After a magnificent funeralling at Villa Park, Manchester United are hosting the mighty Aston Villa in the League/"English" Football League/ Carabao/ Egg Cup third round tie on Thursday 10th November (kick-off at 8pm GMT).
1-2 and Unai Emery to school Walter White.

Villa on pens 11.10

This will be an interesting one.
They don’t usually field a full strength team for this competition, but, after yesterday, will they be full on for revenge?
I expect a different approach from us this time
Can see this going extra time/penalties
-
This totally depends on how they both view it. I’m thinking that they will make almost a team worth of changes and I’m sure we’ll make a few too. Should be a good game with players all over with something to prove. 2-1 to us
-
Emery seems to like cup competitions so I’d like to think we can do them again on Thursday.
-
I know it’s fallen off the badge, but I am pretty sure we will be Prepared.

We're on 6/9 points since the food references began, good idea to keep it going.

And absolutely scrumptious
-
Here are some pintxos I had in San Sebastián last week. They seem to be evolving in a tight diamond, flanked by two wide Gin & Kas Limón with two glasses of albariño supporting. Growing up here eating pintxos may be how Emery developed his tactics. Who knows?

-
I'd like to see Sanson, Archer & Chambers given a run out. Kamara could get some more minutes under his belt. JJ said Emery has given all players a clean slate, so this would be a good chance for Emery to see what some of the others can offer.

I think we gathered that, anytime I see an 'x' where it's not really warranted it's usually Basque related. :)
Anyway 3-1 to Villa Boys. 8) Bailey, Digne and Ramsey for us, Luke Shaw for them.
-
Looking forward to this one. Haven't been to their place since the 1996 FA Cup semi final.

I went to that game. It was dreadful and the stadium was more like a building site

My God I miss albariño. Haven't had any in years now.
-
We're nearly at the international break so I reckon both sides will go full strength. I'm certain the officials will be discussed at length after this one.

It's a shed on a trading estate with a shop attached.
Your best bet might be to try parking in Altrincham, going for a drink there and then getting the tram to Old Trafford station by the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground and walking down to the game from there.

2-0.

Parked for about £5 on the trading estate about 5 minutes walk from the ground last year, just off Chrester Rd, was away in no time after the game

I think we will beat them again 2-1.

I make you right Daz. I hope it's a last minute winner this time.
-
Albariño - should have been txakoli surely?
It could have been but two of the party went for Albariño.
-
Another chance to put these wankers in their place and another big test for us and the new staff. I imagine some changes. Let’s see how we set up for an away game. We have a manager who has mastered the dark arts of Knick out competitions so hopefully we see some of that success coming our way.
I’ll go for an optimistic 2-1 to us. Ollie and Bailey.

Indeed. I did have a smile yesterday at the Villa fan in the Holte who'd brought a Spanish flag to welcome Unai. Beijing Villan 4 Lyf? A Basque flag, now that would have been beautiful.

1-3 away win
Ings , Bailey and Archer.
Archer off the bench to score
Olsen
Chambers Mings Bednarek Young
Kamara Luiz McGinn
Ings Bailey Ramsey
-
Did we do them in the league/League Cup in quick succession back in '92 or '93 ?
-
October-November 1992.
-
Pick the first team, whether that's the same as Sunday or one or two tactical tweaks. We're trying to win this.
No daft stuff to give reserves a game
-
It can't be the same as Sunday as Dendoncker is cup-tied. I'd be tempted to put Kamara in for him, promote Archer to the bench, and not change anything else.

Going to this on Thursday. Looking forward to it. I’m sure the Villa fans will make their presence felt. With our numbers we need to be putting pressure on the referee to ensure decisions don’t all go their way.
Optimistic after yesterday, after all it’s an Emery team playing manu.
Come on Villa boys! UTV!

-
Yep. They went pretty much full strength in every Europa League game until they'd secured qualification so would be surprised to see too many kids in the team.

One for the Statos have we ever beaten them twice in 4 days, I would have thought almost certainly the answer's no.

We beat them twice in two days in 1954.

Another one for the stattos. We had 6 shots against them yesterday, two less than the number of times 'El Maestro' was misspelt on here during the game.

Top 4 is their target then a cup with emphasis on the Europa Cup. Barcelona in the next round mind so their chances are instantly lessened even though they don't seem to be the force they once were. It's hard to see how they will approach this game. Throw it and put the reserves in, revenge, concentrate on the league or all out attack with their best side available? It's important to us so we are as we were.

