SHIT
-
Please be Pau in goal.
-
5 defenders?
-
Not watching anymore. Fucking Olsen
Stupid to not sign a decent 2nd choice goalkeeper.
And I've never heard of a single member of Burnley's team.
-
Well thats the keeper question answered.
-
Parking the bus to protect Olsen.
-
No Emi. :(
In Olsen We Trust!
-
5 defenders?
One of them might be in midfield, or it could be the three at the back we've seen.
Which would make sense. Because you know. Olsen.
-
5 defenders?
yeah, but only half a keeper
-
3-4-1-2 with McGinn behind the forwards?
-
5 defenders?
One of them might be in midfield, or it could be the three at the back we've seen.
Which would make sense. Because you know. Olsen.
5 of them just standing across the goal line makes sense with Olsen there.
-
5 at the back ?
It’s Burnley not city ?
Gutted about Emi. The flip side is that , God forbid, Olsen has a shocker , Unai has a few days to get someone in to replace him. Better now than in a few weeks.

The Escapini Defence.
-
Only 8 on the bench, even with the 2 keepers
-
Please be Pau in goal.
🤣

Ha ha ha. Brilliant.
-
8 subs including 2 keepers.
I love an Emery plan...
-
I said the other day that as soon as Unai said it was just a small injury to Martinez, we would be lucky to see him play again this side of Christmas!!
-
We'll probably win 4-0 now.
Unai 8)
-
I said the other day that as soon as Unai said it was just a small injury to Martinez, we would be lucky to see him play again this side of Christmas!!
And that will be on the pitch to announce his retirement.
-
I dunno, if Emi has to miss any matches Burnley and a dead rubber against Hibs seem like as good as any. Hopefully he's back for Liverpool though.
-
Digne in the team sheet photo suggests he's not off anytime soon.
-
3 at the back or Cash out wide right?
-
The injuries we get are fucking unreal man
-
Lets hope the away end get behind Olsen although I'm sure they will. Would have maybe preferred the extra midfielder but we'll see how it goes.
-

-
I suspect Olsen will be responsible for conceding a goal today
-
Great. Old butter-fingers in goal.
-
5 defenders?
yeah, but only half a keeper
Emery out
-
Lets hope the away end get behind Olsen although I'm sure they will. Would have maybe preferred the extra midfielder but we'll see how it goes.
Think they should all stand in front of him, to be honest ;D ;D
-
I bet Kompany wasn’t expecting that line up! Unai keeps him guessing
-
It's bizarre that for all the talk of how far we've come in the past few years, our second choice keeper is so bad that I almost instantly give up on us having any chance of getting points when he's named in the starting 11.
-
I bet Kompany wasn’t expecting that line up! Unai keeps him guessing
I think that might be it. He might have been planning to go with that outfield lineup anyway, you can't tell with Emery.
-
I really hope our transfer business isn't finished. That bench is ridiculously light.
-
Just to cheer everyone up after the Olsen news…Hibs have binned the poison dwarf

Im sure he will get better the more games he plays. It must be tough being a number 13 just coming in for the odd game when the main man is out. It just surprises me how nervous he appears as he is 33 and experienced not like a young kid coming through. A clean sheet would do him the world of good especially if emi is out and olsen gets a run of games. We've still got enough to be these lot.
-
Let’s hope the away end get behind Olsen
I’d rather they got in front of him.
EDIT: beaten to it by Derby above.
-
Really, I was thinking how strong it is considering the injuries.
-

I think that's right.
-
I think Bailey isn't fit - that what is circulating on twitter.
I think we'll see cash on the right of midfield. The injuries are unreal, but at the same time, I still think we haven't done enough. Olsen is clearly not good enough, yet we loaned him, then bought him, and haven't replaced him. He has cost us games in the past.
We need to see some more incoming as currently it makes things like letting Young go, and three of our more promising youngsters go, seem poor decisions. I know we have Emi x 2, Phil, Morenero, Ramsey, Mings, and Donk out, but you have to expect that at any given time, 1 or 2 players will be out and I think will be short all season. We have an 8 man bench with 2 goal keepers, and 2 wingers that, by various reports are not fully fit.
-
It certainly looks like 3 at the back and the full backs bombing on where we can. I am a tad concerned about the creativity within the side. Bench looks strong with Bailey, Zaniolo, Bert, Tielemans there.
-
I also think we still need another couple of players brought in too.
-
I suspect Olsen will be responsible for conceding a goal today
I suspect Cash will be responsible for us conceding today
-
Where is the Donk? He's getting more Daddy-Leave than the rest of us put together.
-
I also think we still need another couple of players brought in too.
Getting most of the injured players back will solve a lot of the problems, having so many players out so early in the season is very rare, for 2 of them to be long-term injuries picked up in the same week is even more so. I'd have liked to see someone like Feeney or Revan on the bench though, we don't have many defensive options right now.
-

