Won’t be easy, local derbies never are. I trust the manager to have us very well prepared to take on Wolves and win this game. I’m going for 2-0 to us; Watkins first half, and Coutinho late on.
-
Just win please. Capitulation at VP October 2021 still irritates.
-
Dendoncker derby. Where was he today btw?
These lads can't score for toffee so one goal for us should be enough. But we're Emery's entertainers, so I'll expect three or four.
-

Imagine how it feels for Dean Smith. His career nose-dived after that afternoon.
-

Yes, that's it. I want revenge as that match still hurts. Jammy bastards were being totally outplayed and suddenly it all fell into place for them. Every bounce, every toe poke, every ricochet and every deflection helped and aided by our midfield and defense going into a melt down won the game for them. No ifs no buts lets just smash the fuckers out of sight.
-
The Manager turned us all upside down today with the team he picked and the tactics to cruise to victory. I hope he keeps doing it. There is nothing predictable about us at the moment and that's what makes it so enjoyable.
Hopefully more enjoyment incoming on Weds.
3-0
-
We need to keep the momentum of 3 wins in the last 4 going by winning against this lot. 3 points could see us rise into the top 10 whilst keeping these obsessives firmly rooted in the bottom 3. UTV!
-
0-2.
-
'Old' Villa drop points here just as we're all getting a bit excited about our potential. I hope that particular character flaw is one Emery doesn't have.
3-0 Watkins, Bailey, Ings
-
I'm afraid I'm "old Villa" here as I expect a frustrating 1-1.
Two managers who know each other so well so this will be tight with plenty of theirs behind the ball and us expected to take the initiative.
It will be interesting as the first games for Unai have all been against sides who want to get on front foot and dominate v us, this Wolves side is nowhere near on a patch with what they've had in last 3-4 years so it will be many players defending so interested how creative we look.
I think we'll freshen up the side a little bit as good as today was so think Ings will start this and Dendoncker aswell if he's fit. Cash and Emi coming back appears logic aswell but we'll see as I expected both to start today and defence was excellent.
They have an annoyingly good record at VP. Scars of last season which forced 12 months of Gerrard upon us and I really can't think of any wins v them apart from the 4-1 in the championship days and also a league cup win over their youth team. Anything else?
I think we'll beat Leeds so 4 points from our next two home games will keep us ticking along nicely just below the top 7.
-
I'm going for a 2-1 Villa win.
-
We've had some great results against them in the years I've followed the Villa - the double in 2003-04, Super Tom in the League Cup in 96, 4 pts off them 2 seasons ago. I think we'll be too strong for them in midweek, especially after today's confidence building result. 2-0 Villa.
-
Routine 4.0.
-
I hope we bury these tedious 'mind the gap' cunts.
-
I'm expecting a tough one and frustrating score draw.
-
Two very good managers, I think this will be a typical hard fought derby draw
-
I reckon Unai has 'raised the expectation levels' at AVFC and our players know it. They are singing off the same hymn sheet.
Unai will 'expect' to win this. Nothing less.
Villa 2 Dingles nowt.
-
I never feel confident when Villa are "expected" to win but I have every confidence in Emery to manage this very well.
Some subtle changes and I think we should be good enough for these.
Would like updates on our players who went off McGinn and Luiz

Battle of Spanish management giants playing out in the West Midlands. Copycats. I think it’ll be tough. 1-0 Villa.
-
4-0 Villa
-
Annoying little pricks come out of nowhere for 3-4 years and now strangely silent.
The 3-2 still rankles so a sexy 4-0 win to put them back in their place - Ollie to get his shooting boots back with a brace under the lights.
-
Might well be a harder game than yesterday, going 2-1 Villa.
-
2-1
Shame it won't be sold out for a local derby
Bit embarrassing really
Considering recent form + don't look good for future of a bigger capacity stadium
Ticket prices are a joke and the club should be ashamed

And a Happy new year to you Flint!
-
Most of the adult prices are over £50 TBF.
-
Prices for this one are ridiculous. Christmas plus irrelevant opposition plus midweek plus top prices equals poorer crowd than we should get.
-
That does seem excessively steep.
-
Plus a train fuckageddon
-
I also think ticket prices are far too high. When you think that if 2 adults go, including drink/food, that’s about £120 at least. Ridiculous for a football match.
-
2-0 to us I think. Derbies are never easy so I think it’ll be scrappy. Hopefully our injured will be fit again.
-

That is actually really expensive for a game against these this early in Jan
-
Ticket prices are a joke and the club should be ashamed
A mate asked if I wanted him to get me a ticket for this, given the result against Spurs I’m really looking forward to it, I didn’t ask the price I just said get it so I was a bit surprised to be paying over £40 in The North Stand.
-
£41.50 is the cheapest adult ticket, and the only zone that's under £50. The others are £50.50, £54.50 and £59.00. Saft prices imo, but i'm also no longer their target audience.
-
Approximately 2,300 tickets available at this present moment
-
If you can't get down the Villa you could always go to the pantomime, sorry that was today

Looks like I got a bargain then!, it’s in the top category of games but it’s bloody expensive all things considered given the prices above.

