Close to signing according to Fab. Personal terms agreed. Welcome.
-
This is fine as it wasn’t Toronto “the signing killer” starting the thread.
-
Too early!!!
-
CDs gonna be after your blood Kippa😂

Hey I quoted two sources. Kippax is only referencing the tap in merchant. He's a witch. Burn him.
-
Shouldn't the thread title be 'Disasi Waiting to Happen'?
-
If this doesn't happen, it'll be Axel FFS
-
I used to like KippaxVilla2.
-
I still like you.
-
Shouldn't the thread title be 'Disasi Waiting to Happen'?
Oi, that was my shite joke.
-
Oh, I can't stay mad at you. 🥺
-
Is he as close to signing as bade? Excellent. Well played.
-
What's the cost? Can't see him being any less then 30mil.
-
Oh, I can't stay mad at you. 🥺

Axel Wilson Arthur Disasi Mhakinis Belho
He's played half his games at RCB and half at RB this season for Chelsea so he's flexible and experienced at 26.
-
The profile in terms of his attributes is exactly what we need. Hasn’t worked at Chelsea but it’s a shambles there. If he joins could be a good signing.
-
Rumoured to be a loan? Low-ish risk in an area we need bodies in, and quickly.
-

Loan to the end of the season with no option / obligation to buy him appears to be the story.
-
He's always looked at bit shit on the odd occasion I've actually seen Chelsea.
Edit. Actually I may be judging him on the Duran v Bayern style own goal he scored last season.

The last Chelsea defender we signed hasn't exactly wowed anyone as yet ...
-
I think the difference between Carlos and Disasi is negligible
just my honest opinion before I get accused of being to negative
-
and probably £50k per week and £10m PSR credit...
-
If he makes as much of an impact as Maatsen it'll be pretty underwhelming to say the least. Why are Chelsea happy to sell him, and sell him to us, one of their main challengers for CL qualification?
-
They have about 5 central defenders and have just brought one back from Palace. I hope we aren't paying them a lot in loan fee and wages.
-
If he makes as much of an impact as Maatsen it'll be pretty underwhelming to say the least. Why are Chelsea happy to sell him, and sell him to us, one of their main challengers for CL qualification?
Because they've got 450 first team players.
-

They see a chance of selling one of their many players and weakening one of their rivals at the same time
Win - Win according some random guy on X
-
And when a team has so many first team players some or most of those only get a few minutes of playing time with very few starts. It's hardly a surprise that when they do play they don't look their best.
-

Yes but there is a different in the situation. Releasing Carlos was right as we were half way to getting Bade. Now with Mings situation we are in dire straits. Money for nothing and free kicks….🙂

Haha, indeed, but it'd be weird to sell one or the good ones to an obvious rival wouldn't it? I'm probably being overly negative, but buying another player from their fringes makes me nervous.
-
Romano
The negotiation between Aston Villa and Chelsea for Axel Disasi is for loan move (with loan fee) plus salary coverage.
Disasi said yes to Aston Villa and he’s not considering other options despite Italian and PL clubs linked.
He wants Villa, as exclusively revealed. 🤝🏻

But they have so many players they cant all play and thrive it is a ridiculous situation

Good lad, he might not be any good but at least he's got his head screwed on.

According to Talkshite, the other interested club were Wolves.

Positives!! I like it !!

Bit of googling reveal he cost Chelsea £38m. Quite stunning amounts of money spent there.

Ill wait for him to play for us before establishing if he is any good or not. I think he might be decent
Low risk deal for us so im happy as w ecab get a proper cb in summer 😄

I bet that was a tough decision.

Quite. Especially if he likes Hi-tec footwear and acid-washed double denim outfits and unintelligible accents.

I think this would be a good signing , let's hope we get it over the line in time for Sunday.

You've followed Disasi as closely, have ya?
Is he better than the other Axel, Tuanzebe/Foley?
-
I now have the Harold Faltemeyer tune in my head
-
Great production work on Behaviour - Pet Shop Boy's best album.

Not seen a great deal of him but we need a centre back and he might need a new challenge. It's fine by me.
-

Indeed.
If we were signing him direct from Monaco plenty would be excited by this deal.
Sounds like Chelsea have used him in the wrong position and his game has suffered as a result.
-
I wonder when he decided he only wants Villa? Before or after the injury/departure list basically guarantees him a starting place.
-
According to Talkshite, the other interested club were Wolves.
Yeah, I bet Championship football was highly attractive!
-
So there's a Disasi thread now but what about Juan is that Foythcoming ?
-
I wonder when he decided he only wants Villa? Before or after the injury/departure list basically guarantees him a starting place.
After he’d asked Madueke his opinion of Wolverhampton.
-
Comment from my Chelsea ST mate: "Thing about Disasi is......Maresca kept playing him at right back where he is useless. Can't get forward, not quick so if the ball was played in behind him, struggled to get back.......after his slow and ponderous turn. As a centre back, quite decent. But we kept on playing him at rb despite the empirical evidence of him being crap there."
-

Didn't Abraham turn them down when he was on loan to us in the Championship and they were a league above us?

Hmm... heard that before somewhere.
-
From everything I've read it seems he'll be a good acquisition, a level up from Carlos. Let's give the guy a chance.
-
He's a big lad and seems quite quick with a good range of passing
-
So there's a Disasi thread now but what about Juan is that Foythcoming ?
There is more chance of Juan les Pins turning up in Aston park.
-

Wow, that was quick!
-

He did indeed. It seemed like everything was unravelling at that time so was a welcome bit of news.
-
As I recall, it was up to him and he turned down the Premier League as he felt he had unfinished business with us. Good lad, our Tammy.
-
He's played in a World Cup Final (albeit only for 1 minute), so he must be good - right...?
-
Good player, good news.
Was very highly rated at Monaco, before hitting the buffers at the squad players’ graveyard that is Chelsea FC.
-
Played five times for France so he's got to be decent.
They've got Upemacano, Kounde, Saliba, Konate, Bade and Fofana so lots of strength in depth there.
-

Empirical evidence, not sure the forum needs this again 😜
-

Concerned that this only makes him five times more decent than Aly Cissokho.
-

Yes that makes him better than John Terry who’s never played in a WCF. You can’t argue against empirical evidence.

He's empirically a lot better than that twat.

Yes but probably despises Dibu.

Most of us on here are at least 3-4 times more decent than Aly Cissokho.

Has he signed?
-
Has he signed?
No. The thread was started way too early. Who the hell does that after the mess with Bade? Amateurs
-
Can we stop this please, he is not our player until he has signed on the dotted line. Talk about getting ahead of ourselves.
-
I guess one things for sure, we don’t learn from our mistakes in starting signing threads too early. Do people get a kick out of starting thread? I just don’t see the upside.
Also it was mentioned to me on the Bade thread that any of these pre signing threads always had “yet to be signed” or similar in the title.
Again that’s bollocks. Again.
-
Agreed Lovejoy. Can we stop getting trigger happy on these until there is credible confirmation it's done.
-
That Carlton Palmer thread was the worst. Not sure what TV was thinking.

-
Yes I get a kick out of it. I live for moments like this.
-
What are the mistakes though? Having 1 thread to talk about a player where there is a lot to talk about seems sensible and I don't recall us starting any threads about players where there isn't a lot of noise from decent sources. Just because a few people get superstitious over silly things isn't a good reason to make it more difficult to get an update on what's happening with a potential signing.

It's a quiet window when 90% of transfer discussion is about how best to conduct transfer discussion.

It looks like we'll have at least 3 players in this window, that's anything but a quiet window for us.
Christ, think of the days of trying to get Grant Holt over the line.

If anyone's curious, the Grant Holt thread was started as the result of a random "Lambert plans raid on former club" piece in The Mirror.

Getting him out of Greggs was difficult enough.
-
Ahem. 'Greg(g)s'.

Ahem. 'Greg(g)s'.
Erm...'Greg(g)es'?

I don't mind having threads on players where there is a lot of speculation, ahead of signing (or not signing). It keeps the main transfer thread for speculation and rumours.
-
Remember when Lambert strangely referred to Grant Holt as "A real man"?

Nobody cares about what used to happen. Right now, it's utterly pointless that we keep getting new threads started about players we haven't signed. Your fellow moderator appears to agree.
If people refuse to use the transfer speculation thread for transfer speculation, I'd suggest an alternative of create a new sub-forum for speculative transfer targets. When they have officially signed, they could be moved over to Heroes Discussion.
That way people who are desperate to start a new thread can do so, without ruining the site for everyone else.

