Really enjoyed reading this - funny how our pre-match routines burn into the memory. Also I didn't know that there had been a Harry Parkes in Erdington. I bought my first self funded Villa scarf
from his shop on Corporation Street in the 1960s and was served by the man himself. I still have it.

Nice to be taken back to what appear to be much simpler times.

Really good read Mr Russell, love the memories of the Green buses from Cannock chase and your memories of castle ring and Rugeley. All very much my home territory.

Lovely stuff. Often thought about compiling something similar but never had enough motivation to do so.

A lovely read. The green buses were from a family owned company, Harper Brothers who were based in Heath Hayes. When I started to go regularly in the late 60s they provided a vital service although in the bad times it wasn't unusual for a coach to have just the same eight or nine passengers every game.
