Very strange lineup. Hopefully he knows what he's doing.
EDIT: Hadn't realised there were illnesses in the camp, which explains watkins out and bailey only on bench
-
Not the line up I was expecting. Fingers crossed.
-
Wow that is a team that's seriously lacking pace.
-
I’m surprised McGinn is in ahead of Dendonker and Bailey is on the bench.
-
Very odd selection. Is Watkins injured? Might even get to see Archer play for a change.
-
Sigh.
I thought Gerrard had been sacked.
-
Ollie obviously picked up a knock otherwise he'd be involved and starting.
No idea why Bailey isn't starting.
Packed full of CMs. It's going to be another containment job as we haven't got much starting that can break the lines bar Ramsey and Buendia if he gets any of the ball.
Surprised Dendoncker isn't starting over McGinn.
-
Strange line up indeed. Mc Ginn? I don't get it.
Anyway Côme Villa.
-
There were comments on the twitter thread that watkins was sent home ill yesterday, similarly with bailey that he had been ill.
-
I thought Gerrard had been sacked.
Giggle.
-
Ugh. Very poor line up that.
-

Apparently, Ollie and Leon fell ill yesterday.
I have no desire to see McGinn out there, hope I’m proved wrong. JJ and Buendia need to have big days today.
-

Fair enough then. We do seem to get a few sickness bugs in our camp, had some issues a few weeks back IIRC.
-
Have to get use to a bit of Emery rotation.
Let's trust the process.
-
This serves as a further reminder why we need to thank Gerrard for leaving us with fuck-all wide options.
-
some negative Nelly's on here already
-
Any one thinking of wild swimming.
-
Bailey and Dendonk unfortunate not to be starting.
Obvs Kamara is a good replacement for that dcm role.
McGinn and Ings the worries for me.
Come on Villa boys and Emery 3 points please. UTV!
-
We've only lost five times at Brighton and on four of those occasions we've gone on to win the league.
COME ON BRIGHTON!
-
I'm sharpening my knife as we speak.
-
All these people think it's the line up that wins the game.
Under Emery he's about the collective. And that he'll introduce or change things when and where needed
Meaning it shouldn't matter who we put out under his mastery he has the strategy as well as ability to bring players on at the right time.
I be more getting the negativity if people so far were citing that McGinn starts but they are instead suggesting the rest aren't good enough.
Let's see shall we.
And the five subs.
Emery hasn't shown much weakness in his selections so far.
-
Not sure about the line up but unlike previous managers I have more faith in Emery. I believe his changes are for a reason and not just random lets try this.
-
Ings can't play in a high press, hasn"t got the pace or stamina to close down as Ollie does and he isn't that quick on the break either. Reckon we'll set up differently and play a more defensive shape. 4-2-3-1?

Just heard the team on talksport. According to that plank The Moose, Kamara is playing as part of a front 2.

He's a useless twat. Can't listen to that station these days, annoys the fuck out of me.

Got to be trolling here
-
Dendonker must have a bug too then as mcginn has played like he has had a bug for over a year .
-
Win please.
-
I thought Gerrard had been sacked.
Giggle.
He never played a 4-5-1
-
Don't have a problem with that team selection if Watkins and Bailey were sent home yesterday through illness.
Yet another chance for McGinn to prove that he really isn't as shit as he has become!
-
SG needs to go now after that selection!!
-
And every cloud has a silver lining so just maybe boy wonder will get some good game time today?
-
Mitoma not playing for them is a big bonus for us. He has been in superb form.
-
Too bad about Ollie. I’d have preferred to have seen Leo instead of McGinn. But that’s what it is. Let’s hope for a better performance by him and we come out with a good result. We’ve done well down there in recent times. This will be a very tough game.
-
I’m surprised McGinn is in ahead of Dendonker and Bailey is on the bench.
Not like for like really. Kamara and Luiz are in ahead of Dendoncker.
-
I was hoping we'd seen the last of Ings.
-
Cam could see some good minutes today.
McGinn gets 2 turnovers and I’m calling for Sanson.
-
I'd take the draw, 4 from Utd and Brighton would be a good return.
-
I was out with a Spanish friend last night who comes from San Sesbastion.
He said Unai was very much marmite in Spain.
Always tinkering and rarely started the same team even if it won.
-
I'd take the draw, 4 from Utd and Brighton would be a good return.
7/12 from Brentford, Newcastle, Man U and Brighton is good given our season. 10/12 would be excellent. A base to build from.
-
I was hoping we'd seen the last of Ings.
He earns over 100k a week, we'll be seeing plenty more of him until his contract runs out or we take a Haircut100 on him.
-
I think Meatball is going to be pushed further forwards today. Let's be honest, if he can't thrive there then there isn't really anywhere else we can try him. Fingers crossed he has an absolute barnstormer today and pings one in off the underside of the bar. It's approaching the end for him otherwise.
-

That would indeed be brilliant. It would mean we somehow get 4 points if we win today.
-
He does apparently have an individual plan for each game so I suppose it may well mean changes regularly. I would imagine Watkins and Bailey would have played if fit and I’m thinking Ings and Buendia are playing instead.
-
McGinn should not be starting.
Bailey should be starting.
Football is a simple game.
-
Why do they have to play fucking freed from desire at every bastard football ground?
-
Thankfully Martinez starts, hopefully Cam gets some game time.
-
If it is true that Bailey has been ill then he may have been deemed unfit to start the game.
-
I was out with a Spanish friend last night who comes from San Sesbastion.
He said Unai was very much marmite in Spain.
Always tinkering and rarely started the same team even if it won.
Probably would have been pretty much the same team as last Sunday if there hadn't been illness, with just Digne coming back in.
Be interesting to see how we line up though and whether it will be the 4-4-2 on Wednesday with one of Buendia, Ramsey or McGinn in behind Ings or a variation of 4-3-3 with McGinn and Buendia in wideish areas.
-
McGinn should not be starting.
Bailey should be starting.
Football is a simple game.
Bailey is ill, apparently.
-
Crap, narrow line-up. We need to sign at least a dozen maverick wingers in the next window.
-
McGinn? FFS, how many times does he need to see somebody play badly?
-
We need to sign at least a dozen maverick wingers in the next window.
I like the cut of your jib.
-
Crap, narrow line-up. We need to sign at least a dozen maverick wingers in the next window.
Or we could bring one back from his loan in Turkey
-
Traore?
-
Urrggghhhh.
-
Urrggghhhh.
No Bertie .. not sure who he is
Thou he sounds Turkish
-
McGinn is much better further forward.
* clutches at passing straws *
-
Come on Villa!
-

