Now that the club have asked supporters to choose their official Player of the Season, it's probably time to have a proper poll on here. I've left it to what I thought were the most realistic contenders but if anybody really wants to vote for Olsen, Digne or Bailey, let me know, and I'll just ignore it. ;)
-
Kamara for me
-
It's Watkins isn't it? Feels a little basic to go for the man who does the goals but he's been exceptional, and his turnaround nothing short of insane.
-
Mings for me
-
I've looked myself in the eye and gone for Mings. He's cut out the mistakes and now looks like the player he always should have been, on a consistent basis. Passing has gone up a notch as well.
-
I voted Young in both polls. Unlikely to win it and probably not our best player over all the season, but thought his efforts and professionalism deserved some recognition.
-
Watkins
-
Kamara for me
I don't think he's played enough, or been consistent enough. At his very best, eg Spurs away he's been exceptional, but he's got to do it for more games, and maintain that level. And then there's Leicester at home, which was pitiful.
-

Toss up between him and Mings, but Ollie seems to have reverted to cow's arse/banjo territory for the last few games, so fickleness took over and I went for Mings.
-
You know it's a good season when there are lots of contenders, it was the same in 2020-21. I think you can make a case for Young, Watkins, Luiz and Martinez (Kamara's been out too much). But Big Tyrone gets my vote - 4.5 seasons with the club and it's time he was recognised.
-
It's between Douglas Luiz and Mings for me.
-

Plus taking all the shit the previous manager landed on him like a champ and proving him emphatically wrong.
-
Douglas Luiz, comfortably. Could have had his head turned by the Arse on Deadline Day, had his heart-broken by another Villa player but he knuckled-down and midfielded like a champ, consistently.
His English is still shite (watch Diego Carlos' Road to Recovery vid on Pravda to see him putting the hard yards in with his language teacher) but Hey Dugee is the one for me. Brilliant footballer and I hope he stays with us for years.
-
Mings for me too
-
Other than a couple of games, Kamara has been pretty much up there with the best Villa players on the pitch whenever he has been there, which hasn't been enough I'll grant you, but not his fault.
Easy to forget the SG games but they are part of the season we are judging them all on.
-
Mings, Watkins, Douglas in that order.
-
It's between Douglas Luiz and Mings for me.
Same, with Watkins and Martinez pretty close behind, those 4 have been the clear standouts for us. I've gone for doug in the vote but I did it on a coin flip.
-
I have voted for Douglas both here and on Club website.
-
Mings and Dougie a close second.
-

😂👏
-
Dougie for me.
-
Martinez. We’ve come to expect him to be brilliant, and it’s become his baseline, so many of his performances no longer ‘stand out’ as a result.
-
Doug. Mings, Watkins and Martinez also deserve huge credit.
-
After all the BS from the previous manager has to be Mighty Mings the Merciless for me. He could easily have just coasted out of the team but he stuck to his job and has proved himself time and again.
-
Mings for me. Pretty much an ever present, overcame the Gerard issues with total grace, and in particular since November has been magnificent
Luiz and close second.
Honourable mentions ( well to mos to be honest) to Watkins, McGinn, Kamara
-
Mings.
-

Watkins had a brilliant run but I'm thinking more of those who have been consistent across the season. Martinez is a good shout in addition to Mings and Luiz. He can settle for his World Cup winners medal and Best Goalkeeper awards and let one of the others have something.
-
Are we all guilty of taking Martinez a bit for granted?
-
Special-mention to McGinn. Since Emery has altered his game, he's been a revelation. I wanted him gone after being undroppable under Gerrard despite dross performances but the lad's turned things around so much. He's a credit to himself and the club.
-
Martinez closely followed by Mings.
-
Luiz with Mings a close second.
-
Are we all guilty of taking Martinez a bit for granted?
Maybe! He's made a couple of errors this season which, compared to previous seasons of virtual perfection, feels like a decline. He actually remains our best player.
-
Are we all guilty of taking Martinez a bit for granted?
If every great save was measured equally to a goal he'd be a 30+ a season striker. He gets my vote, 'Player of the Season Award', nobody comes close.
Dougie a distant second
Mings gets 'most improved this season' award
'Best half season turn around from shit to magic' award goes to SJM followed by Watkins.
-
1 Tyrone 2 Martinez 3 Ollie
-
Mings here.
-
Mings.
-
Tyrone for me too. The way he’s played and the way he dealt with the captaincy issue, excellent. Fully deserves an England recall. Unlikely with Southgate preferring Maguire the Magnificent.
-
I think it's getting difficult for even Southgate to keep ignoring him.
-
Mings here.
Mings there,,,
-
Kamara - oozes class and has been pivotal to our change in fortunes this season
-
Mings for me. May not be the captain, but he is still leads by example.
-
Mings, Luiz Martinez and Watkins is a great spine and all have performed.
If Kamara had been fit and Moreno with us since the summer they could have had a case too.
-
It’s brilliant that it could be between 4 or 5 players.
I’ve gone for Luiz, but very close with Ming & Martinez.
Ollie certainly won’t be far away either.
Kamara has had a great season too, but injuries have probably hindered his chances.
For most improved player I would look at Konsa. Under Emery he has certainly found a new lease of life.
-
Good call on Konsa though it's more recent than SJM and Watkins.
Best new signing would probably go to Moreno rather than Kamara purely based on the number of games played.
-

