You may not know the name but if you were a regular away traveller up until recently you will almost certainly have known Dave by sight. At one time he'd done around forty years without missing a game home and away and the list of countries he'd seen the Villa play in was about that number as well, but he didn't like to say so because he said people would think he was boasting. He was a lovely man and the world is a sadder place for his passing.

That's dreadful news. A lovely man, always with a smile and Villa through and through. Rest easy Dave. HEITS
-
Such sad news. Another face that you would see at every single away game now gone. God bless you mate.
-
RIP Dave. Lost count of the places I bumped into him during the 1990s when I'd travel away; a true Villa fan and a decent man.
-
That is a real shame.

I'm sure that a lot of you will recognise him.

That's Dave - always smiling.
-
I'm sure we nicknamed him Les Ross back in the day.....RIP.
-
He was a really great guy, somebody you always wanted to talk to. As already said, always smiling.
-
There is a call for a minutes applause on the 73rd minute tomorrow in memory of Dave.
-
This is sad news.
RIP, fella!

I don't agree with that. He was a very shy, modest man who hated fuss. It's a nice gesture but he wouldn't have wanted it.
-
Also it’s a fair guess that amongst hundreds of thousands of Villa fans around the world one or two more have passed away this week. The applause notion is nice but you could do that every game sometimes twice a game if you want to remember all.
RIP Dave.
-
Yes, I recognise that face. RIP Dave and condolences to family and friends.
-
A man of few words but many smiles. You always felt happy in his company. I agree with Dave Woodhall, he wouldn’t want this 73rd minute fuss.

Seeing the Villa is special, but when you hear about supporters like Dave you have too give that extra respect, like many others from other clubs who follow them week in week out regardless

Was he a Londoner?