Fuck…it’s early here. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
-
Bum note on the trumpet then.
-
Come on you villa boys
-
Bum note on the trumpet then.
Hardly surprising, you're meant to play it with your mouth.
-
Mugs
-
1-0 Brighton
-
Fcuk!
-
Is Olsen playing ???
-
WTF.
-
some negative Nelly's on here already
I feel attacked! I quite liked the line-up. :P
-
FFS.
-
Oh my god
-
Jesus twatting Christ.
-
Thank God he's not picked Olsen.
-
No words...
-
Jesus Christ - terrible.
-
Game over
-
Bollocks
-
Fucking hell wow.
-
Bum note on the trumpet then.
Thought the tempo was a bit fast as well.
-
Awful, awful, awful.
-
47 seconds, I think
-
Luiz at fault there. Asleep
-
That is absolutely fucking pathetic.
-
Disaster
-
They way to ruin any manager...fucking players.
-
For fucking hells sake.
-
Martinez dire pass out for that goal.
-
Disgusting.
-
What a stupid freaking pass!!
-
The nightmare of Thursday night continues.
-
And that's game over, thanks lads!
-
How is that a fair challenge though?
-
Luiz at fault there. Asleep
Maybe, but it shoud nver have been played to him there. Suicidal pass.
-
What. The. Fuck. Was. That.
-
I just think it’s such a dumb pass. There is no sense of risk vs reward at all.
-
Can someone explain to me how that wasn't a foul though?? He just trips him up from behind!
-
We are fucking shit at playing out from the back, yet continue with the madness
-
The whole team is sick. Forget just Bailey and Watkins.
-
Ah we’ll see you after the World Cup
-
Suicide ball
And Douglas still asleep
-
Luiz soft. Shit pass.
Probably game over.
-
This is why I think Luiz is shit. Just not physical enough, soft as shit. Crap ball from Martinez too though to be fair. Fucking rubbish.
-
Can someone explain to me how that wasn't a foul though?? He just trips him up from behind!
Same.. I don't understand? Doesn't touch the ball, goes through his plant leg..?
-
Absolutely stupid pass.
-
Think I might go to work early.
-
At least it’s not fifth minute of injury time..
-
What is it with us and stupid passes by keepers??
-
Fuck me. I did say that sacking Gerrard wasn’t going to solve much. The majority of our players are seriously shit, and as mentally tough as a piece of tissue paper.
-
Luiz soft. Shit pass.
Probably game over.
Yep
-
Get Olsen on now!
-
Fucks sake that is stupid
-
If that happens v the usual suspects, the ref blows his whistle.
-
Utterly ridiculous pass from Martinez. What was he expecting that Luiz would be able to do with a ball like that?
-
Mind if it was de bryne there ,that would be disallowed
-
Poor pass out from Emi oh dear me
-
Brain dead. Just appalling. Martinez and Luiz, just shocking.
-
I think we need to scrap this playing out from the back business.
It doesn't suit us. Luiz just isn't intelligent or aware enough for such roles.
-
What a useless bunch of wankers.
-
At least we have plenty of time left.
-
The best manager in the world with the best laid plans cannot account for player naivety and stupidity.
-
Stupid pass.
But anywhere else on the pitch , that’s a foul.
-
Fuck, I'm fuming.
-
Am starting to think that the home manure win was a complete one off more and more.
-
Not a fucking foul ffs
-
Mings, you plank.
-
I think the lads were demoralised by Thursday’s shit show.
-
The goal
https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1591794683348488193
-
As we saw Thursday night (and all season), literally any kind of high press and we fuck up at the back. It's why we're so dire away from home against sides that don't sit back.
-
Nothing wrong with the goal, it was more the Brighton players as it was passed straight to him.EMI allready on the plane.
-
Bloody hate the all claret kit
-
Konsa and Mings revert to full Laurel and Hardy there.
-
When Olsen going to be revealed under that Martinez mask, scooby do style.
-
Nothing wrong with the goal, it was more the Brighton players as it was passed straight to him.EMI allready on the plane.
on the plane. Head in the clouds
-
They've Lost 0 of the last 20ish when scoring first.
-
Get Big Cutts back FFS, our keepers have totally gone to shit.
-
Konsa and Mings already looking like the chuckle brothers.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
-
Mings challenge the same as theirs on Luis
-
Poor pass from keeper
-
This is fucking garbage
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
There's no way that was a foul. Luiz looked like he slipped.
-
They are toying with us.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
Was it heck. Just a coming together, and Luiz coming off second best.
-
Dick (Emery) out.
-
Olsen deserved criticism on Thursday and our number one does very similar in the first 30 seconds. Everything they've worked on is made so much harder so early in the game, very frustrating.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
There's no way that was a foul. Luiz looked like he slipped.
Different player in a different shirt gets the call though. That's the problem.
-
We have not strung together two passes yet.
-
Been a dreadful, sloppy start.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
Was it heck. Just a coming together, and Luiz coming off second best.
Agreed. If that were us and a foul was given I’d be fuming
-
And people wonder why I moan
Another manager who makes bizzare decisions and will end the same way as it did for SG
-
Is Martinez on LSD or something?
Fucking hell Villa. Brighton look like they're playing a different sport.
-
I think we’d have been better playing the Donk. Kamara looks some way off being ready in my opinion.
-
This is almost feeling the same as under Gerrard again.
Lack of confidence, belief, conviction, spine.
We look dreadful.
At least we’ll get a chance to rebuild after this game.
-
It's the claret shorts get the white ones on
-
Ings did ok there
-
Why play McGinn? Why? Inexplicable.
-
There’s a pattern to this now. Win at home, relax and collapse away. January cannot come soon enough for this club. Enough woeful mistakes game after game, we’ve got to be brutal and send a few on their way.
-
It's the claret shorts get the white ones on
Horrid kit
-
Ramsey crocked.
-
JJ going off, Archer coming on it seems
-
Emery thinking why did I come here there
-
And people wonder why I moan
Another manager who makes bizzare decisions and will end the same way as it did for SG
What managerial decisions caused that goal?
-
And people wonder why I moan
Another manager who makes bizzare decisions and will end the same way as it did for SG
What managerial decisions caused that goal?
Picking Martinez over Olsen presumably.
-
JJ going off, Archer coming on it seems
Or maybe Sansom, or Dendoncker. Or Young.
-
And people wonder why I moan
Another manager who makes bizzare decisions and will end the same way as it did for SG
What managerial decisions caused that goal?
Ignore the troll.
-
JJ going off, Archer coming on it seems
Odd choice if so.
-
Corners look dangerous
-
And people wonder why I moan
