Great to see you back, Footy :)

Premier League: it's a funny season and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up anywhere between 2nd to 8th.  I think 4th/5th/6th is most likely though.

FA Cup: 3rd round 4th round

Champions League: I'm feeling very positive.  Quarter finals at least, maybe further.

But yeah...

Not quite, finished eleventh (though out of 22, so still just about top half) and made the Fifth Round of the FA Cup... knocked out by Tottenham so that bit has a chance of repeating itself.

Title: Re: Forecasting League, Europe and Cup
Post by: Drummond on February 04, 2025, 12:13:37 PM
I was going to start a new thread before realising this was here.

So, 24 games in, 14 left. We're 8th in the table on 37 points, 4 points from a highly likely Champions League spot, 6 points from a definite one, 10 points from 3rd and a whopping 19 points from the top of the table.

We've made some great signings and raised the quality and depth of the squad.

Over the past five seasons the following totals got 4th and 5th place respectively.

         4th      5th
23/24 68 and 66 Points
22/23 71 and 67
21/22 71 and 69
20/21 67 and 66
19/20 66 and 62
18/19 71 and 70
17/18 75 and 70
16/17 76 and 75
15/16 66 and 66
14/15 70 and 64

So will we make it? 2 points a game from here would get us to 65, which would have been enough for 4th on no occasions in the past 10 years and 5th only twice. The average for 5th over that 10 years is 67.5 points and for 4th it's 70.1. To get to the former we'd need 2.18 points per game and latter we'd need 2.36ppg. We have to balance that the Premier League is tougher this season and potentially a lower points total will be enough for 4th and 5th but there are teams in good form.

We're 8th in the Champions League, and play Dortmund, Bruges, Sporting or Atalanta in the last 16 and projected for the winners of the Liverpool or Barcelona teams in the last 8.

We're at home v Spurs in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Sunday and likely to be drawn away against ManU in the 5th Round.

I like us to finish 4th or 5th in the league but I wonder what positions take europe
Maybe it goes down to 7th or 8th place?

Winning either domestic Cup I think would mean Europa League football qualification so I think that gives extra league places further down league if already in top 6?

Champions League forecasting knock out round 16 to go through over two legs

Inter - very impressive side potential champions for me and on other side of the draw . A Villa Inter final?

Dortmund

Arsenal

Barcelona

PSG I think will win through against Liverpool.
Premier league leaders to be found out

Bayern Munich just

Atletico Madrid I think a lot depends on how match goes tonight as away first but they definitely have it in them to beat Real over two legs and I wouldn't be surprised .
They'll be all sorts of drama in that one.

Title: Re: Forecasting League, Europe and Cup
Post by: Footy-Vill on March 04, 2025, 10:30:07 AM
I see Inter Milan are going to the final and would tip them or PSG to win the whole thing- without a Villa bias.

I predicted a semi final exit for Villa earlier in year.
Though I like to think anything could happen.

If Villa were not in competition I would say same old teams semi final!

PSG v Atletico Madrid (maybe Real I suppose but I think Atletico)
Bayern Munich v Inter Milan

I rather see Villa play overseas opposition in this as it's a European tournament but I suppose could end up playing Liverpool then Arsenal in quarters and semi!

And have to say in last 5 seasons PSG have been in the final once and semi finals twice so it’s quite a task though for my forecast of Villa semi finals!

The final would be devastating, but you'd take that all day wouldn't you.

I'm hoping we can scab through PSG and Arsenal somehow do Real Madrid. We have a serious chance then. What are we to reach the final? Approx 9s or 10s? Feels about right.

Just checked. 9s and 10s mainly, but couple of bookies offering 12/1.

With a fair wind we can do PSG. I think they've been overblown because they've turned over a shit Man City and a rapidly declining Liverpool. They still finished 15th in the group stage, even with mitigation of a tough draw and having improved since, it's not exactly something to be running scared from.

Said all season we'll finish 7th so sticking by that as feels like we've left a little too much to do now to finish 5th even if we have a decent end. Relying on too many above us to all lose form significantly.

Quarter finals feels our natural end in the CL but I have a feeling we'll give PSG far more of a difficult game than the neutrals are predicting. Many would've been happy to draw them in the knockouts three months back.

FA Cup....I think we play the final this year.

I forecasted Villa to win FA Cup reach semi finals of Champions League and finish 4/5
I also predicted all but one of the european champions league quarter finalists however I was wrong forecasting these FA Cup quarter finals .

Part of that was of preference for winners though but still not so good on forecasting on the weekend occasion! in fact completely pathetic as didn’t get one correct.

That said I’m risk and reward as prepared to share here and have a go which not many or any did on the quarter finals.
so i can give myself some credit for at least trying.

No need for terse language
I don’t need to predict Villa as said since at least January would win a trophy and since January it would be the FA Cup.
I knew we beat Preston .
I was merely forecasting the other ties . which i grossly misjudged due to the teams i didn’t fancy Villa playing that would impact my forecast of saying Villa would win the FA Cup.

I have a strong feeling like I felt would finish 4th last season and correctly said that .

I predict a streaker during the FA Cup final. Haven’t had one for ages. A man with his knob out. Not a woman.
Must we descend into such filth ?

I think yourll find activists and protestors are the pitch intruders that’s why haven’t seen what you want to see. Man or Woman.

Any person who get naked does so on the internet to take part in ill moral activities there’s no need for naked parades at Wembley.

Not sure if cycling is an ill-moral activity.

Also wasn't being self-conscious and wanting to wear clothes one of the "knowledges" that got humanity kicked out of Eden. So surely the sin is wanting people to wear clothes and cover themselves up in public, and the ones not doing that are doing Gods work?

Think we might batter these today.

Performance of the season incoming 4-0.

COYL
Like this forecast!!

I’m convinced and saying for a while and forecast we’ll hit a team for 6 this season! Hopefully youre right it’s a good score today as be wonders for goal difference!

I do think likely candidates of remaining games are Southampton away or Spurs home last match of season. Should have had 6 against spurs in the FA Cup.

But a beating today or of Newcastle at home by this sort of 4-0 score line will take!

UTV!!
