Sky Sports have announced they will be broadcasting the first-ever Premier League Summer Series as Aston Villa head to the USA for their pre-season friendlies.
The friendly tournament will include six teams: Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham, Brentford and Villa. Five east coast states will host the nine games from July 23 to July 30.
The games will take place at five different stadiums including Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta), Exploria Stadium (Orlando); Red Bull Arena (New Jersey) and FedExField, Landover (Maryland).
Villa played their first summer friendly at Walsall, drawing 1-1 at the Bescot Stadium last weekend. Unai Emery's side will return to action on Sunday (July 23), kicking off their Stateside tour against Eddie Howe's Newcastle.

I think we should be having match threads and pre and post match threads for the summer series.
Get posters warmed up for the start of the Prem.

I know this is basically Premiership advertising, but it's a little disappointing that the bulk of our preseason is against teams we'll be playing in a few weeks/months anyway.
At least we've got 2 European teams to play afterwards for a bit of something different.

You appear to have come back from the off-season in fine fettle. No summer slacking off for F-V.

He's off for another break, apparently.

What a load of shite...facing-off against the same rabble we'll be in proper competition with in a few weeks time.
-
It's all about the EPL brand, man. Load of old bollocks.
-
It’s billed as a friendly competition, but how do you win the thing?

I’ve been to Philly, back in the 70’s. The City of Brotherly Love ❤️ , with a big sculptural clothespeg in the middle, and some great markets at the time.
What a toddling town! As Frank Sinatra used to sing.
Really liked it. They have boulevards. I stayed there in 1977, it was magic.
There was a city ordinance that nobody could build higher than William Penn’s hat (Which was on a famous statue on top of er…the Town Hall, I think.) Well, someone told me that at the time, it could have been a load of untrue.
So, the very best of luck to our lads and The Villa, for the entire tournament l👍😎🥂

The Philadelphia Lions are getting excited!

Nice to see the effort these people make to recruit new fans far and wide.

Good stuff.
I’m a keen consumer of content about the Philadelphia crime family.

Glad to see the kind words. I call it home now, absolutely love the place and will be in attendance this weekend.

You're not suggesting our Philly Lions know where the dead bodies are buried, are ya?
-
Philadelphia makes me think of two things.
One is the Philly Sound, which I love. Gamble and Huff, all that stuff, brilliant, life-affirming music.
The other is that I spent 2 or 3 days there in the late 1980s. All i can remember is the Rocky steps (obvs), that LOVE sculpture thing, the area around the Greyhound station being particularly ropey even by the standards of Greyhound stations, and the Liberty Bell being massively underwhelming (see OT threads passim).

On Sky
Did you hear Martin Tyler has retired and Peter Drury has come in
Great move as Drury miles ahead of Tyler as a commentator and will for me enhance the coverage of games.
Tyler became irksome

Going to the game in Orlando. Does anyone know if they will be doing open training sessions for fans to attend or how I would find that out. Thanks

Considering you loathe the club I don’t think anyone is expecting you to..

One of the first places in the USA I visited. I remember (vaguely) a Dollar beer night in a hotel down by the old Vet

Looks like the team are currently in Washington, D.C. The latest official video has them training at DC United's stadium.

Maybe there is a link with Christian Benteke as to why they are there
Also the Rooney factor.

Or maybe they just wanted to stay somewhere that's convenient and central for all 3 match venues. Apparently they're staying in Washington for the whole duration of the tour.
-
That doesn't make total sense to me . It's good the players can get a rest and Washington is safer than Philadelphia so in that respect its better suited.

You're right, it makes far more sense that they've chosen somewhere because of a player who left us 8 years ago, who none of the current management have any connection to. That's more likely than them picking somewhere with good facilities that's nice and central.

I heard they were staying at the White House, footy.

Well there must be an agreement with Premier league clubs or Emery has links to Arsenal still because Arsenal were in Washington just before Villa arrived and left.
Yes that makes sense regards central hub.

My mates had a good time at the Lions Club event in Philly yesterday. The two Emis, JPA and Elmo in attendance, photos taken and flag signed etc.
