Surely that bodes well for the game? Because the opposite will now happen. I’m always rifling the ball long and straight at the driving range before a round and then promptly stick it in the bush off the first tee.

Hopefully they'll be leggy as the game wears on. Only a Concorde flight back from Seville with deep-skin massages for the duration would possibly keep them fit and fighting in the final 20 minutes today.

That's the issue of naming unchanged side when you've played away less than 72 hours before.
Title: Re: West Ham vs Aston Villa match thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on March 13, 2022, 02:34:27 PM
West Ham are a well drilled side and have been playing this style with a high level of confidence for a while. We need to find a way to get the ball down and get ourselves positioned correctly. They are really stretching us and we are losing our defensive shape.

Very leggy, front two have been dreadful. If Chambers is ok to continue then I think we need to switch it up tactically and get Sanson on in midfield.

I’m fine with that as long as it’s consistent. When we watch how often Man City foul and get away with it, niggly little fouls to break up opponents flow, that’s what needs to be stamped out.

It turns out a team's league position is directly related to their ability to be cynical fouling bastards every time they lose possession.

Hope Digne isn't out for any length of time, but if it's a hamstring it could be a while.

Ash is OK as a one off here and there, or coming off the bench. But wouldn't be confident with him starting our remaining games.

I'd almost be thinking about Mings @ left back and Chambers/Konsa at centre half, should it come to it.

They aren’t exactly breaking us down in the final third, as they are mainly relying on getting the ball outside and playing in a cross. We can get something out of this but the referee has to snuff out the bully ball before someone gets injured. This is dinosaur stuff from West Ham.

Think he just went and sat down behind the bench so probably looking at back after next international break.

Young done fine so far but he would struggle if they moved Antonio to the right.

Pretty flat game so far imo, can tell both teams played on Thursday tbh.

We have two subs left so interested what Gerrard does, does feel like Buendia could work today as another pressing option dropping deep in midfield and keep Coutinho in that pocket off the strikers.

Not sure on the other sub. I feel we'll probably be o.k with 0-0.

Might be a good game for Sanson too, would add some more coverage in our midfield. Maybe for one of Ings or Watkins?

This ref is dire....they're getting away with so many late challenges on our front two.

He's been the ref in one of our games earlier this season. Can't remember which, but I do remember he was rubbish then too

Commentator said it is his first EPL game, first ref outside of Britain and Ireland (Aussie). Ref has been fine. It's a physical battle as expected v West Ham.

Buendia/Bailey/Traore for one of the forwards, and Sanson for Luiz, for me.

Next season. We’ll get this bunch next season.

We did ok until they started to push in the second half. Then we were just too sluggish with the changes and our midfield got overridden.

This is the level we need to challenge against if we want Europe.

Dreadful goal to give away....Bailey, McGinn and Martinez all terrible for it. I know taking off Luiz is the easy option but McGinn is rancid as a holding midfielder.

We deserve nothing today anyway. Gerrard should have freshened up the starting line up. Left it far too long to take off Ings.

Yeah we struggle with this, there just bigger and quicker than us.  In the second half they have just overran us in midfield.

Would like us to show more width, but the fact of the matter is there a better side than us, and have been since we came up.

He isn’t blowing fouls.. he’s forced to stop play due to the new rules.

Chambers twice, Coutinho from rice, Luiz twice, cash once. ONE foul.

Some of them aren't fouls. When players were down he stopped the play like a ref is supposed to. The amount of stoppages is just the ref doing his job.

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic? You’ve got to be kidding, right?

Dawson literally put an elbow into chambers teeth coming in for a corner. Rice threw an elbow into Coutinho’s ear from behind. First play of the game Antonio turned around, elbowed Luiz in the mouth and took off with the ball.

Ah I fucking love Buendia.

Me too. I felt sure he would come on for Ings and win us the game once we got to the 70 minute mark.  Couldn’t believe that Bailey was sent on. Buendia offers graft and guile that helps all the departments of the team. Sadly I knew what would happen when Bailey came on. Watford repeated.
