Saturday, 3pm kick off.
We go again 8)
I suppose most of us are counting down the hours until this one and can barely contain ourselves.
Let's be honest if we don't win here it'll be points dropped and an opportunity missed. But I believe in the team and the manager.
3-1 to Unai's boys.
FTF.
-
You forgot the poll. Tsk, amateur! ;)
-
fuq ze fuqqaz
-
We're a team bang in form, while they're most certainly not and have a shocking away record. What could possibly go wrong?
-
Would anyone fancy playing us at the moment?
If i was a Forest fan i would be shitting my pants as they really have not travelled well this season.
Score early and this could be a rout
4-0
Duran to come on and get his first
-
Steve Cooper has had a vote of confidence.
Aston Villa: Hold my beer...
-
Can we get an adult in the room to sort this out properly with a poll etc please? ;D
-
Have you read the
death threat club statement from the Forest board today? It's do or die for them on Saturday.

I really hope he scores soon, always looks exciting and enthusiastic when he comes on.

As I have stated before, this is the match that stood out for me when the fixtures were released but if you had told me that we would be 7th, on the run that we are on and playing the way we are I would have you down as the Coconut King of Fantasy Island (copyright G. Gavin, BRMB).
A full house, Sat 3pm during an extended Bank Holiday weekend, one team desperate for points, the other in white hot form, it's got all the makings for a rip snorter.
0-0
Nah, not really.
3-2
-
Third home game on the trot for me. First time since the early '90s.
-
Need to put some work in on our goal difference.
-
I'm going for a draw again (well, you know why).
-
1-1 when we should have scored about 19
-
I think this will be a proper shoeing. Us 5, them 0.
-
We won't come a (Roy) cropper on this, will we?
Even in '98/99 when we were going through the muvva of all bad runs, we dispatched of this lot (did we relegate Big Ron in the process?).
I feel aggrieved that we're 7th but still with a minus goal-difference. How? I don't recall us getting trounced apart from at Fulham.
And as fond as I am of Norwich coming third in '92/93 with a negative GD, I want us to get Champions League with +20. You don't ask, you don't get. On that basis, it's Aston Villa 5 Nottingham Forest 0.
-

The three defeats on the spin were a combined minus 6, so that didn't help.
-
Villa 3 Forest 1. Watkins 2 and Ramsey. I do hope Forest stay up though. A club with great past achievements - like 2 European Cup wins! Something Man City have never achieved despite the dodgy oil money.
-
I hope they stay up as it's another easy ground to get to, and Nottingham is quite nice as well.
-
Change the poll to how many we're gonna put past them instead.
4-1 Watkins, Mings, Buendia, Duran. Chettle with a late consolation for them.
-
Villa win.
3 wins in a week.
Bring it on.
-
Resounding win and not conceding required. I see no other outcome.

Remember in 95-96 battering them home and away only for them to knick draws in both games
-
Not many of our points have come from draws - we tend to win or lose, rather than win less but draw more. So the goal difference is pretty even.

I seem to recall Savo missing some good chances.
-
I reckon they’ll be massively hyped up for this one for a couple of reasons. Firstly their manager is on notice so I think they’ll be playing for him and, secondly, because it’s us.
Somebody said to me in another context today “pride comes before a fall” so it’s sort of nagging away at me which is a product of years of underachievement. However, my more rational self is confident that Unai will have us properly prepared again and it will be another 3 points.
-

We'll batter them. They're shit, and even under Gerrard we only didn't win because they had ten men in their own half for pretty much the entire game.
-
I don’t like this over confidence stuff though.
Get an early goal and then we will be fine, they are going to defend deep and try and hit us on the break, they have a dangerous front 3. Fortunately even from the cast of 5000 they are pretty poor midfield and defence.
-
I quite like that Gibbs’s White although he was pricey ( not the Chris variety)

We did beat them in the cup quarter final though.

If that cross headed towards McGinn now it would get battered in so hard it would lift up the goalposts in a Hot-Shot Hamish stylee.
-
Forest are awful away and we are full of confidence, has to be a win. 4-0 please
-
200-0.
-
Will piss myself if we lose.
Not really.
But imagine if we do.
-

We could lose, but what I genuinely can't imagine is us turning up with a limp display out of nowhere.
-
0-2.
-
5.1 Time to fell some trees
-
Looking forward to us getting another manager the tin tack.
Shame really, I'd rather Forest stayed up than all the other sides down there, but needs must when you're gunning for a Champions League spot, eh.
-
Aston Villa. Manager killer.

Not to be confused with Sçorchio.

