when Ollie was on the ball and we had Ramsey completely unmarked to his left. Crowd were shouting for him to pass, he notices him but instead just hangs onto the ball and loses it.

Also disappointed when Asensio was through centrally and he took too long to pass when he had runners either side.

We're just making this season awfully hard work continually conceding goals first. Probably the best we can do is another huff and puff draw.
Title: Re: Aston Villa vs Chelsea Match Thread

Lots of surprise results today, we simply have to make that count if we have any ambitions of top 5.  This isn't good enough.  Hoping for Rashford at half time but that will completely open up the left hand side, especially the way Maatsen is playing, unless he brings on Digne too.

Very poor (again).

Maatsen and Konsa awful defending for their goal. YT way off. Digne would be the second name on the team sheet for me and I would have started Garcia too.

We aren't even bothering to press them. It's not that Chelsea have been brilliant, far from it. Show us something different in the second half Villa.

...and special mention for the twat of a referee - absolutely useless.

Any visiting manager should say ‘go at them from the start, they play warm-up football until they go behind’.

Yeah, and they also will have worked if you press our players we always revert to the safe pass, we don't cut through the press. Cover our safe pass lanes and we simply give the ball away.

Maatasan looks way out his depth.
The psg guy looks like countinho - just not able to influence the game plus seems to damage Roger’s game.

Think Ramsay has looked the brightness but he’s coming off

We are being caught by the likes of Spurs and Everton. There is a very real chance we will finish bottom half of the league at this rate.

There’s also a very real chance we find ourselves in the last 8 of the FA Cup and CL.