oh no
they will have the new manager bounce , Im worried now
-
Lets hope the away end get behind Olsen although I'm sure they will.
Hopefully, I'd like to think the Olsen 'jibes' have run their course at this stage. It looks like he's our backup for the season, so let's get behind him.
-
Where is the Donk? He's getting more Daddy-Leave than the rest of us put together.
Emery said he's due back in training this week, think he had some kind of knock, but he's never been consistent enough for his liking, so he'll see if he can be consistent now. Or something to that effect.
-
Where is the Donk? He's getting more Daddy-Leave than the rest of us put together.
Back in training tomorrow

I'd never give him any grief in real life, a little bit of fun/genuine despair on here is alright though.
-
I had a irrational bad feeling about today's game and Olsen in goal has probably turned that into a rational fear.
I really hope he has a good game and even though its a surprising formation im behind Emery completely.
-
Olsen will have a blinder or we will score 5 goals and not have to worry about him.
good luck to him
-
good to see the usual pre match positivity :)
-
Fourth match of the season, will this be the one where we don’t get an injury?
-
Lets hope the away end get behind Olsen although I'm sure they will.
Hopefully, I'd like to think the Olsen 'jibes' have run their course at this stage. It looks like he's our backup for the season, so let's get behind him.
Well I have a feeling that that is going to depend on whether he is competent between the sticks or a fucking liability.
-
Fourth match of the season, will this be the one where we don’t get an injury?
Don't be silly
-
Not really sure what to expect - we played awfully against a good team and got hammer. We have played well against 2 awful teams and hammered them.
Not sure how to call this. We have a weakened team, and maybe an unfamiliar formation / partnerships.
I don't know much about Kompany's burnley but there first home game since coming up - feels like it could be tough.
-
3 at the back or Cash out wide right?
Hope not Cash wide in midfield like he was in a home game v Wolves or Leeds last season. He didn't have a clue what to do
-
Considering that’s seven first teamers injured, still a strong line-up.
-

If they have a shot on target, I know where I’d place my money.
-
I don't know much about Kompany's burnley but there first home game since coming up - feels like it could be tough.
They were at home again Man City opening day. I think the fact its their second home game makes it worse in the sense that they may have gotten all the nerves out that first game.
-
Emery is better than Kompany.
Our squad, even with the injuries, is better than Burnley's.
I can't see beyond a solid away win.
-
Fourth match of the season, will this be the one where we don’t get an injury?
Don't be silly
Olsen to wave at the bench after nine minutes complaining of neck pains; Marschall to come on and get a clean sheet.
-
Loving the all white
-
3 at the back or Cash out wide right?
Hope not Cash wide in midfield like he was in a home game v Wolves or Leeds last season. He didn't have a clue what to do
Does anyone know the way?
There's got to be a way

Taking a well earned autumn break with the Footyskills posse.

To be fair Fred was banging on about the lack of a decent 2nd choice keeper since Bedrock was all fields.

Very scrappy start.

Diaby got to do better

McGinn with two super passes in the space of a minute.

It was it forced the keeper into thinking he could get it.

Lovely.

Does Olsen not listen to any of the playing out from the back discussions.
-
God you can really see how not having Emi hits our build-up play.
-
Burnley with more of the ball than I would like.
Olsen reverting to hoof ball.
-
Does Olsen not listen to any of the playing out from the back discussions.
I hope not. Boot the fucker away. Make them do the work...
-
Another sensational through ball by McGinn there.
-
Watkins did well in the end to get the cross in and Cash did well to finish it!
-
Looks like a back 4?
-
SCOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Cash again!!!!
-
No wonder we don't need Archer or any other strikers.
-
Does Olsen not listen to any of the playing out from the back discussions.
Might have different instructions as he’s so bad at it.
-
What a goal!!!!
-
Yay!
-
CASH!
-
what a goal Cash!
-
Beautiful stuff.
-
WHAT. A. GOAL.
Fuck me that's a think of beauty.

Yes, Cashy again!