Finish off a third managerial reign in three games. Score first and we will win. Should do comfortably

Forest to stay up, Bournemouth, PLEASE, to go down.
We get a good allocation from Forest, next to sweet FA from Bournemouth.
For away fans it's a fecking nightmare!
Just need Forest to get good results in their other games.
I'm very confident we'll win this but will be harder work than some think!
COYVB!
-
I find the scorchio thing really funny since it upset someone on the match thread against Chelsea.
Three scorchios to one, imo 8)
-
It didn't upset me. It is just annoying when you get the goal monitors with their pre-pasted comments two minutes before it happens on your TV screen. I stated my opinion and got a load of gob for it. A mod has ruled that it is ok for people to do Scorchio stuff and I have said that is fair enough. I won't mention it again.

No worries mate. Just found it funny tbh.
-
All good. There's a lot of mirth to be had on here.
-
Forest looked an absolute abject clown show against Leeds last night.
We'll funeral these fuckers.
-
I think it will be close. They will be up for it and emotional, we need to stay calm and composed.
Until we let loose and rip them to pieces!
-
I like Forest because of memories of their early 80s team and Cloughie. I like Steve Cooper, i think he’s a good manager and has done a good job there. I hope they stay up.
I think we’ll dick them 3-0 (Watkins 2, Ramsey).
And it will all be set up for a huge game against Saudi Arabia.
Missing this one as working up Glasgow for the whole weekend, the missis is taking the kids, Im gutted. UTV
-

I really think we will, if we get an early goal it could get very messy for them.
-
I have put draw, because I did for Chelsea and Leicester. I agree if we get early goal we could have a big win, which will help our goal difference. At the moment our gd is like another point for the teams around us.
-
All good. There's a lot of mirth to be had on here.
That's good. What about Gold and Frankincense? ;)
-
We're all very confident, aren't we?
And we all know what that usually means.

Of late under Emery, a Villa win
-

I was confident against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Leicester, and we won all three!
-
Emery truly is a magician!
-
3-2 win.
Stobart, McCleod, Broadbent for us. Hennessy and Storey-Moore for them.
-

Yes, i like them too, and i hope they stay up especially above the likes of Bournemouth, Leeds and West Ham. I still hope that we FTF though, but i'm predicting a 5-5 draw.
-
I think if we want to be a big club again then we have to think big and start to expect to win certain games. Not in a United arrogant way but based on logic and what we see in front of us
We are learning all the time from previous mistakes and i am actually enjoying the play from back to front without shitting my pants each time Mings / Konsa /Martinez pass it around.
We need to come out of the blocks on Saturday and get an early goal which will destroy any game plan they may have
-
I'm watching MOTD from last night. Leeds look shit and they still should've battered them. They are a shambles. 5 goals on their travels all season. There is nothing other than irrationality to make me believe we'll do anything other than get another manager the tin tack within minutes of kick-off.
-
Forest looked an absolute abject clown show against Leeds last night.
We'll funeral these fuckers.
Hope so ;D
An early goal and I think it will be a great day.
Bit concerned about the confidence but I understand it.
-
You can picture how the game will pan out, hopefully an early goal will cue an avalanche. Saturday will just be a question of taking our chances.
-
We need to hand out a good funeralling so that Emery gets to gives Carlos some minutes on the pitch. I think he's reticent to do so in tight matches. Quite rightly.
-
Blasts from the past...I remember seeing Johnny MacLeod score for us direct from a corner, back in the good old bad old days...think Terry Hennessey went to Derby and Peter Storey-Moore to Arsenal...
-
Forest's away record
P14 W1 D3 L10 F5 A34
The win was at Southampton at the beginning of January.
-
I've been confident going into games before, but with Emery there's something different.
Whereas previously it always felt like our good performances were temporary, based on a kind of fragile chemistry that could fall apart at any moment, there's a sense of assurance now that I can't remember having.
You just know that even if we lose a few games, Emery has laid the foundations for a style of play that really works and it's not about luck any more. Or rather, our approach means that we largely make our own luck.
Genuinely looking forward to every game now.
-

