Title: Brighton and Hove Albion v Aston Villa Saturday 3pm - Pre Match Thread.
Post by: kippaxvilla2 on February 23, 2022, 12:36:21 PM
No idea how this will end up but I am guessing it will be very low scoring and quite boring.

1-1 - Coutinho for us.  John Gregory for them.

They can pass the ball for a start.

2-0 to them. No changes by Gerrard.

I want to be optimistic I do but it's very hard to see a victory given we appear to be regressing.

It will be astounding if there aren't changes, and not the easy ones either, bringing back Konsa or swopping the strikers again. We need a shake up, we need a refresh and more than that we need a manager who won't go and hide on the bench when we're up against it.

3-0

I suspect Teachers Pet McGinn will start yet again

Watkins who was suitably told off for Newcastle and sat on bench for 70mins, came on and did fuck all - to return

All options will be considered but Luis will keep his place and be anonymous as usual

Possibly Young in for Cash - as Young did so well when he came on against Watford

And the obvious one of Konsa back in for Chambers which is hardly earth shattering

Mr Gerrard - you talk a good battle - now its time to deliver - lose this and i fear you aint the bloke to take this project forward

2-1 (Mings with ours right at the end)

I would actually support him if we lost if it was a change in style / tactics but most importantly personnel

I could SG going with this sort of line up likes of Young Chambers and Ings from the start for experience when we need a result. Konsa brought in . Cash rested.
0-0 or maybe a sneaky 0-1

Martinez
Chambers
Konsa
Mings
Digne

McGinn
Young
Ramsey

Buendia
Ings
Coutinho

Thanks for the pre match.
I can see Graham Potter coming to coach at Villa one day.
I think would be great fit as he's done all he can at Brighton and he's a Villa man so perhaps whenever Gerrard moves he would be on our list as to get in.

Thought we'd beat Watford last weekend and come into this one feeling reasonably good about ourselves.

Brighton don't do enough with the possession they have but if we keep giving the ball away with the regularity that we have been doing recently then it's going to be a long 90 minutes.

Hope for a 1-1, fear a 0-1 or a 0-2.

For those of you who are coming by train and haven't got round to checking for any service disruption do note the closures down here this week - https://www.southernrailway.com/travel-information/plan-your-journey/service-updates?uq=637812285488020000#INC6FAA51E7524D4C8EBD6A77185D8B1464. Still haven't got over the Nov 2016 nightmare trying to get away from the Amex.

It will be a lovely Monday morning in the office if we win.

If we lose this, then the record for the last 10 games will be worse than the 10 games Dean had this season.

Our form is really bad, and we really need to not lose that - cos to be 9 points behind brighton would be disapointing

Brighton might let us play a bit but they have completely outplayed us everywhere but the scoreboard on our last two visits there.

Konsa back anyway. Might aswell give Ings another go up front. After that, anyone's guess to the midfield set up. At least one of McGinn/Luiz has to be dropped, ideally both but definitely McGinn for his own good. Sanson for one, who knows for the other. Get Ramsey further forward so he can help Ings with the press.

------------Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne
-----------?/Sanson
Coutinho, Ramsey, Buendia
--------------Ings

Can't see how we'd win so best case a goalless draw. I expect us to lose though - no trust in this squad, really, and whereas I will hold fire on Gerrard and his management team for the season, this severe dip has shaken my confidence in them too.

It would be great if there was a reaction and we played Brighton off the park and won. But i think in reality given the last few weeks, we just need to scrape a win ideally or more likely a draw to steady the ship, help us reset and calm everyone down.
At best i see an Everton away type 1-0 victory, but id probably take a 1-1 if it was offered now.

I think Konsa will come back in for Chambers. I think Luiz will come out, but i wouldn’t be surprised if he put McGinn in the DCM role. Would think the obvious replacement would be Sanson, but depends how out of favour he is.

Martinez

I can see something like the below.

                            Martinez

Cash. Chambers. Konsa.   Mings.  Digne

                   Sanson         Ramsey

        Buendia.          Ings.        Coutinho

Full backs get forward, leave 3 at the back with Mings and Chambers able to step out with the ball. It won't happen of course as there's just no way that McGinn and Luiz will be left out.

I fear a one goal win to Brighton with a controversial Inexperienced ref/VAR decisio  against us

Penalty appeal turned down, after Lewis Dunk uses chainsaw to hack off Watkins leg as he was about to shoot.

VAR spend 3 hrs rolling the footage backwards and forwards to show Dunks' toe brushing the ball just before  the chainsaw meets Watkins leg, and the after the game it's revealed that there was an ammendment to rule 3,267 part 74 whereby chainsaws are allowed if they're not held in an unnatural position.

A win would be an achivement, given our form in our last games. They are not xactley great themselves and do alot of draws, still we are away and can esaliy loose if we dont come together. We should find the determination and defensively stability from Gerrards first games and sneak a win, its easier too see a 1-0 to them though.  Situation in Ukraine puts a demper on footballinterest for me right now. Opta stats

Brighton are winless in their last five home league games against Aston Villa. However, the last four of these meetings has ended level, including both such games in the Premier League.

Following a 2-0 win in November in Steven Gerrard's first game in charge, Aston Villa are looking to complete the league double over Brighton for the first time since 1981-82.

Brighton have scored just 10 goals in their 12 Premier League home games this season, with four of the Seagulls' six league defeats this term coming at the Amex Stadium.

After winning four of their first six Premier League games under Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa have won just one of their subsequent seven (D2 L4) - a 1-0 away win against Everton.

Neal Maupay's has scored 26 goals in the Premier League for Brighton - one more strike will see him become the Seagulls' highest goalscorer in the competition (currently level with Glenn Murray).
