We go again. This time in the capable hands of one of the top managers in the world. It will take time to fix much of what needs fixing. And there is a lot as we saw last time out. But this is a process and he will quickly get to see what he’s got to work with and we will see in the next few games if his adjustments and coaching make a difference.
Good luck Urai. UTV
Villa to fight through the officiating bias to win 2-1
-
1-2 They are on form, we're not.
We'll have a shape, that's for sure, and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else playing. Chambers and Sanson for example.
-
If they play better than us, we'll be defeated. If we play better than them, we'll be cheated.

could not of put it any better...

A real curates egg of a game but one I'm looking forward to, in part because we're having a day out.
We have more than enough to beat them but equally they can be very good if they feel like it. I believe Ratface and Dallot are suspended and that's the first time in an age I can remember something falling in our favour where these wankers are concerned. A new manager, enthused crowd, fair wind and independent officials will see us home.
2-0
Apply the officials factor = 1-1
-
They won't need to cheat to win if we play as we usually do.
However, Emery factor prevails and we win 2-1. Bailey with both. That greasy fuck for them.
-
The law of averages is the supposed principle that future events are likely to turn out so that they balance any past deviation from a presumed average.
-
They won't need to cheat to win if we play as we usually do.
Well, they have the last four times they've beaten us.

It's insane the number of ridiculously questionable decisions they've had in their favour in just the games since we came back up.
-

Yeah but you're a taxdodger by name so why should we trust you?
-
That Fernandes / Konsa decision still makes me 'laugh'.
-
Positive about this game with the new man in charge.
I’m confident we can get a result with the Villa fans fully behind Emery and the team, so long as var and the ref play fair. UTV.
-
That Fernandes / Konsa decision still makes me 'laugh'.
I liked the one where their keeper bought down Watkins and Watkins got sent off.
-
And who could forget the slime that was Pogba berating Shaw for not throwing himself to the floor to then fall over his own leg whilst conning the ref that Luiz had fouled him
I hate these, the players the club, the fans everything about them
It will make a great weekend to beat these shithouses
-
And who could forget the FA Cup tie where they had get in the DeLorean to find something to disallow our goal.

Now now...let's be fair, Pogba did his best to ruin that club.

Gifting a win to us at Villa Park would've had him ejected a lot sooner, the daft sod.

The one when O'Leary was boss and we had a goal disallowed because two of their own players collided with each other was a bit special as well.

Well, they have the last four times they've beaten us.
That's a fair point!
I just meant if we play as badly as we have done this season, they'll win at a canter. The bastards
-
I have a feeling we'll win this one, break the hoodoo and get the Emery era off to a flying start. 2-0 to the Villa Boys!! 8)
-
As luck would have it I'm in Manchester this weekend. Checked trains for the game and could only find options for 100 quid return. Guess I'll be watching from a Manc pub instead.

This is the year we finally do it.
FTF x 50.

With Saturday and Monday being strike days I would imagine a fairly disrupted service for Sunday trains.

Conundrum:
1) At the beginning, a new manager often likes to 'tighten up' at the back, Build a foundation. 4-5-1, Lose 0-1
2) Our home form is decent, United very lucky to beat Hammers last Sunday. Be brave, 4-2-3-1. Win 2-1
Be brave Emery
-
Imagine if we won. He'd be instantly deified for managing to vanquish this lot for the first time at home in 27 sodding year.
-
Well, arguably two of our better performances have been Man City and Chelsea at home, where we've had a go at them, and we were unlucky not to have more points from those two games.
-
Utd will cheat an early goal, their fans will sing a rousing rendition of "VAR, they're one of our own" before Unai gives the signal and we twat them 5-1.
-
This country has had eight different Prime Ministers since the last home league win against this lot.
-
They won't need to cheat to win if we play as we usually do.
However, Emery factor prevails and we win 2-1. Bailey with both. That greasy fuck for them.
He is banned unless you mean Ronald
-
Who are the Plastics playing as referee and in the VAR room?
-
They’re in decent form and we never beat them at home, so we’ll lose I suspect.
-
And who could forget the FA Cup tie where they had get in the DeLorean to find something to disallow our goal.
I was fooking there and nearly a year later it still winds me up. Especially as I’m convinced we would of gone onto win.
After the relative excitement of the Sunday win over Brentford and Monday appointment of Emery, i fancied us to break the 27 year hoodoo. Im not sure now after the Newcastle fiasco. They’ve won 7 out of 8 or something similar and Ten Haag is doing a decent job there. It would take some level of performance to turn them over.
But feck it, 2-1 us (Bailey, Luiz)
-
Kamara back for this per chance? He's on the training videos.
-
0-2.
-