Welcome back Moby old chap. How you keeping?
-
Will be great if we can keep our winning run going as Spurs are playing Brighton this Saturday.would be nice to close the gap on
One of those 2 teams.
-
Should be a good atmosphere and hopefully we will start quickly. Early goal and it could be a convincing win.
-
I wonder if Duran could get a start for this one.
-
I wonder if Duran could get a start for this one.
Not a chance I'd have thought.
-
The only think I like about Nottingham Forest is Stuart Broad.
-
No, think he may go for Traore in place of Bailey though.
-
I hope Forest go down...any club that invests in charlatans like Aurier, Shelvey and Lingard deserves to.
-
Will piss myself if we lose.
Not really.
But imagine if we do.
We could lose, but what I genuinely can't imagine is us turning up with a limp display out of nowhere.
That’s the thing now. We could always lose a game. And of course we will. But it won’t be because we haven’t planned thoroughly to beat our opponent. It’s sport. Shit happens. But the best teams with best preparation generally win more than they lose as we are finding right now.
-
Batter them sympathetically as have soft spot for them. They will be up for it but we could add another kill mark on our tally and I wouldn’t want to play us. 4-1 us.
-
If Forest do go down it will put our 19/20 season into a more positive light. We also had to put a squad together in a short space of time, having been promoted against expectations, whilst relying on key loan players. Just staying up was a considerable achievement. I worry for their finances if they don’t make it.
-
5-5 draw
-
5-5 draw
No Cash this time.
-
Or Andre.
-
Tammy missing......he got 4 in that 5-5 draw!
-
The tricky trees will be felled.
4-0 to Aston Villa.
-
There is so much optimism for Saturday so naturally, I'm fearing capitulation and disaster.
-
I think a 1:1 is on the cards they’ll be happy with a point.
-
2-1. Regis and McGrath. Roy Keane for them
-
Well the Guardian have finally come to the Emery party in their "10 things...", although in keeping with their lazy, starry eyed brand of journalism once again focus on Chelsea at the expense of Wolfs and bizarrely, are tossing off over the same inconsequential striker as they did seven days ago.
-
I’m sure there will be a couple slip ups between now and the end of the season - but if we are to get European football we need to win this and get the points on the board. We should do - Ollie has scored more away goals in His last 6 games alone then they have all season.
I have this nagging fear, but I did v Leicester and I think the crowd will be bouncing. An early goal be lovely
-
I’m sure there will be a couple slip ups
Couple OF. OF.
-
I have this nagging fear, but I did v Leicester and I think the crowd will be bouncing.
I think as Villa fans it's going to take a long, long time to get those nagging doubts out of our system, we've been 'typical Villa' for way too long. Emery's changing all that though.
-
An early goal for us is key. They won't be able to sit back if we do get it.
3-0.
-
Our negative goal difference will be getting right up Unai's hooter. He will demand a victory.
3-1 to the villa.
-
The GD that’s down to Emery is +8 though.
-

3-1 to the villa.
I think he'll be more annoyed by us conceding a goal against these.

You've got to admire the efficiency of averaging a win and a draw every fortnight with a goal difference of +1.
-
The GD that’s down to Emery is +8 though.
But that is not reflected in the League table. It just shows Aston Villa -1 to the normal Joe Soap in the street.
-
I don’t like it when people start to notice us. History tells us we then lose to Wimbledon at home 3-0.
-

Gerrard musta been shit but I only recall one pummelling, at Fulham. I think the table-creators have been adding up our goals conceded wrong.

Not too bad thanks, Mr W. Still a bit (a-hem) 'mobility-challenged' but glass half full mentally. Hope you're well. Always read and enjoy your Birmingham Post articles. Certainly helps that the Boys are fulfilling the promise they were bought for at last, thanks in no small part to the Basque Magician. Reminds me of those Euro trips we made in the late 90s, specially the Bilbao visit. The Basques were such a blast, passionate, friendly. Unai is cut from the same cloth of course. Makes you wonder why Arsenal pushed him out. And a World Cup winning keeper-to-be. Haha! I don't post much here unfortunately but do like the match threads. Just shows the different ways folks here follow games; personally, the 'scorchio-gate' sub-thread was a bit of a laugh to read. Suppose it was because I could see a bit of both sides but nevertheless a 'scoorrchiiiiioooo' is nearly always Good News so a vote of thanks from me, PWS. Anyway, nice to hear from you Dave, hope you're all doing well, regards Mobes
-

Our last blip clobbered us for half a dozen.

We were at -9 when Gerrard went after Fulham. Won 4-0 against Brentford to go to -5 and then promptly lost 4-0 at Newcastle to go back to -9.
-
3-0 to us, I’m starting to feel confident about games where previously I would have had doubts about. Don’t care who scores.
-
Bouba, Matty Cash and Coutinho not involved tomorrow, but UE suggested that they'll be back in 10 to 14 days. So, not longterm thankfully.
-
I have a ticket for this now. My first match of Emery's tenure. Sorry, folks.
-
FFS!
-
Fuck off Lee.
;)
-
Even the Infernal Hex of Legion will not stop us this afternoon.

OMG, there goes Unai’s record of scoring in every match so far.

