It can't be too hard to prepare against our midfield trio. Just get in their faces, even Arsenal can do that these days.

And Saka against old man Young? Ugh...this could be a long afternoon.

Happy enough with that team and glad Martinelli missing.

No Hause on the bench though. Covid or arrested by the fashion police for that white outfit at Cheltenham?

Ha! Hause was looking dapper wasn't he! Not. Jesus Christ. Fair play to him though for being brave enough to attempt pulling it off!

Would have liked to have seen our midfield tweaked a little bit. It's our weakest area.

We will need to bewitch the Tarquins with skill because we don't really have a massive hard-man midfield to engage in fucking the fuckers, do we?

We've barely had a kick. Probably one of the best 30 minutes of football I've seen another team play against us this year - totally shut down any forward options with their press.

I don't even think we've been notably poor, nor has anyone has dropped any clangers - we've just been played off the park. Worth trying something drastic at half time to try and turn it around to be honest.

Don't see what else Mings can do there, he won the ball cleanly with both feet on the ground, he tripped over his trailing leg. The only other option for Mings is to not bother and let Saka get the ball? This ref's a knob anyway.

I think I'd be tempted to put play Ings with Watkins and try and give their CBs a bit more to think about. Maybe take one of the midfielders off, sit them both deep, and just try and work the wide areas more in a 4-2-2-2

We need to change shape significantly as they have been excellent and had full control.

Fucking disgraceful first half.
Pedestrian, pace less , passive and brainless.
We are being completely boxed in when we play out from the back and will not mix it up and take the pressure off.

I know consistency is the mark of a good team, and that’s where we are well short, but that half was abysmal.

Fucking disgraceful first half.
Pedestrian, pace less , passive and brainless.
We are being completely boxed in when we play out from the back and will not mix it up and take the pressure off.

I know consistency is the mark of a good team, and that’s where we are well short, but that half was abysmal.

Precisely!

As bad as we've been, Arsenal have done a job on us to be fair.

Swap the names Smith and Grealish, and replace them with Gerrard and Coutinho.  Its still a depressing over-reliance on one player

Pretty awful to be honest.

The problem is our tatics dont seem to based on who we play, and were not good enough to play the way we want to play

Our midfield just doesn't work unless there all playing amazing.  We cant move the ball from back to front at all - I would be tempted to put on bailey for one of the midfielders and go for a 4231, and try and move the ball quicker and wider - might give courtinho a bit more space too

With WE and NS in the ground, surely they must be thinking - how did we spend so much money and have such an unbalanced team.  We have at least 4 wingers, but not play wingers.

5 midfielders most of who are pretty much identical, and the most important position in the club is fullback, of which we have 1 each.

I think this 2 "10"s is stupid the whole point of a "10" is to find the space

Gerrard is rubbish regarding substitutions. Exactly the same as Dean was.

What's wrong with these fucking managers and their ineptitude

Luiz is possibly the worst player I've ever seen...ok that's not true, but he isn't very good at football.

Luiz is by a long way the best of our midfield three today. Free kick aside, he has been good second half.

I wouldn't say them being 1-0 up, or our failure to break them down, has been a particular failing of the deepest lying midfielder.

In terms of what each of the three is meant to do, I think both McGinn and Ramsey before he went off had been making a lot of bad decisions and being too risk averse in terms of their forward passing.

Yes, McGinn and Ramsey far worse performer today than Luiz.

McManaman's a wanker, but he did make one good point this half in that McGinn's position when we're in possession is far too deep - especially when we have Luiz picking up the ball from the CBs. He needs to be making runs and trying to create space for Coutinho - and he's putting too much of the game in front of him.

We’re losing this in midfield still, I’m genuinely concerned that we persist with Luiz and McGinn and JJ at the moment. All three had stinkers today, we had no presence there at all. Why we didn’t play with the entire 2 up front with Coutinho behind, I have no idea? It didn’t work today and hasn’t when done before.