Agreed, it's a really difficult decision this year, which is fantastic.

Yep certainly better than the Stephen “Chelsea away” Ireland disaster.
-
Douglas Luiz, comfortably. Could have had his head turned by the Arse on Deadline Day, had his heart-broken by another Villa player but he knuckled-down and midfielded like a champ, consistently.
Agree with all that, he has probably been our most consistent performer this year. Before the season started, he also did some charity work back in Nova Holanda handing out much needed supplies. Perhaps the only blot on his copybook was breaking Alisha's heart but both teams' form picked up subsequently so...
-
Watkins.
Luiz most improved player.
Mings close, but Ollie scores goals.

I’ve considered all of them and would throw SJM in for his resurrection and Young for his sheer staying power. Great to have so many candidates. Mings for me, for the way he gave his all for a manager who might have royally pissed him off, and his continued good form and leadership.
-
1). Luiz
2). Mings
3). Martinez
-

3). Martinez
Same as me. I'm intrigued as to who it's going to be though as I don't see an obvious clear winner.
-
Best new signing would probably go to Moreno rather than Kamara purely based on the number of games played.
If I was putting money on it I’d guess the latter had played more this season?
-
Hard to choose between Dougie, Ollie, Big Emi and Mings, but I'm giving it Ty due to the way Gerrard tried to humiliate him at the start of the season.
-
I went for Doug on condition that he puts a direct corner past both Tottingham and Hove Olbyun
-
I would vote for Ollie if he agrees to have a vasectomy so he can get some sleep.
-
There are several contenders if the award was based on the last six months, particularly Douglas Luiz and Ollie. Based on the whole season though, it's got to be Tyrone.
-
Mings gets my vote, just ahead of numerous other candidates.
After recovering from the 'Gerrard' era, he has played an integral part and adapted to our new style of play in a brilliant fashion.
-
Ash deserves a special mention, he's been very consistent whilst being in and out of the team and was a huge part of the 10 match run. Love the guy
-
I would vote for Ollie if he agrees to have a vasectomy so he can get some sleep.
A bit late for that now isn't it. He's back to his postnatal worst.
-

You'd be right 21 appearances against Moreno's 17.
-
I voted Ollie but meant to vote Douglas!
Doh!
-

To be fair his partner is very attractive too!!
-
I would vote for Ollie if he agrees to have a vasectomy so he can get some sleep.
Wouldn't there still be some pain for a few weeks? The season would be over then, what a waste of snipping that would be. He can still go on to create more beautiful children.
-
We didn't have a proper vote in here last season, but just about everybody in the topic said Cash. The season before was Martinez. Mings didn't get a single vote that year, whereas Konsa got 20. What a turnaround.
-
I voted for Dougie.
But Mings has been Baresiesque lately
-
We didn't have a proper vote in here last season, but just about everybody in the topic said Cash.
Everybody, apart from Eamonn.
-
Mings for me. I would have loved Kamara but not enough games of course. Already looking forward to next season to see him have good number of games.
-

