Title: Fulham v Aston Villa Pre Match
Post by: olaftab on October 14, 2024, 06:02:38 PM
OK time for silliness of international football and other stuff to stop and concentration on the most important matter in hand. That being the Villa's next match.

When: Saturday 19 October Kick off 3:00PM
Venue: Craven Cottage

Fulham are doing very well this season based on a very solid start. They were very unlucky to come away from the ManCity game empty handed. However hopefully with our injured players coming back we can repeat our result there last season.

Basically Arsenal 2.0 with a couple of ex Wolves forwards thrown in. I think the game may suit us as I don't see them sitting back.

Agree with this. Think it'll be a draw which would be fine if we'd won the last 2 games, but we didn't.

Yep a draw isnt good after the last two

We conceded sloppy goals against them last season when we were in control of the games. Would be nice to see Carlos be part of another clean sheet and show them what Fulham missed-out on.

A draw away at Fulham would be a good result imo. Would love to see a few back and desperate for Bailey to get going this season.

Thank you for the thread.

So just to repeat Fulham won 2 drawn one at home this season
Beat Newcastle 3-1 in last home match.
Former Villa man Adama and nearly villa man Smith Rowe are form players providing goals and assists and Raul seems to be in form scoring 4 already this season

I didn’t realise you were doing 2 Fulham pre-match chats on here for the mighty Fulham!! the other one was talking about your forthcoming game against Bologna as well, what I said there was I think Emery and Silva are top class manager/coaches, Emery took you from the edge of the relegation zone to the champions league with the majority of players that struggled under Stevie G, and when Silva got us promoted the so called experts thought we would struggle, but had a good mid-table finish, and we’ve managed last season losing Mitrovic and this season losing Palhinha, our recruitment this season has been good, hopefully another good season top ten and maybe push for Europe, be nice to get to the FA cup final for the first time in 50 years!!

Yes its been a solid start for you, it looks like Jimenez is getting back to his Wolves form. I am expecting a very tough game on Saturday and a few beers in the Sloany Pony.
All the best.

That's been pleasing to see though I hope he has a poor game on Sat. He seems to look younger now than in his Wolves days, but I suppose living in Wolverhampton can do that to people.

What are your thoughts on Adama Traroe?
He has the potential to be world class but hasn't fulfilled that however seems to have started this season very well and is a handful for any defender.

I think has been good so far this season, he was injured most of last season, if could improve his finishing  and final ball he would be brilliant, i suppose now he’s 28 that not going to happen I suppose if has a really good season for us one of the big clubs might come in for him

Thanks for the view and insights. Traroe said Guardiola talked to him about his finishing after your last game at Man City

"After the game he came up to me to tell it was a good game, he gave me some pointers on how to finish the chances I had against them. I met him at Barca. When I arrived at Aston Villa I also had a call with him and he has always been friendly"

I've always been fascinated by Traroe because really he can be unstoppable and think he needs the right coach to take his game on.

Anyways enjoy the match and may the best team win!

Typically Villa, from what I’m reading, it’ll be 1 coming back from injuries and 2 unavailable through injuries. From what I’ve seen of Fulham this season, anything other than a loss would be a positive for us.

I get so browned off with the international break, the prospect of a Championship game on the Friday fills me with excitement so you can imagine how thrilled I am about us playing on Sat.

League form for us has been a little frustrating so we really do need to get back on track in London. We do have players coming back and the manager will chomping at the bit for the win but I see a third draw in a row, albeit accompanied by a good performance. I also see goals.

2-2

They are looking decent this season. Himinez was a top quality forward at Wolves before his injury and seems to be on the road back there. Smith-Rowe is decent, but of we play like we can we should manage the likes of Iowbi and Traore.
Still, I’d probably tale a draw down there, but will let my heart rule the head and go 2-1 us (Watkins, Tielemans).
Not sure what the craic is on injuries, but presuming Ramsey, Konsa and McGinn are out, I’d go with:

Martinez
Cash
Carlos
Torres
Digne
Onana
Tielemans
Bailey
Watkins
Rogers
Bidace

I'm convinced Traroe is going to cause some issues. Basically he's going to score or assist. It's been on my mind. It's irks me as he saves his performance to do something against us when he should have scored several against Man City.

Is it his 13 goals in 6 years that has you rattled? I think he's got 1 assist against us in that time, back when Matt Targett was left back. He might score of course, but his record doesn't suggest getting prematurely irked about it.

Not when it's Adama Traore it isn't.

While I'm not hugely concerned about Traore, I do wonder whether you might be angering Paddy's footballing Gods a little here with your hubris.

Not sure what try with us means.

Doesn’t sound like it means a fitness test.

We will see?

Its travel with not try.

"They are getting better. [Boubacar] Kamara and [Tyrone] Mings are available, they are going to travel with us to Fulham.

[John] McGinn is training this week normally with us and feeling good. [Ezri] Konsa and Jadon [Philogene] as well are feeling good. It is the first time this year where more or less we have everyone available.

[Amadou] Onana is okay as well. It's good news."

Up The Villa!

An attacking player scoring or assisting is always a very distinct possibility.

So its positive of all our players, and will try not to think so much more of Traroe,  but ita great to hear the players are feeling good! Making me feel good!

I reckon the Gods of logic and reason, who lets be fair are not having a great time of it of late, are going to see this issue as some sort of tipping point and will be spurred into action, countering those notoriously flaky footballing ones.

With a fully fit squad Unai has some interesting choices to make. Too early for Mings and Kamara, I would think, but encouraging for the next couple of weeks.

Four wins is a big ask - but it would really set the season up. Even unbeaten in the next four games, including a couple of wins, would be great.

Would be nice to be a few goals up against either Bologna or Bournemouth and give them both (particularly Mings) five minutes at the end of the game to get a bit of a clap.

Wouldn't rush Kamara, let's ease him back in. That subs bench with Ned and Philogene added would hold its own in the Premier League.

1-2 to the villa.

Getting excited now. This this will be a cracking game and decided  by which manager picks the best starters and finishers.

We have a fantastic squad now and a genius at the helm.

Come on you Villa boys...big win required

Jhon Duran's formidable goalscoring form off the bench is close to earning him a start: "I am thinking with how he is progressing how important it is for him to start these matches. Maybe tomorrow or maybe in the next games we play."

I think if he wasn't coming back from South America, Durán would be starting. I can see him starting against Bologna.

If only this was one of those brilliant joint match threads where we could discuss such things. I bet they have three matches at once on RAWK, we can't afford to get left behind.

Tried to get a couple of tickets for this but failed miserably. It's normally a good albeit pricey away day.

1-2. Ollie with two. Senderos for them.

The first time this season we have most of the squad available, and both sides to like play attacking football.

I usually say in pre-match threads that both teams wills score.
0-0.

I had this as a draw in the poll but with the news of our squad back to full strength I’m thinking a win for us 1-3  ok they might not take any part in this game but having them back on the coach and in the dressing room must be a massive lift for the manager, the squad and us.

In the league, apart from Arsenal this will be the best side, we've met so far by some distance. They were unlucky not to get a point at Man City and in their last home match, they tore Newcastle apart, also Jimenez looks like he's back to his best. It has the making of a cracking game, I'm going 3-3.

I've seen them another couple of times where they've looked decent but nothing to be worried about.

So come on Villa, give us a big performance today please!