Hmmm.
Are you per chance a member of the Footy collective? This (thread organisation) being one of his bugbears.
-
Random unrelated thought but this year will be 13 years since we appointed Lambert. It seems like yesterday to me!

I think need a single thread so that discussions about how threads can be organised are kept in one place so that the discussions around Big Grant Holt aren’t interrupted by persistent pettifogging.

I'm not a moderator. I decided life's too short to argue the toss about the minutiae of message-board adminstration with angry people anymore. So I stopped.
Feel free to take your suggestions to someone who is as passionate about the subject as you are. If such a person exists.

You're diverting now making this thread about Lambert. You posted up that this was happening because some all seeing eye on transfers said so and then....nothing!
Of course he could still sign and you'd be hailed as an in the know of sorts. Should he not, well, you will probably be hailed as something else.

He should have his own sub-forum. I'll start a few threads to suggest it.

Is Grant Holt coming in exchange for Duran?

We have a January transfer thread already for rumours and speculation.
-
By the time you get up tomorrow Robbo he will be in the door I promise (fingers crossed thing)
-
I will hold you to that, better cross more than your fingers.
-
Couldnt we just erm set up a poll and whatever scores highest roll with that?
-
He was a regular under Poch last season and I actually thought Poch was sorting them out before sacked and rated at Monaco , so no problem with this at all even if the chavskis reckon he is crap , take no notice of them .
-
Based on him mostly playing at right back, as opposed to centre half.

No it wasn't.
It was explained to you that "signed" is added to the title when they sign, and that after a while "signed" is then removed as everyone knows they have signed. It wasn't bollocks the first time and it isn't bollocks now, you just can't grasp it.

Well according to the Chelsea fans, he is a right-footed CB with a mistake waiting to happen who can’t play RB, should fit in perfectly here then!

I don't suppose there are any statistics available about how many goals Chelsea concede when he's played at right-back compared to when he's at centre-back?
-
That's Percy's night-duty taken care of for the next few months.

What are both the meaning and significance of the letters in the poll?
Thank You.

Well according to the Chelsea fans, he is a right-footed CB with a mistake waiting to happen who can’t play RB, should fit in perfectly here then!
Right-footed is OK compared to the description of Simon Stainrod I once read from (I think) a Falkirk fan who suggested our mid-1980s strike was 'no footed'. It may even have been in a relatively early edition of H&V.
-

In The Shirt On The Pitch. It refers to when signings used to be confirmed, there used to be a picture of them in the Villa shirt, on the pitch. Things have moved on since then. But some things haven’t.
You are very welcome.

ITSOTP
In the shadow of the past/prophet that was all I could find on research.

Technically this ITSOTP isn't allowed on site rules for giving both text style speak and shouting.
Maybe it should be removed from the poll as it also complicates things further
'The use of text speak should be avoided at all times. There is no excuse for its use when there is a full keyboard in front of you with each letter available at a single key press. Refrain from using bold or colours other than for highlighting certain text. Don't SHOUT. The use of caps lock is the equivalent to shouting on the forums, don't continually do it, it's rude'

The poll says People who do it need better distractions in life.
Do what? What is it ?
Do it ?
And how can I see who voted without casting my vote?
-
It is a secret ballot. And apologies for the typo.
-
If it is new for 25 that there will be a topic about a certain player, speculation, as I proposed on the transfer thread days ago, should be in the title.
I kindly enquired about new posts being formed for transfers, since I could see the possibility of new threads on players arriving why dnt we actually have a thread for that discussion itself?
As seen here :
For 2025 would speculation threads be welcomed ?
The likelihood for specific player threads Andrés García and Loïc Badé although must have (Speculation) in thread title not to mislead until official
Diego Carlos and Kosta Nedeljković have their own threads, so it could be argued as only fair for their replacements to have their own discussion thread with speculation included in title .
I'm making enquiries here as I won't start any new speculation threads if not wished for. It's best to do what the overall community suggest.
At the time it was suggested no new player threads.
However Bade and Disasi have been given threads with out speculation in brackets!
-
So If there is to be a debate or vote about player threads and transfers, it would be best served in a dedicated thread containing the question and discussion.
The thread would be titled When should a new signing thread be started? Then can have a community discussion on the Answer. And what to have in the poll with debate and discussion taken on board
I already put forward my theory about when a pre-match thread should start. That is given maximum 90 to 70 hours before. (Different circumstances when a match when there is a major gap between matches)
Furthermore, adding a poll to this already divided thread with convoluted, ambiguous, and rule-breaking language further distracts from the matter at hand which is the transfer and merits of Axel Disasi.
-
It’s really not as important as you are attempting to make it.
-
It’s really not as important as you are attempting to make it.
But enough about CD. FV should calm down as well.
-
I don’t think they think it is either. I think they’re a troll. Someone will say it’s bullying and that they are non-neurotypical. FootyVill will take a break for 3 months. Then the same thing will happen again.
It’s comforting.
-
Personally this thread is confusing as some offensive going on regarding Jesus leads me to have patience , a virtue, to if and when Axel plays any minutes for Aston Villa
That will be my criteria on this particular player and situation
Untill he sets foot on the pitch for Villa I won't set foot on this thread!
-
Yes it’s so confusing discussing a player with a little more specificity because there are indications from football journalists there is a decent chance he might sign for us.
-
I propose that before any thread is started the originator should circulate a briefing paper to all members with a full outline of the topic at hand together with a bullet pointed summary. This will then be considered by a Star Chamber of senior members and a decision on whether it is to be allowed go forward as a topic for discussion.
-
So, no new news on Disasi, then ...

This will then be considered by a Star Chamber of senior members and a decision on whether it is to be allowed go forward as a topic for discussion.
There you go again thinking this place is a democracy.

Well according to the Chelsea fans, he is a right-footed CB with a mistake waiting to happen who can’t play RB, should fit in perfectly here then!
I don't suppose there are any statistics available about how many goals Chelsea concede when he's played at right-back compared to when he's at centre-back?
Look, it’s not my fault that some people disagree with the concept that the less goals we concede the better.

And with it being an autocracy can I suggest bans for perpetrators jumping the gun.

Thanks F-V, that made me chuckle.

Nice one Footy
Ps you get a fair bit of stick on here but I enjoy the majority of your posts, keep up the good work

ITSOTP isn’t text speak, though. It’s an abbreviation.

From what I’ve been reading, this sounds like another dud, so not holding my breath.

My guess is they won’t announce until after the Celtic game. 100 percent focus needed.

So this guy has his own thread with a random title but unclear if this is speculation or not and I’ve read the thread and moats posts are unrelated. Success?

It's an initialism.
-
It could become text speak.
-
What is the difference between an acronym and an initialism?
Both acronyms and initialisms are made up of the first letter or letters of the words in a phrase. The word acronym typically applies when the resulting thing can be read as a word; for example, radar comes from "radio detection and ranging" and scuba comes from "self-contained underwater breathing apparatus." The word initialism only applies when the resulting thing is read as an abbreviation; for example DIY, which comes from "do it yourself," is pronounced by saying the names of the letters. Note that the word acronym is also sometimes used to mean "initialism."
What is the difference between an acronym and an abbreviation?
An acronym is a kind of abbreviation. Abbreviations can be shortened forms of any kind. For example, appt is an abbreviation of appointment, and ASAP is an abbreviation of as soon as possible. ASAP, however, also qualifies as an acronym because it is made up of the initial letters of the phrase it comes from: as soon as possible.

XLNT As I'm not in a community that uses text speak* That's the first time I've seen that shortened version for the word. It's quite good and possibly the best thing about this topic.

I should have added, texting seems to be a thing of the past, superseded by What's Apping maybe? with emojis gaining the upper ground on text speak. Is that correct kids?
-
I think predictive text put an end to most text speak before WhatsApp did. Why would anyone bother typing "thx" when it's much quicker to type "thanks"? I'm still partial to the odd ROFLcopter, though.
-
Thanks cd. I'd never heard of ROFLcopter either.

partially predictive text and partially changes to SMS services which made sticking to a character limit less necessary.

This deal seems to have gone quiet? We desperately need defensive reinforcements!

Maybe we, as a club, had something more important to focus on for a few days.

Chelsea won’t release him to us.
-
He doesn't even solve the immediate problem if he comes in on loan, as he'll be ineligible for 2 of our next 3 games.
Hopefully, Monchi's list is a bit longer than him.
What an absolute shitshow this Transfer window has been.
-
So he wants to come to us and not Spurs. Chelsea see us as a CL rival versus Spurs who are clowns

He's cup-tied, so can't play against Spurs; and we play Chelsea in one of our next two PL games.

