Like it, a nice blend of strength and rotation. An opportunity for Sanson to shine. 8)

Safe to say that team should beat a League Two side. I mean, it really should.

Really.

Seriously.

Right?

Strong team, I think I'd have liked a few more youngsters in the 20, maybe not starting but 2 or 3 up with half an hour on the clock would be a good chance to give a few debuts.

The type of football that Stevenage play, if they have carried on from when I saw them early season, is to sling every ball into the box and chase down and unsettle defenders, picking up loose balls or get on slip up from defenders. If this is the case let’s hope those defenders are on top of their game.

Fantastic line up. Makes sense with Leeds on Friday.

Olsen is our cup goalie. Trusted.
And enough there to put 4 to 5 goals in.
Hope everyone gets behind Bailey though worry he may get injured as there are a few rough necks in their team.
He's definitely got a chance to score though!
El Maestro has spoken
I wonder who we get next round!?
Up The Villa

I reckon this Gnonto fella will end up at ManU, he's certainly perfected their key tactic of being close to death everytime someone goes near him.

Oops, wrong thread.

Stevenage appear to only have six subs. You’d have thought they’d have brought three youth team players to stick on the bench and enjoy the experience even if they had no intention of using them.

Bailey has to score?

Probably why he’s playing! He will get chances he has to put them away. Clever move from Unai. Hopefully Bailey will get a confidence boost. It will be useful for him when he gets sold to some Championship club. He really is not good enough for us. We have to have more ambition than Bailey.

Kaden Young on the bench is a mistake. No matter how good he is, we should not be giving first team games & media praise to kids until they have reached the age of 18 & signed a long term pro contract. Have we learned nothing from the Chukwuemeka situation?

There are some who praise Martinez's squalid antucs of poo housing, and Stevenage has a few who will impose it at times today if we don't see it right. So no complaints!
Yes there have a few players who are a real pain, so let's put them to bed early so we don't have to deal with their antics as well as the treatment Bailey and Coutinho will receive.
Some of their players have no other option because it's a battle for them just to keep up.
Let's hope Luiz and Sanson keep their cool in midfield and let the football speak for itself.

Man City or Chelsea vs Arsenal takes care of two of the possible winners. Man U have an easy draw vs Reading. Brighton won’t be easy for Liverpool if they beat Wolves. Away at Stoke if we can win today gives us a decent chance to Rd5

The woman on commnetary is desperate for them to get something here.

We weren't great but it is hard against what is effectively a back 8 and we're trying to force it a bit too much.

Sanson and Luiz have been our best players by a long way, Bailey has been terrible.

Cash and Bailey looking like players we need to improve on.

Ramsey will start v Leeds if he gets half an hour tonight.

Dosen't solve everything as if we bring Buendia back it's a bit one paced in final third but Leon isn't exactly doing much to stay in first 11 currently.

We will certainly be signing a final third player this month, let's hope they're proven rather than a project.

Not a great half really.

Thankfully we're winning but it was a very close call and crowd know it.

On the other hand, they've probably seen two dozen cup ties over the years where we haven't scored and then go out to a late goal for the lower league side.

So count the blessings really.

Kaden Young on the bench is a mistake. No matter how good he is, we should not be giving first team games & media praise to kids until they have reached the age of 18 & signed a long term pro contract. Have we learned nothing from the Chukwuemeka situation?

Not this shit again
In what specific area do you disagree? Maybe you should create a Kaden Young thread, so not to upset some of the more sensitive posters on this board...

He's on the bench for a 3rd round fa Cup match, along with about 20 other Premier league youngsters this weekend.

Hardly blowing smoke up his arse are we. Such a bizarre narrative you've created

I don't care about other clubs youngsters & how they are dealt with, unless it involves Villa. The manager has been praising Young in the media this week. Im not saying that we should call him shit & pay him in coal, I am just wary of building up the ego of youngsters with praise & first team opportunities before they have signed a proper long term pro contract on their 18th birthday. Chuckweumeka & his people told us all the right things about that contract, but we fed his ego with comments from the likes of Purslow & gave him more first team opportunities than his play deserved & he left thinking he was the big "I am". I do not want to repeat the same mistakes with any of our other prospects.

Glad of the lead; well worked goal. Cb 2 look dodgy for us. Cash has been poor. Only Leander and Sanson look up for it. Bailey is definitely playing on the wrong side (all left footed-no right). They’ve not troubled us and when they have got anywhere near it’s been of our own making. Less of the pedestrian football 2nd half please.

Very very poor. Lots of possession, very little threat. The one time we moved it a little quicker than snails pace & we scored. They on the other hand are taking advantage of the fact that three of that back four have the pace of a tree & are getting in behind on the counter. They have a chance with that play. And if that commentator with Dublin got more excited about Stevenage, she might just have an orgasm on live TV. I get the underdog angle, but Jebus, show a little professionalism.

We’re so pedestrian.

Exactly. The only time we demonstrate our superior skill and technique we score. In great Villa tradition we have a team that are scared to run at the opposition, Coutinho seems to slow the game down so he can have a breather, if Buedia had given the ball away like Coutinho you'd have imploded after 25 minutes.

Bailey as others have said is having a 'mare but Cash is hanging back due to them getting lots of fun down our right side. Maybe Sanson could support Bailey more in addition to being the only Villa player that looks like they deserve a game.

Talking about corner flags...

It's been a poor game. Can't sugarcoat this one.
I found that quite interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangular_corner_flags_in_English_football

Did you know......Blackburn Rovers are the only team in English football allowed to have their crest displaying on all four corner flags. This is because they are the only club in existence to have won the FA Cup three years in a row

It all very well doing it at a Premier League ground on a Sunday, but can Stevenage do it on a rainy cold day in the Potteries?

We deserve this. This was an absolute disaster. We must be the only team that can appoint a cup expert as manager only to fall out of both cups early. You can’t make it up.

that's a total lack of winning mentality. Switching off, twice, at the end is unforgiveable.
What a sack of shite some of these players are. Fair play Stevenage.

Well done Stevenage you deserve it…..Villa you didn’t

But that's the problem isn't it. They didn't play particularly well. We handed it to them on a plate as we always do against lower league opponents each and every year. The manager, like so many premier league managers, talks about desperately trying to win this competition then fields a reserve team against opponents who are always going to be up for it.

Congratulations Stevenage, good luck next round.

Unai- now you know who to sell.
What a load of freeloading nonsense to turn out for The Villa. Playing at walking pace, happy with 1-0 and then to switch off completely within 5 minutes of winning.

Dog dirt. We will need to concentrate on staying up now. That will have rattled psyche of this already very brittle team. Big performance needed against Leeds.....
