Title: The Holy Trinity
Post by: Hookeysmith on August 30, 2022, 10:54:38 PM
Not sure if people watch this guy on You tube but his latest analysis and assessment I feel is spot on

I watch his stuff, too, he puts a lot of effort into it and it clearly means a lot to him. Speaks a lot of sense. Likes his whisky too.

That and Villa On Tour are the only Villa YT channels I watch, plus I listen to The Villa Podcast.

There are so many Villa podcasts around these days. In fact, the sheer quantity of Villa content full stop is fucking enormous.

I watch him too. But, a bit like MOTD, only when we win.

He's also quite good when we lose. Made me laugh with some of his bits, referencing Step Brothers, etc (losing to Bournemouth was like Will Ferrell having to lick white dogsh*t as the image that most sums up the game).

I restrict my misery to here when we lose. You lucky people.

Agree.
I tend to watch win, lose or draw as its an interesting show.
Hope he gets his wish to come over to VP one day.

In his West Ham post match he eviscerates the club from top to bottom.

He's great. It is the only Villa podcast I now listen to.

He made a good point that a CEO who costs his business a big wedge through poor decision making should get the heave ho. Not that it always happens mind.

I've watched him a few times, he's very good. One thing he said stood out for me, the fact that already Gerrard has put us in survival mode. Even if that goal from the corner had been allowed I still don't think we would have won, Gerrard would have played the game out trying to protect the lead and we all know the form our defence is in.
If I were the owners I would employ him as an advisor as everything he said made sense.

This guy is awesome  8)

Before the season started...

7:50 - 16 clean sheets this season.
9:10 - 9th place finish, insinuating we are a sleeping giant because we did our business early.

3 weeks later...

11:33 - "The squad has been so badly constructed, it's like Frankenstein's monster."

He presents it well and he's listenable, but as Goldie points out, he's not really consistent in what he says. I guess we can all be guilty of that with hindsight, but I find him a bit "Captain Obvious" is just parroting what people are saying on social media.

I like Max Stokes.  He’s usually quite insightful.  And he reminds me of when all I had in the world was drink and following the Villa around the country.  And If you look back at his videos you can see how he has filled out with the effect booze and crap food has had.  Happened to a lot of us!  Max if you’re reading I’m only kidding.

I think, unfortunately, he has a point when he says we haven't recovered from Grealish leaving yet. A made with hindsight point maybe, as mentioned earlier, but a valid one. The point about needing some kind of director of football also, instead of chopping and changing styles when we get a new manager in, is one well made. Again nothing revolutionary which makes it frustrating that it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone in the Villa hierarchy.

I agree with you, but the practical implementation of an all-seeing DoF is more difficult than its concept: will top managers be prepared to cowtow to a DoF? How many managers out there would fit the necessary profile as established by the DoF?.

I like him.  Shame he doesn't release the shows as audio podcasts but I guess he's trying to build his YT channel.

Just watched - made some excellent points about the appointment of any future manager.

Like the Villa Podcast (very funny, but not for Children's ears) and the Paul McGrath podcast

I enjoy this and the Paul McGrath podcast - two very different approaches to discussing all things Villa, but both very engaging and thought-provoking.  They're both firmly becoming part of my weekly Villa routine.

'The Villa Podcast' is by far my favourite audio podcast out there.  If you haven't listened to it give it a try.

Love this guy. Professional but with a dose of humour and it's a nice change not to hear a British/Irish accent wang-on about the Villa.

His YouTube shows are brilliant and sadly absolutely spot on. Best analysis I've heard of Villa's troubles I've heard in a long time.

Peter Schaad
Villa fan since 1980.
Commentated on Vancouver Whitecaps games for 20 years before being given the chop in 2021 by broadcaster TSN as part of an aggressive cost cutting programme.

Discovered his show last season, now an essential part of my post match ritual.
Great analysis, and picks out some gems to critique.
Can’t believe he has never actually been to VP.
Love the whisky/whiskey recommendations.
I find myself looking at his Villa “parlour” like I’m in an interesting old pub.
Up the mighty Villa!

Another great analysis from him.
Interesting point about possibly the owners easing off on investment as they have seen through Gerrard

I really don't like 'gotcha' type comments like this (if that is what you are doing here). I think it is far, far worse for an individual to stick to their guns on something even when the evidence in front of them shows that they were wrong first time out. most of us were optimistic before the season started and have re-evaluated based on the first five games.

His vids are well worth watching.

Interesting listen about why the owners are not throwing money at new transfers currently - he may have hit the nail on the head?

I thought the stuff he showed about Cash and Konsa in particular for the Arsenal goals was bang on the money.

All too loose and casual. Cash looking particularly poor.

The players clearly do not know what they are supposed to be trying to do, and that's never good.

You mean the bit about the looming energy crisis and end of days? I like Pete a lot but that was drivel.

I agree except the last bit. I don't think it can be blamed on the system (which I agree is not working). It's basic defending that, surely, you'd expect someone playing in the Premier League should not have to be instructed about pre-game.
