Title: Fulham v Aston Villa Pre Match
Post by: olaftab on October 18, 2022, 12:09:17 AM
Thursday 20 October Kick off 7.30 pm.
Craven Cottage, London

I will be going along to this game so do come over and say hello. I will be dressed mostly in black and reading  a copy of Sunday Times from two weeks ago on the 14.15 from Moor Street.
We are heading into desperate territory now with our Steven😥

We've no chance against this lot. They'll be far too skilful and organised :D

Gerrard would soon turn him back into the 20/21 Mitrovic.

I fancy us to do well only seven goals this season someone’s going to cop it 4 1 couple for Ramsey.

If he’s still here we’ll lose.

Fulham to get an early goal. Mitrovic if fit will show our strikers up.

Sigh.

Under our current manager I can't see where the next win is coming from, so it's a Villa loss again for me.

------Ings/Watkins

Clear heads, full heart, can't lose (1-1)

I think we will lose - the only time we have won at Craven Cottage in my recent memory was during lockdown when none of us could go.  I've never seen us win there and I'm going with my son.

Even though we are rubbish and I think we will lose, I'm still looking forward to it, as it will be my first away game with him since the play-off final!

From this Fulham fan nice to see for the third time in 5 years, it’s a bit better for us time, by this in our last 2 attempts we were already doomed, and I was already regretting getting a season ticket, I thought we would do better this time around, getting promoted automatically rather than go through the playoffs, it helps having a manager who appreciates how to use Mitrovic, the only downside is we’re conceding too many goals, on reading through your post you don’t seem too impressed with Stevie G, I’m no sure about former top class players getting jobs at decent size clubs, I’m looking at Parker and Lampard here too, at least Cooper and Potter worked there way up, maybe it’s an ego thing, anyway good luck for the rest of season after Thursday of course.

0-3, new manager bounce in full effect.

Or 1-1, lots of missed chances and lots of talk about needing to be more clinical in the final third.

The big test here is replicating what we saw in the first half on Sunday, I'm in the camp that says it happened despite the Manager and not because of him so will say it's unlikely but you never know, could we hit some form? was Sunday not actually a false dawn in terms of performance or are we just treading water?

I'll stick with an uninspired, lackadaisical and all too familiar display and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

1-2

The behind the goal stand next to away fans, which used to be the neutral end (where we are sitting) is all sold out though, so hopefully plenty of other Villa fans in there like normal.

the bottom section of stand was sold to out season tickets at the start of the season, they’ve been opening the top sections bit by bit since then they was 4 upper sections open for the Bournemouth game, though not completely full, I’m pretty sure by the end of the season it will fully open, about time too, it taken 4 years, it does seem strange that Forest have no shirt sponsorship, but it’s not such a bad thing, it does seem like there doing a Fulham lol

Hoping for, but without full confidence, that we get a similar attacking performance to the first half on Sunday. Time has to be running out for Gerrard and a loss here might be the final straw. We could conceivably be in the bottom 3 by the time we play.

I'm sure it's perfectly normal and just one component of our training, but seeing them playing around those metal things brings to mind the Baldrick line in Blackadder Goes Forth (to paraphrase) "these sacks should be easy to outwit in a battle situation".

I think because Amazon have the rights to this round of midweek games and like to spread them out over three days. Then the Brentford game is on Sunday so we have the required minimum gap between games. Of course, Brentford play a day earlier than us so will have an advantage. Not that they need it.

Very interesting game of football awaits! you could have a situation where the players might know he's going therefore down tools, but on the other hand we've created quite a few chances/half chances in the last five fixtures, we could be due to give someone a good hiding, one of those games where everything they touch just rockets in.

They get an early goal and we spend the rest of the match having quite a lot of the ball without ever really looking like scoring. They then get a late goal to seal it

This is exactly how I see it going. Maybe we’ll even gift them a goal. Maybe a goalkeeping mistake or a penalty. Something to make our own job harder. Typical.