Another manager who makes bizzare decisions and will end the same way as it did for SG
you moan for some weird reaction on here. Maybe you should manage us? Least season ticket demand will go down, eh?
-
JJ is back on.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
Was it heck. Just a coming together, and Luiz coming off second best.
Not a foul for me. Martinez should have played it sideways to Mings when the attacker went to close him down. Sigh.
-
Playing a bit better now.
-
Nice play. No killer instinct
-
a lot better
-
That was more like it. Unlucky.
-
Much better
-
Thought we was scoring jtnere
-
Good run and pass from JJ
-
Better since that Ings half chance.
-
Totally unnecessary risk to take in the first minute of the game, but that was a foul on Luiz.
Was it heck. Just a coming together, and Luiz coming off second best.
Not a foul for me. Martinez should have played it sideways to Mings when the attacker went to close him down.
He should have just blasted it up to the half way line
-
No foul. Stupid pass by Martinez.
-
Great corner that. FFS.
-
Much better Villa
-
Superb pass to put Ings through.
-
Penalty Villa
-
Penalty.
-
McGinn wins a penalty.
-
Pen villa
-
Great work from Buendia.
-
Won by McGinn, VAR pending
-
Ings to take it?
-
Superb pass to put Ings through.
I didn't know Ramsey had passes like that in him. Encouraging.
-
You can still book him, ref.
-
Better good move.
-
Pen.
-
Pen
-
Probably not really a pen, but I doubt it’ll get VAR’d off
-
Come on Danny
-
we look a lot better
-
Penalty
-
Cmon Danny boyl!!
-
That looked like handball off the corner before. Wonder if it went to VAR? Couple of good moves and got a penalty.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
Goal. Come on.
-
Youngie get hold of the ball.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
👏👏👏👏
-
Surely a red if it is a foul?
-
Well deserved
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ive missed this
-
Get in!
-
Yay.
-
That ball from Buendia! That's why I love him. And fair play, great run from McGinn to win the pen.
-
I was waiting for Ash to run from the bench and smash in the Pen
-
That’s better. Chalked off a shite start there
-
Gooooaaaalll. Despite the commentator's best efforts to jinx him.
-
Goooool!
-
Good, we’ve been pretty decent the last ten minutes so good to get the goal.
-
There is hope.
-
We've been the better side in the last few minutes. do not fuck up again!!
-
YES! They got away with a handball earlier, didn't get away with this one...
-
No red card? Why the fuck not?
-
Gooooaaaalll. Despite the commentator's best efforts to jinx him.
I know!
-
Glad Ings was on the pitch for the pen. Only one I have confidence in for pens.
-
YESSSSS!!!!!
-
Superb pass to put Ings through.
I didn't know Ramsey had passes like that in him. Encouraging.
I think theres so much more to come From him. He is an Exciting player.
-
Probably not really a pen, but I doubt it’ll get VAR’d off
True but every other ****** gets them like this so why not us? :-)
-
Great ball Buendia, great run McGinn. Def penalty well taken Ings.
-
Yessssssssss. That's more like it.
-
Thank fook for that.
-
That was a goal kick!!
-
How's that a fucking corner
-
This is much better.
-
No red card? Why the fuck not?
Did Dunk not even get booked, nonsense?
After a terrible opening 15 minutes we've started to work the ball around a bit better and very nearly opened them up a few minutes before.
Need to get Ramsey on the ball as much as possible in final third.
-
We’ve been good since the first 10, where we were dire.
-
Now don't fucking concede in the next thirty seconds.
-
I'm a bit behind. Great run and pass into the box for the pen. We look good and some of our play in little triangles is very good.
-
The lino is a twat!
-
Come on Villa. Far more encouraging
-
Now don't fooking concede straight away.
-
Dunk reminds me of the bloke from the Office
-
No red card? Why the fuck not?
Double jeopardy thing. Only sent off for serious foul play.
-
Away fans sound awesome as ever.
-
Ings seems pretty reliable from the spot.
-
You only get a red card now if it would have been a red anywhere else on the pitch. Recent ish rule change.
-
Ings goal https://twitter.com/goalsreplayg/status/1591798871893893120
-
You only get a red card now if it would have been a red anywhere else on the pitch. Recent ish rule change.
Ah riight! I missed that, thanks
-
The officials are shit
-
It's like Brighton have been told we play absolutely everything out from the back, but aren't very good at it.
I'm still shaking like a shitting puppy every time I see Martinez languidly sweep it out to one of our defenders when there's even a Brighton player in the same post code.
-
If that was a foul, so was there goal. Piss off ref.
-
Mings booked
-
Mings, you twat. Fucking liability.
-
Mings is own worse enemy
Bit was dunk booked ?
-
We’re not good enough to be doing this play out from the back business.
-
You only get a red card now if it would have been a red anywhere else on the pitch. Recent ish rule change.
Only if you're attempting to win the ball. Can still be given a red if the ref deems it as a clear 'play the man' foul.
-
Sorry, please explain, he got the ball, how is that even a foul, never mind a yellow?...
-
Clumsy by Ty
-
Looks like we're using offside a lot more now.
-
Mings, a disaster in the making again
-
For all our much better play since their goal, it still looks like we might gift them another goal from our trying to play it out from the back, which we seem unable to do.
-
Konsa and Mings continue to play like Laurel and Hardy. Be nice if we could be good at both ends at the same time, like last Sunday.
-
Ming’s in a nutshell. Wins the ball well, bad touch, stupid foul.
-
For all our much better play since their goal, it still looks like we might gift them another goal from our trying to play it out from the back, which we seem unable to do.
Must be at the direction of Emery.
-
That penalty came from another superb bit of vision from Emi and McGinn advancing into a position we’ve seen him for a while. That’s encouraging. But he still gives it away too much in possession in the middle.
-
Bit unlucky there Tyrone. And if you're going to book him, Dunk deserved a yellow, too.
-
We’re not good enough to be doing this play out from the back business.
Absolutely. BOOT THE FUCKER AWAY!
-
Worried by our high line.
-
That's a terrible decision to give a yellow card, it's probably just about a foul but nothing more than that.
-
Against Man U, it was all these little unenforced errors, like that from Mings to get booked, which totally handed over momentum and control of the game to them. I wish we could stay composed and just keep it simple where required.
-
Emery is clearly used to having slightly more cultured defenders at his disposal.
-
For all our much better play since their goal, it still looks like we might gift them another goal from our trying to play it out from the back, which we seem unable to do.

