Title: A few days in Athens
Post by: Russ aka Big Nose on May 26, 2024, 05:53:03 PM
I imagine there are a few people, like me, that are heading to Athens for a few days this week.

I'd be interested in knowing if there are any bars or venues that are being suggested for people to meet up. UTV

I'm flying out tomorrow afternoon with the wife and kids. But we've turned it into a family city break for half term.  I don't even want to watch the final. Couldn't bring myself too it. It's been a really busy season and a busy period at work so this break has come at the ideal time

Decided to follow the planned train route to Milan (Wales > London > Paris > Basel > Lugano > Milan), then rather than go to Athens, do an about turn and go Milan > Tirano > Bellinzona > Zurich > Interlaken > Jungfraujoch > Interlaken > Basel > Paris, then off to Disneyland for the final with the kids.

Was quite emotional in a way coming on that train from Lugano to Milan thinking had the semi gone the other way this would be the start of an adventure through Italy proper. But fuck it, got some Appenzeller lager and went on the Bernina express and up 3 separate alps with my trusty 30yr old Villa scarf so it was pretty good anyway.

Sounds great. I'd be well up for that.

Had four days in Athens last week....a wonderful city and very welcoming people. There were three types of visitors; Americans, Italians and Villans. Bumped into claret and blue travellers everywhere we went. Watched the final in the Sports Bar not far from the Acropolis and adorned with a "Greek Lions" flag.

We had a great time - though only two days as my eldest lad took his driving test on Tuesday lunchtime (and passed) meaning a very late flight from Heathrow.

We saw Villains everywhere around Athens and we watched the game in the James Joyce (Irish Bar) with several hundred other Villa fans. UTV
