Saturday 19 February 2022 3.00pm kick off
Can’t see any problem other than Roy boring us to death. 0-0 written all over it.
-
3-1 to Watford.
Digne for us.
-
4-0 to Villa. FTF!
-
A must win game. 4-1 to us; their striker that scored against us in August (14), Couthino (33), Ings (39), Ramsey (67,73). We are better than the Newcastle game.
-
0-2
-
This should be a nailed on Villa win and I'll be disappointed if it's anything less.
The problem is that Villa have returned to being an unpredictable force. Let's hope management and players can get it together for Saturday.

Thanks for the thread!
I wonder what SG imposing himself will do to our players.
I don't think the formation will change but there's an indication that the perosnnel will.
I think he might play Coutinho in the midfield 3
Martínez
Digne
Chambers
Mings
Young
McGinn
Chukwuemeka
Coutinho
Ramsey
Ings
Bailey
1-0
I hope we win and keep a clean sheet!
-
We must be due a 0-0
Nil nil.
-
Think we need Cash and Sansom in place of Young and Chucky. Agree with the rest of your team Footy.
-
think we'll dick them. SG will have got into them this week and I think this will be our most determined performance since he joined.
3 - 1 Ramsey, Courtihno, Sanson
-
They'd better be a marked improvement on last week's debacle.
2-0
-
Sarr is back in contention for his first game since Watford beat Man U 4-1. Their last win. We've seen this movie before, haven't we?
-
For the first time in a long time I'm not looking forward to the match. The day out yes but not the actual football. Hopefully, backing up his post match words, the manager can get a tune out of whatever team he picks, and changes do need to be made.
I feel we will be back at a nervous Villa Park on Saturday, a good win will blow that feeling away again.
2-0
-
This is a game I should be looking forward to....
-
0-0 or 0-1.
-
Nil nil whatever team clean sheet for Martinez rumbelings of discontent, or just maybe an Ings hat trick and positive vibes again
-
(https://i.postimg.cc/NjVkytmr/f-cleaned.jpg)
What are the odds that Sarr and Dennis produce their best performance in months on Saturday?
I actually rate Dennis highly. It's no surprise he's got 8 goals in 20 league matches for them - his ball retention skills are insane.
If he was at manure, plôp or city the media would be creaming themselves weekly over him.
-
Villa backlash hopefully, Ings to start and get a brace. 3-2 and a nervy finish as always.
-
Feels like we're on the slide a little bit with three chaotic, identity-less performances in a row now. I really wanted a better showing against Newcastle but now it feels like we're drifting slightly and a team who wants it more than us may well turn us over. Hm.
-
We will win 3-1
-
We should be winning this.
We probably won't, though.
-
If we can’t win this one then there is something seriously wrong. We’re playing one of the worst teams in the league at home.
-
Do they have a player who is currently out of form, or who hasn't scored for a long time, if yes, then they will inevitably break their barren spell against an out of sorts Villa.
All the new manager bounce has now gone, 2-2
-
Troy Deeney last minute, of course... we hadn't won in months and threw this one away, conceding two late goals. Another defeat, 3-2. My brother punched his hand through a wall in anger, his love for Villa died that day in May 2016. The post-match thread on here would make funny reading now, I guess.
Life, innit? Onward, ever onward...
-
Just watched the brief highlights of that game...we were 2-1 up and it turned on Ally Cisshoko being sent off. A straight red, 15 minutes left, bringing down an attacker and the last man in defence. Except replays showed he got the ball and no man. Fucking VAR, where was it when we needed you?! Apparently we were already relegated though...which makes my brother busting-up his hand even funnier and sadder.
-
I'm going for a 2-1 Villa win.
-
I’m going for game called off due to the North Stand being relocated to Perry Barr by storm Eunice.
-
I’ve given up trying to predict our scores. Hope we win, Ings in a must, McGinn and Luiz both should be under no illusion that this is a make or break for them
-
We will win, won’t we ??
-
Nah.
-
My Liverpool mate at work gave me some encouragement today. Said that when Klopp first came in, results weren't any better than Rodgers before him. He reckons it took about a year for players to really get the ideas and fitness required. Also, talking of fitness, that initially, players were just shattered from the extra running in training. If this is Gerrard's approach too, it could be an underwhelming year or so ahead but hopefully when it clicks (if it clicks) it might be epic.
-
Top marks for not writing "thread" in the title. Good work!
-
We should have beaten them in our first game of the season and we should certainly beat them this time around.
-

