Next game is a few days away. Should be a packed Villa Park. Our home form recently has been very good and I expect we will be markedly better than today after Emery gets into the players. Still easy to forget how well we have done of late, and we are going for 10 unbeaten which is incredibly hard to do at PL level.
Hopefully Emi is fit and ready to go because the thought of 90 minutes of Olsen not just makes us as fans collectively shit our pants but more importantly the players, especially our defenders, are much more cagey when playing with him.
But I'll go for a solid 2-0 win - Ollie and SJM
-
0-2.
-
2-0 to us and Franky gets to visit Villa Park. Everyone's a winner! 8)
-
My big hope is that Emi’s stomach bug doesn’t spread around the camp.
If we’re ok on that, we’ll win. I have no doubt… today was like a hangover, almost like the team sensed the insecurity.
We’ll have better days - Brentford away is not an easy game. And I think we’ll best Fulham this time around.
-
A big night at Villa Park. If Emi's back we win.
3-0
-
Glad your looking forward to it boys, we are finally finding a way to play without Mitrovic, I don’t think your two centre halves will be doing much heading in the game, even if Vinícius starts, he a poor replacement for Mitrovic, plus our crosses have been quite shite, we seemed to picked up since the Old Trafford debacle, saying that we’ve only beaten two crap teams in Everton and Leeds, and I’m pretty sure you’re give us a proper test, as somebody who at the start of the season would have happy with 17th on goal difference, I’m chuffed that we could be west London champions, I’m glad you’ve done so well since getting rid ofGerrard, and getting a real manager, I’m enjoying the relegation battle, if would be nice if one or two of the so called big clubs were relegated I’m looking at you Everton and Leeds!! enjoy the rest of season and try not to turn up nose at European football, it gave me one of the best seasons in 50 years of going to Fulham, 2009/10 was brilliant
-
Believe me Franky we'd be ecstatic with Europa League and pretty damn pleased with Conference!
-
Emi plays, 4-0. Olsen plays, 2-2.
-
Very tricky - our squad is so stretched it’s going to be tough to keep the levels up.
-
FYI, this is a 7:45pm ko.
I think we'll win 2-0.
-
I was relieved to hear that it was illness rather than an injury with regard to the Keeper so he should return. The presence of Olsen genuinely can be the biggest influence on the result such is the chasm in ability between the 2 players.
We should prevail, keeper issue being OK but I've always felt that this is a tricky little fixture, midweek and all and could surprise a few.
1-1
-
We could do with Bouba, Matty and Philippe back for this - at least on the bench as quality options. U E said at the Forest presser that they were 10 to 14 days from returning, that was over 2 weeks ago. I hope Emi Martinez has recovered as none of us want Olsen! What is wrong with Jed Steer? He's been out for ages. Anyway, 2-1 to us.
-
1-0 win. Ollie
-
They are playing better without Mitrovic they i thought they would, but as the Fulham fan said, its been poor Everton and Leeds sides they have beaten.
I think it will be a tight game anyway but the goalie factor is huge. If Emi is back, ill go with 1-0, Watkins. If Olsen is in, I can’t comprehend.
-
We could do with a couple of our injured back, particularly Kamara and Cash.
Obviously we need EMI in goal.
-
Worried about this. We looked leggy yesterday and Fulham will be a tough match. They must be feeling it as well at this stage of the season though. It's a draw for me.
-
Worried about every game against good teams - which, in this league, happens about once every two games on average at least.
That said, Fulham really aren't the same side without Mitrovic.
-
Think we'll win this by a couple of goals.
-
Don’t forget though that when Villa players are expected back in 2 weeks, that usually means it’s a career ending injury!!
-
Depends on the keeper - Olsen in goal I am worried, Emi recovers we win simple as that
-