Yay!!
Any trickles would be really appreciated please.
-
Top draw.
-
Gorgeous.
-
Fuck my old boots is that a good goal!
-
Don’t think we need a new winger!
-
Currently looking like I'll be watching MOTD2 tonight.
-
Liquid football.
-
That's a superb goal, ripped them to pieces.
-
That was fucking prime Barca.
Unbelievable football. Unreal. Fuck me.
-
Matty Cash no 2 striker problem solved :)
-
this 5 at the back business 😳i
-
Gooooooooooolloxxooóol! Cash!
-
Any available rivers? First game I haven't worked this season and I'm missing the sodding thing.
Still, yes Cash!

This is brilliant to watch!

Class from Pau
-
Oh lord. That’s perfect emery fooball
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
-
Another sensational through ball by McGinn there.
If you want to know the difference between SteveieMe and Emery compare McGinn Aug 2023 to Aug 2022
CASHYYYYYY
-
N.....ever heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
Stan Lynn? All penalties I think.
-
2-0 goal
https://twitter.com/samirsynthesis/status/1695789029671719224
Awesome goal, wonderful stuff!!
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
Steve Nicol got one for Liverpool in the late '80s
-
He's not playing at full back today, though.
-
Any available rivers? First game I haven't worked this season and I'm missing the sodding thing.
Still, yes Cash!
If you find one please message me thank you.
-
We're so fucking good.
-
Diego Carlos having none of that i think its safe to say!
-
carlos - commanding
-
Currently working on a song for Unai 8)

-
My river runneth dry, anyone know of any other water sources?
-
Oh lord. That’s perfect emery fooball
Yes, what a lovely move that was.
-
Burnley have tried to isolate Luiz and Kamara so we can’t play out from the back. Shame.
-
Diego Carlos having none of that i think its safe to say!
How's he doing? Great to see him starting a league game.
-

Looks great.
-
Diego Carlos having none of that i think its safe to say!

He's a beast.
-
Even Clinton Morrison likes him. Carlos, that is.
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
I remember Steve Nichol getting one for Liverpool back in the day.
-
He looks heavy on his feet to me… Carlos, that is.
-
The second goal, Bailey and Diaby almost pulled off a similar Rotherham-lite move last weekend (Elmo in attendance. Coincidence? Hmm...) Obviously something we're working on with our right side.
-
He looks heavy on his feet to me… Carlos, that is.
Yeah I agree he looks commanding but needs to get back up to speed.
-
Carlos keeps giving the ball away. Pau looks calm though
-
Torres seems to be settling in nicely. You can see he has an air of authority about him.
-
Cash trying for his hat-trick
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
A few Villa defenders have managed it but never while playing for us.

Has PWS gone to the loo?
Edit : Sorry, just saw your message.
Thanks for the updates.
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
I remember Steve Nichol getting one for Liverpool back in the day.
Stan Lynn...first recognised full-back to score a hat-trick in a top-flight game in English football.
Stan’s achievement came in the 5-2 home win over Sunderland on Saturday, 11 January 1958.
-
Never heard of a full back getting a hat trick before
I remember Steve Nichol getting one for Liverpool back in the day.
Played in midfield that day.
Think Gillespie got one
-
hunting in packs in the midfield....kamara lost it but two or three white shirts sprinting to retrieve possession love to see it.
-
Has PWS gone to the loo?
Changing the batteries on his tranny.
-
Torres seems to be settling in nicely. You can see he has an air of authority about him.
He's looked quality so far.
-
Incidentally, we've been saying for ages that we're too reliant on Watkins for goals and that the midfield and defence need to step up a bit - well that's now seven goals in two and bit league games and none for Watkins.
All good stuff.
-
Has PWS gone to the loo?
Changing the batteries on his tranny.
Could be a joke there…but you’re not going to drag one out of me
-
We do look lethal when we break

As I said earlier - Stan Lynn. Open play is not the criteria for a hat-trick.
-
This looks like a top 4 team turning up and doing the business... we've been on the end of this performance so many times in the last 10 years. God this is enjoyable
-
Run them ragged for 60 minutes and then put Zaniolo on, I think.
-
I'm bored.
-
We play some amazing stuff
-
Some of the faces in the crowd. Not only are they having to watch their team being ripped to shreds, after the game they have to leave the stadium and live in Burnley.
-
For those of you watching, how is Diaby playing please?
-
I’d like a third.
-
I’d like a third.
This half, and then 3 more in the second half.
-
For those of you watching, how is Diaby playing please?
He looks the real danger man popping up with pace and is scaring them to death. Nothing has quite come off for him just yet.
-
Some of the faces in the crowd. Not only are they having to watch their team being ripped to shreds, after the game they have to leave the stadium and live in Burnley.
I shouldn't do, but made me laugh.
-
For those of you watching, how is Diaby playing please?
A few electric turns and touches, sharp passing as well, hardly just a head-down dribbler. You can tell the Burnley players are bricking themselves about him, and they should be.
-
What an interception from Torres.
-

Is he playing right up front, or dropping in to the number 10 role? Thanks MrFuse.

