Unai's Villa lose 3 successive games as often as we win 3 in a row at Spurs. 2-0 to the Villa boys, and celebratory beers aplenty in Bruges.

Yep I’m oddly confident on this one. I’m not for the game that follows it.

Wish i was going, been to Brussels and Antwerp with work over the years, but never Brugges. Will get some Leffe in to have during the match, although last time in a lovely quirky cafe bar in Brussels, a ridiculously good looking bar waiter, told me Leffe was a beer for children, which after already having had several amazing Belgian beers, I wasn’t in the slightest bit offended by.

2-1 us hopefully (Watkins, Tielemans).

Brugges is very nice fantastic food and ale , Brussells not so easy on the eye but still decent nosh, and go see the boy pissing foutain and that weird sculpture if you get time . anyway -

--------- Martinez ---------
Cash Konsa Mings Digne
---- Kamara - Onana ----
Tielemans---------- Ramsey
--- Rogers ---- Watkins ---

A win and top of the ECL would certainly lift the spirits . UTV

Better that the game is at 5.45pm so the boys can get home and rest before Liverpool on Sat. Also means more drinking time for the Villa fans celebrating the win in Bruges.

They've won 3 out of 7 home league games this season. It's neither or fortress or a cauldron of noise loud enough to scare McGinn. We should beat these and qualify for the next round.

Good test for us, assume Cash is out so that horrid setup with Konsa at RB will return. If he does then Maatsen can push up on other side. I think Emery will play Torres to get Sunday out of his system but Mings can't be far off another start. Kamara to return and Tielemans further forward for a change, Rogers unlikely to be fully fit.

Onana, Kamara

The horrid set-up responsible for most of our clean sheets and outstanding results over the last eighteen months? Why do you prefer a defence that concedes more goals? I mean, I like other teams conceding more goals, but not my own.

It’s like listening to Frank Lampard’s analysis yesterday, when he said we were hit on the break, despite the goal being replayed in front of his eyes, showing we had ten men behind the ball at the time.

I suppose people who don’t know what they’re looking at watch football sometimes. At least you don’t get paid.

Had a stag weekend in Bruges a few years back. Totally not the place for that type of event.... same as 3/4k pissed up Brummies descending on it!

Loads of us will be making the journey with no ticket, so the hardest thing is going to be finding somewhere with a tv to watch the game - That central square is not gonna know what hit it over the next couple of days!

I suppose people who don’t know what they’re looking at watch football sometimes. At least you don’t get paid.

Our defensive structure fell apart yesterday when the much maligned Matty Cash went off, so it's an odd time to be blowing your own trumpet as it were. We were like a pub team for that second goal yesterday, Torres running out into no man's land, Konsa caught behind the line at RB. The Bournemouth equaliser, not organised at front post. Ipswich, pitiful defensive display throughout against relegation fodder. We were rubbish at the back for most of the second half of last season too, Torres form collapsed and Carlos was being his usual self most games so this isn't new, despite the narrative you keep pushing. The defence hasn't been good enough for ages.

I think Emery can start addressing this by going back to basics on Wednesday night by putting Kamara and Mings back into the spine of the team.

Since Konsa got his England caps i think he's gone a bit comfortable , didn't like him laughing and joking on the pitch with their nr 9 either after full time at 1-4 . Please do that down the tunnel or in China White later .

Poor for first two goals anyway. Constantly changing position isn't helping but his form has been a bit mixed so far this season for sure. McGinn and Bailey obviously struggling too. Though I thought Bailey did ok when he came in on Sunday.

Watkins is the one for me that needs a rocket more than most. He's had a petted lip from early on this season with Duran pushing him hard. We are a club competing in the CL with a top young striker in reserve, needs to get it into his head and quickly that last season is history now and he needs to improve his attitude asap. He can watch Duran on Wednesday for starters.

In danger of dragging myself into the RB de ja vu debate, but Cash was on the field and partly at fault for the Bournemouth goal.
Also Torres fell apart a bit yesterday, but the idea his form ‘fell apart’ in the second half if last season, is a gross exaggeration.