Don't worry I have one too. The last game I went to was apparently very good for the neutral. As opined to my friend - I am not fuppin neutral. It was the Leicester defeat.
-
FFS!
Just means we’ll only win 8-0 rather than 10-0. It’s no biggie.
-
First home game in years, just setting off from London. Sun is out, full house, gonna be a good day
-
I really don't like this feeling. You know...looking forward to match days. I have hazy memories of it, usually followed by a trip post-match to rent a Shannon Tweed VHS or terrible martial arts movies on VHS from Blockbusters. Maybe rent a Sega Megadrive game or two as well.
I bet we'll win again today. It's a bloody nightmare.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
This is the 100th top-flight meeting. Aston Villa lead by 45 wins to Nottingham Forest's 30, with 24 draws.
Forest's only win in the past 15 league and cup meetings was 2-1 at home in the Championship in February 2017 (D7, L7).
Villa host Nottingham Forest for the first time since a 5-5 draw in the Championship in November 2018.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa are unbeaten in six league matches. A fourth straight win would equal their best run since returning to the top flight in 2019.
They are vying to register three consecutive Premier League home victories in a season for the first time since a streak of four from August to October 2007.
Their tally of 44 points after 29 matches is only one short of last season's final total.
Villa have earned 32 points since Unai Emery's first game in charge on 6 November - only Arsenal and Manchester City have fared better during that period.
The Villans have scored in all 16 league fixtures under the Spaniard, the longest current run of any team.
Ollie Watkins has scored in eight of his past 10 league appearances.
Nottingham Forest
Forest's eight-match winless league streak is currently the longest in the division (D3, L5).
They have lost four consecutive Premier League away games.
Steve Cooper's side have failed to win a league-high eight matches in which they opened the scoring, dropping 20 points (D4, L4).
Nottingham Forest have gone nine Premier League away fixtures without a win against sides from the Midlands since beating Coventry City 3-0 in August 1996, losing their last six in a row.
They have only scored five goals in 14 away league matches this season.
Emmanuel Dennis can equal the record for most defeats in a player's first 50 Premier League appearances: 37 by George McCartney of Sunderland and West Ham.
Dennis has scored in all three of his top-flight appearances against Aston Villa.
Renan Lodi celebrates his 25th birthday on Saturday.
-
Picked up two tickets in the North Stand yesterday. First match of the Emery era, the sun is shining and Villa will win by 3 or 4 with Ollie getting 2 of them.
-
First home game in years, just setting off from London. Sun is out, full house, gonna be a good day
Safe trip and enjoy the day!

Sun's out, on the back of 2 away wins, Saturday 3pm kick off, bank holiday weekend, playing a team with dismal away form.
Can only mean one thing...

I know you're not being serious but this attitude that something's bound to go wrong is what's held us back for decades.
-
I remember the last time we lost at home to Forest, it was not long after beating Inter in 1994, Bryan Roy conned the ref into a penalty (both home and away that season) so we were a goal down after about 2 minutes. We played well but like so many tail end BFR games we just couldn't score and Forest got a second from a mis hit shot from Steve Stone. We'll beat them today I reckon. 2-0
-

Can only mean one thing...
… a convincing home win and potentially 6th place and a positive goal difference.
-
Enjoy the game everyone. On a flight headed back to Toronto so won’t be watching but following on here. Hoping for a solid win and fun day out for all of the claret and blue persuasion today at Villa Park.
-

Sorry but that is...fucking awful.
-
Emmanuel Dennis can equal the record for most defeats in a player's first 50 Premier League appearances: 37 by George McCartney of Sunderland and West Ham.
Dennis has scored in all three of his top-flight appearances against Aston Villa.
As for this, not quite sure what to make of it. We'll let him score a consolation in a 7-1 win, if it keeps the stats happy.
-
I always look forward to our games but haven’t felt this optimistic in years! Great feeling on a beautiful Saturday morning.
Jealous of all those attending today, roar the boys on to stonking home victory.
-
My head says a stuttering, edgy 1-1 draw against a team whose away record is the worst in the league . Never, ever forget this is Aston Villa FC!
Nice day though!
-
I think if we score first and keep concentration we can give them a good thrashing
-
I was thinking of bringing Ollie into my fantasy squad, but thought as soon as I do that, he's gonna stop scoring, so you'll be pleased to hear I've left him out. Going 3 nil Villa, Ollie, JJ and a first for big Jhon.
-
The excellent Villa 'You Tuber' Holy Trinity is over from Canada for the next 2 games. I hope he has a great time and 6 points to celebrate.
-
HRH and lad in the house today. Three points by Royal appointment.
-
I just have a feeling we're due an indifferent performance today, 1-1
-
Bailey starts again. Incredible.
-
Bailey starts again. Incredible.
To be fair he's started most of the games we've won. Maybe he's a lucky charm.
-
Princes William and George have just walked past.

Yep, I'm sure this is exactly how we'll line up.
The BBC. Piss amateur as well as tory these days...