Why would it suddenly be different to the vast majority of the previous 35 games? A disjointed away performance, probably speckled with the odd missed chance or two that Gerrard clings to and another away defeat.

If we concede another gifted, sloppy goal then the tv just might end up down the garden.

We just cannot keep giving teams of any quality, just like at Forest, a goal or 2 head start...

Martinez (albeit with a bollocking from Sunday)

Cash              Konsa             Mings             Young

                     Luiz          Dendonker

Bailey                  Buendia                         Ramsay

very tight 1-0 to us

If Archer is fit than I'm omitting Watkins and Ings entirely from the starting lineup tomorrow. I'm done with the work rate argument for Ollie, he's a nice guy but can't control a ball and he can't put it in the net at the moment. I'd rather have JJ out on the left of the forward line if that is where we plan on platooning our £33m striker due to his limitations.

No matter what shirt I buy, whoever I get on the back seem to fall flat on their face the following season. I went with Watkins last year.

The table makes very grim reading tonight. Thank McGrath Wolves are marginally more shit than us.

Surely when we lose this he's toast.

Bur for how long?  The worry is that some decent teams are down there like Wolves, Leeds and Leicester who are more than capable of stringing a few wins together.  We need to show we are one of them.

I'd prefer to see him used effectively from the bench first but as Watkins and Ings are less than effective at the moment it might be in at the deep end.

Dean Smith's Villa had a solid win of 3-0 at the cottage and we're far from that side these days.
Generally had a poor record there last 10 years and I feel SG wont be able to juster the required elements to deal with Fulham .
2-0 defeat.

Easy win tonight 3-1 and we will hear "Gerrards Claret and Blue Army" being sung

Hopefully Tyrone will mark Mitrovic out of the game.

The problem tonight if we lose then Gerrard will have to walk in front of the away support as he makes his way back to the tunnel

If we can take the first half from the Chelsea game into tonight, then hopefully Fulham's keeper won't be as good as the Chelsea one was (who had another good game last night). 1-1 though. Ramsey for us. Phillipe Senderos for them.

It was pretty a famous one too. As soon as I read Eamonn's post I knew he was referring to the affair with Mary Brown.

They married and remained together for 43 years till his death in 2020, so it must have been love (but it's over now).

Frem the BBC match preview

Nine points from 10 games represents Villa's worst start to a Premier League season other than in 2015-2016, when they were relegated.

They have won just two of their past 18 games against current Premier League opposition.

Aston Villa have won only four times in 21 league fixtures, losing 11.

Villa have not had a winless away run of more than five games from the beginning of a Premier League season since 2011-12.

Their only win in the past 16 league games against London opposition was 2-1 at Crystal Palace last November.

Only Wolves have scored fewer Premier League goals than the seven by Villa this season.

Aston Villa's last nine league goals were scored by nine different players.

Philippe Coutinho has scored one goal and provided no assists in his past 21 league appearances.

Since the start of 2019-20, no outfield player has made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than the five by Villa's Tyrone Mings.

Steven Gerrard lost only one of his 16 appearances as a Liverpool player against Fulham in all competitions, winning 12.

Hard to believe that I'm nervous about a match against Fulham in October, but I guess given our current state its quasi-justified. Not much excitement going on at the moment - no goals, no points, no anything. Oh, and Mitrovic has as matched our goal tally for the year by himself. They've got three players with 2+ goals, we don't have one.

Leicester have two winnable games next against Leeds and Wolves.. things could go from bad to worse by Sunday afternoon. Please, for the love of all things holy, get three points today.

Jesus fcukin Christ…if any of these so called pundits defending SG needed any explanation as to why he should lose his job then just read off that charge sheet. In all his interviews he sounds and comes across as a good manager (apart from the ones where he calls players out and throws them under the bus) but the evidence in terms of results and performances is that he clearly isn’t.