Have the decision makers at Chelsea not watched us play lately or something?

As bollocks as we have been at times we are only 3 points back of them. That 5th spot could be as good as it gets so I can kind of see where they are coming from. Tells you a lot that Emery has got us to the point where Chelsea see us rivals for anything.

So even if we sign a CB, we still have no CB for several upcoming games.

Only cup tied for FA cup, could play against Spurs and Ipswich.
-
We are playing Spurs in the FA Cup.
-
Yep, and if we somehow get past Spurs, that means he'd be ineligible for 3 of our next 5 games.
And hopefully by the time the CL comes back around Torres and Mings will be available, so he's likely to be a bench option, or right-back option.

I'm not sure with the way Konsa has been playing!

At least if we buy him he can play against Chelsea, and it's just the cup games he can't play in. A loan at this point doesn't really fix our immediate problem, unless Mings and Torres are miraculously cured in the next few days.

Felix going out on loan to AC Milan, so there is now no loan option for Disasi. Only option would be to buy.

If Chelsea have now reached their maximum of 6 permitted outgoing loans, then us loaning Disasi is now off the table and we can only buy him.
With the caveat that I've already misread the rules once today..
-
Well unless we have something up our sleeve that has bamboozled all the pundits and twitter groupies i feel we might fuck this up in regard to getting a CD in
-
Where does it say only 6 outgoing loans? Does it not include 21 year olds and under?
-
Is Badeashile injured? Would have thought they’d have been hawking him around and he looks much more like an Unai centre back than Disasi

So, with Felix no longer an option (if he ever was), I suppose it frees things up for this bloke to join from Chelsea?

Fucking hell. I just assumed Chelsea had 50 players out on loan anyway so didn't think that was an issue. Bloody minefield this loaning lark.

We did have two targets lined up and had agreements with both of them before they or their clubs changed their minds. It's disappointing that we are seemingly going to end up with no new CB but acting like we just didn't bother trying to sign anyone for that position, and calling it gross negligence or whatever is a bit silly.

Pau Torres broke his metatarsal on 30th December, which left us with 3 recognised centre backs. We then proceded to sell one of those and one of the others got injured in the very next game. That has left us having to play 2.5 important games (one extremely important one that could have had serious implications if we had lost) with a makeshift CB pairing.
Gross negligence may be a little too far, but it's hardly been great squad management has it?

You're ignoring my point entirely.
A new CB only became a priority in the last week or so. It was not, as others have claimed, a priority for the whole window. And despite that, we did make several efforts to sign a CB, and both times we were let down by the player or their club. Things haven't worked out and it's disappointing. It is not a case of the club just deciding they don't give a f**k and are happy to have to play with Konsa or Kamara or whoever at CB.
We had Mings fit, and Bade 99% done when we let Carlos go. We had Disasi agreed on personal terms shortly after Bade let us down. Chelsea fucked us over on that.
-
It's negligence. No other word for it at this level.
Of course it is - it would be negligent if all three were fully fit now. But we’ve literally seen how we’re exposed if they’re not.
-
surely it is negligent if in January we didn't try at all. We clearly did with two targets. The manager has to want them vs just anyone.
-
We didn’t have to sell our remaining centre-back without a replacement, that’s the negligent bit.
-

You do not think in World Football we could have found an adequate cover at centre half when we have a genius in charge of transfers?
The excuse being that Chelsea did not want to do us any favours, no shit sherlock.
-
So as I understand it - The guy from PSG isnt in yet. Assuming that comes off, we have probably improved our forward options.
Letting the CB go, without replacing means again were looking at a window when we're overall weaker after a window. Which is a worry as I was expecting us to make amends for the summer.
-
I have just been to Wing Yip supermarket and Disasi has parked up and is heading in their restaurant. He said he fancied a Snake stir-fry with Sichuan sauce. Make what you will of that.🧏🏾

It's about finding a CB that the manager wants, who wants to come, that the selling club wants to sell at a price that we can work with based on the rules governing financing. The commitments for playing time also as we saw with Bade. I imagine if it was as easy as you're suggesting we'd have found aplayer by now.

We need Diasi to go full Peter Odemwingie and drive to Villa Park right now.

Funny that Bade backed out over playing time just before Mings got injured. If he'd held his whist a few more hours he might still have come.

It looks like they bet the farm on Disasi, it was such a done deal, someone put a thread up.
Unfortunately they forgot that the player belongs to Chelsea who said, give a CL rival a bit of help? F Off. Which was hardly surprising.
-
Talkshite are reporting that Disasi wants to come to Villa but Chelsea have agreed terms with Tottenham for him. We're seen as a top 4 rival whereas Spurs aren't.

So why sell Carlos without a replacement in?
Do we really need Marcus Rashford right now?
-
This is nothing short of a monumental balls up. Name another club in the last sixteen of the champions league with one recognised centre half, and two unknown right backs. It’s oh so typical Villa. It’s been happening for years and years. From Muzzy Izzett to Robbie Keane to no one during the relegation year January window.

I'm.not ignoring your point at all and do agree there has been an element of bad luck. Torres getting injured before the transfer window opened should have set alarm.bells ringing though, particularly with the fixture list we had in January.
We then compounded the problem by selling Diego Carlos without already having a replacement secured. Now, it might well have been that we couldn't have brought someone in until Carlos had gone, but we left ourselves in what appears from the outside to be an unnecessarily precarious position.
-

And from a position of relative strength compared to times gone by. The centre half thing is shit. I'm OK with everything else so long as this Asensio chap finally does arrive.
-
We need to move on from Disasi and hopefully we have someone else in the pipeline.
Chelsea and Spurs are fucking with us.
-
Exactly that - why sell Carlos if we didn’t have a replacement in place. We have left ourselves massively exposed. There’s very obvious evidence- we lost to a rubbish side at the weekend and both goals involved poor defending. I find it bizarre that people don’t see this is a big cock-up that leaves us very reliant on luck for it not to result in disaster.

Yes, we're in an unfortunate position now. But some posters are rewriting history with the CB situation. By all accounts Bade was in the bag, club and player in agreement. He backed out last minute and Mings was injured shortly after. We went from having replaced Carlos to having lost Mings and Bade in the space of about 24 hours. It's extremely unfortunate but not a result of bad planning or negligence. At the same time we had Disasi lined up and agreed to personal terms, and Chelsea blocked us there. Again, not down to negligence or lack of effort on our part.
I can guarantee if we brought in some no name journeyman at the last minute tonight, the same people crying about gross negligence would be crying about the lack of a big name signing.
It's perfectly understandable to be concerned about how the next few weeks are going to go. Acting like the club is falling apart and it's a personal affront to the fans and all that nonsense is just ridiculous. (Not aimed at you specifically there)
-
If it does pan out that way, and I think there is still time for something to happen then thats the crux, for all the fun-poking at the 'bed wetters' on here, the transfer team haven't had to nip off to avert a global trade war, this is what they are supposed to be doing. Stopping the CL qualification becoming a once in a lifetime event.
-
We need to move on from Disasi and hopefully we have someone else in the pipeline.
If so it has to be a very short pipeline more like a pipe nipple.

I would hope we could do 2 deals at the same time, or at least have a spare fax machine lying around for these special circumstances.

Look at the Bailey rumours today - no one had anything on that until today (even though it is probably balls)
Still a lot of the day to go

Thing is he wasn’t “in the bag” though - you either are or you aren’t. It’s bad planning if you’re playing half a season with 3 senior centre-halves - 2 of which are injured at the point the window closes. It’s not unfortunate, it’s not doing a very good job.

I suppose getting a CB in would be no harm

What do we do for the CL squad if we've got 5 new players? Someone's getting left at home.

@Matt_Law_DT
Just when I thought I was out...
-
Appears he's desperate to sign for us rather than Spurs. Pretty sure Axel Disasi loves the Villa more than I do at this point.
-
What do we do for the CL squad if we've got 5 new players? Someone's getting left at home.
I reckon if Disasi lands, then him and Rashford definitely. Rely on Cash / Konsa / Bogarde for RB
I'd then go Malen over Asensio for the added striker coverage he gives but it's a flip of a coin.
If Disasi doesn't land, Garcia in his place.
-
Disasi to spurs not happening now.
-
What do we do for the CL squad if we've got 5 new players? Someone's getting left at home.
You would guess Garcia isn't anywhere near ready at that level.

