Dave Collett on another legend.

His debut against Bradford alongside Stuart was brilliant.
-
Great read that.
-
Thanks - excellent article
We seem to have had a disproportionate number of talented players that have been forced to retire through injury:-
Keith Leonard
Brian Little
Gary Shaw
Luc Nilis
Martin Laursen
John Robson
I’m sure others can add to the list
Is it my imagination or do we seem a bit jinxed?
-
Wesley for one, well not retired but unable to play for us again.
-
Loved Andy Gray in a Villa shirt the first time around - absolutely fearless in the penalty area - remember the goal against United, the Graydon cross and Gray at the far post rising to head the ball in the net - total football poetry.
The celebration by Gray, arms aloft in front of an adoring Holte End - wonderful memories as a 11 year old

100% this Sid - I assume you are referring to the 3-2 win at Villa Park?

Mick Wright retired in 1973 aged 26 having played 318 games for us, made his debut aged 16.

Great read, thank you! So why did Saunders feed that story to the press about Gray? Was it just more of his psychological motivation techniques? The kind he used a lot on Morley? It says a lot for Saunders that, If I'm reading correctly, he built the European Cup winning side off the back of Gray's sale.

I haven't had chance to read through the whole article but when I did a find on this page, I didn't see Asda mentioned.

Surely the 'over the top laughter' emoji would be more applicable?

Re the final paragraph.
Replace Andy who? with Jack who ?, roll the clock forward and........

All down to Ian Bowyer at Forest.
Gary went down injured after Bowyer tackled him
Bowyer, the twat, pulled him back up and fked Gary’s knee

What a fantastic read! Andy was one of earliest Villa idols and I was gutted when he left. There’s an often repeated family story about his departure “I loved him like a brother” I told my mom, she wasn’t impressed.
I was thrilled when re rejoined us in the mid-1980’s, it just wasn’t the same though, we were in decline and sadly so was Andy.

Absolutely (although I was a little older ...)
-
Really good as ever from Dave Collett. Andy Gray scored a hat trick in the first live game I ever saw and I thought he would probably do that every game.
-
If anyone was wondering, well probably just me, Holy City Zoo is Subway City now, according to Google.
-
Not the fastest, nor the most skilful, but the most exciting striker at the time.
"He's here, he's there, he's every f***ing where, Andy Gray!"
-
I remember having a big poster on my wall as a kid with Andrew Mullen Gray. He was my hero and I was absolutely gutted when he went to Wolves. As I got older I realised Brian Little was the main man.
-
Great read. I was on the holte end for the Ipswich game. A great season and arguably the best side in my lifetime. Injuries putting paid to winning the title. Andy was a great player and a big personality but Ron knew best as was proved in 81/82
-
Brilliant read Mr Collett. I was devastated when Andy Gray left Villa, but it's funny how these things turn out.
-
Hey hey Andy Gray how many goals will you score today?
Unplayable in his prime, fearless in the penalty area.
-
Absoultely loved him and was devastated when he left. Left to join fucking Dingles. :'( :-[