Ha, I was talking about Ronaldo, but I realise my comment wasa bit vague. Could be one of about 20 of their players.
Great that Fernandes is out
-
If anyone believes in omens, a bunch of lions made an escape attempt for the zoo in Sydney yesterday. Something is stirring.
-
As per last week they are a much improved side so it will be a good test.
-
They are still not a great team but are better organised and playing with more confidence purpose.
The right side of defence with Maguire at R CB looks dodgy and you can probably see Scottish bloke Fred Erickson in midfield, the winger is a showboating tattooed pussy Rashford and Renaldo can be contained.
However their most important player is the ref so 1 2 to them
-
They will not have a clue of who Unai is going to pick and how he will set us up.
It will interesting to see who has impressed Unai in training, we may be in for a surprise or 2 with his team selection.
At least rat face will not be playing so he won't be constantly moaning at the ref every 30 seconds
Start of a new era 2-1 win.
-
The ref for this match will be so important.
As most of them lick the mancs arses. Michael Oliver would be a nightmare
-
Match officials confirmed for Aston Villa vs Manchester United
Aston Villa are preparing to face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, November 6.
United celebrated a 1-0 victory over West Ham last weekend, meanwhile, Villa suffered a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Currently, the Red Devils are 5th in the league table, while Villa are 16th with 12 points.
Ahead of the game, match officials have been confirmed. Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the referee.
Match officials in full:
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Assistants: Gary Beswick, Adam Nunn.
Fourth official: Craig Pawson.
VAR: Peter Bankes.
Assistant VAR: Scott Ledger.
-
Cheers.
-
Taylor was born in Wythenshawe, south Manchester, and despite being pictured supporting Altrincham FC, many City fans claim he and his family are fans of Man United.
-
I don't remember anything too controversial from Taylor in games he's reffed for us, so what a great opportunity for him to break that duck and award them a highly controversial penalty.
-
Will remember to bring a book to read for the twenty minutes VAR check before they disallow it if Villa score.
Why are we allowed to have a Mancunian referee? We never have a Brummie ref, do we?
-
It's ludicrous.
Anyway, I'm just interested in Unai's team selection. Genuinely no idea what he's going to do.
-
If I was the club I would be questioning this immediately, if only to make the point pre match rather than post where we may be accused of sour grapes.
The problem now is that the slightest 50/50 that goes in their favour will see the fans in uproar, unnecessarily so.
I'm more inclined to back the officials given the abuse they get, particularly down the pyramid and at grass roots but at the top of the game they don;t help themselves so fuck them, I'll be on his back from the first minute.
-

All wankers.
-
So the ref will be from the Cotton Village. That is outrageous.
-
Andre Marriner is self confessed Villa fan, and thus doesn't do our games. Maybe he should have just bulshitted that he's a Solihull Moors fan.
-
This is the biggest game in football for me, my dad and uncle would talk about the 1957 cup win whenever they were together and then beating them in the LC semi final brought a tear or two to my dads eye. I think new manager bounce (for real this time) and our backing will get us a win. Archer must start for me though, it’s surely his time now.
-
Beating these twats would be the best "new manager bounce" ever.
-
I dislike them more than our local rivals, to be honest; not only for the gloryhunter tag, not only because their fans seem - over the years - to have flouted all the boundaries (setting fire to Carrow Road, obligatory pitch invasions when scoring at VP; to name 2), not only for their flagrant self-entitlement, not only for Fergie-time ....
... all of that, and in my formative years I frequently encountered the self-styled Elmdon Reds - all w*****s to a man.
Having said all that, I suppose if I still lived in the Brum area I'd have a deeper loathing of the Bitters and the Inbred than I do: I am simply dismissive of them now.
-
Beating these twats twice in a week would be the best "new manager bounce" ever.
Fixed.