I assumed he was being left out anyway, but that still leaves one of Disasi, Asensio, Rashford and Malen. Rashford was talking like CL was a definite for him, so I'd assume it was part of the conversation before he joined.
We have to submit the squad quite soon, but it might come down to what the prognosis on Torres is. Naming Disasi in there when we might only need him for one game, if even, is a big decision.
-
Sounds like he’s signing.
-
Presumably we're buying him? A loan doesn't do us much good in the immediate future.

Sounds like he’s signing.
Does it? Any update on the “he wants Villa but Chelsea want Tottenham story” ?

christ on a bike, finally.

I suppose we were likely to play a makeshift defense against Spurs anyway, and we'll just have to hope Mings is back for Chelsea.

So Diasi stood his ground, told Chelsea he had no intention to go those tramps in North London and only wanted to join Villa. Who are in the CL and just signed Rashford and Asensio. It wasn't a hard decision really.

Depending on how you classify "senior players", we've got quite a few out on loan ourselves. If it means "has a first team appearance for the club", then it's:
Dendoncker
Coutinho
Buendia
Nedelkovic
Moreno
Kesler-Hayden
Gauci
And you could argue both Illing-Junior and Dobbin also count as "senior players" given their top-flight experience at other clubs.
My guess is the "maximum loans" thing was related to us not being able to take another loan after Rashford and Asensio.

For the 2024–2025 season, Premier League clubs can register a maximum of four loan players.
No more than one loan player can be from the same club, and no more than two can be from other Premier League clubs.
Clubs cannot loan out a player they acquired in the same transfer window.

The double Disasi problem
Nizaar Kinsella
BBC Sport football news reporter
Published
31 December 2024
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has done an excellent job since he joined the club in the summer, but one continued trend is frustrating supporters.
Axel Disasi, a giant central defender, keeps being selected to play at right-back.
The Frenchman was at fault for Omari Hutchinson's goal which clinched victory in a 2-0 win for Ipswich on Monday; while Liam Delap netted a penalty in the first half at Portman Road.
Like in his other matches at right-back, Disasi generally struggled with using the ball while on the flank and lacks the physical profile to get up and down the pitch.
There's a risk that these bad performances could have a longer-term impact on the former Monaco defender and damage his confidence.
And there's no coincidence that Disasi's best performance in the Premier League this season was against Southampton, the only time he played in his natural position.
Of course, Reece James was only fit enough for the bench and the Italian coach may have felt he could gamble by resting Malo Gusto.
But playing Disasi - and other centre-backs at right-back - is also blocking chances for youngster Josh Acheampong, who has excelled in his limited first team appearances.
The 18-year-old has just signed a new contract and has been given a permanent first-team locker at the training ground.
Utilising Disasi at right-back is causing Chelsea issues defensively and blocking a talented youngster's pathway.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cp8nl2p1pn8o
My take is don't play him at right-back. But he should be good for us at centre-back

Perhaps they did, if you believe they bid for Guehi, doesn't seem outrageous to think they would still be after a defender today when Palace said no.

-

Quicker as well. As I've said before Konsa and Pau are more sweep behind style defenders, Mings and Disasi will step out and try to win the ball more. Carlos never became a regular for us because he's not aggressive enough to do the Mings role but not quick enough or good enough at ready play to do the sweeping role. I think he'd have been fine if we defended deep (backed up by all his best performances being against teams who pinned us back) but he just wasn't suited to how we play at all.
-
Is he any better than Diego?
Well, his loan fee is reportedly more than half what we sold Diego for, so you’d hope so. I don’t think we’re saving much on wages either if we’re covering them in full. I’m pleased we’ve got him, but it all seems a bit chaotic.

Nothing official as yet so why are folks so sure we have him

When was the last time a player preferred us to any of the so called top 6?
The loan fee is in line with what you pay for this level of player.
We get chance to assess him over the rest of the season.
Last minute maybe chaotic no.

Reading between the lines, Unai wanted him but Chelsea played hardball with wages and loan fee. Injuries meant that our need was bordering on desperate, so we did the deal.

I saw him in the Square Peg. He told me it’s happening
-
Is this confirmed now

Not as of yet.

I just hope he's not relying on Birmingham public transport to get the deal done or we've no chance. If he's waiting for the eleven he won't have signed by the end of the summer transfer window.

Might replace Konsa in the team soon enough.
Not ‘in the team’ I wouldn’t have thought. Konsa will probably be at RB for the really important games. Cash is just about adequate against weaker opposition.
But you’re right - Konsa at centre-half is a definite weak spot (unless he’s with Mings anyway).

So it’s a Disasi waiting to happen.

Is this the first time that we have submitted a deal sheet?

Is this the first time that we have submitted a deal sheet?
Wouldn’t every deal involve a deal sheet?
-
The thing that swung it is we have a thread for him and Spurs didn't bother.
And also I had a word with him earlier at Wing Yip. I told him he could park there on match days and buy jumbo king prawns at £9.99/kilo.
Is his preferred tipple BFG or Veltins?
I would say he’s more Veltins than BFG, but likely to be a Caipirinha man.

Nope, they're a very specific thing used in the last couple of hours of the window where there's a small delay with things like medicals.
-

I don't know, but on transfer deadline day it seems to refer to a deal that has been agreed upon but not fully completed before the deadline.
-
No deal sheets before 9pm on transfer deadline day and none after 11pm.

Good work, AV84.
I still wonder if we have ever submitted one before now.

Indeed. My mind is now racing ahead to him becoming a hero, then us not being able to sign him permanently 😂😭

Yes, deal complete! I think Chelsea pissed us around today, but Villa got a Centre Back through the door. Loan only as it currently stands.

There’s that famous sense of humour again. What’s up? You ran out of ‘funny’ memes? There must be a 12-year-old child you could ask?
To be fair, I did used to find it funny when you said our best defence is the one that concedes more goals and keeps fewer clean sheets. Until I realised you weren’t joking.

Quick watch of the highlights and it was Carlos and Škriniar both making their debut. Carlos started on the right and then was moved to the left. His attempted block for the first goal was .... something and noticeable ball watching / not looking at his player on occasion. Škriniar at fault for the second though. Didn't see much more of the defending as Fenerbahçe's opponents had a man sent off so highlights were them peppering the goal 2nd half.
-
Welcome Axel, give your all and you'll not go wrong. You have a head start by turning down Spurs and holding out for Villa.
-
Hadn’t realised he’s 6ft 3in, so will add more height to us
-
Another fellow countryman! You can never have too many Frenchmen in your squad.
-
I'm glad we got this over the line we really needed a defender.
-
Is there an option to buy if he's a good fit? He certainly looks the part as Dave Shelley said above "give your all" it's all we ask and I'll add, don't get injured.
-

There's nothing in the deal, but you'd think that if we like him and he likes us then there's no reason we wouldn't try to sign him - and Chelsea clearly don't want him so it'll probably get done. Same as if Lenglet had turned out to be the new Franco Baresi we'd probably have done what we needed to last summer to make it permanent.
-

Suspect he will go back and we will have another go for Bade, unless he turns out to be great of course
-
Clearly 'giving your all' is not all we ask!
-
From the little I've seen is a very good all round defender who drops a clanger every now and then, not unlike most defenders. I do wonder why we never give any of our youngsters a run. Different position, but I think Ned had the makings of a great full back. Hopefully, Emery will make a good player out of Disasi or at least get the best out of him while he's here.
-
Clearly 'giving your all' is not all we ask!
I know little about him but I expect he’s a professional, competent footballer, positionally aware, skilful, a good passer, is strong and has a good attitude. If he gives us the maximum of those attributes then I’m happy. If he starts Baileying around on the pitch I’m anything but.

Villa have now used a double Axel - both loanees but the first one went on to achieve our return to the top flight - lets hope this one can bring glory also
Presumably cup tied for this weekend - when does that change?
And of course cannot play against parent club
Hope he gets Konsa to stop being so complacent as he has been recently
-
He's signed so I can now discuss.

When we get knocked out or next season's competiton begins. Whichever comes first.

