Was reading up on Steve McMahon and apparently he made his Villa debut in a 4-3 win over the Baggies in 1983.
Don't remember ever hearing about this match?
-
These are some highlights.
-
Cheers Exeter, knew nothing about this match.
-
I was in the Upper Trinity that season. And a random fact from that season, we played Norwich 5 times.
-
First home game of the season sweltering hot weather & a classic game.
-
Cheers, not sure their Keeper would want to relive the Walters goal.

He was our goalkeeping coach for a while under Gregory I think.
-
Yep, Paul Barron.
-
Missed this as was flying home from Salou, with Spanish tummy as well, which was nice. The things you remember.
-
The only time I ever stood on the right (wrong) side.
-
Wasn’t at this game, as a then 9 year old, I would go to some but not all games with a friend and his dad. But have a vague memory of being with my dad in his Irish social club as Grandstand reported the goals flying in.
As an aside my sister went to Ladywood Comp with Brendan Ormbsy, who got the winner, she is still in touch with his wife. He has been in very poor health and is very poorly now after a number of strokes, i think he essentially cannot speak anymore, often wondered if the club helped in these circumstances.
Also notable seeing Garry ‘bruno’ Thompson score a great trademark header for them, and big Cyrille getting another, still makes me sad that he’s gone.
-
Dud wonder whether it was Garry Thompson. Didn't realise he'd played for the Olbion.
-
I went to all the other home games that season, but not this one due to my cousins wedding and wasn’t at all pleased, and remember being told it was 3-3 at half time and thought ‘what a game I’m missing’!

Indeed it was. Took my then GF to her first match and still together 40 yrs later. She did prefer talking rather than watching the game which was a bit annoying!
-
I still think that’s our best kit ever (dons tin hat)
-
I was at this one.
Great game.
Sid had broken his leg about 10 days before on the pre-season tour. Such a shame that he & McMahon never got to play togther.
-
They played together quite a lot in season 84/85, then both left.
