I think we have seen the last of Olsen.
Strange to drop Buendia but maybe a more hard working midfield is though as being more appropriate

If we stand up to the physical challenge ten we should have enough. We need to score first as I don't see them having many goals in them

Yes I thought the same initially but when you analyse Dyche teams with physicality and set pieces I can understand why Buendia wouldn’t start today .
I think it’s quite refreshing that he picks teams to suit opposition and tactics not just those in form for the sake of it

Emery appears to have a strategy in place to deal with Everton's three midfielders, We have Ramsey McGinn, Luiz, and Kamara ready to combat.

Ref Antony Taylor hasn't given a penalty to Villa in ten years.
He also allowed Manchester United to repeatedly kick Bailey and Ramsey during our victory at Villa Park.
I'm especially worried about Bailey getting injured.
Despite the likely rough treatment, Ramsey is going to score today in my opinion.

I'm praying for Digne and Cash because they were attacked with objects thrown at them here last season and had to provide incident reports so that an arrest could be made and charges could be filed against the scoundrel who was a so-called football fan and season ticket holder. I hope they are not targeted again today.

Up The Villa.

It's not that refreshing he keeps picking people in no form whatsoever like Bailey and Ramsey though. If you're talking about lack of physicality, Bailey is head and shoulders the weakest player we have, he couldn't tackle a two course dinner. Buendia, although small, at least attempts to put himself about.

It's the Villa manager disease - just keep picking players who aren't producing the goods. It's no wonder we never finish any higher than mid table.

Hope I'm proved wrong though, and Bailey and Ramsey have absolute stormers

Its the right team for me. I would of had Coutinho for Bailey but obviously Phils injured. We need some competitiveness in the middle and unfortunately as much as i really like him, apart from  Leicester, Emi B hasn’t had a good game for ages and with Dyches teams, he’ll spend more time waving his arms about.

I think Luiz will be given a bit more licence to break forward today. I like the look of our midfield for a game like this. Huge game for Ramsey but I think in off the left should suit him. Needs to get up in support of Watkins. Bailey ahead of Buendia is definitely a surprise and likely we will be a bit predictable as a result. Digne starting over Moreno is a surprise but another option to change things if needs be.
Looking at their line up this isn't going to be a classic. We'll do it, 0-1.

Unfortunately, I worry about the bully boy tactics on Bailey whenever he plays and if he is not careful, he may be injured. However, he has the speed and quality to score, assist, or win a penalty or free kick, so lets remain optimistic...
At least until the game begins!

Tech Tip: I've just found out that my Smart TV has built-in Chromecast. Prior to this, I would connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI cable and this would lead to annoying popping and clicking noises on the audio. Ramsay needs to do more

The whole midfield needs to move more to create options for the defence, but McGinn is a bugger for standing still and expecting Konda to turn into Beckenbauer and somehow find him.

Buendía needs to come on for this stale match.
Lack of creativity and spark, as the team is ineffective despite some nice possession-based football.
Kamara's long ball literally put Watkins in position for a chance-thats it.
Ramsey has understood his role but less said about McGinn who is yet again floundering.
Its no coincidence McNeill has been somewhat effective on the left side and the right of our defence due to McGinn not doing as he's told and leaving far too much space.

Definitely not a classic. We started first 20 mins or so very well, completely dominant in midfield and I'm surprised Watkins in his form missed that chance after doing the hard part. But it's been shit since. Bailey a complete passenger needs to be hooked asap. Konsa has been a bit gutless for me with and without the ball. Matty Cash getting caught under nearly every single cross field hoof is something you would get abused for at pub league level. We are sleep walking a bit, one good save from Martinez but they muck.

Buendia for Bailey, Young for Cash and a rocket up them at half time please Emery..

Let's be honest.....that was s***.

First 15 minutes it looked like we'd have endless possession and have a comfortable afternoon but really poor after that.

Sort of scrappy game Everton want and they haven't been too far away from scoring from early crosses.

