Sunday 29th October, 2pm kick-off.
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it so I started the thread.
If we fail to win it's going to feel like points dropped. No disrespect to Luton but FTF 8)
-
8-0.
-
Or possibly 0-2.
-
14-0 at HT. We declare and then we bowl them out for nil.
-
It will either be a scrappy 1-0 home win (Konsa) or an absolute funeralling.
-
I've been invited into full corporate for this (not that all you can eat buffet fiasco) so put money on us losing this one
-
Nah, Luton Airport.
-
Same team as tonight would do me as long as no one picked up any knocks.
-
3-0 regulation win
-
Plenty of goals but not necessarily in the right order.
-
This precisely the sort of run of the mill game that brings a long winning run crashing to a halt.
But, this is not then, this is now, this is not normal this is Emery.
Start full strength, gain a significant advantage and then make changes. Then have a rest for a week.
3-0
-
I’m going double figures for this one 11-0 ;D
-
We will have to try to be consistent, demanding raising our levels. But enough about posting on H&V.
There are no easy games™ but I fear for Luton's collective arsehole.
-
Will be our Eldests first Mens game a Villa park, she is 10.
Been to a few ladies games, but never the mens
Hoping for a load of goals as she hasn’t seen a Villa win yet (ladies have lost every time we watched them!)
4-0, Ollie x 2, Tielemans and Zaniolo
-
I still have Villatitis, think it will be tough in the way Forest were tough to breakdown last year, when they didnt really attempt to attack us.
Same result as that, 2-0 (Watkins, Diaby).
And a big welcome back for Nakamba
-
Our biggest threat is complacency, not just on H&V. Unai won’t allow that though.
-
6-1
-
Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne, Kamara, Luiz, McGinn, Tielemans, Bailey, Watkins.
Very harsh to drop Diaby as thought he was very sharp against West Ham but Bailey has done enough for a start.

Yep, I think I'd go with that. Need to keep Bailey's confidence up, and Tielemans deserves a start as well.
-

My sentiments exactly.
-
Think Unai might find a way of giving Cash or Digne most of the game off
-

Digne can take a card and get the next game off. If we can get a few goals in early then maybe we can cope with a makeshift back line and give Cash a break too.
-
Luton will come to frustrate and make life difficult for us. They took a good point off Forest last week. But we're on a roll under El Maestro and a fully firing Villa should be too much for these. I have a nagging feeling that our 10 goals in the last two home games won't be boosted by more than a single goal. 1-0 or 2-1 to the Villa boys.
-
Is Moreno back for this one?
-
Nah. Time to shake off the shackles of pessimism and feelings of doom. I think we're going to absolutely wipe the floor with them. We'll speed to a 3-0 lead early in the second half, then properly turn the screw after that. 7-1.
-
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it so I started the thread.
A very appropriate time, a few hours after we have chewed the previous match result, to start this. Well done.

Oh no a bit concerned about the young lady’s influence on the Villa so far😊 Could you reconsider and wait till we have secured champions league place before she watches the men’s team?

See you in the fun zone?! From midday. Do they do it for ladies games too btw?
If you see xxxx #4 and xxxx #2 shirts that’ll be me in the vicinity. Hopefully with a few others inc my cousin over from the US, whose son is doing well at College ‘soccer’ and is a villa fan :)
-
Have seen Luton play a couple of times this season including against 10 man Spurs. They are dreadful. If our lads are properly tuned in we will win easily. Irish winger Ogbene might cause Digne some problems but apart from that they have very little else. Might even see Rosco make another appearance at Villa Park. Not sure he will be brave enough to sit down in front of the Holte End this time.
-

Very harsh to drop Diaby as thought he was very sharp against West Ham but Bailey has done enough for a start.
I think there is zero chance of Diaby not starting unless injured, after sitting the whole game out yesterday. He may well play Bailey as well. It would be harsh not to plat Tielemans, but if the games going well, he could bring him on on 55/60 mins so he gots nearly half the match.

