Title: Birmingham Senior Cup final
Post by: dave.woodhall on May 15, 2024, 07:51:12 PM
2-0 after 20 minutes. Kellyman and Borland.

There's almost more stewards than supporters and ridiculously strict segregation.

Also, I fucking hope Dave Cooper is there after his spell, errr, about 12 years ago, going on at General Krulak about it.

This would be our 20th win in the competition, and first one since 1984-85, with the added bonus of us ending our trophy drought. :)

Racing Club Warwick played okay until the first goal, then their keeper had a nightmare and it was 2-0 and downhill from there.

Chris Heck - I hope you were there, because I know it was hardly a major event, but when there are only a few there and still no-one can get served, you’re just shooting yourself in the foot.

And there's more stewards outside than fans, and they're using metal detectors when the crowd is at least half-family groups, and the Warwick supporters were stuck away up a corner, and there's only one catering stand open, and Trinity Road is closed after the match even when it's deserted, and the stewards aren''t letting anyone leave the Holte car park.

The Warwick keeper did well, he just made that almighty ricket for the second. The rest of their team weren't too bad, they're clearly not used to playing on a pitch like that. We struggled in the early rounds and won the final 9-0, which is a bit unusual.

Oh, this was on in Villa Park? Is that usual?

It's been here a couple of times in recent years. Usually it's a case of finding somewhere that will stage it - there's rarely a big crowd unless a league team is playing and even down the pyramid most clubs aren't bothered.

Rumour that Rory Wilson doesn't want to sign a new deal and will leave.

Think Inter were amongst the teams linked with signing him.

Borland got a couple I think though.

I should have quantified at Villa, but the latter as Moore Sr won the FA youth cup I believe.

I've seen our 3rd Division friends taking the piss saying things along the lines of "it's only Racing Club Warwick" especially over the scoreline. They seem blissfully unaware of an earlier match in the competition.

Racing Club Warwick 2-0 Birmingham City

Ah, he was playing, at least in the first half. For the regular watchers, is it going to be a huge loss? Whenever I've seen him he looks a great finisher but his all round game and particularly hold up looks so-so.

I was talking to a friend who is part of B'ham County F A before the match and he said that Warwick were only too glad to be in the final, playing at VP and weren't expecting too much from the game. I doubt that they expected that though.

To their credit, they were fair and didn't try and make it a rough physical game, which basically let the greater skill of the youth team to flourish.

Has anyone mentioned that Dave Bridgwater received recognition as Villa's top volunteer? Well deserved after 60 years of assisting the club in a variety of roles.