Toronto Villain shared an article by Jacob Transwell in it there is information regarding the moves for a central defender
Intentions to sign a central defender grew through January.
"With time running out, Disasi came into view. The situation appeared pressing, with Tyrone Mings’ injury leaving Konsa as the only available centre-back. Villa offered to loan Disasi until the end of the season, having been given assurances that he was available and the 26-year-old was willing to join.
On February 2, discussions began to break down. Villa viewed Chelsea’s loan conditions as too expensive, with the loan fee plus coverage of a percentage of his salary dismissed. Villa felt being rivals for a Champions League spot with Chelsea made an arrangement harder to find.
Following the apparent failure to sign Disasi, Villa figures were open to the possibility of waiting until the summer to sign a centre-back, despite the lack of depth in the position. The club were adamant that a defensive recruit would only be signed if they could provide value to Emery.
Emery is highly specific in his targets and if Disasi went to Tottenham, he was prepared to be without a centre-back. He saw Disasi as an ideal fit as the right centre-back, with Konsa the middle defender in Villa’s build-up shape of a back three. With the France international remaining keen to move to the Midlands, Villa restarted talks late in the evening despite Tottenham being the favourites. There was a breakthrough; a £5m straight loan was agreed"

For all the "horrid Chelsea, messing us around" hyperbole, what it appears actually happened was they told us how much they wanted us to pay to borrow their player, we said no, we left it for two weeks and then went back on the last day and just paid them what they asked us to pay in the first place.
So we could have just done that and had an actual centre-back in the squad for Wolves.

Him and mings both at cb. Thats a tall cb pairing
-
I was watching videos about Axel yesterday evening, interesting stuff, general opinion is he's suffered the same thing that Rashford has, manager after manager different opinion of players general instability, fallen out of favour, nothing to do with his ability, commenting on his main attributes, he has the ability in the box to read the game way faster than a lot of defenders, example given, was a cross from a corner, a set piece situation, all the other defenders stood around in the box taking up there designated marking positions, Axel knew precisely where the ball was going, while the ball was still in the air and knew precisely where he should be to counter that, had the courage to make his move, left his marking roll, got to the ball and using his body strength to clear it.
Just what Villa needs, last thing we need is another ball watcher.
-
There's something about him that I really like (with the caveat that I wasn't consciously aware of his existence until we were linked with him the other week).
He strikes me as the type of player that loves defending. Can't get enough of it. He celebrates tackles like they're goals, he get's stuck in as soon as the opportunity arises and when he goes up for a header he flies at the ball like it said something uncomplimentary about his loved ones. Compare that to Pau, who is up there as one of my favourite players, but he does tend to treat defending like I used to treat General Studies lessons at college - I'll do it because I have to, but that's not why I'm really here.
As a team, we're far too passive. So far this season, the best way to score a goal against us has been to try to score a goal against us. We will almost definitely buckle under that kind of pressure. Zero resilience. Tyrone has helped in that regard, and I don't think it's a coincidence that our defensive record got considerably better when he was back in the team. I hope Axel will have an even greater impact, and hopefully encourage some of our other players to put up a bit more of a fight when things get tough. A little less waving your arms in the air as you gracefully fall to the ground (Ezri - I'm looking at you), and taking a bit more responsibility.
I wonder how many of our players would have gone to Spurs if they had been in Axel's position yesterday. Axel didn't. He knew what he wanted, and he made sure he got it. I like him.
-
I'm ready to go to war for the lad after reading that, boozey!
-
I hope he turns out to be a massive success. I also hope he makes Konsa better because Diego didn't. Konsa needs to pick up his game. Competition will help with that. Also a settled defensive partner, and not being shunted between RB and CB. If Disasi replaces Konsa after all that then we will have a hell of a player on our hands. And he's already going to be popular for telling Spurs to fuck off, and helping to ensure he got his move to us last night.
-
I think he’ll start on Sunday and Konsa will get shifted to RB.

And neither of them able to pass a ball!
Id start Disasi in our next game at RCB. In all the talk about our injured CBs it is being somewhat ignored how rotten Konsa has been for ages. I've got the stage where I can't stand him, blaming all around him for Cunha making him a mug ffs

Apparently Villa were initially quoted a ridiculous loan figure as Chelsea didn't want him to go to a CL rival, which Villa rejected out of hand. Then he was offered to Spurs for a reduced sum which he turned down as he wanted to come to Villa. When Chelsea realised this they eventually relented and just accepted Villa's offer.

What was the original "ridiculous" loan figure?

Jacob Tanswell said they lowered the fee on the 1874 podcast. Didn’t mention figures though.

Obviously greater than £5 million as that was as high as Villa were prepared to go, along side of a percentgae of his wages.

Thank you for sharing this from both of you.
Interesting what people take from this and how they see or read into things. My focus was not of his so called gentle manner.
I think the interview importantly provides some insight to the Champions League Dilemma.
Here is my deduction:
In this interview was asked about Champions League
Axel says he is looking forward to Champions League football so it seems he must be one of the three to be elected.
The interview would be ITK and briefed on asking questions so wouldn’t be mentioning looking forward to Champions League football if Disasi wasn’t elected as one of the 3 from 5

Why not put Konsa at LCB - he played there for England?
I know Unai likes a left passer - but Konsa cannot pass with his good foot on the right!

It was like that when we beat them down there last season, but we had that hair trigger offside trap running then.

It was just a joke, Footy. Disasi's cup-tied status had been discussed (at length) in a number of threads ahead of the game against Spurs. It was common knowledge. Sid James has been dead for a very long time. The joke is that your 'information' was very old news.

If I was made to choose I'd go for Up the Khyber if only for the Tiffin scene as the battle rages around them, hilarious and Peter Butterworth was priceless.

Carry on Abroad or Camping for me.

Carry on Abroad or Camping for me.
Any particular reason for the latter?

Carry on movies are said to be bawdy, exploitive and crude humour and exactly the sort of behaviour likes of MPs and Television presenting people are facing misconducts , sacking and investigations. Seems those films have influenced people which is disappointing.

'You've stood on my Indian dress'

This is very true. In the 1980s Tony Blair claimed he used to stand on the terraces at Newcastle with Sid James cheering on the likes of Beardsley, Keegan and Waddle.

Yes ii watched one the other day ( ITV3 and hungover ). i laughed at bits that were ridiculously stupid , different time but very popular . You couldn’t do any of that now but there was some witty cast members. A bit of nostalgia i guess from my youth .

Was there one in which Sid played Henry VIII?
I think I saw it at the pictures on holiday at a Butlins or Pintins when I was about 8.

Yep, Carry On Henry.

So you are equating what Saville did with the following exchange;
Hattie Jacques to Kenneth Williams 'But I want to be wooed.'
Kenneth 'You can be as wooed as you like with me.'
-
I expect he pointing at Greeeggggeg from Masterchef telling women he has a cock rather then Saville.

I know but I just wanted to take it to extremes to get those lines in.

As I (unintentionally) started this, my answer is the correct one and I’m with cd… Screaming is the best.

I’ve just nearly finished Kenneth Williams biography ‘born brilliant’
He was a very interesting, clever, entertaining yet complicated even tortured individual

A lot of them were tortured in one way or another. Charles Hawtrey was far more comfortable in his sexuality than Kenneth Williams, but a raging alcoholic, Sid James obsessed with Babs, James and Williams despising each other.
I did a film degree back in the day and did my dissertation on Carry on Films… only in the 90s!!
Anyway Screaming, Kybher and Cleo are great, dont lose your head is also a gem.
Does it get any better than Dr Nookey and Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond
-
Wasn't it Hawtrey who despised being in them as he felt he was a distinguished actor who should have had more recognition?
-
Didn't despise them enough to say no to the money though.
-
Wasn't it Hawtrey who despised being in them as he felt he was a distinguished actor who should have had more recognition?
I think a few of them were like that, proper ‘actors darling’. Hawtrey had quite a tragic end I think, amputee living in isolation. James, Williams, Hawtrey and Hattie Jacques were all a bit tragic in their own way

I mean there’s been a lot of comedy talk hasn’t there ? so I was just sharing here .
Historically this Axel Disasi thread has covered all sorts and at the moment there’s been discussion on comedy.

I was confused by the link but I get it now, thanks.

Yes I mean on the Boo Kamara thread it’s gone off topic and doesn’t seem to be any dissenters or disparaging remarks there. I merely made a following on contribution regards comedy here in tune with the goings on.

I said to the missus, who'd bought the tickets, it was as if he's just had a massive tax bill and the tour was the only way to pay it, and the tax office were on a staff night out in the audience. He was irritable, gloomy and it all seemed like a chore.
And I loved Pheonix Nights.

I generally want to assume he's in the wrong because I reckon he's a massive twat (though I don't mind some of his work), but it's hard to tell how prickish the hecklers were being from a sixty second clip. If they've heckled for thirty seconds and he's got them thrown out, he's a bellend. If they've been at it for ages and they're ruining it for people who have spent a fortune to attend, fair enough, fuck them off.

The hecklers had it coming and can have no complaints. They were clearly annoying those around them. He's just a twat, however, so nobody comes out of it well.

I think that's a bit unfair. He's far better on Inside The Factory than that bald chap who used to do it, Greg(g)* Wallace. But my little girl loves Inside The Factory, so I've watched that a bit and he at least doesn't come across as a condescending prick.