Could give Luiz a breather if he really trusts the squad to get the job done in a PL game.
-
Diaby came on didn't he last night? But I agree that he will start on Sunday.
-
We've had a lot of positive media coverage this week. We know how that ends. 1-3.
-

yes, that's where my thinking is
-
4-0
They will come to frustrate us but we'll get one fairly early and they'll open up.
-
Nobody comes to Villa park to make life easy for us, but they all go away with the same result.
-
Fully prepared for Nakamba to have the best game of his career by a mile! We'll still win though. 3-1
-
Shock goal conceded at some point during the game.
-
We can’t and won’t be complacent. Much better sides have had their arses handed to them so I expect we will be suitably prepared to do the same to this lot. I imagine Emery was looking at Luton game footage in between playing Football Manager on the coach home, and his staff has been preparing accordingly not taking anything for granted.
-
This could be tougher than people think. We struggled to score for most of the matches against Mostar and Palace when they came to mainly park the bus. Luton are a poor side but they work hard and since the opening 2 games they haven't lost by more than 1. A fairly early goal and we should win comfortably, otherwise I can see it being a nervy one.
-

Really could do with a goal Sunday to boost his confidence
-
Anytime you're expecting us to thrash someone, you're likely to be disappointed.

Palace was immediately after the shit Liverpool result though, so I think confidence was low, and we'd just lost Carlos as well as Mings. I think we tried to keep it tight for a while. We're playing with 100% more freedom and confidence now.
-
Actually going, first League game in ages.
Luton the only team in the top flight that I've not watched live.
Fancy us to win 2-0. Take a while to break them down, but comfortable in the end.
-
Barkley and Marvelous starring as two former footballing team-mates with very different motives, thrown together once more after some time apart as they battle life in a grey Hertfordshire town.
Pilot for a Ch5 drama-series. I'd give it 12 minutes ahead of the first ad-break before making any judgement.

Indeed Paddy. Where did that come on your excellent review of English counties, somewher near the bottom I trust?

Correct i had the displeasure of working in the area (Luton/Dunstable) for a few years .
Best thing to come out of Luton is 24 Hours in Police Custody
-
Hubris is a funny thing.
-
Indeed Paddy. Where did that come on your excellent review of English counties, somewher near the bottom I trust?
Second or third-bottom, I think.
-
We’re going to absolutely obliterate them. I usually say 27-0, as a joke. Not a joke this time.
-
The closest I've been to Luton is a little village called Toddington where Black Country Lions used to stop when we were playing down that way. There used to be a market on sometimes. One of the stalls sold Freddo's.

It’s an absolute dive. Stayed in a hotel without windows (I mean, no place for windows. Not just big holes where windows once were) when I was flying from Luton once.
Violence appeared a possibility on every street.

That's also a good way to get out of Luton in a pinch.
-
Luton is an absolute shithole of the highest order, up there with Stoke for absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever.

I was once desperately trying to find some digs in the pre-internet age as I was on a course in Watford, and I ended up at a B&B in Luton and he showed me the single worst room I've ever seen. I looked at it and just walked out and drove home instead.
I'm normally loathe to call anywhere a 'shithole' but Luton is relentless.
-
Luton is an absolute shithole of the highest order, up there with Stoke for absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever.
Yep, I had to spend a week working there a while back and I hated everything about the place.
-
I had to drive through Toddington often to get to our office . There are a lot of pubs in that village in fairness. I think its where the wealthier people from Luton go on holiday
-
This is the kind of game traditionally where it all comes skidding to a halt.
I think we will be tired after last night's exertions and Emery not able to put a game plan into place as Luton don't have a system or style to plan against. Having said that, I think we will squeeze out enough energy to win 1-0 or 2-1.
-
I fully expect us to bollock their eyes out.
6-0
-

Lorraine Chase impersonator?

i did fly out of Luton airport about 2 weeks ago , just before the car park burnt down (nothing to do with me). Another horrid place and experience
-
I fully expect us to bollock their eyes out.
6-0
I was genuinely taking a swig of tea when I read that
-
Of course, after recent results against much better teams than Luton, we all know what the most Villa thing to do in this match is, don’t we?
-
I fully expect us to bollock their eyes out.
6-0
Has to be post of the month on here!!! Bravo
-
Luton is an absolute shithole of the highest order, up there with Stoke for absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever.
I went to uni in Stoke back in the 90s and can confirm its shithole status, though the drink and drugs certainly helped me have a grand old time in the grey old town.
I had to do some work in Dunstable for a day last year and afterwards i was telling a women in work what a hole it was, she informed me deadpan she had her wedding day there, what are the fecking chances of that.
-
Stoke Uni ? that's a new one on me . Up there with RAF Luton
-
I fully expect us to bollock their eyes out.
6-0
Well done for making me look a tit on the train haha
-
After the exertions of last night, right now I'll just settle for the 3 points. Luton will make us work very hard for them.
-