Commentators seem to think it's a management decision.
-

I want us to play it out from the back versus aimlessly launching it long. But what this is approach is exposing is we need better players to do it.
-
Emery is clearly used to having slightly more cultured defenders at his disposal.
if he wants to replace these then let him. Hopefully Carlos is better.
-
Well played Konsa.
-
Mings, settle it down.
-
Nice view of cash’s sack
-
Brighton was offside there
-
Referee is an absolute arse.
-
Brighton are very well oiled machine built by Potter over many years. The same types of player coming into the club as they emphasized possession football. Technically sound and very good off the ball. I want us to play this way but it won’t happen in one or two windows.
-
I’m beginning to think that we need at least one new CB
-
I’m beginning to think that we need at least one new CB
I think we certainly need to start to be more ruthless in general in terms of where we're not good enough, CB included. Hopefully a busy January.
-
I’m beginning to think that we need at least one new CB
We need a Martin O'Neill-esque overhaul.
-
That penalty came from another superb bit of vision from Emi and McGinn advancing into a position we’ve seen him for a while. That’s encouraging. But he still gives it away too much in possession in the middle.
You don't need to qualify a positive comment you know.
-
Save Emi!
-
We’re not good enough to be doing this play out from the back business.
Absolutely. BOOT THE FUCKER AWAY!
Not until we sign pau Torres and Carlos is back
-
Does that count as a shot from Martinez!
-
Good move
Ings looks ok
-
Ramsey is fucking deadly arriving late at the edge of the box. If that hadn't been blocked, he'd definitely have scored.
-

It’s an observation. Both can be true.
-
Good move
Ings looks ok
Ings is always better when he’s got Buendia in the side and not Watkins
-
Enjoyed Ings' little layoff for Ramsey there too. Don't see enough of that from Watkins.
-
Fuck me, again, playing it around at the back and seconds later we're defending another corner.
-
I don’t care what anyone says, Mings is a liability.
-
Diego seemed to be ok in pre season and in the couple of game a he played at playing it from the back. But I can see some players coming in from the continent to replace our current lot. Emery isn’t going to give up on having a more passing approach to our play. Wherever it is on the pitch.
-
I don’t care what anyone says, Mings is a liability.
He's having a nightmare
-
Fuck me, again, playing it around at the back and seconds later we're defending another corner.
It's just the Villa way :D
-
We are trying to move from fannying around at the back to playing it out from the back but our defenders are fairly cack.
-
Hot it JJ
-
I don’t care what anyone says, Mings is a liability.
He's always looked shaky when being pressured from a press.
-
These are shit at the back. We need to just get at them
-
Short pull there
-
These are shit at the back. We need to just get at them
Have you been possessed by the soul of a Brighton fan?
-
When are they getting booked
-
Aaaaaand... still no Brighton bookings.
-
Short pull there
**Kenneth Williams gif**
-
This ref isn't going to yellow card a Brighton player is he?
-
Anyone know what was different between that by March on Digne and what he booked Mings for?
-
I can see why we are being linked with Pau Torres in January.
-
Been impressed with Kamara, despite having a potentially serious injury looks like hes never been away.
-
They could easily have 3-4 bookings at this point, shocking from the ref.
-
Kamara is incredible at sensing danger and breaking up play.
-
Nothing up top to aim for so back it goes.
-
You can see sughs of good moves going fwd. Just wish the midfield would help out the back 4 when we pass around from the keeper
-
Kamara is incredible at sensing danger and breaking up play.
I was just thinking the same.
We've wanted a player like that for years and years.
-
Bit of a basketball game this half
-
There is no way long term Mings and Konsa will be our CBs. Emery will want to see Diego but in January one CB will come in and maybe one or two more by next season as we move on from Mings, Konsa and Chambers. Bednarek will go back to Southampton.
-
Aaaaaand... still no Brighton bookings.
I would say it's very strange, but it always seems to be this way with us.
-
Anyone know what was different between that by March on Digne and what he booked Mings for?
Caciedo kicking Kamara from behind when on the break aswell, the most tactical foul yellow ever and just gets ignored.
If we throw Bailey on early second half we can certainly score another here.
-
Some nice touches by Ings
-
Some nice play by Ings. Kamara seems off the pace still.
-
Some nice touches by Ings
Agreed. I do think he has worked quite hard today too.
-
Half time
-
Fuck me, every one of those corners too about half an hour to take.
-
How have Brighton not been cautioned once?
Ref is an ass.
-
Kamara is very good.
-
Some nice play by Ings. Kamara seems off the pace still.
I think him and Ramsey both look a bit leggy and like they need half-time to get a bit of a rest.
-
Anyone know what was different between that by March on Digne and what he booked Mings for?
This is when you need your captain shouted at the ref , where's the bookings.. it what the top teams do to get in the refs face , we don't moan enough.
-
Fuck me, every one of those corners too about half an hour to take.
I swear you could time a soft-boiled egg between the placing of the ball just outside the quadrant and the striking of the ball.
-
After a terrible start we’ve come back well. Our problems stem from a lack of confidence playing out of the back and we’re looking exposed when Brighton attack down their left.
-
Penalty challenge and goal https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1591800121880383494
-
FFS Emi.
Doug Luiz player of season so far.
We are better than this lot.
-
Nice link up between Ings, Buendia and Ramsey. McGinn scrappy but not very effective, Luiz and Kamara cultured but sloppy and not very effective, full backs ok, centre backs awful first 20 but improved quite a lot thereafter. Martinez good other than the iffy pass.
-
Thought that was Digne's best 45 minutes for us btw, handled their attacks down his side with ease.
-
Fuck me, every one of those corners too about half an hour to take.
Yes, even though the corners were theirs, I found myself shouting 'come on'!
-
That penalty came from another superb bit of vision from Emi and McGinn advancing into a position we’ve seen him for a while. That’s encouraging. But he still gives it away too much in possession in the middle.
You don't need to qualify a positive comment you know.
It’s an observation. Both can be true.
True.
We're doing OK today. But we didn't in 1986.
-
After a terrible start we’ve come back well. Our problems stem from a lack of confidence playing out of the back and we’re looking exposed when Brighton attack down their left.
The latter is on McGinn, he's too narrow when they get the ball and has meant their left back has loads of space. Ramsey on the left is doing far better at supporting his fullback.
-
Poor start.
Only Ramsey and Buendia look sharp in midfield. There should have been a pen for handball before Ings’ pen. What is the faxing point of var! Ref and Lino’s poor especially the Lino on Digne’s side. Need to improve after h/t.
-

