I’m far too confident for this game then I have any right to be.

Imagine if spurs lose the early game and we know a win would pretty much guarantee Europe?

Anyway, back in the real world, 2-1 Liverpool.

I’m going to this, first time at Anfield in all my 49 years. I am also feeling confident for some reason as i was before Spurs. They’ve won 7 on the bounce, but a couple of those were 1-0 home wins over Fulham and Brentford, that arguably could of been draws. Still they have a forward line to be fearful off, but Im not convinced by their midfield or defence.

I hope Emery makes one change for this, hopefully bringing in Kamara for Bailey and shifting McGinn out to the right, to give us a solid looking four across the middle.

An unlikely 2-1 to us (Watkins, McGinn).

We've earned the right to go to Anfield with confidence and so we should given the season we have had. They are on a good run, 7 straight wins but sequences such as that are there to be bought to an end and who better than us to do it? Having said that, they have a CL place to aim for alongside our own ambitions but fortune favours the brave.

0-1

2 things I know for sure:

1. Unai will have a detailed game plan which will be carried out by the team.

2. We will give them a thorough test, or in the old vernacular, "we will give them a game".

I expect us to score at least once, but the odds favour them.

Fear that we are coming up against them at the worst possible time.

Didn't think we'd lose at Man Utd or Wolves but think we will lose this one.

3-1 to them.

So will the ref. Otherwise, nothing to fear, Anfield has been a happy hunting ground for us over the years.

I hope Unai and his team were at the crisp packet stadium last night and i hope he sees that playing such a high line (especially as the pundits now keep pointing it out) could be suicidal with their front 3.

Need a strong ref and VAR team but with them chasing a chumps league place i very much doubt we will get anything go our way.

Just hope we have a chance still going into the Brighton game as that really would be a cup final atmosphere

I fear a low defeat 1-0 with something contentious

Its like a huge European game for Unai Emery and I think we'll go close .
It may not be enough but we're a huge obstacle in the road these days for the top sides.
A virtually fully fit squad available so I'm going for a 2-2 draw to set us up for the final game.
What an an achievement that would be for the manager and players.

We will score first but, although our player was clearly in his own half, when the ball was kicked, VAR used a different match against them to show he was offside. They then get a penalty when one of their players clearly handles the ball, trips one of our defenders. VAR then takes a look and say, nothing to see there and give Liverpool 2 goals to compensate for us wasting VAR’s time and To get Klopp off their backs.
We then score in the 75th minute but the referee blows for full time so it doesn’t count. Result 0-2!!

Neville and Carragher didn't even mention the fact that we might have a bit of a say in the game. It was literally Liverpool will win both of their remaining games.

Any player is a nightmare for Alexander Arnold from a defensive point of view be it right back or new fangled role.
Southgate was spot on not playing him as right back for TAA is livability at defending.

It can go either way, they are now playing to put him in the quarter Back Roll.
He has got a great range of passing, so we need to make sure he does not have the freedom of the park.
Ramsey on that side is a weakness defensively, I would consider putting SJM over there.

Whenever me and my mate have a Toby Carvery before an away game we concede 3 goals.

A rare occasion of this failing was Liverpool away. We had a Toby Carvery and we still won 3-1 with Benteke.

Why this is the case, I don't know. We thought at one point it was down to the number of yorkshire puddings we stole when the guy wasn't looking. But taking the whole plate in Swindon was deemed inconclusive as it ended in a last minute 3-2 win.

I'm trying hard to work out whether we should have one or not. It could very well be the biggest factor in Saturday's result. I'm just surprised Emery hasn't been in touch to give us instructions in how to proceed.

Only Manure (12) and Chelsea (7), have more wins than us at Anfield in the Prem with 6.

And we have presumably played 4 less times there than Chelsea.

They seem to be on a roll, but when I've watched them recently, haven't looked that great. If we can stop Salah, we've got a chance.

Even a win quite possibly won't be enough. If Spurs win both remaining games 1-0, then we'd have to beat Liverpool and Brighton by a combined score of 5-0 or equivalent.