Sanson hat trick. 3 zip to Unai's tricky Villans

This could be a cracking game. If we treat the game as if it matters to us, and I believe we will, we have a decent chance of winning this. Lets make them hate us for once.

I want them to fucking hate playing us again, and I want to see a stat in 8 years time that says Jacob Ramsey has scored more goals for us against them than anyone else in his stellar career, even taking into account the successive hat tricks in three consecutive Champions Cup finals against Madrid.
-
Unai is the cup king.
We are going to win in style.
-
I reckon there's a good chance both sides will go pretty full strength.
Might be time that clubs start withdrawing players in case of picking up injury before this farce of a World Cup. No need for Cash to be playing for example. Though I'm willing for an exception to be made for Martinez. Have we anyone else likely to be going?
-
Possibly Dendoncker but other than that I can't think of anybody.

Is this on the box?

Yes, on Sky.

I’ve paid about £7 to park at the cricket ground.

I've no idea what line up or formation we'll see. That pleases me.
-
Any word on who the ref is yet? Wouldn't be surprised if Matt Busby's Ghost got the job after yesterday.
-
I hope Emery takes this seriously, as a serial cup winner you’d hope he would.
I personally wouldn’t be prioritising international countries world cup squads over a possible cup run, so strongest side possible for me.
I think they will have some players back like Fernandes and Anthony, so will be more competitive than yesterday. I can see this being close, even penalties.
Dendonker cup tied for us, so id go with this.
Martinez
Cash. Konsa. Mings Digne
Luiz. Kamara
Ramsey. Beundia
Watkins. Bailey
Sanson on for Kamara at some point.
2-2, we win on pens and i get home at 1am if lucky.
-

Lucky enough to get a ticket and hoping to get home quicker than the Bolton game which was a bit of a nightmare, saying that if we win I don’t care what time it is.
-
They will be out for revenge, we need to be strong defensively especially in the opening 20 minutes.
Expect Rashford and rat face to be throwing themselves to the ground in the penalty area.

Agree with all of that, including the ETA for home....except for the Sanson thing....he's not a defensive MF. Nakamba would be a better choice to replace Kamara, Sanson on for Ramsey perhaps.
UTV!
-
As long as the result is based on the football played and not a shit refereeing or VAR decision then so be it.
A new manager, cup specialist, 7k in the ground, the club bouncing and players confident means we will win, but not easily.
1-1
Win on pens.

I'd be wary of rushing Kamara back so soon, he's not ready to start and Leander was absolutely excellent on Sunday. Emery said he wasn't going to change too much to begin with, and we only have 2 matches before the break.
Possibly chambers could get a start, and would love to see Archer on the bench.
-
Forgot that he had Chambers at Arsenal too, be interesting to see how he rates him.
-
Chambers in the Dendonkar role would be my preference and the only change. But I think I trust Emery to make the right decision.
-
yeah he was on loan for Emery's first season, then started well in his second. He scored against us didn't he?

Spot on. We've had the hard graft win last year, we've outplayed them this year, now I want the kind of absolute jam festival, the total shithousathon they've inflicted on so many times over the years.
-
It’s great to be really looking forward to matches again.
-
I'd just start with the same team as Sunday i think. Even though we're capable of it as we showed on Sunday i'm not confident of a win. Just a bit too good to be true and it is away of course.
-
Dendoncker is cup tied. (As is Bednarek).
I'd start with Kamara in his place. I'd like to see Archer come on for a decent number of minutes. I think the Unai set up and patterns of play will suit our Cameron.
Also, thanks for the advice on where to park, guys. Utv.
-
Ah, i see. I think it would be Nakamba for me then, give him a run out. Kamara to come on at some point.
-
Not wishing to steal Legions glory here but we couldn’t go on Sunday for personal family reasons it’s the first home game we’ve missed for ages
And we go and beat them in for the first time in a million years
Bad news is we’re all going up on Thursday night so we’ve got no hope of a repeat result
-
Hopefully Kamara starts, but I'd suspect he'll be limited to around 60 mins by the medical team. I can't see Nakamba being involved so will prob mean McGinn coming on to drop in alongside Doug?
Other than Kamara and possibly Digne coming back from their injuries (and any carrying a knock) I wouldn't be looking to manage minutes too much in this selection, it's only two games to the w/c break and they should really all be capable of that workload.
There will be players hoping for minutes, but I think Emery will really want to win this one so hopefully minimal changes to the starting line up. Once we're 4-0 up then would be good to see Archer, Sanson and Chambers get some minutes.
-
I think Sanson might start, just a feeling

I think Sanson might start, just a feeling
Reckon the same. Think with his dribbling and general being-a-pest attitude, not to mention his, ahem, slight physique, he'd come in for the Buendia role rather than the Luiz role.