You ok love? You seem to be a little rattled over nothing. Did I upset you?
-
Not too bad.
We don't seem ready to play out from the back yet.
SJM better, Kamara busy and Ings and Emi2 look dangerous at times.
Oh and Matt Holland describing our tactics perfectly. If Gerarrd was stil in charge.
-
Thankfully it's not looking like game over after conceding. Need to be more creative up front. Too much passing backwards.
-
On the plus side, considering Brighton are flying so high, I wouldn't say we have looked outclassed at any point. If anything we have a few levels we can go up.
-
Shit ref, Mings all over the place.
Kamara off the pace. UE needs to make some positive changes.
-
Poor start.
What is the faxing point of var!
I hope they get the message quickly.
-
All in all, shite.
Mings is all over the place.
-

Ramsey's been class so far under Emery, he'll really thrive under this manager.
I actually don't mind him starting out wide as its easier for him to drift into threatening positions in final third rather than from central areas.
Our problem is we can't balance it up on the other side with a direct wide player, hopefully Bailey is fit enough to contribute to decent chunk of second half when game is still level.
-
We need more players like Kamara in our side. They are out there for reasonable prices as we showed in finding him. And when you look at some of the players Leicester over the years or more recently Brentford or Brighton have picked up, we can do the same with the right philosophy from the club.
-
Mixed bag in that half. We've had some really good moves and created some good situations, but some of the decision making has been poor and we've given the ball away easily far too often.
All said though, would have definitely taken being level at the break after that start.
-
If you ignore the first 50 seconds we’ve been decent I think. Both teams press well so there’s a lot of hectic play between the defence and central midfielders going on.
Reacted to going down really well, nice touches and work off the ball from Ings in particular. Made a few really good runs in behind as well.
Kamara - class act. McGinn’s looked better in the more nuisance-causing role - as long as he’s not asked to dictate the pace of a game, he can still be a really good option I think.
Hopefully Bailey is feeling ok, I feel like if he can manage 20-30 mins he could win this for us second half.
-
Nice move to create the penalty but we aren't protecting possession well enough. Really struggling to transition the ball into midfield, both Konsa and Mings particularly. Need to see more from Luiz and Kamara.
-

Very annoying we couldn't get Bentancur signed up in January before Spurs showed an interest. Him and Kamara as the double pivot infront of back 4, wow.
When you get a midfield like that then you can seriously talk about qualifying for europe.
-
Poor start.

I think a pen for handball would've been pretty harsh, my bigger problem with the ref is the inconsistency of what constitutes a foul/booking. No yellow for Dunk for the pen and no yellows for March and Caicedo for similar professional fouls to the one he booked Mings for. I reckon you could show people who hadn't seen any of the game and say 1 of the fouls was given a booking and the Mings one would be 3rd or 4th in the list.
-
Ings needs to stop going down the middle with his pens, he did it against Brentford and did the same today and was lucky the goalie didn't save it, but otherwise he's doing ok, linking up well with Emi.
-
Matt Holland saying that SJM was looking for it, he is running at full tilt and gets cleaned out.
-
You can definitely see the beginnings of what will have to be a significant change in the way we've played until the last week or two.
Some of the players look like they might not have the ball-playing ability to adapt, but it's extremely early days - less than two weeks - and hopefully a month of work with the squad will bring us back after the WC much more schooled at doing what the manager wants them to do.
-

Mings got away with one five minutes before on halfway line when one of theirs turned him quickly so that was just a totting up yellow.
What's the actual rule with Dunk? Five years ago that would've been a penalty and red but think now it's only red if it's outside the box and a cynical foul.
I certainly wasn't calling for him to get a red but amazed he didn't get a yellow. Wolves had someone sent off last week v Brighton for a foul outside the box in a wide area so it''s another grey area interpretation of the rule.
-
Matt Holland saying that SJM was looking for it, he is running at full tilt and gets cleaned out.
Matt Holland is a complete bell end. How many times has he said that over the years about Kane or Sterling I wonder?
-