What is showing is how bad we are building from the back against mediocre opponents. How many CMs do we have on the pitch and only quality is when Kamara-Luiz are passing between themselves.

Poor. Would get Buendia on early second half as he should find some space between Everton's midfield and defence. No good putting him on if we're losing as they'll just low block us to death.

Aside from 10 mins we've been poor.  Difficult to know where to start with what we should do, but I'd start with Buendia or Duran for Bailey at half time.  We keep giving the ball away and it wouldn't hurt to go longer now and again.

There is a large proportion of Everton fans who are embarrassing gobshites, with the constant moaning and whining. Wouldn't be surprised if they get a soft penalty at some point.

Has one nil to them written all over it unless Emery sorts us out.

You do really have to wonder why a number of our players aren't very good at football. It's baffling.

Said this to someone after last week's crapshoot, but we have no partnerships in any area. There's no understanding of what one player is intending so another is there to profit from it.

I’d get Duran on.

Agree, Bailey has offered nothing.

Whenever he gets the ball, he just loses it again almost instantly.

He's really not very good.

Kamara-Luiz have done fine for me. Problem is when they get bypassed you don't have either McGinn or Ramsey tucking in with both stationed out wide so it becomes too easy for teams to run at our backline.

This week it won't cost us so much but against the top 6 it does as last week showed.

Such a poor game. Our inability to keep the ball, move, pass to another Villa player - are the basics that makes you despair. Without that - we can have the master all tacticians in the dugout.. Useless

On another note: I shudder at the thought that we were after McNeill....

We are being rinsed down our right flank.

You hate to see it. Ashley Young on sooner rather than later.
Thats down to the clueless captain McGinn not able to get out there as gets dragged inside.
Ill disciplined and hindering!

McGinn looks like he has concrete boots on today but Cash is the sole reason why our right flank is getting rinsed. Can't block a cross. Can't judge the flight of a cross field ball. Happy to play the finger pointing game with Konsa, mind.

He appears to have taken a knock early on after winning a free kick on the edge of the area, which Digne put over. Bailey was hurt, which appears to have taken him off his stride. He's stuck to his position if a little ineffective

Even on the rare occasion that we successfully beat the high press, we are met with more pressure on the next phase. I thought the whole point of this piss farting around is that when you keep possession and break the lines, it’s meant to open up space.

I think one of the major issues is that Emery is training it, and the players do it, but they don't really understand why.

It's McGinn he keeps going 'inside'. He seems lost to me and disrupting the balance. I rather push Cash up and Young on than have the clueless captain wondering where to play. Doesn't help Bailey ineffectiveness either but for me the Captain is sub par and doesn't understand the system.

The Ref has been crap and contributed to this being a poor game as he has let their overly physical/niggling approach go.

I'm all for a return to football being a physical contest, though he clearly does not understand when a coach sends his team out to foul continously as their primary tactic. UTV

Ginny played to his strengths for the pen. For the first time all game, he contributed to an offensive sense by making a move forward run into the area and winning the penalty. That's much better!
Watkins slammed the pen straight down the middle.

We now appear to be in control despite some poor play in possession, while Everton, give the ball away as much and can deal with any of their powder puff attacks.

Buendía needs to work on his possession because he keeps giving the ball away.

Martinez's antics will be 'entertaining" on goal kicks now we are 1-0.

I know we're not allowed to talk about the January transfer window and its impact on the season to come, but it's a bit like ignoring the chief reason why we haven't got any tomatoes in Britain and the rest of Europe has.

Brexit?

I couldn't possibly comment.

Nothing to do with Brexit, everthing to do with the supermarkets only offering les than the cost of production to UK protected edible farmers. They just didn't plant very much as energy and fert costs are too high to justify what was on offer as forward purchase price.

Imports from Spain are cheap as they can grow without heat, normally UK farms put in about 5-10% but most have not planted until it warms a bit and the glasshouse heatimg costs come down. That means a squeeze on total availability. Also poor crop in Morocco has led to restricted exports from there.

Potatoes will be scarce later this year as half of Europe cut it's acreage due to low prices on offer.