Thanks Monty.
-
Cash and Haaland level on goals for the season. All scored at Burnley. Cash was quicker by 16 minutes,
-
3 minutes Emery time.
-
What a first half performance. Superb.
-
Thought Watkins has a good half.
Cash outstanding.
Love how quickly we are turning and getting the ball forward.
Same again 2nd half.
-
Decent first half. Would like a third early in the second half, just to kill the game off.
-
"Dean-yah" NO! "Dinye" OK! Pay attention in French class you commentators! Grr!
-
Cash will clearly get all the plaudits but for me Kamara has put in an absolute masterclass there, absolutely dominant.
-
Some of the faces in the crowd. Not only are they having to watch their team being ripped to shreds, after the game they have to leave the stadium and live in Burnley.
That's not fair. Some of them live in Accrington. (Glory hunters)
-
"Dean-yah" NO! "Dinye" OK! Pay attention in French class you commentators! Grr!
You'd enjoy the Portuguese commentators I've got. 'Dingnngngngng'.
-
What an interception from Torres.
Weird to say after we've been so dominant and played so well, but that was perhaps my favourite moment of the half. It just oozed class
-
how good is Pau , proper settling in
in Unai we trust
-
Great half, a third early in the second half would make it a pleasant watch.
-
Everyone seems to know exactly what the plan is, and that plan is to be fucking awesome at football.
-
Look very sharp on the break and causing them all kinds of problems. As well as the two goals, we've a number of good situations that have broken down at the last moment.
-
Is there a better midfield pairing in the league at the moment than Luiz and Kamara?
-
Yeah, as good as our attack has been, I feel like Pau has been one of the best players on the field today
-
I'm liking this formation.
-
Cash will clearly get all the plaudits but for me Kamara has put in an absolute masterclass there, absolutely dominant.
He's been imperious. Apart from that one passage of play where conceded possession when he just let the ball roll away from him while stationary near their box. But easily forgiven :-)
-
Thank you 'guys' for the links to the goals.
:D :D
-
"Dean-yah" NO! "Dinye" OK! Pay attention in French class you commentators! Grr!
You'd enjoy the Portuguese commentators I've got. 'Dingnngngngng'.
Want you to play the ball my Dingaligne!
-
how good is Pau , proper settling in
in Unai we trust
Was just thinking that, while he was went past a couple of times the defensive setup covered for it - and there’s no denying how threatening his direct passes are. Each time they seem to bypass multiple lines.
-
Yeah, as good as our attack has been, I feel like Pau has been one of the best players on the field today
He looks very calm indeed, and clearly happy to bring the ball out under pressure. Haven't seen enough of him yet to feel entirely comfortable when he wants to dribble under pressure, so it gives me the heebie-geebies, but I'm sure that will fade over time. A very accomplished footballer.
-
Is there a better midfield pairing in the league at the moment than Luiz and Kamara?
Now that we're no longer under the radar and considered 'good' by most people, I feel like one of main things we have left that non-Villa fans don't really know about is how ridiculously good these two are. World class, both of them. Could play in any side in Europe.
-
That's been a cruise...should be a Hibs like scoreline at half time really. Was really anti wing backs but credit to Emery as Burnley seem clueless on how to deal with them. Our midfield is far too strong for theirs, Berge looks the competition player this week and will be surely hooked at the break. Watkins has been brilliant too. He got a fine assist but Diaby has been infuriating. That was a perfect through ball from Luiz he bottled really.
Early goal and finish them off.
-
The pressing from the midfield has been really impressive, hunting in packs, so effective.
-
We are so good and it just warms my heart.
Compare this to 18 months ago and that Fulham game that got Gerrard the sack.
Unai is the king!
-
i have a river, if anyone needs one message me
-
I worry slightly about the pace at the back against the top teams, Mings is a massive loss in that respect but Pau playing out from the back is quality.
-
I know it's crazy to think, but that was less than 12 months ago. Such a turnaround.
-
remarkably composed first half considering the absentises
Everyone looks good, konsa looking comfortable at right back.
-
That was a masterclass first half - so many stand out moments.
Torres/Carlos/Luiz/Kamara have totally dominated the spine which gives us the platform to play, while they deal with scraps.
Still 45 mins to go but Unai is a fucking legend!
-
I know it's crazy to think, but that was less than 12 months ago. Such a turnaround.
The Fulham game? Thought it was about 18 months. Wow.
-
Going to try again for a river whilst everyone is getting their pie :-\
-
Our midfield is as good as anything I've seen at Villa Park. And Pau is immense. Good times.
-
burnley have been completly locked out, they go left, right, back but if they go forward we're all over them. They're restricted to shooting from range, well one attempt they had. We shut up shop from the first whistle. They might try and come out the blocks 2nd half but if we just do what we've been doing one more and should be job done.
-
I know it's crazy to think, but that was less than 12 months ago. Such a turnaround.
The Fulham game? Thought it was about 18 months. Wow.
Yes mate. 20/10/22. Just over 10 months.
-
1-2 ffs
-
Shite
-
What a mess that was
-
FFS.
-
Frick
-
Flat and ball watching.
-
Crap.
-
Engage fear mode.
-
The game is never won at half time!! Concentration levels need to improve.
-
First shot on target
-
Come on villa don't mess this up.
-
Torres at fault for that.
-
carlos should of nodded that back to the keeper
-
The plaudits for Pau were perchance premature.
-
Fucking shite that from Torres.
-
Immediately quite sloppy.
-
Their goal
https://twitter.com/footbrowls/status/1695800228983570863
-
Not trying to bash him for the sake of it, but thought Olsen should've come and claimed the ball that Carlos had to try a flicked back header. Emi would've.
-
Diaby needs to cut out the little flicks to no one.
-
No need to panic but that was sloppy.
-
Not trying to bash him for the sake of it, but thought Olsen should've come and claimed the ball that Carlos had to try a flicked back header. Emi would've.
Yep
-
Just back from a day out to the joys of seeing Burnley score. And their fans getting behind them…
Ahhh normal service resumed.
-
Olsen half coming out then changing his mind didn’t help matters.
-
Olsen half coming out then changing his mind didn’t help matters.
Ball was in the air a long time and I wonder if he should have come to claim that ball.