I agree with all of the above. Emery is bringing his style to the team even if it has only been 2 league games. With an effective pre-season during the World Cup, I think the second half of this season could prove to be very exciting - particularly with sensible investment and players who can actually play to this style.
-
Matt Holland saying that SJM was looking for it, he is running at full tilt and gets cleaned out.
Even if he was, so what? If he tries to stay on his feet the ref doesn't give a penalty even if it's a foul so why wouldn't he wait for the contact and go over? This a refereeing problem and has been for years. If they're serious about stopping diving it starts with refs (and pundits, commentators and coaches) learning that you can be fouled without ending up on the floor.
-
We will need a couple of Emery style players in the window. But I’d rather long term see us commit to this kind of football than the shit Gerrard was trying to serve up.
-
Matt Holland saying that SJM was looking for it, he is running at full tilt and gets cleaned out.
You are not accounting for the fact Matt Holland is an idiot.
-

Is 2 fouls really enough for a 'totting up' yellow card? Aside from that the ref normally sinals as much if they give one like that and he didn't today.
-
How many times is mcginn going to lose possession with a shit pass. Get him off ffs
-
I'd like to see us keep it strong at the back and be effective on the counter attack. It worked well against man utd first game.
-
Ings needs to stohp going down the middle with his pens, he did it against Brentford and did the same today and was lucky the goalie didn't save it, but otherwise he's doing ok, linking up well with Emi.
Ings has scored with 10 out of 11 penalties that he's taken in the Prem.
-
Twice mcginn lost the ball on the break . Pass to your own player ffs
-
How many times is mcginn going to lose possession with a shit pass. Get him off ffs
Lots more times would be my guess.
-
I'd like to see us keep it strong at the back and be effective on the counter attack. It worked well against man utd first game.
We don’t have the pace for that approach today
-
SJM sparks two attacks.
For Brighton.
-
Twice mcginn lost the ball on the break . Pass to your own player ffs
He is obsessed with shielding the ball and spinning off his defender. It slows us down and takes his eyes off the pitch. It’s increasingly annoying in this uptempo style.
-

Yeah I wasn't sure about Bentancur, thought he might be a little one paced and would struggle but from what I've seen he's a classy player and can do a bit of everything.
-
Right now as much both hold a special place in our recent memories, no way can McGinn or Mings be a part of our longer term future.
-
It’s a shame Buendia has no pace whatsoever.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
It's just all a bit frantic, zero composure.
-
Hopefully won't be too long before Bailey comes on, his pace in behind will cause them problems.
-
Goal ings
-
Kamara is doing really well today
-
Danny boy!
-
Hoping that some ht tweaks/changes by Emery will improve our overall performance. His use of substitutes will be interesting.
McGinn - Dendoncker, Bailey and Archer on too?
And that Emi's opening minutes brain storm is today's obligatory cock up out of the way.
-
Iiiiiiiiiings !!
-
Beautiful Ings!
-
What a goal
-
Ings claiming his place as our top scorer!
Goal!!!!
-
Get in.
-
Fancy feet!
-
Still can't take fucking throw ins, I see.
-
Come on Villa, hold onto this and we could have a whole month Flin5tone free.
-
Danny boy!
-
YESS!!! fucking GET IN Villa!
-
Get in!!!!
-
About time these happen for us
-
DONT CONCEDE
-
Fuck yes
-
Get in - great work and tenacity in the lead up to that goal.
-
First bit of luck we've had for months. Great stuff.
-
Danny!!!!!
-
Bloody hell Ings
-
Very good pressing from Luiz, made up for his mistake for their goal.
-
Finally a booking. The twat should have played on though.
-
In all of that tough luck for Emi with that diving header
-
Get in!!!
-
Advantage ffs
-
Buendia Starting to boss this.
-
Keep it tight for the next 5 mins. Pleeeeeeeaaaaaase!
We don't want a repetition of Thursday night's idiocy.
-
Bit of redemption there for Dougie.
-
Rubish ref
-
I’d like to see Dendoncker on for McGinn to keep the ball better in the middle.
-
Finally a booking. The twat should have played on though.
Should be a red given he got away with 2 in the 1st half.
-
Just for totting up purposes we got a booking for our 3rd foul, they got one for their 11th.
-
Ings goal https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1591813052940296192
-
I’d like to see Dendoncker on for McGinn to keep the ball better in the middle.
He'll be on for Kamara before too long. I'd bring Sanson on for McGinn and probably Bailey and Archer for Buendia dn Ings for the last 15.
-
I’d like to see Dendoncker on for McGinn to keep the ball better in the middle.
Yep that'd be a smart change at this stage of the game. Maybe Bailey also so we've got a bit more of a counter attack threat.
-
Ref is trash.
-
Looks like we've gone 5 4 1.
-
Bednarek coming on it seems
-
I've seen loads people raving about this Colwill and I just don't see it, he's quick and strong but he's a pretty poor footballer.
-
Just home. Missed the game so far.
Winning - nice!!!
How we playing..,?
-
Just home. Missed the game so far.
Winning - nice!!!
How we playing..,?
Ok. Nothing special. Getting ourselves in trouble playing it from the back which led to their goal. But we’ve fought back quite well and have just about deserved to be in front. Lots to work on still.
-
Cashed out at 2-1 and Villa win. £52 Vs £20 lay. Nice...
-
That ball was 6 inches outside of the quadrant
-
Just home. Missed the game so far.
Winning - nice!!!
How we playing..,?
Shakiest first ten minutes you'll ever see. After that we've done well, generally controlled the game without looking super dangerous ourselves. Maybe a change of shape now, so lets see what happens.
-
That ball was 6 inches outside of the quadrant
Leave it.
-
Giving the ball away to much
-
Need fresh legs in the midfield.
-
Mings did the hard stuff winning it back and then played a terrible ball into Ings who has covered by three players
-
Needs a sub or two now, to give some pace for breakaways. Bailey and/or Archer.
-
That ball was 6 inches outside of the quadrant
Leave it.
Boils my piss. Can't.
-
Ashley on for JJ
-
Mings did the hard stuff winning it back and then played a terrible ball into Ings who has covered by three players
I know! He had a runner on the wing too. Just keep it simple ffs.
-
Young on
-
Young on
French commentators hilariously calling him Ashley Old.
-
Just home. Missed the game so far.
Winning - nice!!!
How we playing..,?
Ok. Nothing special. Getting ourselves in trouble playing it from the back which led to their goal. But we’ve fought back quite well and have just about deserved to be in front. Lots to work on still.
Thanks TV.
-
Right now I don’t see how Brighton don’t get another goal before the end. The question is can we hit them on the break and get one ourselves?
-
We need to get a grip of this again. They're growing a bit.
-
Kamara is having a mare get Dendoncker on.
-
Way too early to shut up shop imo.
Don't really get why Ramsey is always the first to get hooked in second half from midfield area.
-
Never a pen in a quadrillion years
-
Looking for pen for Brighton
-
Just home. Missed the game so far.

