Title: Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers Pre Match
Post by: olaftab on March 26, 2024, 10:39:46 PM
Saturday 30 March 5:30PM
Villa Park.
Time to get moving again with our quest. This will be tough as they are a very useful team but I expect us to come through with 3 points.

1-1

Last time we beat them at home in the Premier League JPA and Allback started. W0 D4 L3 since then.

We really need to get back to beating these lot consistently like we use to.

Spurs have luton which is more or less 3 points so we will need to win this one

Need to win this one really, Luton may do us a favour vs Spurs but we need to win this.

Me and a few mates have paid for the Lower Grounds (Ducks head and prepares to run away) … has anyone else done it and is it any good?

We have done it as it was £60 upgrade on the season ticket so seemed good value as it’s a late kick off

They are a team who rely on pacy county attacks but have Neto and Hwang out. They will defend more and we should have enough. I’m going 2-0. Watkins and Bailey.

I’m usually quite ambivalent about wolves - they’re an oddity more than anything more annoying - I know some on here feel quite a bit more strongly!  But I don’t like their current manager very much and we really need to win so this one feels like a bigger game than usual.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers Pre Match
Post by: Nev on March 27, 2024, 07:35:39 AM
For some reason Wolfs seem to have a bit of a hex over us lately, I was talking to Nodge off of here yesterday and we worked out that the last time we beat them at home in the league was the 4-1 under Bruce (BB toe poke). We never seem to get outplayed or thrashed but even when we do play well we can't seen to convert it into 3 points.
It's time for that to change and ahead of an away game at Stockport 115, the win would be more than welcome. Late KO, boisterous atmosphere, and plenty to play for.

1-0

I think Ramsey being available will be key for this game, if he plays I fancy us, if not I’m worried. The young Wolves wing back Ait-Nouri looked a real handful the other week against Coventry so need to keep a very careful eye on him. They’re going to be missing Neto and probably Hwang so that’s good for us.

No Cash though, although I agree that Digne performed really well at the start of the season in place of Moreno. My Wolvo boss reckons their right side is their weakest side so I can see Moreno doing them if he is on form.

Forgot cash was out. Moreno and rogers together struggled against West ham, wonder if its worth digne playing there with him to help out. Moreno gives us more attacking impetus though, with konsa at right back

Rogers and Diaby are both in form and high confidence so play them.
Zaniolo can come on from 65 mins and be effective. Not ideal but we have a decent squad and Emery will outclass O'Neill . Looking forwards to this game .

Quote
It was around this time that the levels of hysteria around the Kentish Town Road caused a warping of the space/time continuum and I found myself face to face with a version of myself from 15 years earlier, when I'd lived in the area. "Greetings indie legend", said I. "Fuck off sad bell-end", came the reply. I wanted to warn him about the rough times ahead but for some reason he had his coat pulled over his head and wouldn't listen. I left him trying to extricate a punctured Spacehopper from under some rubble in a skip. "He'll find out soon enough", I thought.

And then suddenly I realised that I could no longer breathe.

His new red shoes should do no harm although an old school coach over here once said that "football is to played in black and white (football)shoes" - that was in the nineties when someone in the team he managed came with yellow shoes (not that usual then) and that has no relevance these days but some statement though.

I was always an Adidas World Cup/ Copa Mundial man myself but did buy a ridiculous pair of bright green Nike once, the ones with the laces off to the side, as they were half price. I felt fucking ridiculous wearing them though and went into every game feeling like I deserved a reducer as a result. Plus, they were garbage to wear too, I switched back pretty quickly.

I remember receiving a pair of Alan Ball white boots when I was a kid. Quite radical back in those days. I also remember them being pretty crap to be honest.
I managed to make the Aston Boys school trials and begged my mother to buy me an alternate pair that wasn't so flash. I ended up with a pair of Gola boots from Dick Taylors. Pleased to say that I passed my trial and went on to captain the side. 8)

I’m currently sat on the next table to Jose Sa (Wolves keeper) in a soft play centre in Wombourne. Be a shame if I tumbled, fell on him and broke his fingers.
Are there many Villa in Wombourne? I thought it was wall to wall dogheads from Wall Heath.