Oh, and I agree with SE/CDBF. Not sure what Footy is meant to have done here that's so different from what anyone else does.
The only comment I'd offer here is that generally when things go off topic there's a flow to it. Someone will make a typo that creates a few jokes and we get a page of silliness a people try to think of fish puns or obscure film/TV/music references. Once it settles down things go back on topic and whilst a few people are annoyed at 3 new pages of nonsense it's accepted that's just what happens.
What Footy posted didn't really have any flow with what had gone before so it stands out as a bit odd. It's not something I see as worth commenting on or being annoyed about but it was definitely different to the normal way things get side-tracked on here.
-

Not a very high bar being better than Gregg Wallace is it? I've never seen the programme so can't really comment but if your girl likes it and finds how stuff is made educational all well and good. In fact, it's the sort of thing I think I'd be good at myself and I'd add humor to it. "This is where I used to get a sleep when on night shift, over here is where I'd score an 1/8", this is the welding shop where we'd all disappear from on a Friday lunchtime and sneak out to the Norton Pub."etc.

That's mad, if only for the fact that any food from the fast food giants is only edible searingly hot and fresh.
The concept of Just Eat and Deliveroo are a complete anathema to me for this reason more than anything boring like pollution or exploitation.

That doesn't surprise me at all. I got chatting to his former promoter at a Proclaimers Gig. He walked out on McGuinness mid tour because of his unreasonable demands and the way he spoke to people. In fact, he kept going on about how much he disliked the bloke. The worst he's ever had to work with was what he said.

I see as I find, in a heavily edited TV show.
Joking aside, clearly these anecdotes suggest he's a bit of a prick. However, I reserve the right to use WDYTYA and the 60 second interview in Metro (on the rare occasions I now read it) to reach solid and incontrovertible evidence of a celeb's character.

>> Oh, Kay <<
Stiffing the security
Panto season has got theatre types all reminiscing about their most notable celebrity encounters over the years.
Someone who worked at a large venue up north was remembering the time they had Peter Kay in to film a segment for his "Britain's Got The Pop Factor..." parody. Filming was running over, so Kay asked two of the venue staff if they'd mind staying late to keep the building open a bit longer. In return, he promised them both £50, cash in hand.
They agreed. Peter got his extra shooting time. And then did a runner out the back so he didn't have to cross their paths and pay up.
>> Park strife <<
Additional? Revenue?
Last week's Big Question – about the stand-up who insists on being paid a share of venues' car parking as well as his standard fee – led to quite a few people sharing their experiences of him.
One story goes that he told an arena he was playing that he wanted a pound for every car parked in their car park. The management replied that it was an unusual request and not something they'd ever done before; to which he trotted out his well-worn line that punters wouldn't be parking there if he wasn't on, so he deserves a share, etc.
Eventually they concede and the demand is folded into the contract. Come settlement time, the comedian is poring over the details with a fine-tooth comb and sees a figure of £8 a night listed under 'Additional Revenue'. Further investigation reveals this is the car parking money he angled for.
£8? For an entire arena? Are they having a laugh? No, they tell him. He asked for a pound for every car that parked in their car park, and the arena has eight spaces in the loading bay. The big car park he'd had his eye on? That was owned and operated by NCP, outside the venue's control...
NB: It's Peter Kay.
>> Case by case <<
More penny-pinching from Peter
anon writes:
"When Peter Kay did his charity song with Susan Boyle, he asked his video director to bring separate DVDs of each camera's shots around to his house so that he could oversee the edit. At the end of the day, Kay handed the director a carrier bag containing the jewel cases from all the DVDs saying, 'They're 20p each and I don't need them, so take them off of the bill.'"
C writes:
"For one of his TV series, Peter wrote a scene that involved a large buffet spread. Sandwiches, pies, crisps, cakes... the lot. The amount of food wasn't really necessary for the story, but artistic vision and all that. At the end of the shoot he had it all bagged up and took it away. Bin bags of the stuff."

Yes.
I slept on it.
There's off topic and then off topic . And you know what I mean.
There's deliberate actions, accidental actions and then just plain wind ups.
My post was in response to "Boo Kamara" and not in a manner suggesting that Kamara has done anything wrong. Should it matter? Probably not in isolated incidents, but it's a constant pattern of behaviour, it's irritating, nobody else does it, and that, added to numerous other things, becomes too much.
You've been there, and left the forum for a bit. I've been there and done the same . But I've been on this forum for more than 25 years and in all that time I don't think I've ever known such a persistent and consistent approach that feels like a deliberate wind-up. I say feels because that's how it makes me react. Almost half my life spent on here chatting to you lot and whilst many wind-up merchants, trolls and ne'er-do-wells have come and gone, or been around a lot there just isn't the same level of intensity and self-regard everywhere on this board.
Anyway, maybe it's just me, maybe I cope with the large part but then get worn down by it. We can read about Ron Saunders, discussions about our better players and tactical approaches to meandering off topic and funny discussions that stick to a theme, to someone that does it completely differently and wants it all their own way.
To then get called out by the very same person on a frequent basis about what they don't like, why everyone else is wrong, why things should work in an alternative fashion, and who tries to dictate the way the forum should work feels wrong to me. They then decide to do their own thing and fuck everyone else anyway before then suggesting we all just move on (before then doing it again. And again. And again. It's hypocritical, it's annoying and it ruins the comfort of this place. For me.
If you like it and enjoy it then good on you, you're better and more tolerant peeps than me. I thought I was quite a tolerant person. I like discussions and disagreements and talking things through. There just isn't the scope to do that though. I express my frustration and am told I'm bullying.
Most people alter their behaviour to adapt to situations, most people on here empathise with the feelings of others, regardless of how much they may disagree.
Plenty of people dislike the politics or reasoning of others but rarely, very rarely, when someone behaves in a way that antagonises others so clearly do they continue in that fashion

I'm not sure what's going on here other than trying to dominate me and continue the unneeded narrative after I made it clear several times, but Drummond sir, please your projecting . And it's a lot of projection on to me.
Let's be fair, reasonable, and honest Drummond.
What exactly is it about my musings , way of being that irks you so. Respectfully can't you just disagree with what I say when you want to disagree. Why such sweeping generalisations on my posting and character??!!!
Context so H and V know truths .
I may be mistaken and awfully sorry if it wasn't you as someone (and more than one ) have engaged via pm but did you once contact me very nicely to engage via pm being sympathetic , understanding and enquiring about any (my) condition given you said you're familiar with supporting people (from what I recall please if you have the message you sent I give permission to post it here as I can't quite recall everything you said) I think you very well did but my mind plays tricks ok so I'm not trying to say you did but I felt you did and thought it was ever so nice even though I'm weary of people.
So I can recall that I responded to you (or /and others) with a nice message and gave my thoughts on privacy and sharing, as well as my warm respects and gratitude for messaging.
It's very confusing if this is the case with your good self as others who are mean have never communicated with me private message but as you had I feel completely and utterly drained by this suggestion of permanent wind up!

I do’t have the time served, but recognize the sentiment.
Sorry can't you see for those who get annoyed , it is primarily due to my way of thinking and simply being unsuitable to your tastes and preferences.
And Drummond I don't really think that's on as I do feel you did pm me and I feel confused that you're saying these things about me.
I have openly said I never mean to annoy or cause ill harm to annoy one here and I try to fit in as much as I can fit it and get engaged and enthusiastic on topics as well as having many thoughts and ideas. I apologize if that overwhelms or annoys you or anyone as it's not the intention!
I'm not sure why there is an issue too when I advise moving on is because it's unnecessary to dwell , I'm mindful of others in community and/or that situation has been worked out or understood, and no need to on go discussion.
Of course, I understand and respect people have sentiments, but I believe what you said about being a purposeful wind up., is outrageously unfair, and peddling that narrative when I have a strong feeling I answered a pm sent from you is not on, darn unjust, and I'm calling it out if it's the case!
I'm saying let's move on again from this please and I, like many others, have valentines to prepare for but owe to myself to reply but respect what's being said and how Drummond is feeling. I'm hoping it's constructive that I say projecting on me Drummond as I really don't know what else I can say :
There was a show called different strokes and the father who adopted two boys was called Drummond. The theme tune
But they got, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes,
Diff'rent Strokes. It takes,
Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got,
not alot,
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

I send love to everyone here! And the way I think, feel, or write may have to mean some have to be more open-minded as similarly do I to other people's preferences on humour, crudeness or beliefs let alone football opinions!
Now that's all cleared up I like to sort out rest of my valentine's prep so have a nice valentine's weekend with your beloveds, for those celebrating, and do enjoy the Ipswich match this weekend.
My game is fair play.
I will carry on being me on Wednesday for Liverpool. And will be looking by then to discuss Axel Disasi appearance like everyone else on this thread!
Up The Villa!