What.. no.
-
Fuck off Carragher, you can tell he's bitter about Gerrard getting the sack.
-
Fuck off carragher
-
Close call
-
This game is like American football with all the stopages
-
Fuck off Carragher, you can tell he's bitter about Gerrard getting the sack.
Yep. Digne got the ball.
-
Hmm I think we were lucky there.
But we were due one
-
That's a penalty
-
Clear pen I'm afraid.
We need to stop p***ing around at the back and actually clear the ball first time.
Lucky to get away from that.
-
Carragher you plank, thats never a penalty.
-
This has become horribly scrappy, we've invited trouble. On a minor note, has anyone noticed how Carragher only ever refers to us as Aston Villa, never just as Villa?
-
Carragher is mental.
-
If anything it's a foul on Digne.
-
It’s Leon time.
-
We need to get a grip of this
Get dendonker on
Bailey too
-
Not a penalty. Piss off.
-
I cant see what Carragher is looking at myself.
-
Come on Leon
-
Right now I don’t see how Brighton don’t get another goal before the end. The question is can we hit them on the break and get one ourselves?
They've had 2 shots after 70 mins, I can easily see how they don't.
-
Fuck off is that a penalty.
-
I expected them to give it. Can't see us not conceding another here, hopefully we can nab one on the break.
-
Clear pen I'm afraid.
We need to stop p***ing around at the back and actually clear the ball first time.
Lucky to get away from that.
Nah, can't give a penalty for that, remember March is the one making the tackle.
-
Carragher is a cock.
-
Bailey for Buendia.
-
No one in this thread would be saying that wasn't a penalty if Dunk had connected with McGinn in that way.
That's the issue with having so few attacking players on the pitch now, our guys are taking 2-3 touches in our own box because it's just Ings on halfway line to hit up to.
Bailey coming on, he is going to be needed in last 20 minutes just for some counter attacks.
-
Fuck off Carragher, you can tell he's bitter about Gerrard getting the sack.
You could tell that all afternoon.
That said, what the fuck is our French international left back doing there, and how is that not a pen? That’s the most I think I’ve ever seen us get away with one, but I’ll take it, we haven’t had many down the years.
-

Shhhhh!
-
Big ask for Bailey. I hope he keeps his head up,
-
Need to do something as generally I wouldn't trust us to hold out and defend with 20 odd minutes still to go.
-
Penalty my arse, fucking idiot. Was March the one that got away with the one on Trez a couple of seasons back? Tosser
-

Nah, can't give a penalty for that, remember March is the one making the tackle.
Amazed they haven't taken March off, he's offered so little down their right. Especially with Tariq Lampety on their bench. I'd be happy for us to sign him.
-
I have checked with my ultra scrutinising technology (eyes) and can confirm it was never a penalty.
-
Digne played the ball. Not like he meant to, but his touch still played the ball in the opposite direction to southern stripey. Not a penalty.
-

We had a penalty cancelled against these a year or so back that was far clearer than that and it was completley incomparable with the pen we got today.
-
Never a penalty. Pundits only say it’s a penalty if there’s contact when it suits their agenda. Digne did make contact but it wasn’t a foul.
-
Considering we have everyone behind the ball, they're still passing through us.
-

De Bruyne got one just last week for hardly any contact, I'm amazed they didn't suggest to ref to go to the monitor given Digne kicked through March to eventually clear the ball.
We got away with one there.
-
Martinez loves a cheeky shithousing. 😀
-
We’re playing in a 631 formation. That’s a new one on me.
-
Martinez loves a cheeky shithousing. 😀
I love his shithousery.
-
Crowd booking, there.
-
As a Claret Member, I can confirm that it was never a pen but would have been up the other end.
-

Have no recollection of that at all, was that a lockdown game?
Still trying to work out what penalty we should've got for handball in first half as have no idea on that either.
-
Every Villa tackle is a booking.
-
The Donk is coming on. And Ludwig.
Ok, they may score!
-
This ref needs to be demoted to League 1. Such a poor display.
-
Caciedo avoiding a red today is incredible.
Of course with this ref Cash is the one who gets booked from that incident.
-

Was a foul won by trezeguet but got overturned because the ball brushed the players leg as he clattered straight into Trez.