I'm going to be controversial here, but in recent years their struggles seem to have made their fans almost normal. I've sensed a bit humility in them for the first time.
Was up there for the win last year in the league in corporate and everyone was sound with us, before and after the game.

Apart from Roy Keane who glared at you throughout your consumption of prawn sandwiches (king-sized with garlic, chili and lime no doubt).
-
Very interesting first selection. No idea how popular Martinez or Chambers were under him at Arsenal (not very I'd assume). Can't imagine he will switch to 433, or bring in a Sanson or Nakamba from the cold for the first game. Ramsey definitely to come in and perhaps McGinn for Bailey (but not as captain).
Eriksen and Fernandes playing very well from what I've seen. Shaw and Maguire starting should be a positive for us. 0-0.
---------------Martinez
Young, Chambers, Mings, Digne
----------Luiz, Dendoncker
McGinn , Buendia, Ramsey

Cuntyest club, cuntyest players and cuntyest fans (this in particular) over the course of the last 40 years. Probably longer i'm sure.

I am waiting for VAR to disallow Kortney Hause goal.

We didn't get Roy Keane, we got the man Roy Keane was always trying to be. Russell Beardsmore.
And to be fair to him, he was a good lad, he sat for a good 10 minutes talking to the 4 of us Villa fans.
-
I do really hate them, obviously, but with City and Newcastle around in the form that they are it just puts it in perspective. Not that they aren't, in a way, also responsible, ushering in as they did (along with Real Madrid) the idea of the corporate superclub.

I was there as well, with my mate who's got Man U hospitality. Halfway through the meal, the compere said "Can I have a bit of quiet please ladies and gentlemen, we've got a very special guest to introduce to you today, charge your glasses and give a big hand to *dramatic pause for effect*...Phil Collins son, Simon!"

They've got a lot of corporate, must have been a few ex-players on holiday that week and Luke Chadwick can only be used after dinner.
-

Don't know which section you were in, but ours was shit. Steak and chips at 10 in the morning. Crap seats as well, not a patch on Villa.
-
There will be some kind of VAR drama, misuse of the rules etc and we will lose. I'm just used to it now against these vile wankers that I write the 2 games off automatically and anything other than being cheated in to a defeat by them is a nice bonus.
-
I'm not expecting miracles from Unai overnight, but please just give us a bit of hope that things might look a lot better in a few weeks. And a 3-0 win, obvs.
-
At least that wanker Bruno Fernandes isn't playing.
Wouldn't want him stamping on any of our players to buy himself a penalty. Again.

We were at what was always known as the Scoreboard End, but the opposite side to our fans. They've got sections all over the place by all accounts, the food was pretty bog standard but the staff were sound. Not a patch on what you get mind, like comparing a Hungry Horse to Purnells.

