I want to see villa win the FA cup more than any other trophy - thinks its our year

Good starting 11. Hopefully we don't have to use Torres off the bench.
I'm glad Emery seems to have finally dropped Diaby. Playing him into form hasn't worked, maybe a spell on the bench will do it.

Looking forward to this!

I'm quite relaxed about this. Same as I was first time around. I'd love to win the FA Cup again but my whole season isn't riding on it. We really should be beating them comfortably here but no more injuries at the end of the night and I'm happy.

I'd take pens if we win.

Haven't been confident about this one since the first game. A replay at home should give us the ideal chance to progress against a mediocre Chelsea. But it's the Villa.

Fair points. There was just something about 2000. We genuinely should have had nothing to fear in 2000. We were an established top 6 team. They weren't what they later became. The sense of occasion in 2000 also, it sort of felt like it would be our day.

In the finals since 2000 I always felt we were big underdogs and didn't have the sort of expectations I had in 2000

Pochettino deeply annoyed by the ITV interviewer's line of questioning re why are you not playing this player and this other

Thiago Silvia’s wife tweeted ‘Time for a change’ after the Wolves game and then Poch dropped Thiago Silva.
The commentary team said ‘He should have expected that question’.
My view was that he absolutely expected that question and answered it by saying ‘I am a professional who has picked my best team’ whilst pissing himself laughing!

Not great from Kamara but most refs would've given him a free kick there, if they'd scored it'd been a bit of a gift.

But the midfield is used to the defence pushing up and squeezing the space. Instead, we now have a ponderous, slow back line whose instinct is to back off. It's leaving a huge gap.

Defence is shocking. For me its Cash again, he does kind of seems to do his part but when I watch home closely it seems he really dosent - but what do I know. We also are dependent on Unais system to a degree and when it dosent work individual players seems a bit lost if they dont have strong character like Konsa and some.

I think this is incredibly harsh, the problems are in midfield not in defence, Galagher in particular is getting far too much space.

To be fair, there aren't many teams who could cope with losing their entire first choice defence. I'm not sure why more hasn't been made of our insane injury crisis.

We’ve got a massive problem when we go behind. Our game plan is set up to draw teams out, but they don’t need to. Instead we’re aimlessly playing into their hands.

All season long, our approach has been to play a high line and squeeze the space between midfield and defence.

Since Torres got injured, I don't think we've caught the opposition off side even once.

They're more organised, look like they know what they're doing, are first to every ball, are stronger in the tackle. After cutting them open a few times early on it now looks like one of those games where we play slow, slow, slow-slow, slow and never look like creating a chance. We are a real Jeckyll and Hyde team, comparing when we go behind or take the lead.

Praying to the Dark Gods we don't fall behind Vs ManUre on Sunday.

It's just so bad out there it's hard to know where to even start with changes. Watkins and Martinez get a pass, just about every other player has been useless. That half arsed attitude summed up by likes of Kamara and Luiz.

I'm wondering if 433 is worth a go with Diaby and Bailey either side of Watkins. I'd keep McGinn on and take off any of Kamara, Luiz or Tielemans. They have no pressure playing out from back into midfield whereas we simply can't do it. If Torres is capable of 45mins then might aswell get him on now ahead of the weekend.

Yep, turning it around for a win isn't impossible, but it's unlikely now. However, I want to see a us being the better team in the second half. Change what you need to change to make that happen. Show us something. Show us you care about going out of the cup.

Who knows, an early goal in the second half and they'll be very nervous given they should be out of sight by now.  The way we've played there's more chance of this finish 0-3 as there is of us getting back into it.

You're right. If we've one player whose 'off' day permeates through the team, it's him. I work from time to time with a bloke who'll say, "I'm just not feeling it today", and he'll fuck off home. Emery should ask Kamara how he's feeling before he picks the line-up. No judging, just accept that it's not his day, and don't pick him. We'd be better off.

I know we have a fair few injured at the moment, but the main issue we're having now is that the summer signings haven't improved last year's squad. Torres aside, we're still mostly relying on the players we already had.

Tielemans on his game is an asset and there have been signs of that. What we do miss is JJ Ramsey's ability to drive up the pitch from midfield. We have no one else with that kind of ability in the middle and he's basically been a write-off this season for us.

Absolutely pathetic. They don’t care about the FA Cup. They’re not going to win it in my life time and I’m buggered if I’m bothered about watching another FA Cup match again. First time under Emery where effort isn’t there. We’ll most likely beat them in the league fixture.

I know the midfield have been poor, but Cash was terrible for the first goal, and Carlos completely lost his man for the second.

Two very poor goals to concede.  Losing the ball on the touchline when they've got a 3 v 2 advantage in that area, and an unmarked striker on the 6-yard line.  The sort of mistakes that should be punished at the top level, and were.

Fair enough, didn't remember them, but have there been any against Newcastle or tonight? i.e. against halfway competent opposition.

The only way we will get anything from this personnel changes at HT. I worry that it'll be the same 11 trotting out second half.
I would add zaniolo for a bit of muscle and take off tileimans, plus anyone on for kamara
I can't see substitutions alone making much difference. The shape has to change.

Both out of form as well. I think there’s a bit of complacency going on. The only changes he can make are Diaby and Ramsey and just have a go….and up the pace we’re playing at.

When McGinn passed the ball slightly behind him about halfway through that half, he just slowed his run and looked up.  No urgency knowing full well they were breaking on us.  That worried me.  Not the attitude you need in the middle of the park.

Tielemans and Diaby have had their moments but on the whole, over the course of the season, they haven't performed with any consistency. Zaniolo hasn't clicked at all.
Yes, we're missing the player JJ was last season, but that's my point. Three new midfielders and we're still hampered by a player we already had being off form.

I'm afraid that unless we score first we seem a pretty easy nut to crack  Another embarrassing performance at home against a team that has really struggled lately.  I thought the Sheffield Utd game was us getting back on track but I'm very worried watching this (after Newcastle) that we might be out of steam.

Wishful thinking.  This is the same performance as the Newcastle game.  We haven't felt with the press well enough in midfield, have wasted the attacking situations we've had, and looked shaky at the back.  And our midfield has been SHITE.  This is worrying.

Yep.  Massive.

Credit to Chelsea but I think Poch has very little to do with whether they perform or not.

It was three full minutes from when Caicedo went down injured to the restart after the subs.  I guess they gave us an extra 60 seconds for the "checks notes" SIX other subs and their literal time-wasting booking.  I genuinely thought we'd be getting 8 or 9 minutes.

Shit happens. I am in a beautiful private game reserve with a load of friends. Need to chalk it off and enjoy the next game.

In RSA so was a shame they missed out on the Afcom final. Very entertaining match though.

Yesterday watched the Asian match with my Jordanian Palestinian mate, and against all odds they beat South Korea. Win some loose some but whatever happens this is the best season in donkeys years for us villans. Onwards and upwards.