We have to look after our own business which is going to be hard enough. Spurs are very hot and cold so they could fuck up both games, and especially if they need to win at Leeds. Brighton were brilliant at The Bottlehad last weekend but tonight won’t be easy and Man City. They should win vs Southampton. We really need to hope we are in a position to win a place come the Brighton game. And even then it might not be enough if other results go against us. But given our improvement since Emery came in even being in with a chance to qualify when we play Brighton is some achievement.

This is true but Brentford will be no mugs at Spurs. Even without Toney they are a solid team and also have the incentive that by beating Spurs they will only be a point behind them.

The fact that they still have something to play for is a real positive.

Same here. My first trip to Anfield and still my favourite.

I see Klopp the twat has got a two game touchline ban. I assume it starts with our game. I doubt it changes much in terms of the match, but I'm sure the Asst ref and 4th official in particular are delighted

I’d always been a Villa fan in name as it was my family team, & I’d been taken to a few games, but this was literally the 2nd week of a lightbulb coming on.
The previous week I watched us beat Man U 2-1 from The Holte End, then the following week I watched this on MOTD having been out on a bonfire on wasteland at the back of our house eating jacket potatoes from the embers in the pouring rain. Came in, dried off, pyjamas on, fell in love with Frank Carrodus all in white with angelic blonde curls looking so sad when he scored an own goal.
My love of the underdog starts there.

The Champions League jig is up for Liverpool now that Newcastle have won their game in hand.

Just give starts to all their players playing their last games for the club and pretend it's an end of season friendly, Jurgen - with your ban, you can even put your feet up and watch from a box.

He was. It ends how it always ends, and it was the end for him as a manager too, but in three years he rebuit a team that just avoided relegation, won a cup, nearly won the league and gave us some of the best football I've seen at times.

Yes he had the money from Platty but you've got to use it well and he didn't fuck about. There was a sense of urgency and ambition that's often been lacking and I feel now with Emery.

I always hate playing these. Decisions from all of the officials always go their way. They cheat & foul & get away with all manner of shit while their banshee crowd shout "handball" in a phlegm induced high pitch whine at every opportunity to influence the officials. Then when we invariably get screwed out of the game by the hypocritical whiny little bitch crowd led officials, a load of my mates, who are Devon born "adopted scousers" despite never going further north than Exeter in their lives have the audacity to tell me over & over that my home town club is shit. If they weren't cowards & supported their hometown club of Plymouth, then they couldn't ever have that opportunity. Which is why they chose a club from the opposite end of the country that they have fuck all association with other than the happy coincidence of being one of the most successful. Liverpool fans, especially the Devon/Brummy "adopted scousers", are by far some of the worst fans in the world. Most people hate Manchester United fans, & for good reason, but Liverpool are the original scumbag set of fans. Their arrogance is legendary & I despise them & their whole club. Which is why we will lose this game because fate absolutely hates me. 😂

I've been to Anfield several times; usually to see Villa getting valiantly beaten. The game that sticks out for me was the one we won 3-1 when the Scouse Fraud (Slippy) got sent off for trying to decapitate Boeteng.
The one that remains most impressive was the Benteke-Weimann game (when our best player was - I thought - the ill-fated Chris Herd).

I'm nervous about today. I can't watch due to work commitments so will follow media updates and I'm sort of glad in a way.

But it's this feeling I need to dismiss on a regular basis. The desire to scream at the players to get rid and the feeling of panic when we pass it about at the back has abated almost completely so this is the next step. I'm certain the Manager and players will be walking onto the pitch with calm confidence and that's what we need to follow as fans.

If I can't follow the game until near the end I usually look on here to see if there are other threads that people have posted to other than the match thread. For example, if there are posts on the Unai Emery thread to the effect of "what a manager, we're so lucky to have him" or "everything spot-on tactics, game management, subs" then you can reckon that all is well before looking at the match thread. If the comments along the lines of "strange team selection" or poor substitutions made too late" usually means we're taking a pasting. Same for the Ollie Watkins thread "superb all round display" and "took both goals really well, deserves his ovation" is always good news, whereas "not at the races today" or "hopeless, but then they've all been" doesn't bode well. If I go straight to the Match Thread then the first comment is usually "FFS" or "Shit" irrespective of the score which usually causes a little bit of wee to come out.

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, Bailey, McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey, Kamara, Watkins.

Out of possession I reckon Bailey tucks in narrow, McGinn and Ramsey as the extra fullbacks.