Martinez or Olsen in goal for this one? Not as easy a decision as I originally thought!!
In the absence of Martinez, Unai spent 6 weeks changing our tactics, in particular playing the ball out from the back. It worked against Spuds and Olsen looked more assured.
Can Martinez adjust fast enough or is it a case of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it'?
Will he wait for the Stevenage game when it might be easier for Martinez to adjust to our new style of play??
I will sit on the fence, scratch my arse and bow to Unai's superior knowledge. :-\

Would be very surprised if Martinez didn't come back in. It will be a much more physical game than Spurs and he relishes that. Think Cash will come in for Young too, three games in quick succession might be a bit far for Young. McGinn will hardly make it you would think, Dendoncker if fit back v his former club the most likely replacement.

Not sure Dendoncker would replace McGinn in our current formation. Ramsey or Sanson would be the more like-for-like replacements, but probably wouldn't be in contention.

Any news on Doug’s injury?

Prices for this one are ridiculous. Christmas plus irrelevant opposition plus midweek plus top prices equals poorer crowd than we should get.
This is actually where having so many season ticket holders becomes counter productive, like pretty much everyone in top half club can afford to fleece the 3-4k that is available for general sale.
Was going to this but will instead go to Leeds game where most part of the ground are a "mere" 35-40 quid.
Only going to get dearer when North Stand is close and we're playing at a reduced capacity for pretty much a season.
-
Approximately 2,300 tickets available at this present moment
That's a depressing amount left. Villa have take. The support for granted. It shows the 20k aren't willing to pay the big bucks on a Wednesday night. Maybe it'll wake the greedy sods up
-
So still on course for 40,000+. That's a depressing gate?

down from 7,000 in a.matter of hours which you quoted
-
unless every single game isn't sold out within minutes, poor old flinty becomes depressed and the club is a shameful wreck. there's no logic here
-
Just block, it makes life easier.
-
He's a Villa obsessed nose and his wind ups are really, really poorly disguised. They're only 6 points above the relegation zone again so expect him to ramp up his obsession over the next month as their season dwindles away, again.

Nah, it's quite funny watching someone looking for negatives where none are to be found. Okay, ticket prices are steep considering the time of year and who we're playing. Someone has got it wrong thinking this is a fiercely contested local derby so the demand will be higher than normal. All it will be is fiercely contested.
-

how do you know he's a nose, have you counted his fingers?

The club have definitely got the pricing wrong this time around, although whether having tickets £10 or so cheaper would have made much difference is debatable. This has got to be just about the most unattractive kick-off time there is - late night, mid-week just after Christmas on a day when many with families will be completing their first day or two back at work/school. And it's against Wolves.

Wolves have always been a category A game for as long as I've remembered. Playing them a decade ago and tickets were more 30-35 quid than say 20-25 quid v a Swansea or Blackburn.
-
Was it £35 that wretched day when we lost at home to them under Houllier ?
-
Why is it when I point the facts out I get labeled a nose. I think those sensible posters on here realise I've got a lot right regarding my predictions and fan concerns regarding catering, treatment of supporters and the club driving out the working class (not just a Villa problem) .
The 25 quid a ticket pie eaters are no longer valued by the Football Club they want a family of four spending £200 in the club store per match and enjoying an expensive day out.
We should be having a packed out Villa Park tomorrow night with fair pricing and a fantastic atmosphere.
The 'new' supporters could easily be lost if we have another stint in the championship
We need to look after ALL of out supporters and tomorrow should have been priced differently and we need some honesty on the 20,000
-
All fans are valued by the club. What a load of nonsense. That doesn’t mean that the point being made of prices right after Christmas being high isn’t valid. Everyone wants us to compete at the top and buy the best. That unfortunately comes with certain games being priced in a way that not everyone can go. Or that people need to make choices in their lives with their disposable income.
-
old man complains that things are expensive and that he has to wait too long to buy cups of tea. shock horror
football is massive business mate, if you want to be more valued then i'd suggest you support a non league team instead. or meditate
-
This is one of those games that see us near to turning that seemingly neverending corner. 3points tonight and a couple of decent signings and I will be looking up. 3-1 to The Villa and the dawn of a bright new era please.

