At a gig in Digbeth on Saturday evening and need some suggestions as to where to watch the game in town.
With Blues being at home, anywhere in Digbeth is likely to have a few of them milling around post-match, so I'd rather not be in the same pub as them (Nortons, Hennesseys).
Recommendations welcome!

Centre of town, the Trocadera will have it on, it is what it is in there. If you want to venture out a bit, the Lord Clifden in Hockley will have it on and is a nice pub and you won’t get many noses mulling around there.
-
No it wont, the Clifden is no more, closed down.

Really? Well there you go, it was a good pub. Don’t go there London Villan!! The Red Lion is defo still open and is a nice quiet boozer in Hockley, Warstone Lane

The Clifden is up for sale for £700k at the moment.
We are normally at the games - so no idea about pubs in town showing matches. The Troc maybe an option and not too far to walk to Digbeth then.
-
I'd read that it was the result of a Fire Service inspection and that punter numbers were to be limited due to there only being one escape from the garden down that corridor to the front, which made its ongoing profitability unviable. Not sure I believe that as, its always been that way for 10 years or so without note and, there must be hundreds of London pubs with exactly the same access, and if people are outside I'd guess them being outside the other side of the building isnt quite so important?
Probably just lack of customers and rising overheads.
-
The new owners "refurbed" it and killed it. Crap food and crap beer.
The guy that owned it, along with the Red Lion, sold them both for a couple of million - the new owners have lost a fortune on it.

The Trocadero is usually a good shout. The Roebuck would be another.
-
Must admit I only noticed last week when going past but its been closed since last summer.

I thought you were asking for suggestions for boozers in Luton… phew

Whatever you do keep away from Sherlock street because that’s where they gather when they are angry and angry they will be after Southampton drill them a new orifice.
-
The Troc is your best bet. I didn't know The Roebuck had screens. The Head Of Steam has screens but I haven't been in there for a while.

I forgot about the Head Of Steam. I was in there on Saturday and the baggies game was on.

Snobs is pretty good for the football if you're in Brum.
If you're in luton the Red Lion is the only half decent pub in town I know

Bit too close to Digbeth when the noses are at home. I've no idea if they use there but I'd give it a swerve if I was them. There's better options.
-
Left field choice but you could watch it in the Aston Social and then grab an uber to town after the match?
-
You won't be allowed in any city centre pub, its their law.
-
Would there not be a heap of places on or around Broad Street showing the game?
-
Suggestions welcome!

Boom Battle Bar, Five Ways?

You'd imagine after their sell out last week they'd be back to 15k again? There's not Operation Sell Out Whoever that I can see. Plus they've lost two in a row.
-
I'd point out that Norton's is run by a Villa fan and will always have our game on (unless there's a big GAA or Irish rugby match clashing)

does the Social open when Villa aren't at home ?

This is what we aren't sure of - potentially yes - but then we have to get to Digbeth for a gig that starts about 8ish.
-
The Gosta Green by Aston Uni has loads of screens showing football usually - and should be quicker to walk to Digbeth from there than from Broad Street. Depends really how and where you’re arriving in town initially.

And you can throw some axes around if we start off poorly.
-
Troc, Windsor, Royal. All pubs full of Villa on home matchdays. All will show.

Not sure the Windsor has sky sports.
-
The Distillery on Sheepcot St is a decent venue for live football both TVs upstairs and downstairs by the canal.
-
The Vine , back of the old Tescos fiveways top of Broad St.
-
Snobs show football now don't they....
Gosta Green up by Aston Uni isn't too bad, the Sack of Potatoes directly across the road also has Sky Sports News endlessly on their screens when I walk past it in the weeks so there's two options and a ten minute walk to Digbeth.
-
Cheers all, we have a working list of hostelries now.
We better win.
UTV!

Sack of Potatoes don't show the games , its a good pub though so is The Gunmakers in that neck of the woods

They show games all the time, watched the cup final in there last Sunday. They are showing the game Saturday too, and I’ll probably be watching it there.