You might be on to something there. That would be interesting to see.
-
I think we have a few players who could revive things in those wide midfield roles we had the other day. Sanson, McGinn, Coutinho...
-
I think Sanson might start, just a feeling
With the World Cup just around the corner I'd bring in Marvelous and instruct him to run around kicking people. Yellow card and bring on Sanson.

I think we'll get done. The ref will definitely be on their side.

Indeed he should be. The heavy traffic tends to build up around Runcorn.

This is where I prefer the pun to be more Shakespearean, with a little work required. "Nah he'll be alright." "It could be soul destroying."

Driving up on Thursday, not been for a few years and that was on the coach. Where is the best place to park? Was thinking about Altrincham then getting the tram in?
Free parking at Tesco, 2 minute walk for the tram - over the bridge turn right, tram every 20 minutes, 15 minute ride, 5 minute walk from Old Trafford stop to the ground. Some great pubs and bars in Alty if you have the chauffeur on duty.
-
As a previous resident of Alty I can thoroughly recommend it for beer and then a quick tram to the ground. Bit of a tram queue afterwards to get back but you’re 5 mins off the M6 so hardly a chore.
-
i have no doubt that we will polish these off in 90 minutes.

I fear lightening will not strike twice
We may be happy as fuck now but they have not changed and the officials will not change - i can see them spawning another victory

I almost want this for the Emi Martinez shithouse extravaganza it would be

Think Sunday's experience might have dispelled the chance that they might not have their eye on this one. There is also every chance that we will have a biased ref to contend with, but I hope we go full strength and have a real go.

Or maybe Emi Martinez misses Brighton before the world cup after Argentina request.

Give it up for fucks sake

Just covering all bases regards goal keeping and reminding people the circumstances with a world cup coming up Argentina made a request so it's a bit much to have Emi Martinez play both Thursday and Sunday.
-
Premier League clubs have told the Argentine FA where they can stick their request. It's only the third round, but it's still them. We have to put out close to if not our best available team, get the win, keep the momentum going through the final weekend and go into the break on a high. Martinez plays for me.

Good news, guys.
We're winning this competition.

Final is Sunday 26th Feb. It means our scheduled league game at Everton needs rearranging. The Cup can be paraded around the ground the following weekend when we play Palace at home.

Please stop mate.

There is no doubt in my mind that an International goalkeeper can play two games in four days.

There is literally zero chance of the clubs keeping their England, France, Wales, Spain, Senegal, Australia, South Korea, etc, players until the last minute but releasing their Argentinians early to do them a favour. Why on Earth would they even vaguely consider the possibility?

Ok lets see.
As much as Emi Martinez likes it at Villa he's an Argentinian first.
And this is the country chance- its unique situation this world cup
Anyway are you not supporting him at the World Cup ?
People laud his antics and gamesmanship on the pitch well he will be breaking bad sure that he'll not pick up any injury before he's released.
-
I'd like him to do well at the World Cup. He won't be released early, the Premier League have confirmed they won't release any Argentinian players early and there would be no reason for us to prioritise Argentina over other nations. There is literally no way he will be missing Sunday's game to fly to the World Cup early so please stop obsessing over the idea.
There is more chance of Dennis Bergkamp and B.A. Baracus boarding a plane together for Qatar before Sunday than there is of Emiliano Martinez doing so.
-
He may not officially be released earlier but I think he wont play both Man Utd and Brighton matches.

I’ve got a spare ticket for this game tonight if anyones around picadilly later to pick it up

Don't be too disappointed if Martinez doesn't play in both games or maybe just one half tonight/if it goes to penalties. Let's see what happens for Sunday as well.
I highlighted many justifications for player, club and country that it could be a case, (fitness, world cup, rotation)I merely wanted to raise the prospect that he might be rested.

NO NO NO. No resting just play the best available team.

Or Emery might take it seriously and think about winning the trophy plus the FA cup as well

Would be bonkers to play a weakened team, only one more league game and then the vast majority are staying here.

And we've already told them to get fucked in any case.
Breaking Bad? I thought BE had christened Eric Ten Haag as Walter White II.

. Maguire passes it back to the United keeper with 10 seconds left and loops it over the keeper, winning goal for us and Mings with a big smile on his face

Full strength team tonight.
No excuses as I’m having a beer. That’s dedication.

Strong but defensive line up. Think Ollie is going to have to drop behind Danny to assist with creative. Jacob seems to be the man for the fast breaks