The club have set a price structure for different categories of fixture. I think they are wrong on a couple of instances for this particular game in that firstly I don't think Wolves should be counted as premium opposition that would attract more casual supporters, and also the club should recognise other factors in determining the category - in this case it being a midweek evening fixture coming just after Christmas and New Year, on top of which there is the significant complication of a rail strike.
This idea you have that the waiting list is a myth is what pisses people off more than anything. Of that 20K, around 10K have almost certainly bought tickets for tomorrow already. I'm a ST holder, but my wife and daughter have been on the list for well over 2 years and are still around 10K from the top - even with the new stand I very much doubt we will get the STs we want immediately.
Unless the Premier League introduce a mandatory pricing structure that guarantees all clubs have to sell a percentage of their tickets below a certain price level then there is no way Villa could, or should, reduce the ticket prices to a below market level. Unfortunately, because of FFP clubs need to maximise revenue in order to allow them to remain competitive, hence the current ticket prices and building of a new stand that is about maximising corporate revenue as much as increasing capacity. If we don't then we may as well resign ourselves to forever being a selling club who have to give up players we have developed as soon as the like of Man City come calling, making further stints in the Championship a much more realistic possibility.
Of course you might be happy floating around the bottom end of the league awaiting inevitable relegation so that you can get your £20 tickets and a pie, but it doesn't strike me that would satisfy you either.
-
Attending the match tomorrow is a fucking pain in the arse when the game was originally scheduled for yesterday afternoon when I had the day off but we are in the clutches of TV so have no choice but to put up with it or not go.
To be honest I'm amazed we've sold that many tickets and would imagine most of those went before the date change.
There was a message earlier about the ticket line being down or something so that won't help any last minute purchases. We should've put a call in to the Sty, they must have loads of issues selling tickets looking at the alledged demand against the actual attendances.
-
I seem to recall that when the PL sold out to sky, one of the main benefits to fans would be lower ticket prices to compensate for being messed about regarding KO times etc..wonder what happened to that idea?
-
Is this game on TV ?
I think Wolves will come for a draw , even though they need 3 points.
-
I'm pretty sure wolves these days play (hope) for a draw wherever they are.

I guess it got moved because of the Spurs Game.

Thanks, 8pm to compensate for the train strike ?

Yeah the xmas break and the perils of living in the countryside means I have lost all reasonable track of what the effin day actually is!! Lucky I hadn't set off yet, isn't it?

I hope not. Thanks to Twitter, I've come to loathe Wolves fans.

Boy does that twat have a relegation coming to him and his team!

He's really funny, and seems a good sort to be fair.
-
I don’t want to be over confident here. I remember our new year win at Stamford Bridge years ago and being excited to play Swansea at home next up :(
-
Injury doubts in our midfield are a concern for this game, according to reports. McGinn a major doubt with his hamstring, Luiz to be assessed for his knock on Sunday, Dendoncker a doubt?. Ramsey might make the bench. Could we see Sanson or Nakamba? Chambers is versatile and he can play in midfield.
-
Where is Donk?
-
Did Unai not give a presser today? If not, fair enough. I can understand him wanting to dodge Tom Ross' crap clichéd questions and Daz Hale's overly-chumminess.
-
Where is Donk?
Rumours that he's a doubt for tomorrow - he wasn't on the bench at Spurs.....
-
Bit of info for tomorrow night as this seems the right place. The Villa Tavern not open due to change in management. It should be open for Saturdays game v Stevenage.

Wolves fans, Indian cricket fans and Ronaldo fanboys are by far the biggest twats on Twitter.

I can confirm, there has never been a more entitled fanbase in history in any sport. We used to have a distribution partner over there wth work and I hated having to deal with them when there was any international rugby on.
-
I seem to recall that when the PL sold out to sky, one of the main benefits to fans would be lower ticket prices to compensate for being messed about regarding KO times etc..wonder what happened to that idea?
The 30 quid price cap for away fans is only time different factors have come together for some good. I know it's a real pet peeve of Mr Woodhall that all fans can't come together on ticket prices like the european Super league collapse as we would see real change then.
I've always thought it's brilliant in Germany that for away fans you get free travel on the day if you get a match ticket on any form of transport. Or at least some sort of sports fan railcard to get a third off fares like the other options.
-

I think so too. I just can't help it.
If we were to win it, though, now that really would suggest we might be on to something this time.
-
Think those clamouring for Sanson might just get their wish tonight if McGinn is out as expected.
-
With injuries and a lower than expected crowd due to various factors my confidence has been dented a bit.
-
I'm looking forward to tonight's game I reckon we can beat these dog heads.
-
Win this and we are firmly in the group of clubs aiming for 6th or 7th. Lose and we are not quite away from the relegation teams. So draw it is!!
-

