Since I was a kid, I always went to Villa Park with my Dad and brother. But during the last couple of seasons my Dad has found the walk down the hill and up the steps a bit too much. I'd like to take my Dad to the European match, as a Hearts fan I'm sure he'd like to see us beat Hibs (my Mum's a Hibbie). So my question is, if you get a taxi to Villa Park for a match, how near do they drop you off to the ground? And how easy is it to get away by taxi?

Get an Uber, we used to get them right to the Trinity pre match. No problem at all so long as you don’t roll up minutes before kick off.
Post match you can get a cab (or mini cab prepared to break the law, they get you to ring and book from the back seat) there too but it’s a bit of a ruck to say the least.

Tenner from Colmore Row, no problem 😊

The Reverser now works as an Uber driver, so they say. If he happens to be your rider, he may well regale you of his tale of how he made a quick gettaway from the stadium on that fateful night 10 years ago...

Getting to Villa Park is probably £10, so not too bad. After the Brighton game we had to grab a taxi and he wouldn’t budge under £20. Mates had to pay £25 after Spurs iirc

A taxi rank would be a godsend

It really wouldn't. The problem isn't nowhere for them to wait. It's them getting out of the traffic around the ground.

Once I've managed to solicit a cab after the match, I've never had much of a problem with them finding less busy roads back to town. Fentham rd up to the A34 is a good one.

Same here, though I’ve only done it a couple of times when we’ve had to scamper to New St

Coming from town they usually get as far as where the old Adventurers was or of you're lucky, to where the A38 flyover is. It's very congested there with foot traffic after, but that's where the pre-booked taxis tend to wait too.
-
I guess it's for things like this the Terrace View etc would be decent value. Pint after the game and call a cab once it's quiet. Id consider this for my old man if I could persuade him to go, shame it's the wrong stand to be taking someone a bit frail to.

The exception to this is if you arrive at the ground early, maybe a couple of hours before kick off. Similarly after the game, if you can delay leaving a bit it becomes much easier.

We’ve that a few times when there have been train issues, a couple of pints in The Holte Suite and then an Uber once their pricing settles down.

maybe you need an african car reverser?

The road is closed off anyway after that point with those Traffix trucks blocking off the road

Tell him you pay for all his beer, that might persuade him

Thanks for the advice. main problem will probably be getting away as there is nowhere to sit comfortably and wait for the crowds to die down.

You should get a seat in the Holte Suite.