Cash/Duran made a mess of their positions. I just think Mings is very good at getting us organised back there.
Torres was very poor after his injury last season, think it was around February. Sure Kamara was a big loss but Torres struggled more than even Luiz.

Off on a Beano to Brugge tonight and thoroughly looking forward to it.

In terms of the game, the ability to bounce back is a hallmark of the Manager's time with us so I have confidence despite the weekend's events.
A draw would be acceptable and likely if you look at the law of averages. Whatever I'm looking at tomorrow, it's likely to be rather out of focus but fuck it, we'll win.

A quick glance at the Bruges squad list, they've got former Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet in goal and former Man City and Celtic never-was Dedryck Boyata in defence.

Nobody else jumped out as players we might have come across before.

Tzolis played for Greece against England at Wembley and Skov Olsen is a regular in the Denmark squad; Nilsson plays for Sweden but is injured.
Mignolet should play, but Boyata hasn't played this season.

We have had a bad week but a win here should nearly guarantee knockout CL football. 5 wins to be sure of a top 8 spot seems to be the target, 4/4 would nearly have us there.

Absolutely and if qe qualify quickly we can see a bit more rotation in CL and focus on league as we really need to improve in the league as beens pretty poor recently

True, I wonder if that is down to his all action style where he throws himself into everything and races about like a dog after birds in the park.

There's a cracking cellar bar called le Trappiste. Amazing beers in a bit of a cavern.

Bumped into Adil Ray in there last night, lovely place.

Gutted not to be there. Had to cancel last minute due to unforseen circumstances as they say. Seen plenty of videos and pics. Ian Taylor following the boys as usual and happily posing for pics. Would be fantastic to get a win and virtually guaranteed knockout stages but a draw wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm going for a 2-1 win for the Villa boys with Ollie finding his form and netting at least once.

The biggest issue with Cash in my opinion, is the sheer number of injuries he seems to pick up. He never seems to stay fit for more than 3 or 4 games at a time.
Since 1995-96 outfield players who have played in all 38 league games for the season:
Agbonlahor 2006-07 (37 starts + 1 sub)
Barry 2008-09 (38)
Bouma 2007-08 (38)
Buendia 2022-23 (27+11)
Cash 2021-22 (38)
Diaby 2023-24 (25+13)
Downing 2010-11 (38)
Ehiogu 1996-97 (38)
Konsa 2022-23 (37+1)
Laursen 2007-08 (38)
Mellberg 2002-03 (38), 2006-07 (38)
Merson 2000-01 (38)
Samuel 2002-03 (33+5), 2003-04 (38)
Southgate 1998-99 (38)
Targett 2020-21 (38)
Wright 1995-96 (38), 1996-97 (38), 1998-99 (38)

Not to sound all Klopp-like, but boy did we get screwed with the fixtures.  Played Spuds on Sunday, giving them an extra 24 hours to recover after the City game.  Then play Wednesday and Saturday away at Liverpool.  Meanwhile, Liverpool play Sat-Tue-Sat.

Meh, excuses, excuses. We rested everybody against Palace, put in a stinker, then played the rested players against Spurs, who responded by also putting in a stinker. There's another international break soon, anyway.

Agreed Risso. Ok to rotate 2 or 3 players at a time but not virtually the whole team in one go. It simply doesn’t work.

That was dreadful. Considering the time distribution started there was a queue all through and quite long at 2.15ish with average wait of 30 mins. Poor show by Villa staff.

Doesn’t help when our friends who booked with Sportsbreak the Official club travel had a separate queue which took half the time.

I queued for about an hour at just before 12 until just before 1 when I got my ticket. Not brilliant but not too bad but need more than 3 people at the tables distributing.

On skylinewebcams.com you can see quite a lot of our supporters making their way to the game from Bruge's Market Square, though many seem to be heading off in all different directions. It's curiously enjoyable to watch, if you have nothing to do.