I think we're in the first group already, but a win would be really good.
-
Win this and its Leeds, Southampton and Leicester up next, a real chance to get up a proper head of steam up for the second half on the season.
-
I'm not liking when we're all feeling confident like this, invariably it turns to shit.
-
That's the old Villa
-
Yep, we really should win it, but whether we actually do is another matter.
-
It's Wolves.
-
Coutinho came on for McGinn at the weekend so I wonder if there is a chance we see him start this evening.
-
2-0 win, Wolves ain't going to change so quickly from their performances to date to show a winning mentality. Don't forget they're the lowest scorers in the PL.
-

We're not at any risk of being dragged back into the relegation picture tonight, we could lose 4-5 on the bounce and not end up in the bottom 3 given how poor the teams down there are right now.
-
They are under far more pressure than we are. If they keep up their present form , 40 pts this season could be a big ask for them. We just need to have patience and I am sure then we will get a result. At sometime in the near future if their results don't improve they will either have to throw caution to the wind or meekly accept their fate. Come on villa...shaft em
-
Looking at the training images on web site and no sign of McGinn, Ash, Konsa, Buendia, Donk or Digne - maybe just a coincidence but McGinn and Buendia is usually all over the images.
Better news was that Ramsay was on the images and the illusive Sanson - both of who could be direct replacements for McGinn
-
I don’t think Ramsey is walking back in after injury. Luiz has been in promo shots for the game. He will be fine I reckon. McGinn and Donck out. I see possibly this line up
Martinez
Cash
Digne
Konsa
Mings
Kamara
Luiz
Coutinho
Bailey
Buendia
Watkins

I have a rule to never bet on Villa at all EXCEPT the one bet on them that I reckon I have made a decent profit from these last ten years - Villa to lead at half time, lose on 90 mins.
You can normally get at least 25/1 on that.
-
Just put this on the VP Development thread but I've just been online and totted up 2014 seats available for tonight. With everything going on such as schools back, train strikes, £50+ tickets etc, I'd say this is a great effort.

I think this needing muscle thing is much less important than having players who can keep the ball, pass it quickly and accurately. Kamara isn’t exactly a strapping lad but he’s in the right place at the right time and makes simple passes well and makes complexes longer passes look simple. We need more of that and I think Coutinho has that ability as well being someone who can carry the ball from midfield into the final third. That’s a critical link between midfield and the forwards which we would be missing by adding a more conservative midfield player.

That's a decent idea TV, I just don't think he'll start both of them. If McGinn's out I think he'll stick Bailey wide right and put Ings up front next to Watkins.

Or maybe Cash wide right, it worked well when he came on at Spurs.

In the system we've been playing I think it's hard to fit Bailey, Buendia and Coutinho at the same time. If Buendia is fit then I wouldn't be surprised to see Bailey drop out from TVs team but I'm not sure who the replacement would be, Cash, Sanson and Ings all work but in different ways. I think we might see Ings and Watkins together for this one.
Martinez
Cash Konsa Mings Digne
Buendia Kamara Luiz Coutinho
Watkins Ings
but with us regularly shifting to a 433 to number up with them in midfield.

I could see chambers starting next to Bouba for this
Then Sanson and Nakamba might as well start packing as there cannot be any hope for them
I think that's been pretty obvious for quite some time
-
I think he might want some security in respect of Baby oil.
-
I think i'd keep it unchanged unless there are injuries?
Obviously bringing Martinez and Cash back in though !

If we win tonight the season is actually becoming sexy.
We would be well on course for Europe.
Four wins from five would be unreal.
I do think we will win tonight.
I've just got a good feeling that it will be a memorable game.

More importantly the next 3 after tonight are all decent fixtures so 18-19 points from Emery's first 8 games wouldn't be beyond us and that's the sort of form that builds belief and confidence, just like the Smith run did in the promotion season.

I did notice but I don't like these winnable games runs we get. Because we usually find that they weren't very winnable and we end up losing most of them.
Maybe we won't though.

I'm chuffing heavily on the hopium that we're not that club anymore.

I know Olsen did alright on Sunday and demonstrated that he might be an ok second choice keeper after all, but please bring Emi back in for this one.
Also, we are 100% not winning a home game against a team in the bottom three after beating a top six team away. It would be the most un-Villa thing ever. We'll obviously drop points. Probably a 0-1 defeat to a late goal by an out of form Diego Costa. I'm a miserable person.

First visit to VP for me in over a year, plus I'm thoroughly outnumbered by wanky wanderfers fans at work, so just win please Villa.

Heeeeeeeeeeeee's back!
Emi in goal, Cash in for SJM, otherwise unchanged from Spurs.