Paddy McGuinnes came across really well on his WDYTYA I thought so I have revised my opinion of him somewhat.
When he was filming in Vietnam he made someone drive four hours to get him a KFC because he wouldn't eat the local food.
I struggle with him on the Radio
Interesting idea but I think it would work better on TV.
Hahahaha! Excellent.

Once upon a time, there was a poster called Brice Jovial. It was a like a shit sitcom so he took a break and came back with some new characters (staff) and called it Footy-Vill. Re-boots never work.
-
I wonder how many new players check to see what the fans are saying about them....
"Hey Axel, there's a 41 page thread before you've even played"
"Wow, what are they saying ? Do they like me?"
"Most of it seems to be talking about Sid James, Peter Kay, and Paddy McGuiness "
"Nearly two weeks I've been at Bodymoor Heath. Why haven't I met these people ?"

As Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond might have put it.
'And up yours'

For a minute with all the posts I thought Diesi had got a bad injury thak f''k its just Peter Kay losing weight .

I don't really care what they post. I probably now only read about 10 - 20% of what they post, but they are definitely more than 1 person/let persona slip. You have the odd occasion where it's a completely different writing style and when it happens it really sticks out. People really just shouldn't engage though if it winds them up, you'll feel better.

I'd say "tedious" is when dozens of posters take threads off topic, but just one of them is constantly derided and bullied for doing so. The same poster also gets harassed for keeping threads on topic.
Pathetic.
-
Having had a few disgreements with Drummond over the years I think his sentiments represent mine spot on. And i will further add, in no way is there bullying going on. Calling out entirely outlandish statements, rehashing of press releases that we have all known about and words like 'insight' implying we are all thick beyond words are worthy of challenge shall we say.

There are only a couple of possibilities here.
Either Footy has some kind of condition that manifests in a posting style that inadvertently winds up some other users of the forum.
Or Footy is a troll account that is mimicking someone with a condition that manifests in a posting style that inadvertently winds up some other users of the forum.
Each of us has to choose what to believe.
If you choose to believe the former - and you're wrong - then there's no consequence.
If you choose to believe the latter - and you're wrong - then you're lashing out at someone for something they have no control over.
Why would you do that? What are you hoping to achieve? Is the idea to make the forum so unpleasant for Footy that you drive him away?
For what it's worth (not a lot), I appreciate Footy's enthusiasm and what I see as a genuine desire to share info. But, yep, he also posts stuff that I don't like. So I take the good, and ignore the bad.

Great post. Completely agree with your last paragraph.

I agree with above, live and let live, but has anybody considered the third option, is Footy HRH. Sabbaticals often coincide with foreign engagements of HRH, just saying....

I have an inkling to Footy's condition, but (in this day and age), I don't know whether it would be offensive to state it.

Lost In Munich is right and did he win the best poster username for the 15th year in a row recently too? Fair play.

I like to change my username to 'Coutinho Trap' in response it.

Big opportunity for Disasi v Ipswich. Delap bullied the likes of Carlos with embarrassing ease at Ipswich. Time to lay down a marker

In a few weeks, he’s gone from ”who?” to one of our most vital players. All that without playing an actual football match.

I’m only half joking. Whether he’s great/shit is likely to be the difference between how our season is remembered. I reckon he’ll play enough games to make an impact, one way or another.

It's a recognisable condition, but one that is not spoken about that much to not offend the sufferer.

His job today is keep Delap quiet. Do that effectively and we’ll be alright.

In the old days he would put a "reducer" on him to show the whippersnapper who was the boss.
Those days now long gone

He annoys me on such an irrational level. Every aspect of his being irritates me.

Couldn't see from the Holte what happened with their goal and whether he was at fault at all, but thought he looked good.
-
I thought he looked dodgy as fuck. First game and all that though.
-
Three players around Delap and not one stopped him getting the touch. Not just Disasi.
-

In what way, as I thought he did fine? Not trying to be argumentative, just wondering if I missed something?

I'm just in a bad mood and currently hate them all apart from Malen.
-
Mings was at fault for the goal. However two players on Delap and he still got to the ball first. Shocking defending all round.
-
I thought he was terrible every time I saw him at chelesea so I hjad my reservations. He was ok today, nothing more.
However, he is another body in the builidng in a position where we are short, but overall I remain unconvinced by him.
-
He had very little to do, he defended pretty competently, had a lot of time on the ball and used it conservatively. Not much to base a view on really.
-
He seemed to head the ball when I expected him to control it and lay it off.
-
I thought was ok thats it. He didnt wow me or anything like that. But wasnt awful either
-
I thought he was totally fine today, nothing to worry about here as a solid backup.
-

Nah. Maatsen is the first culprit , the guy skinned him with utter ease. Then the 3 and keeper all should deal with it. That said it's a superb finish.
-
As 4th choice centre half he is fine.
-
Thought he had a decent game , certainly an upgrade on Carlos
-

Honestly no, not on today's performance. He was awkward and slow at times, made several errors, missed a header to score a goal from our free kick and must share the higher percentage of blame for their goal. needs to improve very quickly otherwise we are in trouble.

First half, that through ball for the Watkins one on one miss.

Tremendous pass that was, one Pau would have been proud of.

It was a cracking pass, it deserved a goal.
-
What does Josh Widdecombe have? He seems fairly harmless a public figure to hate. And he supports his local team so respek'.
-
I went to see him and he was superb, the whole show was as libbed and relied on his interaction with the audience. It was a fantastic, really funny and he’s very quick.
-
Lovely fella too.
-

Nothing. There was a time when people assumed he did because of The Last Leg. I was just making a shit joke based on that. I like him.
-
Ah right!
-
Disasi was ok. Long term, he might not necessarily be Mr Right but he is certainly Mr Right Now

I don't, but I have no doubt he is a nice bloke. It won't stop me, though. I'm trying to think of other people who I know are probably nice but just rub me up the wrong way. There are probably loads. Micah Richards is probably the main one in the football world, I'm sure he's lovely.
-
He was shite for their goal, Disasi. Not the only one. Maatsen predictably soft as shite defending the cross, Mings weak as ever on his right side but if you watch it back Disasi starts off in the correct position. He's goal side of Delap but he's just a lot slower and weaker to the cross. It's a brilliant goal from Delap but Disasi can't let him get a shot in there. Very similar to a goal that Leicester got at Villa Park recently, one forward beating three defenders.
-
Good play from Delap, he shouldn't have been able to get to the ball with three defenders around him but he did, and steered into the only part of the goal he can score in. The stars aligned for him a bit.
-

I'm not sure I'd agree with that it was a brilliant goal at all. It was a fucking gift from us defensively.

That keeps happening to us though. Bit of clever movement from a striker and they get to the ball first too many times.
-

Spot on. I said the same about the Leicester goal on here at some point on Saturday night I think.
The cross should have been stopped in the first place by Maatsen, who was too square when facing the winger. Hopefully that can be improved with coaching.
-
Agree with both comments
They are down to 10 men, we let the cross in and three defenders can not prevent the finish.
-
The goal is 70% on Maatsen and 10% on the other 3 .
Maatsen is a major issue .
-
Maatsen can’t defend. I’m surprised at how poor he is, maybe exaggerated by how good Digne is all round.
-

And yet he was the best Left Back in the Champions League only last season. Emery must have done a shit job on him.
-
Although if you watch the second goal for Real in the final..... (TBF he had hands in some of the best Dortmund attacks as well).
-
I know brontebilly disagrees, but other than a couple of mistakes I thought he was really good tonight. Good on the ball, got his positioning mostly right and competed really well against very tough opposition - also worth noting we basically had no screen centrally in front of the defence, which makes it really tough. Well done.

Bit harsh thought he was good when he came on

Totally agree, looks a really good player, hope we can make it permanent.
-
Excellent performance, IMO. I love Mings, but Disasi bailed him out a few times tonight. I also liked the leadership he showed going over to Garcia after the first goal. Shame he's missing next two home games.
-
Well played tonight
-
With the Axel of awesome I particularly enjoyed his football ability in getting down the line on left wing in first half on one occasion neatly playing some football.
French flair.
Disasi won a corner from that play and he showed some passion in cajoling the crowd!

