Title: Walking from Villa Park to Bodymoor Heath for Aston Villa Foundation!
Post by: Dogtanian on June 05, 2024, 06:56:59 PM
We are taking part in a walk from Villa Park to the training ground in order to raise money for the Aston Villa Foundation on the 15th June!

The money will go towards providing mental health support in the local area.

It’s a 14 mile walk, taking approximately 6 hours! So if you would like to sponsor us, please give what you can on the link below:

Thankyou!

Bunged you a tenner, mate, good luck. You might have got more if you hadn't waited until season ticket renewal time to request the cash!

You don't look how I'd imagined you, always assumed you'd be less dragony.

The dragon look does tend to turn a few heads.  8)

I'm assuming walk to the canal at spaghetti and then walk along that until the Waterpark?

Well that route I mentioned is on 10 miles so it might be totally different. The canal route does work out as about 14 or so if you factor in the Duddeston Loop. Good luck anyway.

Yeah, when we googled it the distance was 10 miles, so much have been that route. But the organisers say 14 miles, so I guess we must be doing the scenic one!

I have donated. However, I do think that 22 km on a fairly flat surface can be done in under 6 hours so sort it out Dog T!

Cheers! I am a bit worried about having to slow to the others pace as me and my mate are very fast walkers, so hopefully we won't have to dawdle.

They’ve not confirmed the actual route, so I guess we will find out in the morning.

They can also get on at the Swan and Mitre. We walked from there to the Dog and Doublet along there during lockdown. It's a loooong walk!

Well, we are having lunch in Sutton Coldfield, so I don’t think we are going by the canal.

Depends if they mean the town or the district. You might take some of the route via Witton lakes to Sutton Park, then to Sutton centre. After that might be country lanes OR public paths to skirt the Belfry and on to BM. You can then look at the new Hotel there for the players.

The way it came down in Sutton from about 10am to 1130, it might have been a sponsored swim.

Haha, thanks everyone!

Yeah, was torrential for a while, got absolutely soaked through. Home now, showered, cuppa, and waiting on a curry arriving.

That was hard. In total we’ve walked over 15 miles. It was harder because of having to slow down and make stops for slower walkers, and for frequent breaks.

My fella got very blistered feet and was really struggling, but he got to the end. It didn’t help that a wanker in a car covered him in head to toe speeding through a giant puddle.  :(

That would be my problem as well. I find it bad enough having to slow down for the Mrs.

I once did a long charity walk to raise money for a lad at Birmingham Children's Hospital that went through a busy Birmingham City centre... dressed as Bugs Bunny. Not one of those proper mascot costumes either, the shit ones where you can see your face and you have his decapitated head resting on your own. Had fun with it though, I was a big Jackass fan at the time (I'm a moron) so was doing Party Boy dancing around a confused public. Anyway... what you dressing as? 😀

Our fancy dress was just the ‘Slimer’ 2012/13 away kit. Nathan Baker was at Bodymoor to welcome us and the first thing he said to me was ‘oh god, I remember those kits’.  ;D

I couldn’t do any dancing. My balls got so cold and wet that it was horrible when they touched my leg, so definitely wasn’t doing any jiggling!

Yeah, me and my mate are really fast walkers, but the fella isn’t. Towards the end, the organisers were saying we were gonna slow down the pace even more, and my mate was just telling her we should just crack on!