That's obvious for me. At least our local rivals support their local clubs and are genuine fans. The Sky 6 clubs are really who the rest of the league and pyramid should be hating. Local rivalries mean little now imo.
-
When did we last beat them at home?
-
When did we last beat them at home?
If I remember rightly we beat them in the league cup when they rested a few and had Bosnich in goal. The last time in the league was in the seventeenth century.
-
There can't be many League records anywhere worse than ours against them.
-
When did we last beat them at home?
In the league, August 1995.
-
When did we last beat them at home?
Apparently when they came here with their kids.
-
3-0 League Cup, October 1999.
-
When did we last beat them at home?
In the league, August 1995.
It’s gotta be time.
-
I hate them - more than probably any other club. Even now they are also-rans and have a dilapidated ground, they are the epitome of everything that is wrong in English football.
-
Seems like they will be missing a few on Sunday including Fernandes who is suspended, and have a game in Europe tonight.
-
Unai is a Sociedad boy, right? Can't he use his contacts at the club to get their players to leave a few tackles in on whoever is good for ManYoo these days.
-
I doubt Man U will be playing their full team this evening.
-
No, but there'll be enough of them.
-
Here we go again.
The match I detest the most every season. I hate their cunting fants, their cunting team and their cunting club.
I hate the fact we can’t beat them, the way they cheat and scam us and every cunting referee that has taken charge of this game for 20 years.
I hate us losing to anyone, but losing to these just cuts deeper than any other loss.
The ONLY way I am going to get over this hate is for us to finally beat the bastards.
PLEASE VILLA….JUST WIN.
-
Let’s beat these horrible bastards.
And the officials & VAR
-
We like to gift them a goal or two most times at VP
-
I doubt Man U will be playing their full team this evening.
Seems like they are. Maguire up front!
-
It's ludicrous.
Anyway, I'm just interested in Unai's team selection. Genuinely no idea what he's going to do.
I'm hoping in training he has quickly discovered any players who simply cannot control a football, or those who cannot move into open spaces quickly, and anyone who cannot pass to another player in the same coloured bib and told them they won't be playing much. I'm a little scared we will play a five a side team with rush keeper.
-
We wouldn't be able fo field a team.
-
Us 4 Them 1
-
I doubt Man U will be playing their full team this evening.
Seems like they are. Maguire up front!
They got a fair run around at times tonight. Sociedad had a little dynamo in midfield who completely outplayed their big names. Only for they had donkeys like that Palace flop Sorloth up front, they surely would have been beaten. Rashford and Fred will probably come back in for Sunday.
Obviously we play anything like at Fulham or Newcastle and we will be humiliated again but if there is anything about us we should be getting a result.
-
We have had a tendency to raise our performances against the better teams, so here's hoping that coupled with the new manager bounce might see us win.
-
Good test first up for Unai. Hope we can see a difference with the pressing and Man United give slabhead the ball a lot!
-
Even after 40+ years I still can't stand the bastards
-
When did we last beat them at home?
In the league, August 1995.
I remember a great 3-2 win back in 1977?? With a fabulous Andy Gray winner and another 3-0 under SGT in1989, great games
-
When Coutinho levelled last season for 2-2 , the away end half emptied. From the very same wankers that like to sing part time supporters to every else.
-

I always thought it was just me...but i agree with this 100%
I cannot remember a game without some controvesy - and never in our favour
-
Can’t say I’ve watched them much this season but they seem to be getting a lot of 1-0 wins, which suggests Ten Hag has focused on tightening them up rather than going for wins. I’m looking forward to seeing what Unai will do. Will he also keep it tight or will he press them like Brentford did earlier in the season?
-
If we can start anywhere near like we did against Brentford, and the crowd are up for it early, with a shit referring decision to get our backs up, it could get really interesting.
I'm not expecting to get anything from it though, because we never fucking do. I've never seen us beat them at home.
-
The 77 game, was that the one Andy was fined at for giving them the V sign at the Witton End
He claimed to be showing them he had scored 2
-
Excellent thread-title, TV, following the new lineage in style.
-
What an utterly embarrassing fact that they’re unbeaten in 23 PL games at Villa Park.

Agreed.

Train strikes for tomorrow and Monday cancelled, which means services should work ok on Sunday.

It’s a dreadful, inexcusable record, even allowing for the fact we were cheated in 7 or 8 of those. Appalling.

The 1989 game i was 15, and that was when SGTs side was really starting to motor. That was a great xmas period, Arsenal were the champions and we beat them 2-1 at home, then mullered Man u boxing day with three 2nd half goals in front of the Holte, it was electric and McGrath and Platt were on fire. New Years Day 1990 a few days later my bro who was a chelsea fan, got me a ticket to the game at their place and we battered them
3-0, Tony Daley was unplayable. I remember on the drive home Forest drew 2-2 with the mighty Liverpool and it really felt like we could win the league, so exciting.
Romance isnt dead, we’ll do this lot…..twice

I have to disagree. Even if we beat them 5-0 on Sunday, win up there on Thursday, then do the double over them for the next 5 years they will still be the same bunch of arseholes they have always been who deserve the same level of vitriol you have so poetically described above.
-
I watched the first couple of minutes of highlights of the 0-3 NYD 1990 win at Stamford Bridge on Youtube and learned that our 1989 festive form was even better. We had won four in a row cos we did Forest in the Zenith Data Systems Trophy just before Crimbo!!