Good feet for a big man as well. There was a couple of times where he ghosted past a few of their players. I thought he had a great game.
-
Are we ignoring his Diego Carlos esque push up for an imaginary offside before half time that let Jota in 1 on 1?
-
Oh hark at Franco Baresi here…..
-
Oh hark at Franco Baresi here…..
It's almost like most players make a mistake most games.
-
Looks more composed with the ball than Mings or Konsa. There was one great little drop of the shoulder in the first half to get us into the final third.
-
Probably lacking a bit of match fitness but looks very capable to me and far better than the lad he has replaced.
-
He’s very good. He ‘s also ahead of Konsa on that showing.

I really like the look of him. Extremely composed on the ball. Shame he can't play on Saturday.

Interesting to see him partner Torres.
I think it could work.

Forgot about that, knock 6 points off him

And tell him, he is a very naughty boy.

No that was a mistake clearly. But overall he was very good, against a very side, with no real defensive midfield in place. He also bailed Ty out several times in the second half. I think you might have already decided he’s rubbish.
-
He’s very good. He ‘s also ahead of Konsa on that showing.
Trouble is he is now missing next two. If Konsa is back for both of them, it then becomes his shirt to lose again.
-
Hard to be sure watching on the box from afar, but Axel and Ty seemed to already have reasonable chemistry, be there to bail each other out when needed etc.
Pau will have had a long lay off, when fit he and Konsa may no longer be automatic first choice?
-

He's missing two of next three, he's eligible for Palace away next Tuesday.

Pau has to come back into this team.
-
He's been a useful signing. We needed him. He's an improvement on Carlos.
-
Axel does have to watch himself as the yellow card he picked up could have been red if chosen to look unfavourable.
he raises his hands and push rather than punches the liverpool opponent McAllister.
I don’t know how he was cautioned because a yellow wasn’t initially forthcoming.
Not enough for a red card though but ominously some communication to Pawson to book Disasi.
doesn’t help VVD and other liverpool players asking for more.
That was ADs biggest and gravest error last night as far as i’m concerned
-

I only half caught that and was wondering who it was. Striking difference between that and the young Uzbeki's mistake against Chelsea for Man City, where he was left alone to fester with it.
I'm impressed by him. If he carries on like this we should be looking to make it permanent.
-
He is a big guy. Looks a unit although a tad slow. He did well to put nunez off for that horror miss. He looked thrilled at that miss. Loved that passion
-
Still early days, but I've liked the look of what we've seen so far. If he carries on the way he has playing, I hope we can make it permanent.

If he was ours on a full time basis i think Konsa would struggle to shift him
-
Say he joins, it feels like we then have 4 CBs who all are much of a muchness, in a pretty good kind of way. I think Ozcan is being lined up as Mings replacement in a couple of years. I was hoping that Pau would be a level above but so far it hasnt turned out that way. I still feel we need one standout centre back if we want to make that final step to actually winning things. Perhaps Loic Bade was supposed to be that step.
-
Pau is a big step up in terms of distribution but not on the physical side of the job.

It's always the same when players are unavailable, their reputation soars! But I do think we need a centre back comfortable with distributing the ball at the back, that's not Disasi, definitely not Konsa and poor Mings is struggling badly with the ball near his feet. Liverpool were letting our CBs, Mings especially, have the ball and pressing hard on our midfielders and full backs instead. Torres is a big asset in that scenario.
I was in favour of bringing Mings back in for Torres, more that he would help organise the defence a lot better, settle Konsa a bit and be a leader where we had none. But unfortunately that hasn't really played out. Mings is struggling horribly these days and sadly doesn't look the player he was pre injury.
-
Pau Torres and him would my preferred pairing. Think they would be great.
-
Pau should start in the vast majority of games.
-
Disasi good with the ball distribution and has great upper body strength . Shame it's only a loan .

That summary is a bit like your match ratings.
Torres' reputation hasn't soared whilst he's been out, he was great before he got injured.

And that's the issue with him. He is too easily bullied . His distribution is good but even that hasn't been its best in the run up to his injury.
-
Pau should start in the vast majority of games.
Not against elite brutes like Chris Wood and Adama Traore please.
-
A couple of clumsy bits of play but an incredible wholehearted display. Clearly took real pride in his defending.
-

[/quote] looks a premature assessment. He has been outstanding recently and we have looked a lot better from set pieces with him in the team.We have sorely missed his aerial ability in defence and his blocks. He is far from finished.
-
Fantastic defending and he looks like he’s enjoying himself and is popular in the dressing room. I hope we sign him permanently.
-
He looks like a player who wants to stay with us.
No idea what will happen close season but looks quality to me and has all the physical attributes for a centre half.
-
I love this guys fucking passion. When he wins the tackle he roars at how happy he is that he won the challenge.
I love that
-
Disasi😍Is it possible to love a man deeply so soon after meeting him, just asking as I have no previous?

No idea. I'm just glad that it's Disasi that is the object of your desires.
-
Fantastic today, nice to see on the post match interview saying how much he loves it at the Villa.
-
Fantastic display and at RB too which allowed the best CB pairing at the club to play together again. That's 2 away wins on the bounce now we are getting some stability in the central defence .
-
What a bloke, made it absolutely clear to Chelsea he wanted to join the Villa, then turns up like a man possessed by playing for the Villa.

😂. Did I say how much I like the Irish accent the other day?

Thankfully not. :)

Hope we can sign him permanently: he's been great since he's come to us.
-
I love this fella, can we keep him?
Him, Konsa and Mings were immense tonight.
-
The celebrating of winning duels and clearances, it's a bit performative and unnecessary innit? Dunno, if it was Blose we'd laugh.
-
You miserable git, eamonn.
-
Just listen to him on French tv canal plus.
He said that he will take everything he is given with us even playing RB. He is enjoying himself and wants to show what he is capable of because Aston Villa is a great club.
Nice guy.

Sometimes I think I'm a miserable bloke (I am), then I read comments like that and I feel like a little bluebird you would see in an old Disney film.
-

I love it, personally. Sometimes a goal-saving tackle can be as important as a goal, and should be celebrated as such.
-
I like him.
-
He was absolutely superb today.
Maybe the best defensive performance of the season for any player.
Keep it up big man.

Paul McGrath used to do the baseball home run gesture when he had completed a vital tackle/interception.
Hang your head in shame.
-

I'm only trying to give you what you've come to expect
Just another song about single mothers and sex
-
Great performance just shaded by Mings for MOTM . Great to see defenders who can defend first and foremost . They also can pass the ball which is also useful .
-

I think some Chelsea fans were saying he was probably alright at CB but he was played at RB too much at Chelsea, where he was shit. Then he comes here and plays quite well at RB. Is it the position, or is it the club?
Side note - imagine how good Cole Plamer could be in a proper team.

Totally wrong. He showed immense passion and desire for the shirt. We need to sign him up in the summer. A big dominant defender.
-
Our best player today. Loved how much he seemed to enjoy it.
-
I think my main worry was that he was tempting fate and that for all the fist-clenching and chest-bumping, he'd invariably look silly when giving away a penalty which almost happened, twice.
But he played well and it's his birthday week so I'll cut him some slack.

I felt that too. All that high five-ing and chest pumping like he was part of an American football defence team was a bit over the top. As Roy Keane would say “It’s your job”. Still MOTM regardless.
-
I think if he uses it as a self motivational thing to switch on it’s fine. Now he did do a couple of clumsy things for the penalty shouts, which he needs to be better at. But overall very good and contributed to our second clean sheet in 3 games which is huge.
-
Yeah I thought the one where he slipped was a penalty. Played very well all told though.
-
It’s just his way:

Didn't Cash get to the ball first? Otherwise would have been a pen?

He did but that doesn’t mean it cannot be a penalty.

Whether the action has stopped the attacker from getting the ball is part of the decision making. The argument is that Cash’s touch meant the attacker wasn’t going to get to the ball.

Exactly. 50/50 for me. If it had been given I doubt it would have been overturned.
-
I like seeing defenders celebrating key interceptions and tackles.
-
Best player yesterday and certainly doesnt seem to have a problem with motivation does he!
-
Would you sign and if so, what value?
-
Would you sign and if so, what value?
Yes. He cost Chelsea nearly 40m and he's 27 this week. Hopefully get him for 30m.
-
He had a great game, just needs to watch those sliding lunges in the box , a better winger exploits that , albeit they were last ditch blockages so you could argue he had no choice .
Cracking tackle on Cash too ;)
-
Would you sign and if so, what value?
Not yet. But if he carries on like this then yes.
Dunno what price, wouldn't go higher than 30ish though.
-
Hold your horses, let's see if he's still suckin' diesel over the next couple of months before blowing our beans on him.