Good to see you about Franky, hope you're well. Guess you're pretty happy with your season so far? Fairly safe, an unlikely-but-feasible good run would put you up along with ourselves, Brighton, Spurs & Liverpool... hopefully stay ahead of your neighbours for the rest of the season too. No real opinion on Brentford, but have a strong dislike of the other lot. And I like Craven Cottage, so...
My confidence will be entirely based on who's in goal. Apparently we score every game now, so Emi in goal and I'm pretty confident. Olsen in goal, I worry we don't have that many goals in us!
-
I'm going for probably the only time this season, so a tense and frustrating 1-1 beckons.
-
I’m going, first time since Watford after the covid re-start.
Will go for the same result, 3-2 Villa
-
I'm not displeased that Fulham have won their last two games, I think a narrow win, 2-1.
-
Worried about every game against good teams - which, in this league, happens about once every two games on average at least.
That said, Fulham really aren't the same side without Mitrovic.
I watched them at Everton and it was a different profile to how they've played this season. They had Dan James and Harry Wilson in false 9 roles and Everton couldn't cope.
O.k Everton are terrible and we're not but it's completely different from them starting Vinicius as poor man's Mitrovic and just hitting endless crosses.
Their midfield unit is excellent aswell.
We'll have to scrap this one out I think. Can see this being our first comeback win under UE.
Chambers and Digne arguably did enough to start just to freshen up in a key position although Moreno has been brilliant in the home games recently and we need to be on the front foot in this one from the start.

I'd go with Chambers at RB if Cash ain't back. Game too far for Young I think. Other options are very limited with all the injuries but Emery might be tempted to give Traore a game at home.
-
It's a shame they have such unfortunate nicknames - the Whites and the Cottagers.
-
I would probably start with the same outfield team that finished on Saturday.
-
Any updates on cash/kamara from the presser?

There are only the brief quotes on the OS at the moment, will need to wait for the video to be uploaded to get injury info I think.

Actually, there's a specific injury update on Twitter:

All still out. That 10-14 days estimate was bang wrong for all of them :(

Not great re Martinez.
-
Bloody hell, Emery said that all three (Cash, Kamara, Coutinho) were 10-14 days away from being available, and that was over two weeks ago now, and yet all three appear to be nowhere near returning.

Emery and his lying ways out!
-
It's just odd, you'd have hoped that at least one of them would have been on track.

Possibly brought Kamara back too early last time and are now being ultra, ultra, ultra cautious.

There's some kind of injury timeframe miasma that affects every manager in Bodymoor Heath
-
Cash is the really strange one from that list, the talk from both Poland and the club suggested he'd be out for about 3 weeks (both in timesclaes they gave and the recovery time for the injury they said he'd suffered) meaning he would've been an outside bet for Newcastle and should've been available for Brentford. for it to now look like he might not be back until May is pretty strange.
The other one that worries me is Coutinho who just seems to have disappeared after his best performance of the season, which is really frustrating.
-

Not being available tomorrow doesn’t equate to ‘nowhere near’ though does it?
If they’re not 100% then better to not risk them for a home game against Fulham to try to make sure they’re ready for a much tougher game at the weekend.

Presser summary from the Villa app.
Unai Emery was in front of the cameras at Bodymoor Heath on Monday afternoon for his pre-match press conference.
The Aston Villa head coach was quizzed on several topics as he previewed his team's Premier League clash against Fulham.
Here's what he had to say...
On team news...
“Hopefully, Emiliano is ready for tomorrow.
“We are going to know tomorrow morning when we meet to prepare for the match.
“The other players are not players to add for tomorrow, those who are now injured are progressing well but are not ready for tomorrow yet.”
On his philosophy…
“I need to play under pressure because, to me, to play under pressure means you can achieve and you can be successful in your career.
“Trying to be positive when you’re not winning, you have to be. Practice, practice, practice every day and try to get better every day.
“Then, when you are facing each match, try to play thinking this is the most difficult match of your life. That is my idea to create here.
“First is trying to face each match feeling like you have to do your best performance and respecting the opponent. At the end, when you are playing under pressure you are changing it being positive because you have prepared for it.
“That is a long, long process with a lot of practice, analysis, and you need a lot of conversation with them to convince them to do it.”
On Douglas Luiz’s importance…
“His qualities are necessary for us and for the idea I have to create a team, it’s very important. He’s very important and he has big potential.
“He can progress more. I’m trying every day to support him and to push him to do one more step ahead as a player. He’s doing it and he’s working very well.
“He is taking responsibility on the pitch like I want. We are being demanding of him to do more because he can and he can take steps ahead.
“His qualities are very important for the idea I want to create in this team. I want to get the best of him for us.”
On Fulham…
“I like their coach a lot. (Marco) Silva is a very good coach. He’s very experienced here in the Premier League and has been successful.
“They are a very organised team. I try to take my personal challenges and to play against them – how we can play against them, how we will be organised against them offensively and defensively, how we can perform against the very good players they have.
“As a coach, tactically, I expect a lot from them.”
He added: “They have a lot of different, tactical ways to play against us. For us, tomorrow will be a very difficult match.
“After the last matches we played at home, keeping four clean sheets and playing very well against Newcastle, they are going to respect us more than normal.
“They are going to face us being strong. It’s going to be a good match for me, our players and our supporters facing them and showing how we can add to the last matches.”
-