I can see us beating Wolves and get back to winning ways 2-1.

Didn't O'Neil burst into tears or something last time we played them because Unai looked at him funny or something on the final whistle?
Yeah refused to shake his hand. Showed a level of immaturity that day. Was funny how Emery just brushed it off though , and rightly so.
There is something very annoying about him, grinning at the question about him being linked with the Manure and Pool jobs.

Yeah it’s pretty much all Wolves, further South you go towards Kingswinford then Stourbridge  you get more of a mix, with plenty Stripeys and Villa.

I've been out of the loop the last few weeks, remind me, is Konsa banned? Or is that in Europe? Or did I make it up? Same question for McGinn.

Only just seeing that Cash is out injured. I know many don't rate him, but it's a position we haven't any real depth in.

McGinn is suspended for tomorrow (and Citeh). Konsa isn't, so may well replace Matty at RB.

For whatever reason I've been and still feel confident about this one , we are better than them in every department even with this players out . Enjoy this one villains .

I don't know what it is about this lot in the years since they had Nuno. Aside from the 4-1 they always seem to have our number.

They will play a low, low block and try to hit us on the counter.
If we score early on, they will have to adapt; otherwise it will be a tortuous evening.
Anyway, we will win.

Likely to be tough game this one. They keep managing to get good results against us.

However, we could really do with a win and be aiming for 9 points in 8 days...

I'd (very) happily take 6 points from the next 3 games. Think it's more likely to be 4 points.

Does seem like a decent time to play Wolves. No Neto, Hwang or Dawson and Cunha in a similar situation to Ramsey, where he could be involved, but not match fit.

Feel strangely confident.

Injury lists for both sides seem fairly equitable. Bit of a bogey side for us of late, fancy it will end up all square.

Hope for 9.
Take 6.
Happy enough with 5 (given what results that means)
Disappointed 4
Worry 3
Gutted any less than 3

An accurate spectrum of points-to-emotion ratio.

Take 6? To be honest I’d be delighted with 6. Today is massive, we really do need to win and ideally play well. It’s never easy against them, but Neto, Hwang, and Dawson are big losses for them. That said, if Cunha is back he’s been good for them. Come on Villa, big performance and result today please.

Really could have done with SJM for this one. I've had 2-2 in my head all week.  A Luiz Penalty and Bailey for us. Bull and Mutch for them.

We've got to be beating Wolves and Brentford at home in the next three games. Anything less probably means we won't be finishing top 4, and depending on what Man U do, might make even top 5 less likely.

Yep.  There will probably be  a couple of surprise results for the teams in the top 6 (see Fulham battering spurs) but now is the time that the teams that finish in the top 4 stop dropping points and start grinding wins out.

Hoping we are close to getting some players back fit after the break. Could have done without Cash getting injured.

Think we will win this one, and we need to with harder games coming up. 2-0 Watkins and Tielemans.

Biggest game of the season so far and absolutely will let us know if we have the chops for the CL. This is the sort of game we would be looking at winning in any case. I think we will, a hard fought 3-1 I'm saying

Me too. But I'm so conditioned to thinking that, I'd probably still think it if we were joint owned by every petro-fascist in the world and had a squad worth a gazillion quid.

It’s like every league game now is massive.
Better than mid table mediocrity or worse checking over our shoulders at the relegation zone I guess.
Might have a pre match nerves pint.

Spurs will almost certainly be above us at the start of this game, and with Citeh away next there’s loads of pressure. Hope we are ready to rise to it.

I can't watch a re-run of the 1982 European Cup Final, for fear that Bayern will score a late equaliser and take the game into ET.