Was my 13th birthday the last time we beat them at home in the league.

I will be watching to see how he uses Coutino, his first few games showed he still has the talent, does he still have the desire?
-
I hadn’t clocked that Fernandes is banned for them. Always a nuisance to us and a cheating horrible little runt.
-
We had some belters against this shit-shower in the '70's - they had a very tidy side with Coppell, Hill and Pearson up front but we usually seemed to get something out of those games.

he's the biggest scum bag in the league
-
What an utterly embarrassing fact that they’re unbeaten in 23 PL games at Villa Park.
It’s a dreadful, inexcusable record, even allowing for the fact we were cheated in 7 or 8 of those. Appalling.
Was my 13th birthday the last time we beat them at home in the league.
I was 21 and on my summer hols after my first year at Uni, im now a year or so away from 50, it really is a fooking lifetime and needs to be fixed.
-
I can only see 3pts under Emery.
The man knows what to do and would have some extra information on Man Utd players used from time at Villareal.
Let's say 2-0.
Ings and Bailey.
-
Even in my ST holding years, this is the one match I always took every available excuse to not go to.
Everything about it, I fucking hate.

Shit isn't it. I just turned 40 a few months back, and besides a few wins at their theatre of tossers, there hasn't been much to cheer about when it comes to these fuckers.

The last time I saw us beat them at our place was the Didier Six game.

I remember our last league win at Villa Park against this lot like it was yesterday. First game of the season, sun shining, Sir Brian in charge, Savo and Yorkie leading the line, with a midfield of Tayls, Andy Townsend and Mark Draper in behind, backed up by God, Southgate, Ugo and Bozzie.
Smashed them 3-0 by halftime, only for them to claw one back in the second half, giving a first team debut at HT to a certain floppy haired youngster by the name of David Beckham, who then proceeded to score a worldy against Bozzie!
That evening, Hansen made the "You'll never win anything with kids" remark - They went on to win every trophy under the sun throughout their playing careers and then retire (!), we slowly spiralled into relegation and bounced back again, and 27 years later, we're still looking for that next elusive home win against them!
I was 19, pushing 20 the last time we won... I'm now a week away from being 47! This HAS to end tomorrow! #UTV

In my nightmare I see Shaw and Rashford combining their way past Cash and Rashford deliver into our box.

I think you could see the quality of the likes of Beckham even in that second half. Bozzie had to make a few saves if I recall correctly.
It was such a well balanced Villa team. Quality all over the pitch. Draper was a strange one, very good for us for a couple of seasons but his career petered out very quickly. Gregory wasn't a fan?

27 years of misery, finding every single way possible to fuck this one up.
Closest we got was the Houllier season where we should have tonked them by 6 but ended scrabbling a 2-2.
Come on Villa, let’s put this hoodoo to bed.

Debut for Jonathan Hogg, IIRC.

Hopefully we’ll be better set up and even at this stage will be able to see some sort of plan and tactics. Excited by Emery but 4 days is nothing so I just hope for the new manager bounce tomorrow.

Remember Lambert's first season? 2-0 up with about half an hour to go :'(
-
I think Drapes may have started to believe his own press. He was quickly touted for England in 95/96 and got a call-up to the squad under Hoddle.
Didn't come across as the brightest (see that oft-quoted comment of his about wanting to play for a top Italian side like Barcelona) but he had niggly injuries too which halted his momentum.
When he eventually did get his foreign move, it was on-loan to Rayo Vallecano, Madrid's 3rd team (although Getafe in the last couple of decades usurped them for a long time). Apparently he looked up the word "pass" in the English-Spanish dictionary to help him when training with his teammates. Imagine their confusion when he kept hollering at them for a driver's license...
-
Decades of finding new ways to fuck up or get screwed over against this lot have knocked any hope out of me.
I'd love a win, would take a draw but expect a loss.
Probably in the bottom three this time tomorrow.
-
I don't think we will lose tomorrow. Most confident I've been for ages going into this fixture. Weird eh!

