Title: Leicester v Aston Villa: PMT
Post by: Ads on April 19, 2022, 10:09:20 PM
Chance to do some more midtable things and decide to win a game again after a poor run

Marv back for us, Ndidi, Vardy and Bertrand out for them.

Leicester are another in a long line of Villa hating odd balls, although they've at least done something in the past years other than finish above us, which is usually the only requirement in the Midlands to be delighted with your club.

Martinez

Cash
Chambers
Mings
Young

Marv
McGinn
Ramsey

Coutinho

Watkins
Ings

Expect Digne is out, which is a shame. Konsa was beyond poor against Spurs and I think the presence of Nkamba will help McGinn more than Luiz, so he misses out.

Let's just win.

3 or 4 nil to them, unfortunately.

Every goal scored by someone with an irritating face, celebrated one armed salute style, by a manager with an irritating face and character.

I hate Leicester.

Think we’ll win this - dial seems to have been turned up since last match in terms of negativity and think that we’ll see a response.

Would love us to get another 3 or 4 wins this season and finish strongly to shut up moaning gits like me.

They will have played two league games in the time since we last played but i bet we look the
more knackered earlier. Chambers needs to start over Konsa and maybe
Nakamba will get a game. We need to be in it in midfield because Maddison and Barnes are very good players. 2-1 them.

Two things to consider here. Firstly, we have had almost a 2 week break which, for any other team seems to be a bonus but, we always look knackered by half time. The other thing is that they’ve got 2 or 3 players out. For us, in the last few games, the other teams have had important players out but, we never seem to take advantage. I see also that we are slight favourites to win with the bookies. All those things combined, we know what the outcome is likely to be as only Aston Villa can.

I watched a bit of their game last night and what struck me is how they over pass when in decent positions resulting in very few real chances.  They were better than Everton but then most are these days.  If we go there to win we will if we go about our business correctly.

We weren't exactly hanging-on but they had the better chances after we took the lead. I remember a worldie save from Martínez, tipped over the bar. It was a hard-fought win. No twatting involved (except Kasper Schmeichael and his fine acting to deny JJ his maiden VP goal).

Traore and Sanson not available AGAIN - what a surprise!!

Since we signed them they've been injured more than they've been fit - either they've got inherent underlying physical problems, or there's something wrong with our medical set up. I wonder what the ratio is of games that we've played vs games that they've played/been on the bench since they both signed - less than 50% I'd wager.

Anyway, looking at things in the cold light of day; it can't help Gerrard if they're part of the set up from Monday-Thursday only for them to succumb to injures late in the week - makes things difficult if he setsc the team up in training with them only orr them to drop out.

Once or twice might be acceptable, but it's every other game.

Think it's time to move them both out - they've been a waste of money since we signed them, and use the dosh to get someone in who can do a job for us and has a better fitness record.

I think we'd get close to what we paid for Traore and Sanson, neither were over-priced and they're still at good ages.

               Martinez
Cash   Konsa    Mings     Young
                Nakamba
      McGinn          Ramsey
             Coutinho
     Watkins         Ings

Is my guess. Luiz on after 60 minutes for a tiring Nakamba. Buendia on for a tiring Coutinho and Bailey on for Ings.

Then a defender will get injured. Young will fuck up a pass, Mings will be left a bit short but take out ASM and the resultant free-kick will rebound off Cash, Konsa will slip over trying to get the rebound and someone in a stripey shirt will stick it in the roof of the net.

I can never be comfortable with a game against Leicester after the 4-4 all those years ago with Sir Brian in charge.
It was one of the only times I was sat in the Trinity, (Holte before it was all seater, North mostly thereafter), and when they scored their first I remarked to all within earshot "This is going to end up a draw isn't it".

Bet Traore wouldn’t be injured very much if he was on an only get paid when you play basis. Sanson I can understand a little bit as, even when he’s fit, it’s rare he gets picked.
I see the bookies have us down as slight favourites v Leicester and, the Liverpudlian know all on the BBC website also has us down to win so, win for Leicester is almost certainly on the cards, particularly as we should be fresh after our lay off but, will probably be knackered after 45 minutes. I doubt we would be relegated, even with the 36 points we have but, would be nice to get another 3 or 4 points just to make sure.

Opta stats...

Leicester lost this exact fixture 1-0 last season, with Ross Barkley netting the winner in the 90th minute. They've not lost consecutive home league games to Aston Villa since April 1981.

Aston Villa are looking to complete the league double over Leicester for the first time since 2003-04, following their 2-1 win at Villa Park in the reverse fixture.

Of all teams Leicester have faced at least 20 times in the Premier League, only against Leeds (45%) do they have a higher win rate than they do against Aston Villa (40% - 10 wins from 25 games).

Aston Villa have played more Premier League games on St George's Day without ever winning than any other side in the competition (4 - D2 L2).

Aston Villa have lost their last four Premier League matches, last losing five in a row in October and November under Dean Smith. If they lose this match, it would be the second time this season a side has lost five in a row under two different managers, along with Norwich (Dean Smith and Daniel Farke).

Plastic Bertrand, Samson with short hair, and a Hause with dodgy foundations, when we haven’t played a game for 2 weeks!
Unbelievable isn’t it?

Not really. It's predictable Villa stuff.

What's unbelievable is Bailey didn't injure himself climbing the stairs of his private jet over Easter. Ain't nothing worse than a instagram stunting footballer who's absolutely fucking garbage on the pitch.

Another waste of space who will be sold for a loss.

Our players don’t seem to take conditioning seriously. Work properly on conditioning and you don’t pick up such regular niggles. It’s not just one player it’s quite a few of them.

We’re going to win this - we will have gone back to basics a bit and marv will help with that.  That combined with the league position and the break will have refocused everyone’s minds.

Ramsey and Watkins for us

So can I be the first and say - I never doubted SG for second

Play like we did against Spuds in the first half (putting our chances away this time) and we should be fine. Hopefully.

2-2. Entertaining draw between two mid table teams, one of which has an eye on an upcoming European game, the other hopefully well rested.

The city centre itself is pretty nice. It's the crud around the inner ring road which makes you want to pull your own teeth out...

There are one or two slightly nicer areas, or to be more precise less horrible, but on the whole the city centre is a shithole.

There's some decent pubs if you know where to look. I managed to bag a ticket so I'm in the marquis Wellington not far from the station.