Olsen half coming out then changing his mind didn’t help matters.
Ball was in the air a long time and I wonder if he should have come to claim that ball.
I don’t think he would have gotten there.
-
Olsen half coming out then changing his mind didn’t help matters.
Yeah a mixture of a new back line and Olsen behind them doesn't inspire confidence
-
Looks like Burnley's half-time oranges come with a dose of meth.
-
Come on ref get a grip

I find it pretty disconcerting to see Burnley playing in what was one of our shirts a couple of seasons ago.
It’s playing with my OCD
-
WTF! I had to find a new river and by the time I did they've scored! FFS!

Here we bloody go
-
What the fuck did they have to drink at half time?
-
When does the second half kick off
-
The curious return of the Villa related puckering sphincter.
I’ve not been right for a few days either, so I’m not trusting a fart.
-
Looks like Burnley's half-time oranges come with a dose of meth.
And ours are soaked in Night Nurse.
-
Oh Olsen

Oh Olsen
This doesn’t help.
-
And then he saves
-
Get it together, wtf.
-
Sometimes we seem to switch into panic mode.
-
To be fair, that was caused by one of Kamara's special "hand grenade" back passes that he likes to play every so often.
-
Where was the marking

Isn't there a double jeopardy where bookings are not given if a goal is scored, or is that just for keepers?
-
Zaniolo on for Diaby
-
Brilliant stuff from McGinn and Diaby again there. Good save.
Good save? It was straight at him, he never had to move. Poor finish.
His positioning was spot on and he spread himself well.

It also stuck to him. Excellent safe for me. He’s going to be an excellent keeper in a couple of years.

Nearly a stunning start for Zaniolo

Supporters sounding good, and I like the Zaniolo song.

Needed to pass there.

Supporters sounding good, and I like the Zaniolo song.

Needed to pass there.
I think he got a push as he went to shoot. Shame, that.
Zaniolo looks quicker than I thought.
-
I tell you what, I could develop a man-crush on Diego Carlos.
-
Have any managers who wear baseball caps ever won anything?

Zaniolo doesn't look like he knows where he's supposed to be playing.
-
I tell you what, I could develop a man-crush on Diego Carlos.
I saw him first.
-
I know it’s early days, but Zaniolo looks to be a good fit. He already understands the assignment.
-

He does. Not quick in the Diaby sense, but certainly faster than you expect of someone his size. Promising!

Ok, that's an appropriate comment and not a question.

Something hit the post. Not sure if was the ball or Olsen?
Edit. On replay, nothing hit the post.

Traoré is at right back for some reason, and it's causing problems cause he hasn't got a clue.