He'd 'cleared' the ball before he made contact.
-
Ref has been bad and is now gagging to give Brighton a penalty.
-
It unnerves me that we're inviting them on with this formation.
-
We've made 9 fouls and got 4 yellows from it. Brighton 12 and barely a talking to.
-
Ludwig coming on ?
-
Oh he does book Brighton people... only the manager though!
-
Cash booked for taking less time to take a throw than March has taken for every single corner they've been given.
Bailey given a yelooow for a oful that wouldn't rank in the top 10 in the game.
-
Ref has been bad and is now gagging to give Brighton a penalty.
Maybe if they got in our box a little more often they might have a chance.
-
Ludwig on for Digne
Donk on for Doug
Archer on for Ings
-
The third time this half a ball played to an offside Brighton player hasn't been pulled up and play continued
-
Oh no Martinez is down, I hope he's ok.........!!!
-
Is it a 9-0-1 formation?
-
Emi black magic now in operation!
Not sure Brighton will give us the goal back from this.
-
Oh no Martinez is down, I hope he's ok.........!!!
I'm worried sick, mate.
-
This Ref has lot the plot.
-
Where's dondonkers slug gone ?
-
We'll still be playing at 5pm at this rate
-
Who had their manager getting a yellow card on their match bingo card?
-
The third time this half a ball played to an offside Brighton player hasn't been pulled up and play continued
Criminal negligence
-
Young booked
-
Emery making a triple save at 2-1 up with 10 minutes late.
So nice to be managed by someone from the 21st century for once with regards game management nous.
-
So how many substitution windows do we get?
-
Ha ha. Trossard tried to kick it out for a Villa thrown in at the corner flag, and missed, hit it out for a goal kick!
-
Emery making a triple save at 2-1 up with 10 minutes late.
So he's a better keeper than Olsen.
-
Is it a 9-0-1 formation?
My mistake, it's 10-0-0.
-
Fucking hell ref
-
Young booked
A little bit of Italian defending by Ash there
-
Young's tackle is the only one so far that's really deserved a card! haha
-
Card happy red ! (Ashley’s aside )
-
This ref is really an arse!
-
Kamara booked
-
This ref has lost it.
-
I hope all these yellow cards are worth it
-
Are the Brighton fans calling us dirty northern wankers?
-
Fucking both with feet up, you ******!
-
Thought Kamara had been booked first half.
FA will be licking their lips at giving us a fine through the post tomorrow morning.
-
Watkins would've run offside there
-
Ref has completely lost the plot now, giving bookings for every tackle.
-
Excellent to get a corner there Bailey.
-
Ref ambling about like Billy Bunter. What a ******
-
Sitter missed
-
Good stuff from Bailey + Young, keep getting the ball that side and they'll manage the game for us in these last 10 minutes.
-
Marking????
-
Be nice if we could hold posssession for 20 seconds
-
We're "Dirty Northern bastards". Oh my sides
-
What are we saying, 6/7 minutes added time?
-
Going to be a lot of stoppage isn't there
-
Colwell misses a free header.
-
I have the usual last 5 minutes plus injury time puckering sphincter.
Come on Villa.
-
A let off then.
-
What are we saying, 6/7 minutes added time?
I"d say 8 or 9.
-
We are surviving by the skin of our bollocks right now. Where these yellows might hurt is the extra time it adds to the end of the game.
Edit: and there you go - 8 minutes of added time FFS
-
Eight fucking minutes.
-
88 minutes stoppage
-
That linesman telling McGinn to hurry up with the corner.
Fucking jobsworth. Football really is utterly riddled with penises
-
8 mins added time
-
8 minutes 👎
-
8 mins !!!!
-
Colwell misses a free header.
With all the players we had back as well.
-
88 minutes stoppage
Young will be knackered!
-
What a miss for them.
All these defensive players and we give them a free header in six yard box.
Hopefully they won't get a better chance than that in the 6-7 minutes of injury time but that's a warning we need to heed.
-
Scandalous, but predictable.
-
How bloody many minutes?....
-
Refereeing in this country is at an all time low.
-
My bowles sense a late gutting equaliser.
-
Ref has been yellow card gung-ho
-
Oh for the 2007/2008 version of Gabby and Ash now to hit Brighton on the counter.
-
My stream has gone back to stoppage time at the end of the first half! :D
I don't like Brighton very much
-
Pretty much everyone predicted 7-9 added mins, so it's hardly a surprise when it's 8 mins.
-
How bloody many minutes?....
Eight, I've heard.
-
8 mins !!!!
Perhaps the ref is on an hourly rate not a salary.
-
Is there a film of Emery conducting our play?
-
I'm sure we could be doing more to move the ball around, and retain some possession here.
-
How many minutes? Nobody said
-
My stream has gone back to stoppage time at the end of the first half! :D
I don't like Brighton very much
Wanky club.
-
8 mins !!!!
Perhaps the ref is on an hourly rate not a salary.
Paid per card, it would seem.
-
Good stuff from McGinn.
This game will hit 100th min mark.
-
That ref is biassed
-
Lampty. There's a blast from the past
-
My stream has gone back to stoppage time at the end of the first half! :D
I don't like Brighton very much
Wanky club.
Aren't they fucking just. Wankers.
With players called Solly. Fuck em
-
My stream has gone back to stoppage time at the end of the first half! :D
I don't like Brighton very much
Wanky club.
Jumped up wankers who think a few years in the premier league makes them as a big a club as teams like us and Everton, cocky pricks.
-
Brighton Cocks.
-
8 mins !!!!
Seems almost par for the course this season- all the extra substitutions must be part of the reason?
Perhaps the ref is on an hourly rate not a salary.

Yep.
-
Archer is covering some ground. Good lad!
-

This is why I'm ok with the idea of stopping the clock and playing an hour of the ball in play, gets rid of all the arguments of how much time is added and decentivises time wasting.
-
Two minutes. C’mon Villa boys. Hold on here
-
Best McGinn game for ages.
-
Emi booked
-
That's F-V's post-game rant sorted.
-
Mcginn's doing well.
-
That Argentinian in the Brighton team is as bland as they come. How on earth is he going to be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Messi?
Well played John McGinn!
-
I really need a wee
-
McGinn booked
-
LOL Emi yellow card. Solid shithousery
-
FT
-
I love this manager.
-
And breathe!
-
Yesssssss
-
Get the fuck in Villa and Unai
-
YAS!
-
Told you they wouldn't score again, bunch of panicking tarts!
-
Jesus but that is a sweet victory!
-
2-1 Final score. Nail biter.
-
Totally deserved.
-
There's absolutely no way our performance deserves 7 yellow cards, fucking joke referee.
-
...and relax.
-
Well piss my pants
-
Not pretty but lots of grit.
-
Wow, hard fought and far from error free. But, a win.
-
YESS!!!!! GET IN!
Brilliant. Big call to go so defensive, we rode our luck a bit, but worked hard for that. Excellent stuff Villa.
-
I take that
-
There's absolutely no way our performance deserves 7 yellow cards, fucking joke referee.
Joke about it being the last game before Xmas...
-
Happy days!
-
7 Yellows - hardly a blood and thunder natch.
Expect we'll be on the Prem's naughty step for that number of bookings.
-
Brilliantly professional. Not pretty at the end but who cares thats 6 points from the last two games. VTID!!!
-
That Argentinian in the Brighton team is as bland as they come. How on earth is he going to be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Messi?
Well played John McGinn!
Yeah he's in and Buendia isn't. Figure that out...
-
Shows we have a siege plan if necessary
-

Agreed