They've not even been pictured training, so can't think that they'll be close to being available.
-
Being light in numbers hasn't really hurt us on the pitch yet, given we are without four players who were first-team regulars when fit. That surely won't last until the end of the season. There are a couple of positions now where our cover on the bench is really light, and the drop off in standard if we lose anyone from our first 11 (which pretty much picks itself) is getting quite big. I really hope a couple of those players are back and available by the weekend.
-
Out of the four regulars missing, I don't think Coutinho or Bailey have a future with us past the summer. Kamara is obviously a big loss but we needed to get a good look at the Donk anyway. Cash is the one we are badly missing right now as a 37 year old full back shouldn't be playing as many PL games in quick succession. Emery might be tempted to replace both full backs tomorrow night just to freshen the team up.
I'm surprised that we haven't seen a minute of Carlos as of yet since his return to the squad.
-
The thing I guess for Carlos is now he's fit again he's got to learn the 'Emery Way' too.
-

At least he speaks Spanish so that should make the process a bit quicker.
-
Without wanting to be too much of a dick towards him, if Olsen plays we lose. And not just because he's totally incapable of making any sort of save, but our whole game now involves using the keeper as an outfield player to pass the ball around at the back.

I think you're right, his impact on how we recycle the ball around our defence is exactly why we looked such a mess for 20-25minutes after he came on. His handling isn't great but probably isn't much worse than most reserve keepers at this level, it's everything else about his game that means we miss Emi so much.
-
Here's what he had to say...
On team news...
“Hopefully, Emiliano is ready for tomorrow.
“We are going to know tomorrow morning when we meet to prepare for the match.
One day he will be able to say "Unfortunately Emi is not fit for the game but /* insert name of future ice-cool safe-hands understudy here */ will take his place on goal so we don't give a fuck actually. FTF!"
Unfortunately, he too seems to be hoping that he doesn't have to pick Olsen.
-
After Saturday and looking at our remaining fixtures this is a game we must win if we want to qualify for European football. Really need Kamara back to make us more press resistant. Too much is falling on Dougie right now.
-
We're winning tomorrow.
FTF.
-
Really need Kamara and Cash fit. The players have done remarkably well with this unbeaten run, but I can't help thinking some rotation is necessary to avoid players running out of steam and derailing these last few decisive fixtures......
-
Kamara pictured on social media with protective boot on so he's still weeks away. Just rushed him back too early so even when he's fit again he'll be a sub like he was when he came back in November.
Yeah no idea why Cash is taking so long, must've been an injury setback at some point.
Wouldn't surprise me if Chambers is at RB tomorrow just to freshen up as he did alright coming on although starting a match there is a difference challenge.
-
Two and a half weeks ago:
"Kamara not available. We are waiting for his progress. His injury is more or less 10 days or two weeks. He’s not going to play tomorrow. Other players are still - Philippe Coutinho and Matty Cash - injured. Both. The same with Kamara, different injuries but are more or less 10 days, two weeks, thinking that they will come back."
The Dean Smith is strong in this one, see you next season lads!

Feeling quite positive about this one. Nothing against Fulham. 3-1 to us.
-
We win and Brentford don't then I think we are in a very strong position to finish 8th at the very least.