Win. This is Unai Emery's Aston Villa.
-

3 points, no injuries, don't care otherwise.
-
4-1 for the 3rd time in succession.....
-
an early goal will open them up nicely
-

They will and it’s what UE said in his press conference also. He even referenced the let down we suffered vs Everton in the cup. That we cannot take anything for granted. I expect to see job done as part of the post match thread. That will suffice after the week, the performances we have had to raise to, and number of games we have had to play.
-
What's the craic with Jacob? Has he got sore bruising so it's hard to gauge a return time or is his injury more serious?
-
Stoke Uni ? that's a new one on me . Up there with RAF Luton
Staffordshire Uni, or Staffordshire Poly as it was still known the year before I went there
-
I had to drive through Toddington often to get to our office . There are a lot of pubs in that village in fairness. I think its where the wealthier people from Luton go on holiday
No, they go to Billing Aquadrome.
-
What's the craic with Jacob? Has he got sore bruising so it's hard to gauge a return time or is his injury more serious?
Think I did read somewhere that Emery in his presser before West ham last week said that him and Moreno would be back in 2-3 weeks ish. Not sure though.
-
What's the craic with Jacob? Has he got sore bruising so it's hard to gauge a return time or is his injury more serious?
Emery said 2-3 weeks in the West Ham pre-match press conference. Same with Moreno. We should start to see them before the next international break and then more so afterwards. Just in time for the Man City/Arsenal games by the sound of it.

Was about to agree, but maybe you have a point Risso. Will be fascinating to see.
I would say greetings from Luton btw but I'm at one of our Hospital sites in East London atm.
It certainly has been listed as #1 worst place to live, but there are plenty of redeeming features (not just that it's closer to B6 than I was in London) and nice parts of town (likewise Dunstable, eg the Dunstable Downs).
I find being in a town compared to a City a pleasant relief, and couldn't have hoped to setting up a better family home/location tbh.
Annnnywayyyy, I was explaining Funeralling to a Luton fan last night.
I think as much as how you cope against the big boys, how you cope against the parked bus will be interesting.
-
Aside from their first couple of games Luton don't tend to get soundly tonked. They've been a tad unfortunate in some games, or just lacked a cutting edge you need to win games at this level.
So I'm expecting a tight and difficult game. That said, I expected the same against Brighton, West Ham and AZ, and we twatted them all royally.
We'll see. Historically when we have a good run this is the kind of game we slip up in. So I hope we are right on it from the start.
2-1 Villa but it's going to be by no means easy.
We're gonna win 10-0 now, aren't we?
But seriously. Very tight game. 2-1.
(10-0).
Don't slip up lads!
-
A nervy win followed by a cringeworthy rendition of “ You’ve seen the Villa now politely go home” .
-

I worked in Barrow in Furness for a while. It was the most unremittingly depressed and dull place I had ever been to. Greyer and sadder than the shitty council estate in Birmingham I grew up in. I had to go to Stoke with a work colleague who was a proud native Barrovian and even he thought Stoke was a shit hole.
Oh, and this is a massive banana skin. Oddly, if Villa win this apparently easy game, I will finally stop waiting for the bubble to burst after a year of consistently strong performances. Because traditionally, we lose games like this.
-
I had to drive through Toddington often to get to our office . There are a lot of pubs in that village in fairness. I think its where the wealthier people from Luton go on holiday
No, they go to Billing Aquadrome.
I had to pitch some work to Billing Aquadrome a few years ago, fella I was dealing with described what it was like of a weekend in summer when the most of the council estates in the East Midlands started their sojourn, sounded like Sodom & Gamorrah hosting Millwall in the cup.
-
Our biggest top flight victory is 7-1 v Wimbledon and Chelsea.
12-2 V Accrington?