He came on the start of the 2nd half, last Saturday, and played the rest of the match, so I'm expecting him to be in the starting line up.
-
Martínez
Cash Chambers Mings Digne
McGinn Sanson Ramsey
Buendia Ings Coutinho
Will do for me.
-
A game we should stroll but you just know we won't. Can see late drama in our favour and a 3-1 win but it won't be pretty or easy.
-

I don't necessarily disagree just feel that 11 i put would be along lines of SG with his intended changes. Young and Chukwuemeka seem to get the nod in pecking order. And think Sanson has lost the trust of Gerrard and Chukwuemeka if ever was to start a match would be home to Watford /lower regulation threatened team such as.
I don't think we'll be looking to go crazy with the goals and definitely looking for a clean sheet. Solid win with some more attacking display against a cautious and counter attacking Watford is the order of the day.
In essence would give Sanson a run out but I also would very much like and have preference for Chukwuemeka who's bee binding his time for a start. Maybe he'll throw them both in from the off who knows ? Just my hunch on Sanson not being SG go to guy.
-
I'll be disappointed if we are unchanged. Time to rotate the squad a bit.
-
Watford to stifle us up to about 70 mins but for us to eventually break it down with a flurry of goals in the latter stages. 3-1
-
Top marks for not writing "thread" in the title. Good work!
Haha thanks I did think about that😊
-
I’m going for game called off due to the North Stand being relocated to Perry Barr by storm Eunice.
Wouldn't be the worst result if it meant getting rid of the North Stand.
-
.
-
.
That's a good point.

A midfield that is capable of coming off second best to Joelinton and Shelvey, is a midfield that is capable of coming off second best to any other midfield in this league. That is the worry.
We still have the issue that we cannot win games if we are less than 100%. Other teams can coast wins when not at their best, but our players need to all be absolutely on it for us to win.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this, but I'm going to do it anyway. The midfield version of Joelinton I've seen over the last couple of months is exactly the kind of player we need, and I'd have him on the list of prospective buys this summer - maybe even do a deal for Matt Targett.
-
Bibs team in training was our starting 11 aginst Newcastle but with Cash, Watkins & Luiz out and Ings, Young and Tim in.
-
I'd leave Cash in. He consistently makes more challenges than anyone else. Interesting changes though if that's the team.

So would I. I'd also start Sanson over Tim.
-
a win please Villa...
UTV
The Doc
-
I’d like to see Tim get a go tomorrow let’s see what he can do
-
Not sure if we will see a change to the team or the formation tomorrow.
-

Sanson has got to be out of favour and on the way out in the summer if he can't get a start this week after the midfield shit-show last weekend, surely?
-

I cannot see what Young would give us over Cash to be honest
Ings i would be happy with if nothing else but to buck Watkins ideas up a bit - he certainly cannot justify his place at present.
Luiz - for Tim Cannotpronounceorspellhisname - is it a direct replacement? I know nothing of this kid
If we want Sanson to play then it is either McGinns place or Ramsays - there is no way that Ramsey should be benched and everyway McGinn should be
But he is always teachers pet and that is not good
-

Same here, I'd put Sanson in for Luis or McGinn and replace Watkins with Ings and see how we get on.