Emi doesn't look to clever in that photo. It looks like whatever it was, took it out of him quite a bit.
So glad he can make it for tonight.
-
Screaming with joy.
-
Oh thank Christ, was just thinking if they'd named the team two hours before the game instead of one I'd check before setting off.
-
I can't remember the Villa having to play a player so bad that it would almost certainly have a negative influence on the game. Goal keeper is obviously a highly specialised position, so maybe that's why.
-
I used to think it was a case of Emi being too good to replace rather then Olsen being so poor, but he really has put in some bad performances of late. Can't be an easy shadow to stand in though.
Whilst it doesn't feel quite so important as the toon game I hope we get a similar atmosphere tonight. Hadn't heard VP like that for an age...
-
We win and Brentford don't then I think we are in a very strong position to finish 8th at the very least.
We win and we're five clear of Brighton. They may have three games in hand but that's a decent gap at this stage of the season and I'm hopeful Forest will hold them given their cup efforts.
It would be good to win and then Brighton and Liverpool fail to win tomorrow so we have a buffer over those two going into Man. United.
Knowing us won't be as straight forward as that given it took two months to just get into the top 10.

And Brighton have to play us still, so it's only really two games in hand in effect if you look at the points they can win.

Brighton also got both Manchester clubs at home as spare games and Newcastle away.
They're a good team so they'll win games in run in but it's not going to be 6 or 7 of their last 9.
Look at their bench on Sunday:
Undav, Veltman, Colwill, Ayari, Buonanotte, Van Hecke, Gilmour, Offiah.
They have fewer options to rotate than we do so they will struggle just playing the same 11 ever 3-4 days against many high intensity teams.
-
They're a good team Brighton but you'd think that sooner or later their hectic schedule will catch up with them. Even if it doesn't and they finish above us, with Liverpool and Spurs left to play, 6th place is very much in our own hands. A win tonight and we're 5th. Sod the games in hand, I'd rather have the points.
-
I just want a big win please.

It's going to be almost impossible to get a stand in keeper as good as Emi, but anybody we do have should at least be able to do the basics, instead of just standing there shivering in fear like a shitting puppy.

After the Stevenage game I think peoples opinion of him became pretty cemented and he knows it... Will be interesting to see is we go to market with a keeper in mind during the Summer.

Yep. And win tonight and it's a four-horse race for 5th and 6th.

No, it's STH only and they scan your ticket on entry. You can often just walk into the Holte Pub though

Newcastle and Fulham away, were our worst performences to date, we've rectified, for want of a better word, the Newcastle result and providing Emi does play, I'm confident we will the Fulham result tonight, 2 nil Villa.

We owe them a battering and a gift after the game thanking them for one of the best things to happen to us. That comes second to losing the playoff final ultimately leading to NSWE buying us and eventually Dean taking over from cabbage head. Which reminds me, we should build a statue honouring Glen Whelan's penalty miss at some point.

They're well comfortable in the league, it's a good time for them to take the beating they're owed.

Replace the piece of paper in McGregor's hand on the statue with a cabbage.

Absolutely. I'm loving our points total even when we were 11th for so long, we were still in touching distance with the top 4. A win tonight is essential though I'm expecting another tough game.
-
Think Chambers may take Youngs place as i would want him there for the red filth on Sunday
Other than that i cannot see any other changes with possibly Traore coming on if and when we may need him to provide some width.
In an ideal world it would be a nice 3/4 to nil to help goal difference and to hold 5th place until Thursday evening at least.
I have everything crossed

Aye, get Berty on as the super sub to make it 3 ;)
Arguably our last 'easy' game going forward to the end of the season. If we play anywhere near as good as we did against the toon we'll be laughing. We were unplayable that day.

They’ve just hit and up tick in form. I hope we do this comfortably, but might be tricky.

At some point I'd be excited to see Duran get a start or at least more minutes. He's pretty fast so should be fine pressing if he's learned the movements, and I feel like he could be one of those 'memorable first goals' type of guys.

Not sure that is a recent photo. They’re both wearing Kappa gear.

Looks like problems on the Cross City line due to a broken rail causing cancellations at the moment and with no indication as to when it will be fixed. This really has been a terrible season for travel.

Does she need a lift?
She’s been here for a few hours now but thanks for the offer.

30 mins from Mere Green right now. Unexceptional

Don't care how much cheaper and more environmentally friendly coming up to my folks by rail is any more. Driving up next time. Public transport just too unreliable...

2-1 btw. Close but entertaining game

Tunnels in town were slow but the Walsall Road was fine.

I just want a big win please.
So do I, please.

If he could turn back time I'm sure he wouldn't have posted it.