Albrighton scored in front of the Holte end. Ashley Young scored a penalty I think?

Remember watching that in a pub in Beijing. Was stoned, pissed and very happy. Plenty of Villa in there.
Then those ****** scored twice and all these screbby little man Utd fans were celebrating as if they'd won the world cup. Wankers.

I was in the Holte end. Their fans spilled out onto the pitch when Vidic scored.

It had to be that cheating fuck, Vidic also, didn't it. Carling Cup final wounds were still raw at that point, too.

The most annoying thing about them, is that many of their showreel moments have come at Villa Park and at our expense. So many 'thrilling comebacks'. I am weirdly confident today, but that might not last as the game approaches!

Even that Giggs goal against Arsenal was at Villa Park. Another thing to hate about them.
Why couldn't it have been somewhere shit like Anfield or Molineux?

After 27 years of waiting, has the moment finally arrived?
The withered corrupt twat who hasn’t forgiven us for denying them the domestic treble and the nauseating wank-fest that would have inevitably followed - is it too much to ask to play well and not be failed by a bent ref? Put a spotlight by media commentators and influencers on the one sided nature of this particular match and watch them squirm.
Is there any thing more unholy, abominable and disturbing than the existence of ‘the brummie reds’.
If Senor Emery masterminds a win - he could drive his car through my living room and I’d make him a cup of tea.
I can remember at least 4 occasions we’ve been winning and they’ve scrambled a draw or won. I’ve seen us beat every team at home but these and it’s beyond a joke.
I honestly can’t call this match due to the variables - but going to try - a Villa win !!!
-
Gone for the win. Courtesy of new manager bounce.
-
Obviously I don’t for a moment think we’ll win, but at least with Fernandes out they’ll probably have to do us fair and square.
-
Most important question of the day. Who is the ref and the VAR muppet today?

Well, he's a Manc...

They haven't beaten us without help since the game they relegated us in 2016. I don't expect anything to change over the next 7 days.
But you live in hope.

We have had so much heartache against these. We actually drew a few home games with them after the 3-1 win in 1995-96. The home games in 1996-97 and 1998-99 were both draws and we beat them in the league cup in 99-00. We also drew the home game in 01-02. It was the damned FA cup game that season when we blew a 2-0 lead that really started the misery. And we went on to blow a few good chances to beat them after that.
I do feel, however, the tide is turning here. We did well in the home-game last January. We really fizzed when Coutinho came on and fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.
If we can fizz today with a new manager bounce...well, you just never know. Oddly, if it was a night game I would be a little more confident than I am.
-
We can only hope for the best.
More than likely we'll all trudge away from the ground in disappointment and frustration yet again, in the damp weather and under the darkening skies courtesy of Greenwich Mean Time...
-
If we win today and Unai Emery doesn't do anythig else significant in his tenure, he will still have a place in our history. Sadly don't think it will happen today going 2-1 away win.
-
Not sure what to make of today - I do think we will lose because Ten Hag has really got them going (impressed by the job he’s done there since being appointed) and Unai has had 4 days with the players only.
As long as we see more fight, more energy, and more organisation, I’ll be ok with that - the table doesn’t mean a lot yet, and even if we lose we will still likely only be 6 points off 10th.
There is a long way to go and we need to be patient. Let’s get behind Unai and the boys and not expect miracles
-
I'm excited for the new era!
I really hope we give Man Utd a good hiding

Todays ref Anthony Taylor is from Wythenshawe and declares himself to be an Altrincham fan. (Good cup pedigree they have).
Easily the best ref would be Andre Marinner, unfortunately the honest fool declared himself a Villa fan so we can never get him.

He still comes down when he gets chance. The daft sod could've been good for 10 points a season had he kept his trap shut