Billing Aquadrome is weird, a strange little holiday village built right next to a sewage works and the smell that comes with it.
-
A couple of random other things, we have a losing record against Luton. W15 D5 L19. That's mainly down to our woeful record at their place.
And the last time we played them at home in the league we won 4-0. October 1991, scorers were Yorke, Regis, Richardson and Paul Mortimer. Att: 18,722.
-

Jordan Amavi....
And Di Matteo laughing as they scored.
-
Came across the Luton Town preview with Rob Edwards on YouTube. They start by asking him what he thinks of how Uni Emery has been doing since taking over at Villa, and he just laughs. Seems a nice guy, and I didn't realise he spent about 10 years at Villa as a kid.
-
Was going to go to this but thought £42 in the North Stand was a bit steep. Think I’ll keep my powder dry for ‘bigger’ games.
Should be a comfortable victory but I’ll settle for 3 points however it comes.
-

whatever happened to Amavi , he went to Marseille didn’t he ?
-
I can't get onboard with any negativity about this game. They've won once, we've got 14 points more than them after just 9 games, we're in fine form and on a tremendous run at home. They might try to bore us into submission, but we're the embodiment of patience these days. I'd be unsurprised should they not register an effort on target all afternoon.
4-0. Douglas Luiz, McGinn, Watkins and Zaniolo.

Yep, He was doing really well with them for a while and was in the mix for some international caps but he's barely played for about 3 years now with 3 or 4 loans mixed in.

Hard to forget that performance. Richards not trying a leg and Okore having a horror show. Ayew did well to recover his career from playing, and struggling, with such a crew.
-
And I don't think he played for us again.
He didn't. IIRC a couple of weeks later he was off to Palace. Got to be a contender for 2nd shortest Villa career. Bought in July, sold in October.
-
Don't know why but I'm a bit anxious about this one whereas last week and mid week was very calm. Probably down to all them years I worked in and around luton , plus I was at the 0-2 defeat at their place 86 I think , was a shit tip then too.
-
It’s been said on here a few times already but complacency is a massive threat here. So no resting key players and record score predictions. Think we’ll win comfortably if we play the way we have been, 3-0 anymore is a bonus
-
We’re not going to be complacent. We’re going smash them to smithereens. They’ll wish they were never promoted.
-
We've scored 12 more goals in all comps do far than we did in the league all season when we went down.

There's no midweek game next week so I don't know why we would rest anyone.

I still remember Pembridge's goal on the volley in front of the Holte. Had Paul Scholes scored it or it had occured in the post 1992 world it would be spoken about forever.

We've scored 12 more goals in all comps do far than we did in the league all season when we went down.
Cheers for that statman

2-0. I want to see us in the top 4 tomorrow. We deserve it.
-
It'll be interesting to see what he does tomorrow. Both Tiliemans and Bailey played really well on Thursday but will he start them?

I hope so. There aren't many easier games than Luton at home, on paper at least.
-
I might well be a tough game. Since their first two defeats, they haven't let in many since. It might be one where the crowd have to be patient.

Stop being such a miserablist, Clamps.
We are going to absolutely funeral this lot.
Then we'll resuscitate them, and re-funeral them. Just for shits and giggles.
When that's done, we'll get them to write us a letter, apologising for the mess they've left whilst being funeralled on our immaculate pitch.

Any sort of victory takes us above Liverpool if they fail to beat Forest at home.
A 2 goal victory leaves us above Man C if they only draw at Old Trafford later in the day.
-
We have confidence, momentum, belief , a system and style of play , we are better than them in every position. Villa Park is now officially a Fortress . We have super UE. COYVB's top 4 beckons

Come to the conclusion (or rather my wife has 🤣) that I can no longer afford the extortionate prices for food and drink at the ground for me and the kids. Having never really taken food in before can anyone advise on what you can and can’t take? I was thinking sandwiches and drink?

Just go AliBabahs chippy near the school and there's a spa next door . Feed the whole family for peanuts

I've taken full packed lunch, sarnies, snacks etc. Drinks fine but in your bottles not a coke style disposable.

Battered sausage , chips, scratchings, 4 pack of Red Stripe . All for less than £10. You don't need to break the bank to live like a king in aston . (Opposite Manor Park School)

Bottles or cans? I'm guessing cans (in the UK) but a chilled Red Stripe always tastes so much better from a stubby.