Everybody, apart from Eamonn.
;D Well-rememberred. I love the Cash but more for his nice fella next door vibe which I think influences the general view on him. As he has a lot of shortcomings and thankfully, Moreno has shown what a modern full-back needs to be able to do.
-
It's between Douglas Luiz and Mings for me.
Me too, Watkins had a great run but these two have been our most consistent all season. Luiz just about the best for me. Martinez has been very good in the main too.
-
Luiz cements his accolade with the winner today. Go Dougie!
-
I'm starting to think McGinn is the most improved player (among many) under Emery. He's been outstanding of late.
-
I went Martinez, because he's the one most likely to leave, and therefore puncture the feel-good.
Other contenders for me were Kamara, who is new, and Mings & McGinn, who I think are with us for as long as we want them (thankfully).
-
Impossible to see above Martinez - he has been magnificent so many points saved.
-
Impossible to see above Martinez - he has been magnificent so many points saved.
Plus he's very tall.
-
The reason I voted for Tyrone, was due to the shit storm at the beginning of the season, how he handled it and has ended up as one of the top defenders in the league since.
Agree that big Emi is taken for granted, not often we have that accolade to float around.
Meatball has blossomed later in the season, after a ropey start, so misses out this time.
Luis another shout out, especially after turning down Arsenal, which is another indication of what Emery has planned for the club; immediate trophies (Arsenal), or sustained success with us?
Bouba has had too few games, although another contender.
And last but not least, the perennial Young - loved him during his first stint with us, love him even more since he came back; he must be staying after retirement and follow in the footsteps of Delany & Jedinak.
-
Martinez then Mings, Luiz or Kamara. If he'd been able to play near enough a full season, it's prob Kamara.
Far more interesting battle would be if there was a most improved option.
Mings again would be in the shake up for that, but Konsa, Watkins and McGinn would be closer to the top - particularly if we're talking second half of the season.
-
Impossible to see above Martinez - he has been magnificent so many points saved.
Mings is one of my favourite Villa players ever, the way Gerrard treated him was disgraceful. The way he's responded and come back is amazing.
However, for me, Martinez makes everything tick at the back, so he gets my vote.
-
After a lot of deliberation I've plumped for Martinez. Long and short of it, in a season where accolades have rained down on him, it felt churlish not to. You could not help but give your best if playing in front of him, and he has become integral, even pivotal, in how we play.
Mings is still the most immense human being alive, though.
-
McGinn, Watkins and Mings are the top three for me but went for Mcginn. Not much in it though. All have been great.
-
Mings not just because of his on field performances but just the colossus of a man he is off the pitch. We have lots of great ambassadors of the club but none better than Tyrone.
-
McGinn, Watkins and Mings are the top three for me but went for Mcginn. Not much in it though. All have been great.
McGinn and Watkins only turned up after Christmas.
-
Harsh but...
-
Unsderstand all of the above. Stiil, I'm voting for Young because without his [performances since Cash's absence we would have been in real trouble.
-

Mings is the most improved I think. This is by far his best season with us in the PL. He has reached a level I really didn't think he was capable of. All the others I always thought had the ability to kick on with a top class coach. Luiz needed to up his application to match his ability and he has done that spectacularly. Aside from Martinez, I think he's the one that's going to have the most interest in him from CL.clubs this summer.
-
Young has been outstanding.
-
Tyrone for me too. The way he’s played and the way he dealt with the captaincy issue, excellent. Fully deserves an England recall. Unlikely with Southgate preferring Maguire the Magnificent.
I just love Mings. He gives everything , dominates the defence, always body on the line, he’s intelligent well spoken and keeps things balanced. He’s our captain really
He’s my captain
-
Unsderstand all of the above. Stiil, I'm voting for Young because without his [performances since Cash's absence we would have been in real trouble.
I second all of the above ! If it wasn’t for a couple of Cash’s injuries and therefore Young’s extended game time, I would have voted Mings
-
My top 3
1. Douglas.
2. Tyrone Mings who has come back to exceptionally well despite losing his captaincy and position on the team.
3. And Ollie Watkins for record-breaking scoring season.
-
And not a Spanish speaker amongst them.
-
olé Watkins.
-
I think I'd narrowly give it to Mings, but Martinez and Young have been amazingly consistent too.
-

Well, Gerrard's long gone so our fearful trip is done. Let's hope the prize we sought will soon be won...
-
I voted for Martinez on the OS and he kept us in it again on Saturday. A ridiculous bargain at £17m.
-
It's a tough one to call but I went with Ashley Young. He has been outstanding this season and I doubt that even he wouldn't have expected to play so many games.
One of our leaders on the pitch too. A real pro. I hope he sticks around for another year.
-
I went for Doug on condition that he puts a direct corner past both Tottingham and Hove Olbyun
I predicted Doug. I was right. I shall now post on all the threads spreading the sticky seed of my undeniable knowledge
-
And not a Spanish speaker amongst them.
Douglas does understand, and played in Spain. He passed his English exam during lockdown, and he hasn't looked back

I voted for Douglas purely and simply because since passing his English exam he hasn’t looked back. And also because he understands Spanish.
