Just heard on the radio , sports brand Le Coq Sportif have filled for bankruptcy. Made some famous kits down the years including our finest hour.
-
That's a shame. An iconic brand before the Nike-ification of the football kit business. File alongside Admiral.

The cock shall crow no more.

This South African article sheds some light on the situation where hopefully the UK / EU headline writers have been too hasty in pouring in on Le Coq's demise.

Best kits we’ve ever had. Not a bad one amongst them, all iconic…quite why the club didn’t/wouldn’t organise decent remakes is a mystery.
-
Glad I bought a couple of classics of that fella on Instagram now.

Me too !! They’re great as well. 82 and 84 away kits are awesome.
-
Great kit makers.
-
As youngster in the early 80's, I loved all the Le Coq kits.
-
Great back in the day but there output these days is very Sports Direct. I suspect they over stretched on their Olympics offering.

The boots were great, very comfortable but did not last a season.

This is from Yahoo
Le Coq Sportif, the iconic French sportswear brand, has recently filed for bankruptcy and entered judicial receivership. The Paris Commercial Court has granted a six-month observation period to facilitate the company’s restructuring efforts. This move aims to address the brand’s financial challenges while safeguarding the jobs of its 330 employees and numerous indirect positions.
Despite reporting a 30% increase in sales during the first half of 2024, with revenues reaching €82 million, Le Coq Sportif faced widening losses amounting to €18.2 million, up from €10.5 million in the same period the previous year. The company attributes these losses to substantial investments in marketing and sales, which have significantly impacted its operations.
Founded in 1882, Le Coq Sportif has a storied history in sports apparel, particularly in tennis, rugby, cycling and, of course, soccer. Although not as well-known as PUMA, Adidas, Umbro and Nike, it was still a force in the industry back in the late ’70s through early ’90s. Seventeen different nations have sported a Le Coq kit, and eighty different clubs.
The article then features 2 "iconic" shirts.

In Monaco we bumped into the fella who sells the Henson retro kits and tracky tops. I didn’t realise that they are genuine Henson remakes, I thought they were counterfeit/rip off like the Le Coq remakes.

The New Balance boots I had in the early 90's were like that, like wearing slippers but they'd fall apart.

I watched a match with a team playing in an Admiral kit only last week. It may have been Dag & Red v Millwall in the FA Cup.

Admiral do a nice range of sweatshirts and stuff these days.

Bought a lovely sweatshirt in their sale at the start of last year - with the trendy waistband logo missing! Gave me huge Castore vibes.

Yeah, he's a mate of a mate. I thought resurrecting the Henson stuff wasn't the greatest of business ideas but I got the impression the license wasn't that expensive. Still shit gear mind.

Apparently the old fella at Henson that he dealt with was at Henson when we had the original kit from them.

I presume this is knock-off but its been doing the rounds as a "rejected third kit" ?
