A variation on a theme/stuck record.

Spot on Dave. It's not a Midland's thing to blow our own trumpet but it's time we started to big up the Villa.
-
Well observed, Mr Woodhall.
-
That's spot on Dave.
-
Totally agree. Under the radar = forever bumping your head on the glass ceiling. It’s way past the time for us to do it.
-
Good stuff Dave.
-
Spot on Dave…far too much looking for an excuse why we don’t / can’t / won’t do something than just going for it and enjoying it
-
That's spot on Dave.
Bless you, Daz.
-
Good read, Dave.

Leeds and Newcastle seem to hold nothing back celebrating their great history, "achievements" and club generally, no matter how well/shit they're doing - and the media go with it 100% - yet they can hardly hold a candle to all that we've done for the last 150 years!
It's a great time to be a Villa fan atm.
Let's enjoy it and shout it loud and proud!
-
Nice work Dave, my chest just inflated 6" reading that! 😉
-
Great piece!
Self deprecation can be admirable but not in football.
We are the Founders!
-
Which is why we need a clear plan for a massive upgrade to Villa Park asap rather than this in, out, shake it all about shit.

Yes and at the location where we made so much history over 125 years and where we should always remain,

I agree with all of that. The bit about seeing the badge hit a note though. Hecks incompetence has led to a situation where we just don't have a recognised badge or brand. Highlights on motd etc show players sporting one badge while a different one is displayed in the studio. And there's a deeply unpopular one in the pipeline. It's something the club really needs to get a grip of if our badge is to become world renowned.
-
That's spot on Dave.
I agree and now I must read it.
-
Done.
-
Very good, enjoyed that.
Those of us who were at VP on Saturday and just watched Forest manure game just appreciate how our team is different class from the team who beat Forest tonight.

It's a great piece, but we always, always fuck it up. I know I ought to have a positive mindset because things are genuinely different now with this manager. But we always fuck it up.

Not this time I reckon. These owners gave us Deano, kept Grealish until the time was right, appointed the recruitment team(s) that brought in Mings, Konsa, Dougie, Ollie, Emi, Kamara, Bailey, etc, and were directly responsible for getting Emery. There’s no reason to worry that they’re suddenly going to start getting things wrong.

I hope you're right mate, but I'm just psychologically preparing myself!

God points, but they also appointed Heck.

True, true.

I’m a bit the same and have been for a long time. I remember leaving the FA Cup defeat against Fulham in 98/99 and realising we were never ever going to take the ‘next step’, and I should just stop letting the hope that we would eat me up.

Who will get it right (Right being increasing our turnover hugely which is what he is there to do) even if there are bumps and unpalatable things along the way. Everyone makes mistakes, the Everton ticket pricing was a huge one, but they learned from it and now some of the ticket pricing has been superb.
Great read and observations Dave as usual. We can shout about something when we have achieved something. Once (see being positive is rubbing off ;)) we are in the Champions league we can hand over to the marketers and say "Off you go then and milk it to death" Then the "Proud history, Bright future " will never have been more apt.

I think we are on the cusp of something really big, we just need to see it to believe it.

I actually struggle to see where we could buy (if the FFP thing was not a cross to bare) better that some of our team at the moment. Assuming money no real issue:
Emi - Any other keeper you would want - err no
Pau - As above
Konsa - As above
McGinn - if he keeps the Emery form up - nope
Bailey - As Mcginn
Dougie - Nope
Kamara - Only Declan Rice for me
Watkins - Haaland aside - nope
Ramsay - i think he will just get better and better and be the partner of Bellingham for England for years to come (Once Mouthgate fucks off)
Thats 9 players out of 11 - of the other 3 needed 2 x are full backs
We really are that good at the moment
-
I agree with that Hookey.
-
I'm more than happy with left back too, and if this new kid turns out to be good i'll feel the same about right back. I think we could just do with that 1 creative/attacking player who has that bit of something amazing. Think of Coutinho's best game for us and him producing it every week, that sort of thing. And then i think we're still not quite as strong overall squad wise as some but may have to be in the CL for that.
-
I've got to say I do like Gibbs-White and could see him really flourishing in the role Tielemans is playing now, but then Youri is not a shabby player and Buendia will be coming back so it's probably very unlikely that we'd spend heavily on that position.

Bloody hell - i actually forgot about little Emi - get him firing and fighting for the place with Uri and wow what a fantastic squad we will have

Agree. The starting XI is a good side. I think we definitely need another option at right-back, not necessarily to replace Cash but so that we can interchange in games like we do with Moreno and Digne.
The 'number 10' role was something we looked to address this season with Diaby, but unfortunately he hasn't really fired yet this season. With Buendia and Tielemans playing there, it's an area we're OK in. A back up striker is another must and think a young promising striker would fit the bill there.
The only other area I think needs strengthening is central midfield. I just think we need an option who can come on in the closing stages and really bring some energy when we are looking to see games out. A more mobile and athletic version of Dendoncker really and we're going to need cover for Kamara at the start of next season anyway.

I agree with a lot of what others have said - we have a really god first team. In a transfer sense, the challenge, as is the case for all clubs when they get to this pint in their evolution, isn’t just to keep the best players. Great teams replace great players with even better ones.
For now, it’s fair to say this is a team that isn’t hard to love.
