Title: Electronic Ticketing for the First Time
Post by: alanclare on December 05, 2024, 09:18:18 AM
I’m new to electronic ticketing. I have bought 2 tickets for the Man City game for grandson and self, created a Google wallet on my Android phone, and downloaded them into it. What happens when I get to the turnstile. I can see how to create the Qcode for each ticket. Can I show one ticket, enter, then pass the phone back to my grandson so he can get in. How does it work?

Please, please, can anyone help?

Exactly that - one of you goes through and then passes it back to the next person - or do it for your nipper through the turnstile.

Yep, scan your kids one in first, send them through then select yours and scan that. No need to try to pass the phone back and forth then.

(assumptions made on you being young enough for a child as a grandkid of course).

Technically you dont even need the QR code if you use NFC.

Swipe down from the top of your screen a couple of times so you get all the options to turn on and off data, mobile hotspots etc.  There should be one there for NFC.  Make sure thats switched on, and when you get to the turnstile open the ticket and you can just tap it against the top of the reader.

Thank you all. I’m much relieved. I must find out what NFC stands for.

I am truly grateful.

NFC. Is that the same as “Mobile Hotspot”? If I turn that on it tells me to turn off Wi-Fi, which I wouldn’t be using anyway.

NFC means “Near Field Communication”. It’s basically the signal the ticket in your wallet transmits to the reader at the turnstile. You shouldn’t need to turn anything on or off.

Near Field Communication. It will be turned on by default when the wallet is opened so you won't need to do anything. Works within the foot of the reader and is how you can pay with phones or debit cards when tapping only.

If it doesn't work for any reason then the stewards are switched on these days and will help you out.  Like they did with me when I got wound up trying to get in the other day.  They helpfully pointed out I had selected last season's season ticket :-[

Although not so much when they told that 91 year old to fuck off home as he wasn't getting in*

*slight exaggeration.
