Post by: olaftab on October 23, 2024, 08:12:18 AM
OK, time to move on to the next challenge.
When: Saturday 26 October Kick off 15:00
Where: Villa Park, B6
Bournemouth are in very good form and for me training our next Manager. Semenyo is a very very good player. It's going to be tough.

Bournemouth are a decent side, IMO. Be interesting to see whether Digne and Watkins return or whether he sticks with yesterday's team.

I'm returning to Villa Park after my one match, cost related boycott last night and thoroughly looking forward to it. A lot of that is because it's a Sat 3pm KO meaning you can add the social side to attending the match without midweek time constraints or Sunday depression.

Bournemouth are indeed a tough prospect and our last post Europe match was dismal in every aspect. I can't envisage that this time though, last night was more measured and assured. Add to that the impact of having a full squad to pick from and we really should be too strong. Team selection has now become  fascinating rather than predictable and the in game subs also of great interest given the strength of our bench.

We'll concede, but will win.

2-1

Our season has been great so far but we had a poor performance after Bayern. Can we improve against Bournemouth? After this there are some tough fixtures incoming.

In particular whether Cash, Ollie, Onana, Bailey, Digne, Ramsay start.

Id be tempted to keep the same team other than Watkins for Duran. It would be harsh on Digne but Maatsen was highly impressive yesterday and im getting pretty sold of the Carlos Torres partnership with Konsa at RB/extra CB.

Bailey got a bit of stick over in the Bologna thread, but i saw a player last night, trying really hard but lacking confidence, I so wish that first time shot minutes into the second half had crept in.  He is quality, we’ve seen that more or less since Unai came in, so it will return and Id keep him in because of that.

I’d be tempted to keep Onana in, but bringing in Barclay from the start is tempting.

They are dangerous and I think they will score, mainly because of what they bring to the table as opposed to what we don’t.
I think/hope the villa train to league glory rumbles on though. 3-1 us (Watkins, Bailey, Rogers).

I like the Onana start Barkley replacement option as latter has proven adept at closing out games or creating stuff. Barkley and Kamara likely to start  v Palace.

I suppose an eye on Wed so Digne with Maatsen Wed or vice versa.

Konsa RB seems better v good teams with Carlos middle. Ramsey ahead of Bailey for me and Ollie for Duran.

We really need to win this, with the next 2 away to Spurs and Liverpool. I remember Watkins last minute header at Bournemouth last season, set us up nicely to beat the cheats and Arsenal in the following games.

Let's keep the momentum.

2-0 to the Villa.

Watkins to return to the side and bag a brace.

(Hope Konsa continues at RB, as it seems to be our best chance of a clean sheet.)

I’m glad people are starting to notice this, but hopefully this is one of those less demanding games where Cash can be trusted not to do too much damage.

I recall we conceded a penalty in this fixture last season so without looking it up I’m guessing he played?

Cant recall their pen in the first game, but Cash did a classic Cash clatter into one of theirs in the first half at VP and Solanke slotted the pen away to put them one up.

I really like Cash, for all the rough and tumble of it all, but this, unfortunately is why he gives away too many pens and can be a liability at times.

I like his energy and whole-hearted spirit. Good rotation option in home games when the RB has a chance to get forward.

It’s the prospect of him playing in the big games that worries me.

This game is another marker for me. A brilliant win away in the PL followed by a memorable Champions league night under the lights. All the accolades that followed (yes Villa Tim even motd were falling over themselves to praise us) and now a seemingly routine game against a dangerous Bournemouth side at 3pm. Can they keep up the standards now the bar has been reset at a much higher level? I think Unai will have a bit of a shake up to freshen things now he's got the luxury of a fully fit squad to choose from. The crowd will also have a part to play. We have to raise our bar too now and keep up with the players. Let's hope we can pull together and keep makung fortress Villa Park a place where opposition clubs fear to tread.

Apparently Alex Scott* and Sinisterra are out for them.

Quote
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on Alex Scott who has undergone surgery this week: "He felt after training this week that his knee was blocked. We did an MRI and they could see it was in the meniscus. We decided to have the surgery and lucky for him the surgery could repair his meniscus, even if it means he will be out for a little bit more time."

On Luis Sinisterra: "He came with some hamstring issues after the break. He could play the game and continue training but there was a moment this week where he felt he could not continue. It does not look like something big, it may be a matter of just one week. He is definitely out for tomorrow though, yes."

If there were thousands of seats available, you could say the pricing is wrong.

But a few hundred, mostly single seats across the whole stadium and having sold most of the returned Bournemouth sections.

Looking at the Palace game on Weds, you could argue the prices are wrong because I doubt we'll get 20k or perhaps people simply aren't interested in the game whatever the price.

They're the cheapest league tickets of the season, and nearly every home ticket had been sold before Bournemouth returned half of their allocation ten days ago.

I have no beef with Bournemouth, but 11K home attendances and less than half away allocation take up is  piss poor in this age of the best league in the world.

Makes it look even worse when you see some of the crowds the championship pull in - even the dog shitters are getting 26+k each week in the 3rd div

I couldn’t get three together, and searched long and hard for two together. This puts me in the position of having to take one child tomorrow and the other one on Wednesday to avoid accusations of favouritism.

Meaning that, much as I’d love to spend time with Wifey, I now have to go to the Villa twice instead 😉

I reckon this be a hard fought 2-1 Villa win. Bournemouth are no mugs as proven by their relatively comfortable 2-0 victory over Arsenal, even though the gunners were reduced to 10 men with Saliba's red card last week.

Just visited the Cherries message board. They seem pretty confident of getting a result today. Villa not been tested to date in league, fatigue after Champions League etc.

They are on a high after Arsenal win. We have to be careful here.

Reckon Unai will demand a win after the Ipswich lapse.

2-0 to the Villa.

Bournemouth are a more than decent side, and play some nice football. Their manager looks very promising, seems to know what he is doing.

Given the above, I reckon this will be a tougher match than most in the league, we're going to need to be at our best.

7-0