Cans mate in Aston , I've not noticed bottles of it but I haven't really looked around . There are 2 offys one either side of AliBabahs so it's possible

Crowd? what crowd are you talking about, quite frankly it's a disgraceful situation that the stadium is going to be nearly half empty tomorrow. With few hours to go there are still 19, yes nineteen, seats available. And they are thinking about increasing the capacity, mind boggles.

BRMB as always

I don’t think I’ve ever been so confident which means certain defeat.
-
Yet again another game people can’t watch despite paying for a TV licence, having a Sky subscription an Amazon account and a TNT Sport subscription and you wonder why people turn to illegal streams.

Now if White Lightening was in that offer!

Got a feeling this could be a game along the lines of Zrinjski, and their keeper will turn into the World number one
-
Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Torres
Digne
McGinn
Luiz
Kamara
Tielemans
Bailey
Watkins

Yeah I think this will be tough - they’re pretty resilient.

Early goal would help as it wouldn't let them sit in. Am I right in thinking that this was our last top flight game at home against them? Gary Penrice's debut and starting as he meant to go on by missing a sitter. First time I'd seen a corner like that as well where it chipped out to the edge of the box and a great volley.
-
I won't be there today, I'll be in London. Last time I was in London when we were at home we scored 6. Prior to that my previous absence was the 3-0 Newcastle. There's your omen right there, folks.
-
Did like that their manager Rob Edwards played 10 Premier League games.
8 for us and 1 against us (for Blackpoool, 3-2).
So only one of his top flight games wasn't a Villa match.

No Diaby ? I can't see him not starting

Complacency is probably the only thing that will stop us winning today and I really don’t think Unai will allow that.
-
It does have a bit of a Notts County at home 1981 feel to it

Yeah, think it will probably be Zaniolo for Tielemans and Diaby for Bailey in that line up. Might start with the formation where Bailey starts on the right though, with Kamara, Luiz and McGinn in the middle, and Diaby and Watkins up top.
-
Diaby is a better play than Bailey despite the latters form lately. Diaby and Watkins together are a real handful for most defences. I guess it depends how much certain players need a rest etc. We need to keep the pressure on the teams slightly ahead and the ones slightly behind, so I'm hoping for a win and ideally another goal haul, because its so tight this year that goal diff could be important.
-
It should be a routine win but I too am unnerved by the level of confidence, something's bound to go wrong
-
Diaby didn't play in the week so i think he starts . Is Zaniolo back from Italy and available ?
I'd play the team that started v WHUFC if they are all available

I'm wondering the same. He was supposedly in Italy on Friday, so he might not have been there for the Luton specific preparation.
-
Too much hubris on this thread. 1-1, with us having 21 shots on target to their 1 shot.
-

I completely agree. He will not accept slacking. He'll want to funeral these to the fullest extent. Whilst showing them the respect due a team in the same division.
I love him more with every passing day.

Luton will voluntarily go into administration at 4pm after what we’re about to do to them.

Ha! I hope you're right. I woke up far too early this morning worrying about the game. As VillaTim said, it has a Notts County at home 1981 feel to it that I just can't shake off. I should have stayed in bed.
-
For anyone of a nervous disposition. I am going today. My last Villa game was against Stevenage.
-
Yeah I've got a bad feeling about this.
-
Typical Villa supporters, our best run for years playing a club let's face it who will be lucky to stay up and they think we will lose ( well some anyway). 6 nil to us.

We of Villa know that the gods are capricious and wilful, that their ways are inscrutable to mortals, that pride attracts their jealousy and excites their rage.

Best wishes have every faith in you!
Stevenage are better form than Luton and we ain't playing our reserves in this one!
And of you get to witness a record win?
Let us dream!
Yeah I've got a bad feeling about this.
Come on Monty
I'm feeling lucky number 7 .

A bad omen, and we never do well against teams from Hertfordshire under Unai.

Just as well there aren't any in the Premier League then.

I know, I was referencing eamonn's comment earlier in the thread and the subsequent correction.

Some positive stats from BBC.
- First meeting of the sides since Villa won 3-1 in League Cup opening round in Aug 2016.
- Last time they played at Villa Park, League Cup R2 in Oct 2002, 3-0 Villa with Dublin scoring 2.
- Luton have lost 6 of their last 7 away games versus Villa in all competitions.

Even though we lost the LC game.

Oops, misread that. Ignore everything except they've lost 6 out of 7 against us.

It's the Beeb messing up rather than you.
