Bench a bit threadbare. Need a couple in this week.

Senior players missing: (is the new RB a senior player?) Mings, Torres, Onana, Barkley, Malen

Good to see Jed Steer in the pre-match build-up on AVTV's live coverage.

In the summer there was talk on strengthing the depth of the squad - not convinced that was actually true.  Win this game and results go are way and its worth 11m and we have 2 keepers and 2 kids on the bench.  And a youth dcm playing at CB

You have to have 2 keepers on the bench in UEFA games.

Just got a feeling we will be on it tonight.  Great opportunity for Bogarde.

Listening to WM on the way in and could clearly hear the IRA chants in the background.  Should be fun!

Yes but up to 6 senior players are unavailable tonight. 22 senior pros is as good as you'll get.

Really - I never knew that.  Why that?  Can you sub both on at the same time?

Remember  when they were trying to tell us that we have improved on the squad depth?  All nonsense. We look thinner than last season.

Yet we are loaning more players  out and have had no one else come in yet

Anyway enjoy the game  everyone! Lets do this !!

So I really don't mind this Champions League format, it's probably better than the group stage, but it does have the disadvantage of being impossibly complicated to keep track of what's going on.

Being completely honest, I'd hoped we'd still be in contention to qualify for the playoffs at this point, or at least have some say in knocking someone else out. I genuinely never dreamed that we'd be paying attention to the other games because we're looking at a top 8 finish. In short, I love this format.

Defence is a mess though so they are also accountable

If you're 2-0 up at home and allow the opposition to equalise, it's unlikely that your striker is your biggest problem.

Big mistake was moving Bogarde to RB, rather than bringing on a RB (Nedeljkovic). Kamara is fine at CB, but losing Cash meant a loss of width which Bogarde can't add.

We have been doing this all season, missing easy chances and giving goals away.
Then you have Emery making strange decisions.

On the plus side they are crap, we scored twice, hit the post and had one cleared off the line. If we fecking learn to defend we win this.

We haven’t learnt to defend in x number of games this season - I doubt we’ll crack it in the next 45 either.

We’re mentally very very weak. And I have no idea why!

Big mistake was moving Bogarde to RB, rather than bringing on a RB (Nedeljkovic). Kamara is fine at CB, but losing Cash meant a loss of width which Bogarde can't add.
Bailey has been inept, which again stresses the weakness we now have on the right side.
Emery error, in my view.

Kamara has been very good at CB and Bogarde was doing fine in midfield. One sub has caused us two separate problems.

Agreed, Emery has had a nightmare with his subs of late.

Before they scored three of our regular back four passed the ball to their forwards under no pressure, a better team punishes those.

Digne struggling for pace against their wide man. Tielemans a liability in a midfield two.

Yep all on watkins for me. Simple chance and again misses and costs us.

We just conceded two goals in two minutes. That isn't Watkins' fault.

3  0 and its over

Exactly.  You cant give watkins  a pass. At 3 -0 celtic are done. That was a simple chance.

If we're 3 nil up it doesn't mean that our defence wouldn't have conceded the two that we did. So I don't think it would've been over. Ok so it would be 3 2 at half time but I wouldn't trust us not to concede again. So it wouldn't have been game over.

Aston Villa have dropped to eighth, and have one of the winners of Sporting or Club Brugge vs Dortmund or Atalanta awaiting them in the last 16.

Villa's fate is out of their hands, though. Another Atalanta goal at Barcelona would drop them in to the play-offs.

Beg to differ. I have friends on both sides of that divide. To describe someone with an Israeli flag as a 'wanker' with no context is just straight up anti-semetic. During the week we remember the holocaust as well. Disgusting.

It is possible to criticise Israel, to not like Israel, to think Israel has just spent the past 15 months engaged in ethnic cleansing and not be antisemitic. Calling another poster racist based on that is flimsy at best.