We're in desperate need of 3 points, it would be a brave man that takes out two of our three central midfielders. If one has to go, based on form it should be Luiz. That said I'd hope Sanson is given 25 minutes when we're three up.
-

Yes I would suspect this line up. With way i've viewed things too in recent times that being in match play sunday and that he's not impressed with Luiz delivery of set plays and attitude same with Sanson previous poor display and attitude who I hunch has lost trust of manager and Watkins and Cash poor attacking outlay.
So hopefully have Coutinho in the middle 3
I was suspecting Young Ings and Chukwuemeka Bailey in but there fore the line up.
Martinez
Young
Chambers
Mings
Digne
Iroegbunam
McGinn
Coutinho
Buendia
Ings
Ramsey
-
.
-
I'd play this team:
Martinez
Cash
Chambers
Mings
Dinge
Tim
Sanson
Ramsey
Countinho
Buendia
Ings
Luiz, McGinn and Watkins were absolutely dreadful Sunday and have been for weeks. None of them deserve a start.
-
me too
-
Has Tim leapfrogged Chukwumeka now in the pecking order or are they slightly different players?
-

Different players I think, but give him two games, he'll either be dreadful, not good enough or shit.

Or lightweight and should be loaned off to Walsall for the rest of the season to grow some gonads.
-

Absolutely agree with this, they were all dog shit and looked like they didn't really care - drop all of them.
-
I will take any kind of scrappy win tomorrow. This will be tougher than expected I reckon.
-
Suspect we’re going to see a surprise selection or two. I’d be amazed if Young doesn’t start.
-
This game keeps making me think of an away game at Craven Cottage in 2007/8. It was also in February, and Roy had been there a few weeks, losing every game. We were flying (relatively) high under MON's first flush of ageing centre-backs and Gabby.
I think we took the lead, but then soon relinquished it. And then a winner. They ended up in the Uefa Cup final (might've been the next season, that); we were cold, very cold indeed.
He's due a win, is what I'm saying. And we know how that ends.
-
I'm taking my entire household today. I noticed people drinking and making merry around the statue quarter before the Leeds game, so can anyone tell me if this is a permanent thing, as we wouldn't mind a bit of it beforehand. And what's the best time to see the players arriving, is it about an hour and a half before kick-off?
Hoping for a good day, don't mind the cold but wishing any rain is light and short-lived, with the highlight being a Villa romp. I wouldn't mind seeing a change or two in the starting line up, as long as we stick with our twin 10s, but let's give them a firmer foundation. 3-0 us, one each for our magical trio Buendia, Coutinho and Ramsey.

Looks like it.
“ Outside the stadium there will be several street food trucks situated on the Trinity Stand forecourt and a bar serving alcoholic and soft drinks. The traders include Flying Cows, The Grub Shed and Only Jerkin.”
-
If Phil and JJ play like they did against Leeds, then there's only gonna be one winner, hopefully Tim will get some game time.
-
No ifs, buts or maybes, this lot lost 3-0 at home to Norwich recently and are going down.
2-0 to the greatest football team the world has ever seen.
-
Gonna be a wet,grisly day. 4-0 us.

Badly needed and may help with the infrastructure pressures. Redeveloped North Stand needs more of these kind of facilities pre- and post-match. This is the game changer Villa Park requires.

That'd be my choice, except I'd play Coutinho instead of his vampire cousin.

I agree, it made a noticeable difference on the concourse in the UT before Leeds. We actually managed to get some chips & curry sauce for once.

Good call, he would probably do better with crosses.

CD pointed it out. I'd never considered it before so took his critique on board and adopted it.

We miss CD alright, and PWS.

People talk about Leeds as a bogey team yet Watford really are.
-
Ings for Watkins the only change.
-
Pretty hard to believe we get McGinn and Luiz again after recent performances.
How shit must Sanson be?

That's daft talk, and you know it!
After the last 2 games, anything can happen and it probably will.
2-1 us.
-
Ings for Watkins the only change.
That's a surprise, given all the talk of how unhappy he was after Newcastle. Maybe he's read the riot act and the got the reaction he wanted on the training field? Maybe he's giving them a chance to put it right? Who knows. Either way, if we DON'T see a hugely improved performance there will be a lot of questions asked of his decision to keep 10 of the Newcastle line-up.
I don't think we can be as bad as last weekend. Oh god, please don't let us be as bad as last weekend...
Sarr starting is a worry, he's a good player and generally plays well against us.
